Had a 96' ranger 2.3. It was a great truck and drove it for 250,000 miles. Had to do clutch at 160, ball joints around the same time. Batteries, tires and brakes. Great truck. Always used synthetic oil and changed religiously. Regular cab and just fantastic truck.
I've had good results using aluminum anti-seize compound on battery terminals. Once you've cleaned the posts and connectors, use the little brush inside the can to paint them all over before reassembly. Grease works too but it doesn't have as much staying power.
If the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe is white. It means there is condensation usually meaning coolant is burning. If the smoke has a blueish hue to it then that would be an oil burner.
Have an 03" Edge model 3.0 version bought in 2012 with 112,000. Needed a clutch around 150,000, ball joints again. Tires, brakes shocks, and battery. Needed a radiator and water pump around 150,000. Did a tune up and coil pack. Runs like new. 170,000 and know be fine as a daily
Hello Milo. I have a 1995, love these trucks. 🙏
Thanks for the breakdown!

good info, i'm about to buy an 03
Should have changed rear main seal with clutch. That oil aditive will clog screen on oil pump and starve engine of oil. Fix it
It’s running perfectly. There’s nothing to fix.
Use battery protector spray, its corrosive prohibitor.
