@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe they are finished products thats why there called ready to run lol there not a kit. If it was a kit then it wouldn't be finished like associated or tekno or mugan or tlr etc. Traxxas is a overpriced entry level rtr thats all
Jeff Bryner no, they aren’t finished products in the obvious sense. Think about it like this: A Honda Civic and Toyota 86 (for example) are fully assembled vehicles that are perfectly able to drive on their own and many people buy them that way and keep them that way. Ask any tuner and they will tell you it’s not a finished product in the sense that the person buying it already had plans to modify it before they even bought it. It’s a platform for their own unique build. That’s what Traxxas does and that’s why they have a full line of upgrades and accessories because they know their buyers will modify them. No one ever keeps their Traxxas models stock for very long.
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe lol thats with anything then. I was in the tuner scene before the stancefcrap came around. I own a 07 civic. I had a turbo 2.2l accord. My good friend is Chuck from street outlaws brother lol. Chuck did have a fast ass 93 civic hatch pushing 750 to the wheels. When I buy a car it needs to be complete and ready to go no.matter if I decide to upgrade or not. I don't go to Honda and buy a civic half ass because someone may decide to put a k20 in it with a turbo and rims on it. Honda builds a solid car and doesn't need anything for your average person. You buy Traxxas crap and the average Joe who would drive there civic for gas mileage to Starbucks is now upgrading there civic just to make it to get coffee. What I'm saying is. Having the option to upgrade is fine but actually having to upgrade what u just bought just to use it is bs. If u sell a costumer a product with the intention that they have to upgrade it just to us it to its fullest is bull shit. Traxxas is one big ass marketing scheme. I have another TRX 4 that came with a cracked rear axle housing. Half the time, my charger doesn't wanna charge my batteries. If they aren't faulty, they can be very tough, and fun cars, but too many of them are faulty.
@@gasolinediesel972 agreed and my biggest problem is traxxas just says f**k you like I bought a vxl stampede back in august and the second I turned it on the esc Started smoking and killed the motor and then I put a new esc in and the servo died within minutes and traxxas just told me “it wasn’t there fault” and I could buy the $70 servo and the $200 in a motor and esc
Ah, this reminds me, I should definitely get a motor fan for my 540XL 3S motor. The aluminum heatsink fan replacement is not a bad idea either. On my Hoss with a Traxxas link and the motor temp sensor connected and working, I'm showing temps that are, in my opinion, way too high at these currently 50-degree outside temps. I think as it warms up, I'll have to go ahead and opt for a protek motor fan. I gotta say, I always order from you guys for my RC stuff, I've been happy with everything by protek that I've ordered, and customer service is top notch. I appreciate you guys, and thanks for the tips here!

