The deal is you pay $300 once and get access to Nebula forever, no matter what, no takesy backsies. This isn’t the most economical deal, the annual subscription for $30 a year is. So if you want the best deal I’d go with that. This deal is for those of you that want to support creators and what we’re trying to achieve with Nebula. We want to make a platform that is creator owned, with Original smart highly produced content. We want to build a platform that isn’t about generating clicks no matter what. Recently Nebula has been laser focussing on Nebula Original, highly produced content that’s only on Nebula and would normally be beyond the budget for normal creators to make. Lifetime memberships are a great way to fund those projects right now. Nebula already has a healthy amount of monthly and yearly subscribers which means as a platform we don’t need to take on any outside funding or answer to predatory investors. Everything the platform makes goes into paying the creators, producing content, and improving the platform. Lifetime memberships are a way for us to get a lump sum without sacrificing Nebula’s independence. The Originals that have been created so far are already impressive, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what is possible with a bigger budget and even though I haven’t produced an Original yet, the possibilities they present are incredible and I have a ton of topics I know could only work as Nebula Originals. We’re also significantly improving the quality of the Nebula app. For example, we just added support for LG TVs and Roku this year. When you sign up for a lifetime membership, your payment get split 3 ways. First, part of your membership goes directly to the creator, me. Another amount goes towards fixing bugs and adding features to Nebula. And lastly it goes to funding Nebula Originals. The money that makes these projects possible comes directly from the people who sign up to Nebula, our customers are the investors and so the platform answers to them and their desires rather than a boardroom. I care about Nebula. I care about its success. I love the team behind it and think we’re doing incredible work. The safety it provides me and this channel is invaluable. If you believe in it too and want to be a part of its success for years to come and a Nebula Lifetime Membership sounds interesting click here go.nebula.tv/lifetime?ref=cogito . This is for the people that truly care about what we’re building here and want to support it beyond the regular subscription. For most of you though the annual $30 a year subscription is still the best deal and you’ll get access to everything Nebula has to offer through that deal and this channel will still get a part of that too. No matter what choice you go with, I appreciate you watching!
Great video! You should do a video about Puerto Ricans. One of our freedom fighters, Pedro Albizu Campos, was actually involved in writing the first Irish constitution!
Definitely was not expecting a 1hour long video about Bengali Culture. There isn’t many in-depth videos like this about Bengal on TH-cam. Much appreciated Cognito
As a Bengali (from West Bengal), it makes me sad to think how much turmoil my ancestors had to go through and how we were pulled down from the riches to rags. But we are growing again and we are growing fast. I hope one day both West Bengal and Bangladesh will hold high places in the world in terms of science, technology, arts and culture.
There's no high places to hold for West Bengal, Brother. It's either India or India. Growth, prosperity or whatever, the only torchbearer of the Bengali people is 🇧🇩

@@temptemp4174 what kind of question is that? west bengali people are a part of the nation of india and they have a bengali identity as well as a indian identity and bond with the nation. its not as easy just join bangladesh. people had a choice to migrate from their land and go to east bengal/east pakistan aka bangladesh from their home in west bengal due to the whims of the british, some did and the rest chose to stay in the land they have been living as their ancestors did before them. the idea of East Pakistan wasn't originally for "Bengali people" it was for a Muslim nation like Pakistan, it was later that it turned out to be Bangaldesh- for the Bangla People identity rather than the East-West Pakistani Muslim identity. I'm a Bangladeshi Buddhist from Chittagong. I moved to France at 13 yo with family. While I appreciate all the opportunities that France provided me, I also missed Bangladesh. I felt robbed of a Bengali growing up experience, kind of a "nostalgic attachment" you can call it. But I feel like this video explains why I felt that way better than I ever could put into words. Thank you ❤️
You didn't miss much. Most bengalis can only dream of living in a country like France. While the culture, food is decent in BD, the quality of life is terrible
Trying to understand one's identity is a very important feeling. People are attracted to their roots naturally. I am happy you felt validated by this video.
Just watched on Nebula! My wife and I, two of the most obnoxious proud Bengali bores you could imagine, who pride ourselves on knowing our history and culture, learnt so much. I am so blown away that you’ve managed such an expansive overview and I love all the attention to little details. Food! Football! Some innovative pronunciations too 😜 So many references! Like an academic thesis. I especially appreciated the medieval history, as well as detailed coverage of the horrors of Partition and the 1970s. My family were heavily involved with relief efforts after the cyclone and then the war, episodes that so few in the West know much about, with most coverage about Independence focusing on the Western border. At times it was a really hard watch, but you’ve done an amazing job. খুব ভালো, জয় বাংলা!

