I worked for a company that made TP. We called the cheap single ply TP John Wayne TP, because it wouldn't take cr@p off of anybody.

      YES! 😂
This was one of my dad's favorite "dad jokes" he told us as kids in the 80s. It was a tad longer, and the setup was someone shopping for TP at their local store (K-mart, Walmart, Target, etc), and there were too many TP options. Something like that.
Anyway, I wish I could remember the whole thing. I'll ask my dad today, who's over 70 now. I bet he'll get a kick out of me asking!

It's also one of the biggest marketing mindfucks. Sure it's cheaper, but you have to use twice as much, so no savings at all. That and it's more likely to tear when using it, and nobody wants that shit...

Scotts isn't cheap toilet tissue. Yes, it is 1 ply and you may need more. However, the Angel Soft is 2 ply. So 6 sheets is like 12. If you double up on Scotts you'd still be using the same amount as the AS. Like Eric said, it is about personal preference. I grew up on Scotts and prefer it. I get a Walmart brand that is generic Scotts for 1/2 the price and like it better, but when that is out, Scotts is the next choice. I can't stand Angel Soft and thick TP.

    • @IKARIANOFFICIAL
      @IKARIANOFFICIAL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@IssuesWithMyTissues - Yeah, I'm surprised that so many, including Eric, failed to notice that the first Scott's TP was single ply. I prefer Scotts single ply, as it doesn't flake apart when wiping the behind like the angel soft usually does. Wiping with single ply (even if you really bundle it up while wiping) will leave less TP residue on your behind than softer tissues.

We don't have an RV but we have a 60 year old home and we switched to Cascades Pro toilet paper that we buy online in 40 something rolls quantities. It dissolves beautifully and we've never had to have a company come snake out our line in the 3 years since we switched. It's not as soft as some, but it's not uncomfortable and it's just another thing we don't have to worry about in homeownership.

We use Costco banded toilet paper in our RV. I added a additional sewer gate valve on the very end prior to attaching the hose. I dump the black tank. Then I close that valve in front of the hose and open the gray water tank and black tanks together. Water flows from the gray tank into the back tank until equalized. Then I close the gray tank and open the additional valve. This allows some gray water in the black tank to rinse out the black tank. Then drain the remaining gray water out.

2 ply means 2 squares together to make one square. It is literally twice the TP compared to a single ply. So your Angel soft sample actually had 12 squares worth of paper in it. Hence the larger wad and greater weight!
We like regular ol Charmin TP. We used Angel soft at home for 20 years or more, but made the switch to Charmin after using some at a relatives house. Less finger breaks with Charmin compared to Angel soft. We use Charmin in our class A diesel pusher and it has worked just fine! Great video Eric! Keep it up!

It works amazing it's just a nozzle that sprays water in different directions and if your hooked up at a campground you can let it rinse the entire tank out for as long as you need.

Before I changed out my toilet to one with a conventional seat so I could mount a real bidet, I did something else. We’ve been using Angel Soft in our various RVs for years. Never had an issue. But we always add water to an empty tank first. Then add water to the bowl before a #2, flush afterwards, add more water to the bowl, wipe, then flush again. When we empty the black tank, it flows fast due to the water to solid ratio. This is also not a septic tank. Solids won’t have time to break down. No anaerobic action going on. Extra liquids are needed to move the chunks!

Eric, try Charmin Soft (blue). I collect most dish water in a plastic tub that fits in my sink and I dump it down the toilet, at least the part that does not have debris in it. A black tank will not clog that is full of water or has a lot of water in it. So Eric, you are totally right. Don

That was very good information, no need to over-spend on special RV TP! Also, the regular Scotts used to be better quality, and larger sheets. The quality stinks now (no pun intended lol) It used to be a real good value, but you have to use so much more now.

This is a sore spot of argument in my house. I know too much tmi but I like the Scott’s and others in my house...like you, enjoy the fluffy stuff. When we go on a trip we buy the pricy RV paper which I hate and others in my family refuse to use. They have delicate tushies..lol I am kinda glad you did this experiment. Now I can bring my sandpaper and be happy. lol

Hey Eric, not sure how you did the math on the tp. We use the Scott RV for the past 2.5 years. It's $8 for an 8 pack @ Walmart. 231sheets per roll works out to $0.004/sheet. Anyways, we haven't had a problem with it at all although your test results are interesting! During the pandemic we bought the no-name walmart stuff and it was fine. We also bought Scott 1000. That stuff is pure garbage. I would only but that again if it was the only thing left in the store.

TMI coming at you but as a female, I use Scott for reasons other than it's comfort ability and RV tanks. The other "quilted" TP brands leave awful fuzzies. For example, here is a test for you... shave your face, then the next day when you have a little stubble, dab a little water on your cheeks and then try to wipe it off with your quilted TP. It's HORRIBLE! haha Scott is smooth and leaves no fuzzies. I guess if you keep nice thick bushes around your porch, then quilted is good, but if you shave that shit down, it's a no go.

Living On A Dime did a very comprehensive study on tp a year or so ago. They proved that Scott's was NOT the most economical tp like most people thought.

I agree the main thing to do is keep a lot of liquid in the black holding tank. I use Costco's Kirkland toilet paper, and it works fine. A big mistake a lot of people make is when they are at a campground with full hookups is to leave the black tank valve open. If you do that the solids stay, and the liquids go down the drain. Then when you want to empty the tank there is no liquid to make the solids flow. Keep the valve closed, and build up the fluids for a good flush when you drain the tank.

My favorite tolit paper that I won't hardly do without is Charmin with Aloe and E (in the green package). I use it in the rv but out of worry that it would clog the tank I put it in a trash can next to the toilet that gets empted regularly.

The basic Wal-Mart brand is a hold over when many stores were marketing to customers that wanted generic paper products.
.64 cents for soft rolls is a good value.

We use Costco's Kirkland brand at home, in our beach house, our boat and in the RV. 8 yrs and never a clog in any. We drove I-40 once and thought every screw was going to vibrate out our RV. There is some motion in those tanks! HUGS~Donna

There is also a "back" flush adspter that you attach to tge drain outlet on an rv. You atrach a hose, turn on the water and tgat eill push the blockage back into the tank...hopefully clearing the clog and allowing proper drainage. The chemicals added do help to disolve everything in the tank. Most are not safe for septic systems.....I discovered Happy Camper and it really dissipates odor from the black tank!

I would add more water a day before drain day to help thin the tank out.
When it's time to "scrub" my tank I buy 2 bags of ice and pour them into the tank and drive rougher than usual so the ice gets up the walls and scrubs the bottom of the tank.
Then go drain the tank and freaked out at what was left behind!
Yes, you can buy chemicals but ice is cheaper!!
Hey! You did a video, oh what? 2 years ago that you were going to go do an RV living show for TV.
What happened? Major production companies couldn't keep up with you? Lol.
And I'm now back in Springfield, MO.
Phoenix is nice but way to expensive!!
But I'm cometely retired! After laying my freightliner and trailer on its side I called it quits!
Let's see if I can make real retirement work!!
    Blue skies and safe journey's!

I have to say bro. That was the most informative video you've done for quite some time. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy your content. And I, like you always look for the quirky. The what makes life an adventure.
So are you going to finally make it up into Maine?? Maybe you should roll into Canada while you're up that way.
Safe travels bud. Give Jax a treat for me.
    Randy in Des Moines. 👍🏁✌