Excellent comment, but why not just sell the Taiwanese child labor ESC & motor to some sucker, then replace with some cheaper and superior? Swutadoo! ;o)
You could use the fan with both of those ESC's but you'll need a way to mount the fan. I don't think the XL-5 has a fan mount, although maybe I'm wrong. -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thanks. I was looking at it and couldn't figure out if there was a place to mount it. My esc gets kinda hot but it's still under warranty so I'm sure it's fine. Thanks for answering!
I went with the traxxas fans first on my rustler 4x4 vxl and they lasted about a week. Now I run rocket fans and I love em. They're inexpensive, move alot of air and they've lasted about a year so far.
Have the first two!...banking on my gearing and driving style to keep temps in check. Besides, don't want any fans stealing my battery power. Even if its 0.002 v. 😏
I think, if you run Traxxas LiPo batteries, the Traxxas LiPo cell voltage checker should be your #1 thing to get. It is portable, stash it in your pocket, and where ever you drive, you can check your cell's voltages. You can check if you're getting low, if you are getting near storage voltage, have a high voltage, if the batteries have bad cells (over or under voltage). You can also check all your other LiPo voltages because it connects to the balance plug. That's how I check my other LiPo packs. There is also the Traxxas Link, which I have never used, can anyone tell me how it is? Aluminum parts can definitely improve the vehicle. I use the aluminum hub bearing adapter in my Slash 4x4. That is the piece thay goes on the clutch in the bearing to the center driveshaft. I also use aluminum hubs, and Pro Line aluminum shocks. Everything else is plastic, so that any damage has a weak spot to go to that is easily replaceable, and won't "shock" the rest of the components upstream. I have never used fans, although I have considered getting a van for my VXL-3s esc. I have had my truck get very hot, but to preserve my LiPo batteries, I generally don't run in very hot conditions. This is about 95 degrees F and higher. I also want to point out getting the right charger. Traxxas has pretty much made their batteries proprietary to their chargers. The cheapest unit is $50, which is all you need if you have the cell voltage checker. I wish Traxxas had a display that shows the cell and total voltage of the battery. That would be a great feature that is moronic to not include. That alone makes Traxxas chargers look cheap compared to others. EZ Peak Live is a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist. Ideally you would be monitoring your LiPos if they are charging. So you can easily look at the charger to see the display, without having to use your phone.
The fan was intended to be used with the included extension wire which reverse the wires for you, so if that isn't used, you need to reverse the wires. -Brett
Will the 35 mm fan fit the modified motor shroud from Traxxas as well? If not, can it be screwed into the Traxxas heatsink between the fins like the 30 mm?
New friend here. I currently have 2 Traxxas vehicles. I bought the fan for the motor and it works Amazingly. Love the reviews for the Traxxas vehicles. Keep up the great work. I always wondered what the ID did for the Traxxas vehicles. See ya on the next video/review. Be safe.
The ID are the first 2 letters in IDIOT, which describes the people who purchase Traxxas batteries and chargers or any TRX electronics to "upgrade" their vehicle. There are FAR better batteries and chargers and electronics out there for a much cheaper price. Don't be fooled by "branding". This stuff is Taiwanese junk.
Very informative movie, but when I saw the topic I just had to come and read some of the comments. The Interweb didn't disappoint. There are so many self proclaimed experts and haters to keep us entertained for life :) Keep on truckin' y'all!
Got the bandit and realized that traxxas thought it was a good idea to not put bearing on the caster blocks both front and back… I mean… it works and it has little friction but damn… that’s a must have if you want your car to last…
Bret, at AMain Hobbies As far as the battery tester goes I recently got a TRX 4M and the battery has kind of a T-shaped plug, how can a guy use the tester on that style battery? Do they have a female T-shaped connector to a male input that will plug into the tester? I purchased the tester and extra packet of connections with my Hoss from you guys last year and I thought that the extra connector packet was supposed to take care of all the Traxxas batteries but I'm at a loss to know how to test the little 4M batteries. Thank you for your time John C
Hmm, interesting. The TRX4M battery has that unique plug which doesn't easily plug into the cell checker. I'm not what a good solution for that is. You might want to give Traxxas a call and let them know you bought the tester with the adapters and see what their recommendation would be. Maybe they make an adapter for the TRX4M battery? Not sure... -Brett
I recently seen a video saying one TQi can control all your Traxxas vehicles with the link. Ive only found one video specifically about this. but felt it needed a bit more specifics on this option. Could you do a more detailed video on this option as it seems completely unknown. I'll probably grab a link and figure it out before you get a chance to make a video. But good information for others. Thanks.
Yeah, the TQi has "Model Memory" for up to 30 different models. For more information on TQi Model Memory, check out this Traxxas article: traxxas.com/news/how-to-become-tqi-power-user -Brett

No, you can't run the fans directly from 3S (11.1V) or 4S (14.8V) power. They operate at 8.4V max. All you need to do is run the fans from the AUX port on your receiver, and that should provide 6V or 7.4V, depending. Yes on the reversing plug, both fans are the same way. Hope that helps. -Brett
Brett, for the Maxx why didn't you just go back with the Protek 35mmx35mm fan? it clips right in the stock housing no bolts needed. you are correct, they push alot more air, I have replaced the ones in my Maxx and X-Maxx with ProTek RC 35x35x10mm Aluminum High Speed HV Cooling Fan
Traxxas made an error on the back of the TQi radio. Simply by removing the sticker from the back, it says “enabled”, leaving someone who gets it and doesn’t know thinking the module has been installed already. When it should’ve just said, well, anything else. Best would be “open to insert module No. ****” as I just bought a radio from a well versed and experienced seller on the ‘Bay who before purchasing, I asked since he said it was enabled, if indeed it had the module. As far as he could tell by looking, it must’ve because it said “enabled”, yet upon receiving the radio and receiver, there was no module installed. Was this his fault? Maybe, it’s only one screw away from realizing. But he sees enabled so if you’ve no experience with that certain unit, one would be inclined to think the same. Anyway, that’s my 2c.
My esc used to hit the thermal limit after a few min of speed running, i put my fan on blowing onto the esc, can run out a full 5500mah 3s without hitting thermal limit

