  • This is a REALLY CRAPPY video all about the #2! Do you have a #2 policy in your RV? How do you handle the #2 in your RV? We have been living in our RV fulltime for 18 months and have often wondered how everyone else handles their #2! Do you allow #2 in your RV, and if so, what toilet paper do you use? We were curious about what really happens in the holding tanks, so we bought a wide range of #2 paper to see how things look inside our "holding tanks". The results might surprise you on what #2 toilet paper is best for RV's! Stay tuned till the end as we have a surprise for you to win some free Paving New Paths merch!

    My experience of 17 years in a two bathroom motor home with two black tanks and two gray tanks.......you better use your chemicals, and only "one ply T paper". Even then, when you are sitting on a lot for a long period of time, you better have a "snake" ready and a bucket, gloves to boot. Chemicals can only do so much in long term sitting. Now if you are never sitting longer than a week, moving around and tank content (whether little or more) is constantly shifting around, I can see using any of the RV only papers and possibly the fourth one on the test table. I have to say that you may be the only person that has done such a test for the public! Good job!

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! We travel fulltime and usually move every 7 to 10 days so our conditions may be different than most! I was torn between only water or do I add treatment! I was then worried I would be testing the treatments and not the TP! Now for my next test I may take one Brand of TP and test all the different tank treatments and see what the results are! We move so much water throughout system regularly I believe we could use any paper and be fine!

    I'm commenting at the 4:25 mark with my #2 S.O.P.: I use my toilet for what it is made for and now use Charmin Ultra Soft. This was after I was got duped into buying the over-priced RV Safe t.p. and it was due to a video I watched here on YT. Another video (black tank maintenace) taught me to use lots and lots and lots of water when going #2. I also use the product TST Max. It smells like fresh squeezed oranges, and seems to liquify most of the #2 and t.p. in the tank with the exception of a last minute #2 session. Ok, back to your video now!

We have changed our procedures to always flush twice when paper is involved. After watching several videos on this subject, that appears to be the best suggestion I've come across. We also use Tank Techs in our tank, it also appears to be a very good product. If only there was a solution for the sensors, ours are always stuck on some level.

    I work for an RV, rental company and I always tell folks, use RV specific TP, flush with plenty of water and use your tank treatments (for the love of all things holy). If there is ever a clog when the rental units return… 90% of the time it’s Charmin, toilet paper jammed in the neck pipe of the toilet. The other 10% is a toilet paper/poo mountain in the bottom of the tank where they haven’t used enough water when flushing. Either way… It’s miserable to clean up. 😂😂😂

    I decided in 1994 to use my regular TP from Sams Club or Costco. What I did was use a clear mayonnaise jar and put in some paper and water and shake. It all dissolves, and no worries about TP in the RV. Try a few sheets of any brand you like, and shake in the water. It will dissolve and is approved for RV use. I have never bought RV TP since 1992. I lived in my RV from 2005 until 2013. My test only lasted about 1 hour.
    I always us a lot of water with each flush, and never had the dreaded poop pile stuck in the tank. However it is possible to have a little stuck TP on the tank sensors, and it will show empty and 3/4 full at the same time. This indicates a little TP on the sensor. Draining every week is kind of a waste of chemicals, but I understand that 10 days is a bit much for most families.
    I joined the Escapees RV club and stayed in many of their parks. They had a nominal overnight fee, and charged for electric if you went over a certain amount. They have several parks across America. I loved the park in Coursegold, outside of Yosemite. There are several others in California and Oregon, Washington. The one near Benson AZ is also very nice. I didn't camp to much in the east, where there is a lot of humidity!
    The Grizzly Giant Tree in Yosemite, it is 33 feet in diameter! I bet you are googling that now! The lowest branch is 105 feet above the ground! And the diameter of that branch where it meets the tree trunk is huge, larger than the trees you saw in South Carolina. In Sequoia NP, there is a bunch of trees over 8 feet in diameter.
    I installed a pair of 120 watt solar panels, and dry camped a lot more than stay in RV parks. Of course back east, finding dry camping locations is a lot more difficult than out west, where there is a lot of BLM land.

