I learned to drive in this truck. Parents had one growing up as our second vehicle and weekend workhorse. It was pretty awesome.
I had one of these years ago…and it was a damn good truck! I kinda miss it sometimes 👍

Super reliable trucks. I had a 1992 B2200 5MT that had 450,000km's on it.
My grandpa bought one new, then sold it to my dad, then I got to drive it on the farm. Over 1,000,000 kms on the odometer
I had one with 1200 watt sound system, What a fun little truck one of my best vehicles I've owned! Brings back good memories. Thanks for the video.
Last of the mini trucks sold in the USA that were built & designed by Mazda. I’m a big fan of these trucks.

My first car was an ‘84 B2000, and it was GREAT! I wouldn’t mind getting another one someday.

84 was the first year that the Mazda b series was made by Ford
It's a awesome mini truck. I owned an 1986 same red color with the huge Mazda lettering imprinted on the tailgare (not a sticker or badge) coolest tailgate ever, lowered on Pepboys lowering blocks and Pepboys sound system..so cheesy and cool, love remembering those days I just graduated high school. If I find another I would buy it today in 2019
You should drive an extra cab instead they actually drive like a car and have a Miata transmission just a different 5th gear ratio inside the transmission, and the extra cabs have different gear ratio in the rear differential, I also own an extra cab b2200 great trucks really fun too drive
This generation of b-series shares zero components with the ranger, but the next gen was just a rebadged ranger
There is a dude with one of those near me that he chopped off the roof, panted it purple with a bunch of flake, then turned it into a lowrider
I also have a blown up 2300 with no roof, bed, fenders, or doors.... Was the best beater car ever #RipMethMobile

I have a Mazda B2200 and it is not lacking power, people now days have to have huge engines in cars and I think it's stupid and a wast. My B2200 runs 70mph down the highway, I have pulled trailers (small trailers), hauled lots of lumber and even drove 3 HOURS home with 1100lbs of seed wheat in the back and It never once lacked power.
I hate to see this pickup when your done with it, it's hard to find them in that good of condition
Completely agree with you about the Mazda B2200! Just got my 1st mini truck, 1990 B2200, red short single, I’m in love with this truck!! And it’s an automatic and I couldn’t be happier!!! Only 150k miles!!
When I first came to the U.S in '91, this was my first vehicle. Loved it.
Great truck for a student like I was, when I had one.
Things I did:
- added a tach
- had a sunroof added (easy, with the single layer roof)
- proper sound system
- new wheels
Should have done:
-weber carb
-sliding rear window
Some of these trucks actually came with first gen rx7 3 spoke steering wheel

Mine has it as well as a tachometer.
Mine was a SE-5 version, I had the rx-7 steering wheel, the tachometer and the so badly designed cup holder inside the glove box

I’m pro-Mazda also and okay with Fazda. This verses an early 90s Frontier would be a tough choice when buying.

Good guess. That 1991 Mazda B2200, had the same manual transmission as the Rx-7 and Miata. A superb shifter. In stock form, it is probably the smoothest, sportiest shifter, on _any_ truck. Although the transmission as a whole, most likely would not outlast a Toyota pickup transmission. And people that call those Mazda trucks, "JDM Rangers" are way off. Pre-1994, the Mazda B2000, B2200, and B2600i were unique Mazda creations. Special japanese trucks. However, Mazda trucks after 1993, starting with the Mazda B2300 and B3000, (i think), were the same as a Ford Ranger, (yuck).
Do you have a rough idea of what this trans would hold for power ? I. TDI swapping mine and am planning to use the stock trans
@@coreymolyneaux8677 No I don't, but your question will probably be answered by people with Miatas and Rx7's, who modded their engines, and kept the stock transmission.

I hate somebody took the factory rims off of it. I have a 1989 with 105,000 on it all original. The only bad thing about mine is the previous owner took out the factory radio and speakers but at least I got the factory radio with it just not in it.
I’m pretty sure it has the factory wheels on it. They’re just painted black.
So the US only got rated to 1600lbs? Amazed it's so little, when here in Europe they where rated to carry 2500lbs (About 1100kg).

Just so you know I'm 12
Anyways I've known it since I was 6 when my dad went to collect it from a mechanic
It was a chassis only before that
When he tuned it to his liking it ran like a dream
Was able to drive for 4-5 years before it really broke down
The only thing my dad told me was broken was the spark plugs 😂
But doesn't want to fix it until it has a use
I do miss it but I understand
they look cool stanced, d21 is cooler tho

Will Ferland I believe they are rear wheel drive and have low ground clearance so not good

All small trucks are going to be about the same. Best you can ask for in snow is 4x4.

the gearbox is some sort of derivitive of the mx5 gearbox. ive seen people do short shifter kits from an mx5 into b series mazdas. chur

I had an '87 of the same thing but automatic. Hated that f'n thing. Constant issues with it. I remember the EGR valve clogging up every 20k miles. I'd burn it if I ever saw it again.

I'm not so sure the B2200 was jointly developed with Ford. The B4000 however was 100% ford.
@Damiliola Akanni It wasn’t jointly developed with Ford. The B2300, B2500, B3000 & B4000 were all rebadged Ford Ranger’s.
Learned to drive a manual in one of those, starter never worked, always had to push it off in parking lots or parked on a hill. Motor finally went kaput not long after it stopped smoking and leaking oil.

Ive been doing reviews on 80s and early 90s mini trucks and it seems the ranger is the best overall for power, options, durability, bigger cabin option and side step bed ford ranget for the win 2nd would b old s-10 the newer 1s hav ugly face
