Hey Zack, it was fun meeting and chatting cars with you and I’m glad you enjoyed reviewing my truck. I knew you would love it. You were gone so for long with it I was beginning to think you stole it! Ha Ha
@@M3rsh oh yeah I remember meeting you as I was checking out your 626. I love that car! A 626 LX with a sunroof and 5spd trans is really rare. That would look great in my garage next to the B2600i. If I had a slim jim I would have had your door open in 60 seconds. They’re easy to unlock!
To the owner of this beauty... I am looking for your camper shell. I too have a 90 b26001 le5 4x4 with 70k on it and it desperately needs a camper shell but I can't find any. This video was too far in the back end to identify yours. Any information would be greatly appreciated
@@terimiddleton6596 Hello Teri. The camper shell is not a universal shell to fit all makes and models. It's specific to the 86-93 Mazda Bseries. Made by Stockland of Irvine California. Hope you find one!
I had one of these many years ago. When we were getting ready to leave the Chevy dealership, after I had traded it in on a new truck, my wife could tell that something was wrong. Admittedly, I was a little teary-eyed because I felt like I was abandoning an old friend, with whom, I’d shared so many good times. I loved that little truck. The one in this video is a beautiful example.
I hear you. When I bought my current car, I was more upset about trading in my 2001 Sable wagon than excited about getting my new one. It was a POS that was falling apart but it had taken me on many adventures and through some sketchy situations. It saw me though college all the way to landing my dream job. I didn't realize how attached I was to that car until it was time to walk away for the last time. To some of us, cars are members of the family.
This was my dream truck back around this time. At that time I had an 87 B2000 (base short bed 2WD 5MT) that I had bought new that I loved so a bigger, newer, nicer, more powerful version of the same was a natural choice. I even swapped in the buckets and console of a 2WD version at some point. A year or two later my father bought the 2WD version of this truck - LE-5 and all. It served him well for 10 plus years until he bought a Nissan Frontier
Ok how about a little respect for those tapes in the console; Midnight Oil(Diesel and Dust I presume), INXS Kick(A classic all killer no filler 80s album!) and Icehouse(another killer pop rock album by an underrated 80s Aussie band!) Owner seems to have a focus on Aussie bands!
My first vehicle was a 1993 Mazda B2200 regular cab short bed. I really wanted one of these B2600s with the extended cab, 4x4, flared fenders and bubble hood.
My dad still has one of these with Porsche Recaros, FC RX7 steering wheel, 10" Kenwood sub with Zapco amps, Flowmasters, Factory chrome Mazda Tri-spoke wheels, and a 4Runner front bumper. It's by far my favorite mini truck on the road today.
This truck is clean. These non-Ranger-based trucks have a unique and very Japanese style. It's a shame that because of the chicken tax Mazda had to go with a rebadged Ranger that just doesn't look as good. Given modern Mazda's lineup you'd never think they used to sell a very competent compact pickup.
I love the Mazda B-series! My grandparents had a gold 1987 B2000 cab plus, nicknamed the Gold Truck by the family. That was my favorite truck! I would love to drive/ride it once again.
I miss extended cab compact trucks with jump seats. They were the perfect compromise for seating 3 or 4 people in a pinch without giving up any bed length or making the truck a nuisance in California parking lots like modern 4-door models often are.
I think everyone in my age bracket has ridden in at least one of these square body B Series trucks. I’ve known 3 separate people that have owned them, some have even owned multiple. They’re also great for notching the frames and bagging them.
Too bad the US missed out on the next generation B series after the mid 90s. They were great, tough little trucks. I drove a crew cab B2500 turbodiesel 4x4 lots of miles as a company truck.
Dodge was also Club Cab I have a 96 Mazda B3000 4x4 Cab Plus but mine is in the era where Mazda was rebadging the Ranger. I like it for the simple fact that parts are not as hard to find for it.
As the proud owner of a 1989 Mazda B2200 Cab Plus, I'm so happy to see them starting to get celebrated like this. Yes, they are fantastically underrated trucks that are always overlooked by the Toyotas and Nissans of the era, but they can hold their own just fine. Keep in mind that this was the last true Mazda truck... everything else that came after it was just a rebadged Ford Ranger. I have owned mine for nearly 20 years and I still love it. Also, side note: the Koito headlamps are original and super rare! What a clean truck.
Okay... Now I'm looking to for those. Thanks for giving me a good example of what kind of b series I want now, I used to have a clean 84 b2000 sundowner, wish I could've fixed that thing! But I've always liked these well any Mazda truck that's been mostly Japanese made 😅
Difficult. Say, solid 8 out of 10. When you do find wat you need, I'll give you wat you need! (SWIDT? ;) IT IS GONNA COST... Couple examples from rebuild of my 2.6: Carb $900 Cyl head $1400 Both were nos and head was complete. Still tracking down an oe egr pipe and turn signal stalk. Pretty much resigned to go at a rebuild of the stalk at this point as the only example I could find for sale was a used piece at $450.
