There are no RVs designed and built for future maintenance and repair. They are built as fast as possible with the fewest steps possible.

I think what they want is not to be able to fix their RVs, they want you to have to bring it back to them to fix so they can charge you a year's paycheck. Just my humble opinion. Safe Travels.

I used to work in a Fleetwood manufacturing plant & all I can say is...You're not wrong! Although it wasn't a repair shop to fix problems, I saw how they were made from start (bare frame) to finish (out to the holding area for shipping) & they were *LITERALLY* put together with wood glue, staples & self-tapping or sheet metal screws. They are *NOT* made to last for any length of time!

My steps on a Thor Windsport 33x have stopped working and are the same Lippert step. The steps are stuck out and a purple wire is hanging down under the step, and all the fuses are still good. It's been raining here and that's as far as I've gotten. Has anyone got any answers to this problem. The purple wire has a connector on the end, but I can't find where it could connect. The Lippert website says the purple wire is for the step light, but the light switch works. They say unhook steps and tie them up and take to a shop. That usually means a month in the shop. Has anyone run into this problem? If so please help. Thank you!

ERIC A few years ago you bought an old basic motor home that already had one foot in the grave, And yes all the bells and whistles on a basic unit have a preplanned life span, Now if you want to be serious find a PREVOST base unit ( that is one of the manufactures of highway coaches that have a million and a half plus mile expected live span). Then you go basic unit NO SLIDE OUTS quality on board diesel gen set, 1200 or 2400 x 24.5 highway tires again will run well over 200,000 miles before replacing,
It will just be a basic unit quality built to run the highways and byways .
    Just a thought

Powered stairs, two motors for each slide out, fresh water pump, waste tank monitors, powered levelers, and on and on. These are complex machines with so many moving parts and wired devices. You have done a 180 degree turn in your travels. I saw you looking at that Bertha-like van the other day. Wistful for a simpler life with more time for travel and exploration instead of repairing that ranch home on wheels?

hey eric, they build them so fast. coachman is know to build it as fast as they can. with parts that are crap.back in the 80s, they build super nice rvs & campers. maybe when it comes times for tires or something, just trade it in for a better class a. been more of a pain for you, vs haveing fun with it. jaxs is saying time for a new one dad.

Hey Eric, not to be that guy, but did you guys use thread locker or locking nuts? If you didn't, look into it so your nuts don't get loose...and your RV steps too!

They are making things harder to repair these days.... cellphones, laptops, cars, etc... See Louis Rossman videos - who is an advocate to the "Right to Repair" movement....