@@semaj_5022 thanks but our idea of success is different from GDP yardstick of measuring success. Tagore is the most well-known and beloved Indian writer in Korea because he expressed active solidarity with Koreans when Korea was under Japanese imperialist rule. His poem is taught in textbooks, and there is a bronze bust of him in Daehagro, the center of literature and theater (where Tagore's plays are often performed as well) and it's often decorated with fresh garlands. The founder/director of the Indian Museum fell in love with Indian and Bengal culture through her love of Tagore's works. I haven't read all of his works (please cut me some slack, there's just too many), just some poems and short stories and plays, but each time it amazes me how beautifully written and also perceptive and progressive (even by today's standards) they are. I enjoyed how the Netflix movie Bulbul included not only Bengali folklore, but also references to Tagore's works. I will definitely read Gora (and Rokeya Hossain's works!) after watching this video.

Thanks! Bengali people are resilient and your video is the proof of that. The video was very well researched and deserves bigger audience. Absolutely incredible video. Had literal goosebumps I am a Bengali from Bangladesh but I liked how you didn't focus on Bangladesh or West Bengal, rather represented the entire history, culture as a whole which is exactly what we are. We may be divided by borders, but are Bengalis wherever we may be. Also incredibly accurate considering the time limitations I always felt like Bengali history and culture isn't as represented at the world stage as it should be but this was incredible These last three centuries hasn't been the best but may we rise again as a secular, peaceloving, developed nation and people. Wow, this is some really great work. And it's amazing that it's available for free on the internet. I am not even from Bengal but the way you described the famines and operation searchlight brought me to tears.
As a Bangladeshi, our history books and national events mainly focus on Pakistan ruling and liberation war. I wish kids in my country would know history before 1947 more deeply and realise how we Bangalis were one of the biggest if not the biggest sufferers of British Empire. Although we are taught about our golden past but the part how it was brutally snatched from us, how we went from artists to farmers due to starvation and oppression should be taught more clearly and boldly as we are taught about Pakistani oppression. Really loved this video, the details were amazing. Proud to be a Bangali.
I have been following this channel for nearly a year and honestly, I feel gobsmacked after watching this complete 1 hour long video. I'm a Benagli from India (and a long time subscriber), today you make me proud by revisiting the history (though I have read most of it in school but in bits and pieces, this is the best video which merged them). That Russia - India Vs USA - Pak - China was the best part. Loved this video.
I am a Bengali(from Bangladesh) living in Germany. Your video almost brought me to tears at some point. Bengal has fallen from the richest part of the world to the poorest economy in early 1970's. Which started mid-18th century with the start of British rule and then Pakistanis. I wish wish Bengal was never divided. Kudos to you for this thorough video. And I can say from my knowledge you are spot on. Great job to the editor/production team. This is very well made. I can imagine how hard it can be to produce a video of this quality starting from research to final product. To people all over the world, Bengali Language is the sweetest. And our food is also one of the best if not the best in my humble opinion. After trying food from almost all over the world. Feel free to listen to any Rabindra Sangeet (Music) or try some of our food. I believe you won't be disappointed. Cheers! 💝💝
Wow! Couldn’t have asked for a better video on this topic. As someone who received 1-12th grade general education in Bangladeshi curriculum in Saudi Arabia based school - I learned so many intricate details and nuances about the greater Bengal region in this video. Goes on to show the level of depth and painstaking research the people involved with the production of this video went through. I could be wrong but I’m not aware of any video in such depth on this topic in Bangla on youtube. Super grateful to the people involved in the production of this video.
