    I soak my bearings the same way, although I use Rear end fluid since my real truck, the pinion seal leaks, so every 6 months I top it off, so I always have rear end fluid on hand. Its thinker and in theory it pernitrates better than motor oil.

    It's really cool and amazing to watch these videos! I know almost nothing about differential oils, but I believe that 100k is the minimum value for general use. Am I right? I read in the manual or somewhere that too thick oils can overheat the engine and ASK.

    Oil soak will dilute the grease if it gets past those seals. That is a sealed bearing. You can pop out the rubber seals and add grease and put the seals back in. Good video but oil dilutes grease

  • @rickdavis524

    what oil was that you stuck the bearings in? and are you using acetone for the cleaning process?

    • @rcguygarage

      Synthetic 0-30 motor oil. Oil bathing bearings is just a old habit (eventhough they may or may not be sealed) any solvent that will assist in cleaning silicone based lube. What I do may not work for everyone, it's just how I do it. 👍💯👊

  • @HH-zg8zm
    @HH-zg8zm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I soak parts in wd 40 it removes grime. But I use liquid wrench chain and cable lube anti sling penetrant for soaking bearings. My bearings now spin better longer less rust use it on metal hard ware to. Cars faster had to find better way because of my son he thinks his slash is a submarine. 😆 Now I don't need to rip it apart every time it gets wet water needs off metal parts.

    • @rcguygarage

    The piece at EXACTLY 25:34 when you take the screw with locktight off and say "that piece can come off" I had that snap from the differential rod running down the middle of the truck after smashing into something at full speed and cracking the front bulkhead. I had to replace the front bulk head and took that ring gear and pinion gear out and it was smashed. I can't find that exact part anywhere. Does anyone know the model number for that? Or if it comes in a diff set of gears you have to buy? Tired of waiting on Traxxas support

    • @rcguygarage
      @rcguygarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on the video most likely I used a combination of simple green and either enamel reducer or lacquer thinner however it's really not considered in the form a solvent it's more of a release agent and cleaner. Seems to work okay for the application. A tooth brush helps . . . Just make sure you never use it for your teeth again🤣🤪😆

    What was the cleaning solution you used for your diff gears?

    • @rcguygarage
      @rcguygarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a combination of solvents. I cannot recommend the mixture as it is considered caustic. However a solvent you can use to aid in cleaning is simple enamel reducer or lacquer thinner.

    Can someone explain the following: Why the different fluids for each differentials?
    What is the difference between a slipper clutch and Cush drive?
    Which one is prefer between them?

    • @rcguygarage
      @rcguygarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diffs you can tailor the way the vehicle acts for different terrain or driving needs. Cush drive only cushions the drive. Slipper you can adjust the amount of slip (they both protect the driveline)

    • @mrallende007
      @mrallende007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rcguygarage Appreciate your prompt response. So in the case you want less wheelies you put a thicker oil on the rear diff always or is it dependent on the center diff location? Any preference in terms of Cush drive vs slipper clutch in terms of reliability and/or longevity/maintenance cost?

    • @rcguygarage
      @rcguygarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrallende007 cush drive is traxxas specific. Normally power is direct to center drive (that diff regulates power transfer between the front to rear) also think about how a vehicle launches (weight transferred to the rear wheels) the weight of the front or rear diff fluid can change how a vehicle hooks up (rear) turns and handles (front+rear) SO many things are involved within all that such as vehicle weight and its distribution . . . . 😂😝🤣😜

    For the diff fluid, you want to fill it within a hair's width *just* below the top of the diff cup. You didn't fill it near enough. Plus, (I know this is strictly preference) I'd personally, use a much thicker diff fluid. I'd use 500k fluid for a Maxx. For an E-Maxx, I use 1 million F/R, then silicone earplug putty in it's optional center diff. My E-Maxx runs *much* taller wheels and tires than a Maxx. The taller the wheels & tires, the thicker the diff fluid you need. Plus, the E-Maxx with it's much smaller 1/10th scale diffs, need all the cushion they can get for the two little spider gears in those tiny diff cups.
    As far as the bearings, I'd go ahead and take the seals off with a hobby knife, soak them in gasoline or the stuff you were using, scrub them with a toothbrush, then spray em' clean with some brake cleaner. Then, repack them FULL with a lithium based, NLG #2 grade (rated for bearings) grease, like Lucas Red & Tacky, or my go to.....Super Lube synthetic grease. Put the seals back on, and good to go. Before closing everything back up, I'd check for ANY slope in the diffs, and plan on some shimming....no matter *what* RC it is.

    Great video, but I am confused by the diff fluid used. Traxxas sells their 10k, 30k, and 50k diff oil kit (and that is what is listed on their website and the manual), but you are putting in 100k diff oil and other people are talking about 250k and higher weight oils in the comments. If you want a basically stock vehicle, should you only get the 10k, 30k and 50k oil kit from Traxxas even though it seems as though everyone is going with WAY thicker oil?
