i thought they juz do for fun by killing their partner, until i figure it out some area will have extra enemies if it is two player, so they kill their partner to skip those two player enemies. Nice work!
The plot is: The Ninja Turtles are relaxing on the beach in Florida. While watching April O’Neil’s latest news report, the Shredder interrupts the program and the Turtles vacation. Taking April hostage, he reveals that New York City is being turned into a floating Manhattan Island. He challenges the Ninja Turtles to come to his lair, the Technodrome, to stop him. After they rescue her from Shredder’s clutches, April reveals that Manhattan Island is under the control of Krang’s spaceship, causing the city to levitate into the sky.
This speed run of the game involves using the special moves, which incur recoil damage until it’s down to unit of health. This is not possible in a solo run. This is not possible using Leonardo and Michelangelo. Leonardo’s special is a stationary melee attack.
Bosses in this game usually have more health in 2-player mode, but by killing a player at key times, boss spawn with less HP. With the ghost player glitch in stage 3 the game thinks there's 0 players if P1 is down, so the boss there spawned with even less health than intended. edit: fixed stage 3 explanation

when doing co-op, killing your partner before the boss will reduce their health as not doing it will prolong the fight longer