As a Bengali who grew up outside of the country, I thank you for making such an amazing video. I've learned so much today about my roots and culture and it's rich history!
As a Bangladeshi, I can vouch for the pure excellence of this video. It has even taught me some history that I was unaware of, but more importantly, the video gave me repetitive goosebumps and rejuvenated a sense of pride for my nation.
Normally I don't like 20min+ lengthy videos but this was exceptional. As a Bengali you have my deepest gratitude for delivering this excellent analysis on our heritage.
As a Bangladeshi, this video made me cry so much. The people of my country went through so much suffering to defend the country I live in so lavishly. I will never forget the sacrifice of the people of Bengal. Without their sacrifice, none of us would be able to be free. I see my classmates and even elders make fun of and hate on my country because we are “poor and underdeveloped.” The only thing that matters to Bangladeshi people is Religion. It is heartbreaking to see how much beautiful culture we have ignored because of our focus on religion. I only wish that one day they will realise what Bangladesh has become and how much culture and history there is behind every single thing here. One thing I admire about India is how proud they are of both their country and religion simultaneously. I only wish for that to happen in Bangladesh as well.
Yeah ppl now focus on the religious aspects nd tends forget bout the rich history nd culture which is our tru core. I can only hope dat someday ppl know the depth of sacrifices day were made to preserve the Bengal identity. Our language is air we breath nd our rich culture nourishes us. Sadly ppl from both sides bring on religion to win a futile argument like can’t we all be just proud dat we’re blessed to speak the sweet language dat our ancestors have fought for ?
I'm Telugu American, my parents are from Andhra Pradesh. I've been trying to understand my history and my roots, my entire life. Thanks for adding a metric load of history and culture to my identity to draw from.
Ikr, half of the communal problem will be sorted out if both the countries include the entire history/or the history related to their region to their education system.
Which textbook are you using, and how do you interpret it? You must have read the British CIE-approved textbook, where they portray themselves as the saint of God that brown skin needed. In our history class, we learned about Bengal's pre-Islamic dominance, the British Empire's barbaric reign, and Bangladesh's historic liberation war.
Taught me more about Bengal than I've ever been aware of as a British Bangladeshi - but it was so cool to recognise some of the names, events and food 💚❤️💚
There are a province/state in India called WEST BENGAL shares it's border line with the independent country BANGLADESH. Before August 1947, when India was undivided, Bangladesh means both Bangladesh and west bengal. The country now is known as Bangladesh since 1971 actually known was East Bengal. Later known as East Pakistan. In Bangladesh most people are Muslims when in West Bengal most people are Bengali. Men wear long/short Kurti with jeans/trousers/pajamas but formally wear shirts where women wear traditionally cotton/silk/jamdani sarees and casually wear salwar kamij/ kurti trousers. Dhakai Jamdani/bengali tant/kantha stitch/baluchori are popular work for fabrics. Women usually wear gold or terra cotta ornaments, sometimes pearls. Comparing rest of India, Bengalies prefer light coloured outfit and less ornaments. Shantiniketan in Bolpur is a popular place in West Bengal. Pronunciation is different in Bangladesh, Tripura and West Bengal people. In Kolkata people speak most formal Bengalies. Many Bengalis in both Bengal are secular comparing other South Asians. Unfortunately, common Bengali's income are less comparing other races in South India.

As a Bangladeshi, I can't thank you enough for making such a detailed videos about us. As a Bengali from Kolkata, WB, I really appreciate your efforts and the video is quite informative. Although it was a long video, it would have been great if you could add a bit about Bengali language movements in India, especially in Assam (still ongoing) and how Purulia became a part of West Bengal.

