As there seems very little option to do so with these i run the alluminium cases too all seems to fit ok bit clicks on harsh bresking and throttling
it took Vitavon a long time to catch up to PR Racing - My XRT runs on the Max 4 70125 motor and I’ve had zero issues almost two years in!! If you drive like you want to break it, anything will break including these gears, also the PR racing gears come with the proper shims (did you shim yours?) when using the PR gears?) and fit is absolutely perfect. I used the Vitavon diff housings & Bulkheads, front & rear - this greatly enhances and reduces the flex that causes all gears to wear out prematurely when hard bashing or extreme overpowering.
Yes I even have a video on how to shim gears. I found the PR racing gears to be fine but Not great. Honestly I've had the best luck with stock gears an aluminum differential housing aluminum differential cover and proper shimming.
@@DoRC with the aforementioned upgrades stock gears will last! However, on my set up - they would have turned to cheese. Lol! I enjoy your videos thank you for taking the time to respond.
Great video. Bad bad design. Two trucks in one day both rear strips. The vitavon v2. Not happy. And all we do is normal racing and no high bashing. One is XMAXX and XRT
What motor and esc combo do you have, because I have a max 5 and castle 2028 1100kv in my XRT and the most I’ve gotten out of rear gears is maybe 2 runs. I was going to get pr racing but then saw these on eBay and figured I’d try these instead, I’m glad I found a video on them
Maybe my SupaMaxx won't be the first back in the truck. Crazy thing with mine is the stock gears seem to last the longest. Mine is a Max5 with an 800kv.
Had an xmaxx for a while, sold it because of this issue. Been running an outcast 8s EXB with the vitavon diff case/axle setup and it’s been rock solid, never once shredded a stock ring gear with max5/800kv combo. I really want an XRT but don’t want to go thru diff woes again… maybe I’ll wait for v3
Hey. I need help. I have a brand new xmaxx. And put the max 6 combo. I have installed the GPM diffs. And got stripped in few min. Got the vitavon and last one minute. I shim them as well and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
First thing to do would be to carefully inspect your upper and lower bulkhead and make sure they aren't any cracks in them. A lot of times those kinds of failures happen because the bulkhead is damaged allowing the gears to move. Also verify that all of your bearings are tight and good.
hi do rc, I'm going crazy with my traxxas xrt I mount a 1100kv HW motor, or I mount the same bevel gears for the differentials that you show in the video the mod1.6 ones only that I still manage to break them, do you know how to help me I'm going crazy😅, thanks
These Vitavon's work great on my front end but my rears keep skipping teeth when i let off the throttle on speed runs. Over time the gear wears down and fails. I haven't tried an aluminum upper bulkhead but I thinking a mod 1.6 straight gear might be a great balance for these truck. So you think the aluminum bulkead will make a significant difference?
It depends. Ideally a combination of both is the way to go but I found on the X-Maxx/XRT platform They're generally isn't a lot of room to move the differential itself side to side. If you're able to get shims on the ring gear side of the differential itself that will get the gears closer together You just want to make sure you're not binding up the bearings by trying to jam them in too much.
Yeah it definitely doesn't help. The aluminum differential housing and an aluminum differential cover definitely makes a big difference in that. Thanks for watching and if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated :-)
I have had bearing failures a couple of times with this type of gear though not with this specific one. There are a lot of forces on these ears and the bearings aren't that big. You might want to step up to some quality name brand bearings like NSK. They'll cost you quite a bit more per bearing but they will probably also last a lot longer
I installed these on my XRT. Hobbywing 1100kv and Max 5. I had to go back to stock on the rear. The car barley moved and made a horrible sound. I changed diff house cover, bulkhead rear low, bulkhead rear upper and gear box cover. Still no improvement. The pinion also eats the bearings. Also tried to shim the diff. Everything seems to be ok when I install. Car moves nice when I roll it back and forth. Moved front diff to the back. It did not help. If I run the car without tires on the back everything sound good. Front is ok. Any sugestions?
That's very strange that it would roll smoothly but not run smoothly. I will say that in my experience these spiral bevel gears regardless of what brand they are from do tend to be hard on the bearings. They put a lot of axial load on the bearings that they're really just not designed for. It's always kind of a compromise in these situations. Having said I'm not sure with everything that you've done why you would still be having that specific problem. Maybe there's a defect in the rear pinion? After shimming can you verify that you have a little bit of backlash all the way around between the ring and pinion in the rear?
Vitavon paid for the return. They offered me to test a v3 they are working on. I passed and let someone else do the testing. :-) They refunded the money for the ring gears. A big shout out to Vitavon. Really good customer service. I love their products and I am very impressed about their customer service.
If you've replaced all those parts including the bearings and you're still having a problem even after moving the front differential to the back the only thing left really is the rear pinion. Sounds like it May have been machined wrong or something. I'd recommend removing it and carefully inspecting it. Compare the gear profile to the front pinion and see if there's any difference. Beyond that maybe try getting with the manufacturer and see if they'll send you a replacement.
Do vitavon or other brand aluminium diff cover and upper bulkhead help diff more durable than default traxxas? because they should help diff more durable without any flex.
Anything you can do to stiffen up the area around the gears is going to help hold them in place. That being said you want to be careful because additional weight puts additional force on those gears so it's kind of a balancing act. I recommend aluminum differential housing and aluminum differential cover. That with proper shimming seems to work really well.
@@DoRC Yeah you right. I need be make sure to understand how that xmaxx diff area need be durable by some aluminium parts to make front and rear diff stable to last longer. Plus, I have watched ur video about x maxx shimming diff that new found to help better diff more durable.
Maybe. A lower punch setting will definitely help. Just generally not being as abusive to them is helpful as well :-) I'm usually trying to push these things to their absolute limit in my videos so what I experienced and what you experience probably won't be the same thing
I just use regular wheel bearing grease but anything greasy on the gears themselves would be fine. Inside you want to use silicone differential fluid. What kind you use is up to the type of driving that you do. I like to use ear plug in the center differential and then 100K front and rear but I'm also not the best tuner
I think they're marginally better. Still not fully satisfied with any of the gears that are available but I do think that these are the best. They have come out with another version since this video which I haven't tested. I'm assuming it's better but can't guarantee it.

Spiral bevel gears are inherently stronger than straight cut gears because they have more tooth engagement.