I’m not running anywhere to take care of business haha. It’s all about maintenance and it’s not really that difficult once you understand. #1 WATER IS YOUR FRIEND, gotta use enough water, #2 Unique family of black tank treatments are the best I have found, #3 don’t rely on the black tank flush built into the RV, I used to dump 5 gallon buckets of water down the throne but now I have one of those RV toilet wands with the spinning spray nozzle by Camco, so much easier. Knock on wood we have not had black tank issues yet. Lack of use of water because folks think by using minimal water will extend time between tank dumps seems to be the biggest cause of black tank issues in my experience.

      I used to think conserving water was better too, until I saw a bunch of folks talking about how more water is better. Made sense and I changed the way I use water. Never had a problem yet either!

      That is why we have an RV with two bathrooms as well we are not running anywhere for the #2! We use lots of water and have only had a poo pyramid issue once and it was because I neglected my pre travel day maintenance for a few moves, and it caught up to me! I am actually curious about trying the experiment again this time with different tank treatment to see if they help break down the TP! Now that we have a control on what happens with just water it would be interesting to see the differences!

    You definitely aren't wasting your money using the RV toilet paper. Especially if you aren't in the camper for 7 days. Over the course of a weekend you would have big problems with non RV tp.

      We live in ours fulltime and run a lot of water through our system weekly! We use scotts RV but feel after the experiment we could use and TP and be fine! We also move frequently, if you were stationary I would stick with RV TP!

    For the toilet paper test You are Supposed to shake it up and That makes the Paper resolve quicker and it will dissolve

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  ปีที่แล้ว

      I considered that but my RV when parked is not shaking so I wanted to see what TP sitting in water would look like! Besides flushing of the toilet there is minimal agitation when sitting still so I was curious!

  • @KevinCoop1

    In other peoples #2 TP videos, GV Everyday Soft was either a tie or winner. Good video. So, if you dump every 7 days, you have TP that is 7,6,5,4,3,2,1, and just dropped in. End result, lots of water is key!

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I know that it would be paper at every stage that is why I did the 7-day test so I would know at every stage what the paper is doing! The final result to me is just about any TP breaks down the same with some agitations. Also, water is your friend it is free to dump so use as much as you can every time!

    Your black tank is NOT a septic tank. It’s simply a holding tank! Do not use chemicals to break the material down. Something for odor is ok but you don’t want to break it down because you’ll end up with a hard to remove sludge that’ll coat your sensors and never fully empty. You can also use whatever TP you prefer. And Rt tank cleaning company will tell you these same things.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We fully agree with you that it is just a holding tank! The video was not about what chemicals are in the tanks, but how different brands of toilet paper react to just water in your tanks! We feel that after this video if you use enough water any toilet paper can be used in an RV! We did a follow up test to see how the different chemicals react to the Toilet paper you can check out here! th-cam.com/video/RSY9nnXN66M/w-d-xo.html We don't use any chemicals that aid in the breakdown of the contents of the tank! We have had great success with some dawn, borax, and happy camper to help with odor!

    Do you do anything before you use your toilet area I always running about 2 gallons of water and I have a RV supplement I put in before we even use the black tank so there’s water in it to help with already start to dissolve stuff I don’t put anything in a dry tank we set up the camper I put in 2 gallons of water down the toilet and then we go from there and we use an RV toilet paper and we have never had any problems

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We live fulltime so we never really stop using it! The day before travel day we dump and flush really good! I then put 10 gallons of water in each tank and add tank treatments! We use the bio geo method which is dawn, borax and happy camper in black tanks, and zep citrus degreaser, borax and happy camper in the grey tanks! We then let the travel day slosh the treatment around and when we arrive we use tanks until full!

I do periodically rinse out the tank but never had any problems. i also use a liquid sanitizer for the black water tank.

    Day 7 you would have a mix of day 1 to day 7. If you have a Macerator Toilet you need to tell people that if they are wrappers and wrap 50 sheets around their hand they cannot flush it as it will bind the pump. Be safe. I couldn't count because every minute some one came in talking to me, guessing 65 number 2s.

    It matters if you are parked a long time or move often. I use Cottonelle Aloe and is dissolves great after a few days and a drive to the next destination. If you don't dump all the time and drive to next spot then dump when you get there, it's just as good as using a macerator.