A lot of other animated history channels on TH-cam often cover European and American wars and the sort, and it’s a nice breath of fresh air to see you extensively (to the best of your ability) go over a variety of cultures. My 63 year old Indian father has traveled all around the world, including Bengal (has lived there for 8 years), and speaks the language fluently. He absolutely loved watching this with me, and I’m aware others have expressed their appreciation for this video, but truly, thank you. As a Bangladeshi, I believe this is a video all Bengalis must come across at least once, from start to finish, the level articulacy, creativity and detail presented is incredible! Thank you very much for giving us a such an amazing and educative video regarding our culture, heritage and history.
While it's true that the video oversimplified many complex issues, we can't blame them entirely. A Herculean task is condensing a thousand years of history into just one hour. Still, it's hard to deny the dedication and hard work that went into making this video. Now, there's a crucial point I'd like to address. It might seem like a minor detail, but it's essential. The video mentions that the Pakistani army caused 1.7 million casualties. However, based on my understanding, the actual number is "AT LEAST" 3 million lives lost. That's a staggering difference. And it's not just lives lost; "AT LEAST" two hundred thousand women were subjected to unimaginable horrors through rape. But the devastation doesn't end there. The aftermath of this conflict resulted in widespread destruction, including the leveling of buildings, the tearing up of roads, and the destruction of railroads. Even just before their defeat, they went on killing the brilliant minds of our country, like professors, teachers, lawyers and journalists. Bangladesh still to date struggles to recover from this catastrophe. Recognizing the tragedy's full scope is essential to understand its impact on the affected region. In the end, while the video may have shortcomings in portraying the complexity of history, it undeniably serves as a powerful starting point for those seeking to learn more about this significant chapter in the Bengals' past.
You are right. Our education system, progress level in science and technological sector, film industries etc would have been so advanced if December 14 didn’t happen.
While in Bangladesh, that is the figure, its actually slightly less according to Internation figures. Which is probably what he went with. Which one is right is debatable, but usually its suggested to use neutral sources, like Australia or something.
It’s actually 300,000. The misconception comes from when Sheikh Mujib was on an English Talk show and he asked what 3 lakh was in English, and someone told him 3 million. It’s on the official transcript.
Catholic Bengali here! I grew up almost my entire life in America and honestly feel a bit ashamed of my cultural disconnect, both as a Bengali & an Indian as a whole, & love to learn about it whenever I get. Thank you so much for this video! (I feel so spoiled; an hour long too!)
@@SheikhAhmadShah False. Bangla and India are one and the same thing. Perso-Arabic forces pushed East Bangla out of India's cultural sphere. But you guys still use an Indic Bengali script (not Perso Arabic) for writing Bengali, use a National Anthem written with zero Arabic words in it by an Indian nationalist Bengali and sing the classical music which originates from the ancient Indian Sanskrit text Natyashastra. Get this in your mind, only BANGLADESH is separate from India, Bengal as a whole is not.
Awesome video! As a Bangladeshi, I really appreciated learning more about our history. It’s great! I hope more people from around the world get to visit Bangladesh. Thank you for this!
I like how the video talked about Bengali and Bengal rather than a India or Bangladesh. We Bengalis have always been one and will keep being so, ofcourse there's a border but that has never stopped us being super fond of eachother.
Get out of that illusion! What happened during the referendum? Direct action day? Millions of Hindu Bengalis suffered, still suffer! So, I would rather focus on the Bengal of India for the present and the future. History is done and gotten away with it's ugly lessons. If you have forgotten it already, you invariably invite it to repeat itself, which we don't want at any cost. Nothing is goodie goodie rosy out there, we had to literally walk on thorns. And the pains have yet not been relieved. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat. Vande Mataram.
Still keeping culture above religion while they checked your dicks whether u were circumcised or not to decide whether to let your women go or not during the Liberation war. That's your legacy.
As an Indian Bengali from Kolkata, that "bungalow" fact blew me away! Also "hansjaru" is a character from Sukumar Ray's "Abol Tabol" literally meaning "Nonsense". This video is AMAZING! So well made! I cry. ❤🥹
@@reallybadgameplay513 actually there are many people in Indian now a day that out their states name before the name of their country or sometime they don't even mention their country they just say their state name like it's a different country 😕 So that's why I was happy that this guy says indian before Bengali not that he can't be proud of being a Bengali but your country should always be above your state😎🗿
I am a Mangalorean Catholic with Goan Heritage. Our language Konkani surprisingly has lots of Bengali Loanwords. Also, the pronunciation and sounds are influenced a lot by Bengali even though our language is closer to Marathi. Just like Bengali, people also call Konkani a sweet language.
The Bengal was so globalised that Chittagong, the port city had 49 different names at its peak..I am so proud for where i've been born, which Language i've been inherited..It's just a momentary simplification of happiness for me to watch this gem on my Identity.. A bengali from the land of bengalis"Bangladesh"...
As a Bengali, I can not thank you enough for making this video. I couldn't possibly show how grateful I am right now. Hope our culture and history is known to everyone around the world
This video should be a mandatory watch at every schools, for every single people in Bangladesh. Very well presented 🎉. Very proud to be a Bengali currently living in Canada.
