    I had an old fridge I painted several times, each a different color. I never added new handles. I also didn’t prime, or even sand. Just cleaned real good. The paint always stayed solid till I changed my color pallet. Love yours!

    Pro tip: when drilling metal, start the drill slowly and then speed up. If the drill starts walking, you won't end up with a big scratch. Also if drilling soft metal like aluminum the drill bit won't melt the metal and keep the bit from starting properly.

    I love this idea so much! The color you picked is amazing.
    We have an old white fridge with handles that have yellowed over time. We aren't the types to run out and buy something new for just aesthetics. It's still functional! I tried scrubbing the handles with peroxide and baking soda, soaking them in bleach, and putting them in the sun with tooth whitening peroxide gel, nothing brought them back to bright white,just pale ivory.
    I am taking the towel bar handle idea and leaving our fridge white with stainless steel handles. It's going to look cool. I'm pumped. Thanks again for sharing such a cool idea!

    I predict that large Samsung microwave above your stove will quit working soon. That's just me making a feeble attempt at being funny. Seriously though, I don't wish this upon you, but my husband and I have one and we know of others that it quit working not long after being purchased and they are incredibly horrific to replace (backbreaking to remove). In addition, they will try everything in their might not to fix it under warranty. Horrible customer service. Just a heads up for you. We now use a cute little tiny microwave on our counter. But I thank you for this video. Truly awesome job on the frig! Really like it! Thank you!

      Thanks, and that's awesome you might try this! I can't say for sure if it would work well without pre-drilling since I've never done it, but the screws I used are self-drilling and are said to work without pre-drilling, so I'd imagine it would be fine.

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! And no, piercing the door doesn't seem to have affected my fridge function. I looked a few places online before doing it to make sure it was okay to drill into the front of it, and everything said yes. Though it does get more complicated if there's an ice machine in the door.

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The first sanding is the most important. A light sanding in between coats can give a little more for that layer of paint to stick to, but I don't always do it, and things normally turn out fine. 🙂 So glad you're thinking about doing this! It makes a big difference and is fun.

    Nice job! Your fridge looks awesome! The only thing that I might suggest is to find some door knobs for your cabinets to kind of match the color and style of your fridge handles. Also, just a question...... what did you do with the holes that were left after taking the old handles off? Did you fill them before painting?

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea about matching the cabinet handles! And yes, I filled the holes with wood filler. 🙂 Not sure what the ideal thing to use in that situation would be, but it's want I had, and it worked well!

    • @catherinekilgore619
      @catherinekilgore619 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DIYWhitney That's good that it worked. I don't know how well wood filler would hold up on a metal door, but there is such a thing as a metal hole filler. Hopefully you won't have any problems with the wood filler, but if you do, just get some of the filler for metal. :) I just happened to see your video because I was looking for info on cleaning off and painting a fridge door that has got rust all over both of the doors. I just saw your video. How is the paint holding up after a year?

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's doing pretty well! A few tiny spots need a touch up. I actually just did a review video that includes the fridge if you want to see it:

    What size handles did you get?

    • @DIYWhitney

      I used a 9 and 18 inch bar

    So why do you use a long handle for the lower door instead of one like the top?

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just preference. I liked the look of the longer one, but a shorter one should work just as well!

    JB weld or gorilla glue for the handles.

    I love it!!! If only you had removed rust spots and filled in the spots before painting. Thank you.

    Did you seal the paint with anything? How has it help up?

    • @DIYWhitney
      @DIYWhitney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope - I didn't seal it with anything. It's held up even better than I thought it would! I can even scratch at it with my nails, and it doesn't hurt it. There's a video on my channel where I gave an update on how some of my projects are holding up if you want to check that out and see how it's looking.

    I don't have instagram, but I do want to know how this paint job held up. It's been 3 years now.

    • @DIYWhitney

      I did a 2-year update where I showed how it was doing and did a couple of little touch ups. I hasn't changed since then. Overall, holding up very well. You can find the update video in the description of this video or here th-cam.com/video/Hke9xA34gjw/w-d-xo.html
