I used to have the same mentality as you with washing dishes, I didn't see the point of running things through the dishwasher when I could wash it by hand, but then I started reading up about how much more water is used when washing dishes by hand! I was so surprised that dishwashers actually use very little water, only 3-5 gallons per cycle for newer more efficient models! Just something to consider when you get your new dishwasher 😊💕

That’s what I’ve been hearing! I try to save water by scrubbing all the dishes first then turning the water on to rinse them. There was an episode of Barney I still remember from when I was little when he sings a song about never letting the water run and it always stuck with me😂😂 I swear every time I turn water on it starts singing in my head😂 I’m sure once we eventually get a new dishwasher and try it out I’ll end up loving it! 💛

@@OurLittleNest Just a little FYI... I was told that the dishwasher I had sitting unused for 8? years, that there was a strong possibility that the gaskets and hoses could dry up and go bad, causing it to leak when and if I ever did finally use it... so have the gaskets and hoses checked before you use it if it's been sitting unused for too many years.

@Mikki Taylor what seemed like torture then would seem like heaven sent now that my Grandma has passed. I have the memories of standing on a stool in front of her big porcelain sink with the built in dish drainer (the same "farm" sink people are paying huge $'s for now) & listening to her hum or sing gospel songs, The Old Rugged Cross was a favorite & think about the things my grandchildren won't have memories of like I do. I think about how our world becoming more of this & more of that has really taken away from at least 2 generations of people. There's something to be said for learning how to wash dishes from a beloved grandma.

If you haven't already labeled the buttons, I highly recommend using a Brother P Touch Labeler. It's not expensive, it's fast and easy and makes neat, clean laminated labels. Black letters on a clear background would probably be best for stainless steel. Tape comes in widths of 1/4", 1/2”,3/4”,1”. Multiple fonts and font sizes. I've used mine to label toaster and washer buttons, remote controls, light switches and the tape has lasted years.

I normally use the dishwasher as a dry rack to dry the dishes after handwashing them and to tuck them away to save counter space. In regards to this stainless steel hack approach, I think that I will give this one a try. I was initially going to try the contact paper approach, but not sure if I could pull that one off perfectly. This approach seems much more easier. Also, try getting your dishwasher fixed through a home warranty service if you have one in place, it's much cheaper than buying a new one or at least it's much cheaper to get it repaired with one than without one. Nonetheless, t hanks for posting this hack.

I don’t use the dishwasher either, I use those rectangular containers: one for soapy water and one for rinsing, and don’t waste much water. But, if we have people over, I do like to use it as it’s too many dishes. Something I don’t like about dishwasher, it’s how the dishes deteriorate and even break because the water is so hot!

    • @jpeek1009
      @jpeek1009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That hot water is what sanitizes your dishes! I’ve used a dishwasher for over 30 years and the heat has never deteriorated or broke my dishes. If you leave the heat setting off on the drying cycle you won’t damage your dishes.

Hi, I just watched your video showing your process for painting and this video and they were excellent! Thank you!
As far as the labels go, I have a Brother P-touch (model PT-D210) and it would do exactly what you need. The print looks like a laser or ink jet, and it can do from large to really tiny letters. And you can buy clear tape.

Project looks great. I did the tub in our previous house (pink to white). Seems like a similar process with multiple very thin layers. Same kind of durable paint. I wonder how this would work on a refrigerator since the white fridges have a textured surface.
Only suggestion I would make is next time remove the handle and possibly the door as well then paint them. That way you are sure to have none of the original colour occasionally popping up.
I understand your comment about the microwave. Over the range microwaves are great for venting and illuminating the range. Some of the newer ones also double as a traditional convection oven which is great when you are making a big family dinner.

I have the same type of fan minus the exhaust fan & if the exhaust fan isn't taking the fumes out of the house, which is what an exhaust fan should do I'm not sure what you'd actually be losing by not getting the more expensive microwave. Dishwashers actually sanitize dishes which can’t be achieved with hand-washing. Skin cannot withstand the level of hot water required to sanitize. Also, as you get older, it’s more difficult to see whether you’ve cleaned utensils entirely when washing by hand. My elderly mother washed her forks by hand and I always spotted dried food particles on them whenever I visited 🤮(and when she wasn’t looking, I rewashed mine lol) Just something to think about!

@@jpeek1009 I’m reading this comment after I turned on my dishwasher on hahha! I guess one year has changed me! You are absolutely right, it sanitizes the dishes next level even on a 1 hour cycle. Also saves me so much time after a full day of work

I'm the same way I dont use the dishwasher either, I like washing my own dishes. I feel like everytime I use the dishwasher to doesnt clean them good enough or I have to washed them first so it totally defeats the purpose of a dishwasher haha

Appliances are oil based paint. This is water based? How is this holding up to wear and tear? I don’t think that I saw sanding or a primer.

my MIL came to visit one time and started hand washing my dishes and i freaked out! It's so gross to me lol. Dishwashing uses MUCH LESS water and is more sanitary. It's only 2 of us and i may wash a spoon or knife but I run my dishwasher 2-3X a week.

The thought of using the same nasty dish water that gets cold almost instantly doesn’t really clean your dishes, so I agree!

Not using a dishwasher, I use mine to sanitize. I rinse my dishes first. I am old school, but with the viruses and everything, it works great.

If you have taken a picture of the knobs and text, maybe print it to size on a transparent sticker sheet and stick it to the dishwasher.

Buy a Dymo LetraTag with clear label tape and print the labels with a small text setting

You could take out the dishwasher and put some open shelves if you don’t use the dishwasher anyway.

That’s a good idea! We’re keeping the dishwasher because it adds value to the house when we go to re-sell. Which is why we’ll be getting a new one at some point

Dishwashers are not $1000. We got a brand new dishwasher from lowes and had them install it for like $300 last summer. Also the new dishwasher is so energy efficient and uses less water than washing by hand.

Because our dishwasher is a custom size it’s a lot more expensive, the cheapest we’ve seen is $780. Trust me, we’ve searched everywhere. It’s not on our priority list right now like I mentioned, I would much rather save that money.

It also sanitizes the dishes, which can’t happen with hand washing.