As a Bengali who's ancestors moved to India during partition, this video is reminding me of the the stories I heard from my grandmother who was 6-7yo during partition and moving to India leaving everything she knew and loved behind are some of her earliest childhood memories... I feel so heart broken for the entire Bengali community, doesn't matter which country. Partition, whether in Bengal or in Punjab, it sucked a lot that we can't even imagine. I can't imagine leaving or losing everyone and everything I love and care about in a snap and never to be seen again
My ancestor moved to Bangladesh during the partition. I so want to know about the life and the land my ancestors lived. Although we are connected, we are separated by a line.
Bengal suffered more than Punjab because the population exchange never happened unlike Punjab , and huge refugee crisis during 1971 also altered demography.
I can confidently recognize this video as the best and the most comprehensive documentary on the Bengalis. Kudos. Every Bengali student or anyone interested in the history and culture of this region should watch this video.
Thanks! I am from Tripura . it was really a very nice representation . I really feel bad seeing todays scenario. What we had in the past and today what we have become .
Never expected an hour long video on Bengal, I am a bengali and approve of this video. Yes there's lot more to the history. I often think if both of the Bengal were joined back together all of us could flourish again the way we always have in the past. The atrocities done to us so many years ago are felt to this day. However, we are still moving ahead and flourishing in one way or another in the world stage. I would surely watch a second part of this, just to put it out there! ❤❤👌
My parents are from Bangladesh, but I always say I’m Bengali-American, not Bangladeshi-American. Some lines on a map created to serve sectarian interests can’t convince me West Bengalis and East Bengalis aren’t one people ❤ thank you for the video!
Seeing all the comments i will only conclude that the problem with unification of west bengal and bangladesh is the lack of education. If the whole population was educated enough to think and understand above religious lines , then we could never be divided. My grandparents also migrated from bangladesh to india during 1950s. I can see people fighting over religion in comment section, they are still dumb enough to understand that language is more powerful than religion.
But the fact remains that there is a difference. One was once East Pakistan and fought for independence while the other was part of India and remained as such.
East Bengal is no no-more Bengali, much of it has been Arabized, now their attire, food habits, language has been replaced with Burkha, Beef, and Urdu.
I am from Kerala, but idk why I felt so many goosebumps after listening to this whole video. And first time I have seen the different view of Bengal irrespective of Indo-ban border. Simply wow!!!!
Ok. You will be surprised how much Bengali culture has weird similarities with Kerala.... like, Bengalis use coconut and fish in their meals like us. Most of them are not clear cut similarities but we can feel it when you interact with them. Of course their cultural history and influence are far far greater than Kerala's but the similarities are uncanny. We always had Bengali singers and Composers making Malayalam movie songs... Take our classic "chemmeen" for example.
41:39 this speech is something that gives me literal goosebumps and brings me to my knees knowing that my country suffered and struggled to see us, the descents speak in a language with sweet music, great poetry and one of the most sweetest language.
My best friend and one of my co-workers are both from Bangladesh, so this was a neat surprise! Through interactions with them and a few others, such as an Indian Bengali professor, I've grown to love Bengali people. I get the impression that they're energetic, hospitable, and willing to talk frankly. My bestie and her family want me to take a tour of Bangladesh with them someday soon, and it's definitely high on my bucket list. It's up there with Japan, which is saying a lot as a recovering weeaboo. I wish the best for Bengalis on both sides of the border, and I hope that their commonality wins out over religious and political division.
Here's the background for the Bangladeshi flag: The red disc is offset slightly toward the hoist so that it appears centered when the flag is flying. The flag is based on a similar flag used during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, which had a yellow map of the country inside the red disc. In 1972, this map was removed from the flag because of the difficulty for rendering the map correctly on both sides of the flag. The first version of the flag was designed and made by a section of student leaders and activists of Swadheen Bangla Nucleus in June 1970 at Dhaka University. The flag was made from clothes donated by Bazlur Rahman Lasker, the owner of Apollo Tailors at the Dhaka New Market. The map of what would be the new country was first traced from an atlas by the students and then was painted in the red circle by Shib Narayan Das. According to Shib Narayan Das, the green on the flag represents the landscape and the red circle represents the sun to symbolize a new day and end of oppression from Pakistan.
@@habibaurmee7727not really, as someone from Bangladesh we were taught as kids that the red in the flag represents the sun rising from the horizon stained with our blood spilled from gaining freedom from 1971. Yes the Awami league has had a socialist bg when it was in charge of the government directly after the war under Sheikh Mujibor Rahman, but its slowly changing course towards a more capitalistic approach and not focusing on agriculture entirely. Basically its like the CCP except they dont entirely have the balls to pull off social credit system or are able to completely able to brainwash people to the point they are ultra-nationalist and willing to be martyrs. Ive seen my own generation not give a damn abt politics and more interested in building a career and achieving success in life.

