I mean the bar worked fine the first time they dropped the car on it and only slightly bent after being dropped a second time when it was already weakened. Nevermind that it held up better than the windshield of the car which is what those rollbars are designed to do. It's not even a proper test because in a car that is actually all together a bar like that would have more support. Nevermind that having a rollbar is better than no rollbar at all.
@@Jaqen-HGhar did we watch the same video? The style bar provided no support just like the dummy’s neck and windshield. I’d say the bar they dropped the car on didn’t do anything. Even worse it could not hold the weight of the stripped chassis from a minor six foot drop with no other G forces acting on it. Huge difference between the back roll bar in the nice Miata versus this piece made from fused together coca cans.
@@iPlungerApparently not because the video I watched showed a first drop happening on the bar in the exact angle and direction that the bar "failed" the second time. At 14:13 the car falls sideways at an angle after already being lifted and guess what? It didn't didn't even flex (only bending slightly but enough to set it up for failure the second time) and despite all the weight going on one side of the bar. The only reason the dummy hit it's head was due to it landing on the tire. So then the second time at 16:43 the bar "fails" due to already being slightly bent from the first drop and it only gives somewhat in the direction it was already bends somewhat and returns to support the weight of the car despite the windshield caving in. Had the bar actually failed it would have bent as much as the windshield. The bar is still above the seat even after all that which my original point was that it's better than nothing at all and you can see they are trying to make it look much worse than it is by bending on it it as hard as possible after turning the car over right away but even the dude says that all the bolts are still in place (despite Zach trying to make that not the case). The second test is pointless because no one would reuse bars after a rollover and especially after they were already visibly bent before even starting so there is no reason to re run the test other than they didn't want to waste the video. Maybe if they had titled the video, "Do cheap rollover bars still protect you after an accident?" That would have been more honest but no. Also you used the term style bars which are a totally separate thing and literally say when you purchase them or if part of an OEM package that they are not rollover bars and will NOT protect you in the event of a rollover. So if they are trying to pass off style bars as actual rollover bars as a legitimate test that's even worse.
@@Jaqen-HGhar At 14:26, the windshield frame landed on top of the tires which prevented the roll bar from touching the ground. These types of cheap roll bars have limited points of contact to frame and thus less structural rigidity are very unsafe. Welder/fabricator here - DOM tubing is awesome. However your description is inaccurate: the thing that gives it consistent strength in every direction is the fact that it is drawn over a mandrel and NOT welded. If you look inside a DOM tube, there is no seam. A weld seam like you get in normal, cheap hot rolled ERW (electric resistance welded) tube causes a difference in hardness and therefore strength along that weld in the tube. The DOM process eliminates the need for a weld seam and so gives the tubing awesome, consistent strength properties - perfect for a roll cage. Anyways, love the show. Keep up the awesome content! I'm sure the only thing that bar is meant to protect is the owners ego & should come with a disclaimer "for decorative purposes only"...
Heavier isn't always better. You can have a lighter but much stronger material. With the way it's mounted though, it's only as strong as the mounting area of the chassis.
@@Brodolf_Gainzdeer was thinking the same thing, as the roll bar didn't deform, just move forward.
When i bought mine the style bar was screwed into the plastic seat belt tower covers... With wood screws 👀

10:10 YaY !!! You are installing the cheapo. 🤪👍13:00 🤣😂🤣🤦
The forklift getting destroyed made my day!! 😂 cool vid bro’s
The silence after the car fell, everyone standing there like uhhhhhh 😂💀💀
Dude... oil based paint markers... they even have multiple colors. Easier to wield in tight spaces. Also great for marking bolts. Clean and tidy, fit right in the toolbox.👍
The welder in me cringes hardcore every time Zach uses an angle grinder without a guard and without gloves, espescially with that 1mm cutting disk. Like yikes man. Literally one kickback, one misplacement, one shitty or bum disk and you're out at least a finger. Big ol nope.
16:26 made me cringe so hard 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
The Machinist on me is glad he didn't have gloves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Or ear protection either
@@lucysmith4242 never wear gloves while operating rotating equipment lol it could end worse than losing a finger
@@SonophiIe ear protection for weak battery grinder? You have too much time writing these comments
“Install a rollbar before putting in seats” I guess we know what’s the next upgrade they’re putting in
Definitely l mean look at those ratty tattered up seats he needs new ones anyways.
@@jamesfair9751 Plus seats (probably) will stop him smacking his head on the rollbar
Maybe I missed it, but for anyone else wondering, in the previous track episode, Zach's best was a 1:56, vs his new 1:50 lap.
me watching James getting tattooed "Powered by dodge" for the 30th time
"that's a possibility" 1 minute later the forklift is on the ground lmao.
You know, The funny thing is, I don't know Jack about cars. But I watch Donut. Simply because I get a kick out of watching Donut. Keep up the good work, guys.

hi shrek
Also I wanted to add, when you were talking about the shapes of the roll bars. The triangular shape in the engineering field is called a "truss" it bring the force from a "face" of a shape to the connections of a truss. If you go into a large department store and you look up at the ceiling, you will see metal bent into a lot of triangles too!
day 2 of asking Donut to give us a special series for James' AE86
You Should have test dropped the ”moneypit miata” with the 600$ bar to compare ;)
1:37 “you think the cheap one will work?” “No it will break” chair: let me show how.
Zach is definitely one of my favorite automotive TH-camrs ever!! And those blue eyes😍😂