The MOST important thing i think you could of added was getting a set of good quality Allen screw drivers working with the L shaped ones make it not fun to work on and is just painful working on them for long periods
Gears are cheaper than new batteries though, hot racing makes a lot of different 32p steel gears. Ceramic bearings, turn off training mode of you haven't already, depending on how/ where you drive belted tires are a great upgrade too, the possibilities are endless. But gearing makes a big difference and it's cheap and easy
@@justinmetcalfe2669 Would you recommend getting a Traxxas battery or an off brand battery and just soldering new connectors on? and I run it either on loose dirt or pavement.
Great video..! But I do not completely agree with your fan mod. By placing a smaller fan into that shroud, you have defeated the purpose of that shroud. You should seal the louvers that extend past the outer edges of that aluminum shroud so you don't get recirculation at the top. The seal will make the plastic shroud more efficient, pulling more air through the heat sink. Also...if the aluminum fan case were the correct height, the aluminum fan case could also act as a heat sink to the heat sink. I'm not saying that your idea is not working better(can always be tested), I'm just saying it can be even more efficient..! This was still an informative video. I was not aware of the first two products. Thanks "AMain Hobbies"..!

How can i prevent my lipos from malfunctioning or like ballooning up, idk if its malfunction or what but all my traxxas lipo 3s batteries tend to swell after a while of driving ?
Swelling commonly happens because the cells get too hot. If you can help it, don't immediately recharge them after using them, let them cool down first. Also be sure they have an adequate C Rating for their application; if you ESC is drawing more power than the battery can deliver, swelling can happen. -Brett

Vxl esc and motor go out all the time. I can go on. I know this from experience. Traxxas is over priced garbage and people love them because they don't know any better
Not one other rc company have I seen be like there are. Maybe horizon hobby with there spectrum/losi products. They are still way better quality though. Traxxas is over priced junk. Who hurt you?
Lol it’s very rare but ive seen traxxas manufacturing defects and traxxas just basically said f*ck you
Seriously. They are great cars, but I see too many that are faulty. Almost every single one that I owned had faults. I have a TRX 4 that came with a broken esc, that somehow fried my motor.
Awesome! My VXL3s fan just broke on Sunday and I was thinking I need a better fan and don't know what to get. Thx Brett.

Hello, can I put the aluminum fan on an xl5 esc then possibly switch it later to the xl3 brushless esc?
Ha! Exactly.
-Brett
@dr34m3r_ come to Louisiana and tell me how that works out. Brushless and 3S Lipo you'd have to go mighty slow to not go in to temperature protection.
Great vid & advice!!!
Do not purchase any TRX electronics. They make plastic; NOT electronics or batteries. That stuff comes from Taiwan!
How long do you have to wait after charging Lipo batteries before you can plug them into the RC car ?
Depends on what battery and charger
Once your LiPo's are finished charging, you can immediately go play! There is no need to wait after charging LiPo batteries.
-Brett
What’ do you guys think the next ARRMA RC or TRAXXAS CAR will be?
Thanks for the info
What is the purpose of reversing the wires? Is it for the direction the fan spins? Or will it fry if not reversed?
Be safe.
Happy to hear the fans have worked well for you! Thanks for watching.

Good video and explanation! 🙂
Very informative movie, but when I saw the topic I just had to come and read some of the comments. The Interweb didn't disappoint. There are so many self proclaimed experts and haters to keep us entertained for life :) Keep on truckin' y'all!

Review: Far superior to and much cheaper than any Traxxas model. Arrma steel driveshafts are better and cheaper, also. Excellent truck man.
Got the bandit and realized that traxxas thought it was a good idea to not put bearing on the caster blocks both front and back…
I mean… it works and it has little friction but damn… that’s a must have if you want your car to last…

As far as the battery tester goes I recently got a TRX 4M and the battery has kind of a T-shaped plug, how can a guy use the tester on that style battery?
Not sure...