Yes sad and infuriating that we bengalis dont know our history. We need to embrace our culture and our language more without embracing western culture so much
and this is the result of our recent politics and ignorance, in Bangladesh how government teaching it if u ask someone they at the very best will mention the "pallasy battle" then go to "shipahi bidroho" then all about from 1950-1971. they dont really teach the Golden time of our bengal and more historical figures.

Our ancestors have made numerous achievements and made us proud, not only in Asia but the entire world. Thank you so much for making this awesome tribute to our great civilisation. Bengal and Irish people also have great connection. The revolutionary on both sides supported each other against British colonism. Swami Vivekanada the fire brand religious leader had an Irish follower who made Kolkata her home. Sister Nivedita was and still is a revered person in Bengal history

MORE ON LIFETIME MEMBERSHIPS:
For the month of September Nebula is offering a lifetime membership deal.
This is your best video, well done sir

Bangla and India are two separate things. British pushed East Bangla into India.

I'm sure it also reminds the people of all the blood that was spilled by the countrymen and countrywomen to get this freedom.

Bengal and Irish people also have great connection. The revolutionary on both sides supported each other against British colonism. Swami Vivekanada the fire brand religious leader had an Irish follower who made Kolkata her home. Sister Nivedita was and still is a revered person in Bengal history
Never trust the Irish though...
They also helped British invading India
We love the irish, except Connor mcgregor
Thank you so much! Not a lot of people understand the Bangladeshi or Bangali culture! I am so glad you used your platform to raise more understanding about us and our culture. I can assure you, Bangalis are the nicest and friendliest people ever! They are so welcoming and hospitable.
Much needed; much love.
Great respect from Greece to the Bengali people for their determination in fighting for independence despite all that they endured
As a Bangladeshi, I really appreciate how well-researched and well-put this video is. Huge props to you and your team.
As a Bengali immigrant in India how my Grandfather and Grandmother moved here with nothing and still nurtured my father and all his siblings still gave me goosebumps. What a nice video....