AMain Hobbies would love to see a video of it
I recently seen a video saying one TQi can control all your Traxxas vehicles with the link.
For more information on TQi Model Memory, check out this Traxxas article: traxxas.com/news/how-to-become-tqi-power-user

Love the channel and all the great information you provide to us all. I am a novice in the R/C hobby. I purchased a used Stampede VXL 4X4. Its an older model and does not come with the new TQI remote with TSM. My question is, if I purchase a new Remote with TQI. Can I benefit from the TSM? Or is that only in new traxxas RC cars? I wasn't sure if its a specific new equipment in the car itself

Glad it could help Douglas! For the plug on that Traxxas ESC, i'm not sure that is the best place to plug in your fan. Ideally, you'll want to plug the fans into the receiver under the AUX port, so the fans will always power on and off with the vehicle. For a two fan setup, check out this Y-Splitter: www.amainhobbies.com/western-robotics-6-servo-ysplitter-extension-wrl-yexten/p193542
If you use the extension wire included with the fans, you do not need to switch the power wires in the fan connector. If you do not use the extension, the wires need to be switched like we showed in the video.
Hope that helps!

Wow , i gotta get one of those fans
Hey Bret, do you recommend the cooling fans blow on, or away from the electronics?
My esc used to hit the thermal limit after a few min of speed running, i put my fan on blowing onto the esc, can run out a full 5500mah 3s without hitting thermal limit
It's best to have air blowing on the electronics.

Can I bind one TQi with the wireless module to a TRX4m, set my endpoints, then rebind the original TQ transmitter and keep those endpoints??
No, I don't think so. That adjustment is saved with the transmitter, so when you switch back to the TQ, the data in the TQi doesn't transfer.

I have the traxxas VXL-3s Ford Raptor running a 2s what can I do to make my truck better than my friends VXL-3s 2s rustler?
Gearing, bigger battery, esc fan, 100c 3s lipo.

Jeff Montague I agree
How can i prevent my lipos from malfunctioning or like ballooning up, idk if its malfunction or what but all my traxxas lipo 3s batteries tend to swell after a while of driving ?
Swelling commonly happens because the cells get too hot. If you can help it, don't immediately recharge them after using them, let them cool down first. Also, don't charge them at high amperage rates. Also be sure they have an adequate C Rating for their application; if you ESC is drawing more power than the battery can deliver, swelling can happen.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks for the advice.
Dunno about the adequate C rating what that is, but thats prob not the problem since i got stock rc car.
Reason might be cuz i have charged it sometime when it was still warm.

How do you change to Proline Badlands tires in the app? I only see Traxxas branded tires.
They probably don't have Pro-Line listed. In the app, you might want to select Traxxas tires that are the same height as the Pro-Lines. The height info is what the app wants, to calculate tire roll out and calibrate it for an accurate speed reading. Hope that helps and makes sense.

You are looking for Traxxas Maxx batteries? You would want a 3S or 4S LiPo for that truck. The Traxxas 5000mAh 4S is the largest battery you can fit in the Maxx battery box; this battery: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-maxx-4s-25c-lipo-battery-14.8v-5000mah-tra2889x/p768332

The best thing you can do with Traxxas electronics is replace them, that link system is absolutely garbage! I bought that system twice including new radios because after installing the system it ended up "bricking " my radios and electronics. I did call Traxxas and they knew of the problems and weren't keen on helping or replacing these . Stay away from the hole link and telemetry system. I spent alot of money on 2 systems and radios out of pocket. This is all on My gen1 Xmaxx. Even have problems with my Bronco trx4 steering servo. Replaced it with a Savoxx and works way better.
Just for context, I've been into RC for 35 years. I still prefer my Team Associated MGT and Rc10gt lol, or even my old Kyosho Optima mid pro se or Team Losi pro se.
3 things:
1: money to replace broken parts
2: All new NON-Traxxas electronics
3 A different brand of comparable RC so you can continue playing while your Traxxas is broken
Ya guts are great!! I buy everything from ya NYC!!!!