I had a 1989 B2600i 4x4 base, standard cab, no A/C, best 4-cylinder small truck ever made period! I have owned them all in this age range. Datsun/Nissan (2) 1982 2.2L and (1) 1986 2.4L (non-hard body) all 4x4, 93’ Toyota base 4x4 R22, 1992 Isuzu amigo 2.6L. All very good vehicles but as far as fit and finish only the Toyota matched it, the Isuzu came close. Engine wise none of them touched the Mazda 2.6L for power; on paper they were close but as for driving on matched it, the torque and gear ratio is the only thing I can think of. I could drive the Mazda all day at 90 MPH the other ones I could not maintain 80 MPH. I know they were not meant to maintain these speeds as the speed limit back when they were made was 55 mph. Towing was no problem with the Mazda. 15” Aluminum drift boat all day long at 70 mph + 5th gear, the Toyota was 60 and had to be down shifted into 4th gear on any incline, any head wind and it was 55 mph and 4th gear full throttle. The Isuzu was in between the two. I never towed anything with the Datsun or Nissan. I guess I never owned a Mitsubishi so I can not speak to them. The B2.6i would hold its own with the 3.0 V6 from Nissan and Toyota in those day.
Had a 1986 B2000, the first year of the generation. Great truck. Horrible rust problem starter after 3 years. Horrible snow traction. With a quarter inch of snow, it would slide off the road. Horrible tire ware. Bought 2 tires every 10,000 miles. I loved it and would buy another if I can find one.
Very nice, my dream truck if I could find 5-speed B2600i in perfect condition !!! Had Mazda been earlier with fuel-injected B2600i instead of the carbureted, underpowered B2200, this would've been a roaring success; Mazda was super-innovative with its Cab Plus design, but didn't have enough hp with the B2000 and B2200 engines. I drive a very nice 2WD 5-speed 1988 B2200 Cab Plus (since 1994) to which I've added that same 3-spoke steering wheel, the between-seat console (even made a cupholder insert for it), 15" 4WD B2600i wheels, aftermarket Weber carburetor, and bubble hood. Mine is still R-12, Arizona, no rust; my 2004 4-cylinder, 5-speed Frontier with 143hp serves as my B2600i substitute.
My sister and I bought 1989 SE-5 4wd Cab Plus trucks the same day at the same dealer. I LOVED that truck...only wish I had sprung for the dealer installed A/C. I was young and thought "Nah...I don't need that." Yea...big mistake!
Bought my 91' Mazda B2600i, 4X2, regular cab. And to boot, I brought it to Germany and it spent three years on the Autobahn. Due to the lower Hight, weight, and fuel injection, it was unusually fast. Generally could keep about 115 m.p.h. with A/C on. For hours at a time. A bit surreal now.
I had a 1993 b2600i the last year it was made. Loved that truck wish I still had it. Mine had a diff locker from factory had a bottom on the dash. I also put 33inch tires on it.
I owned a 1987 B2600 that I bought new that year. It cost $12,500. It lasted me a mere 165,000 miles. Rust ate it up. It spent two years in the mountains of NC, then four years in Rochester, NY. I had to twice replace the clutch, one of the rear suspension leaf springs broke and the head gasket went bad. The Mitsubishi carbureted engine was wayyy underwhelming and underpowered. But ultimately rust ate holes in the bed and the rear bumper was destroyed by road salt.
I would take that Mazda b-2600 any day over anything new today or for that matter made since 2010 forward. This is also what is needed today and no the Ford "over-priced/over rated" Maverick as one comparison example today is not even close.... K.I.S.S. Those japanese mini-trucks always kinda confused me.... It seems like all of them, were trying to be a rebadged Toyota Hilux... They were all pretty much the same car... And I understand that each branded mt has its own fan club, but essentially those are all the same vehicle with small changes... Those Mazda B series were so out of place everywhere they were sold... Even in my Middle Eastern neck of the woods... For some weird reason here, the Mitsubishi L200 (the MightyMax for you Americans) dominated the market of lpts for nearly 4 years before Toyota and Isuzu caugt up... Later, Nissan joined the party with their Winner lpt, but it wasn't too successful here... Also we had some weirder lpts here like the Peugeot 404 and the 504 + Fiat Fiorino with no back shell and some more weird creations from Europe mostly...
@@bldontmatter5319 Yes, im from Israel. Our car market is kinda bonkers... In the mid 80s-mid 00s it consisted mostly out of Japanese and Euro cars... Every few years, another manufacturer would take the lead. Though we mostly got rather crappy trim levels here and bad engine choices... Subaru, Honda and Mitsubishi dominated here for a while along with Renault. From around the end of 90s to mid 10s Mazda dominated... Today its a mish-mash of boring korean fleet cars with a big boom of Chinese electric cars...
Dangerously slow is 0-60 in the 20 second range, where you have to plan every move and gear shift. This is about 12 seconds if I recall. 90% of cars in the world do it slower than that, despite what you Americans think. This is a modest vehicle in powertain.
@@bldontmatter5319 While this may be average in a country where 1L diesel hatchbacks and 2L diesel pickups are common, in the US it's uncomfortably slow. When you have to pull out onto a street or merge onto a highway in a hurry, this is a liability. Here, our family cars can do 0-60 in 6 seconds.

Always thought these trucks were cool when they came out in 87 with the 4x4
Nissan 720 ST was first cab & a half in South Africa 1985 I taught it was Nissan Stanza bakkie but Datsun
Stanza was in South Africa before 1983 Nissan Stanza Nissan Fairlady elsewhere .
Identical to Mazda RX-7 GSL .
The man who owned that is definitely a Aussie no merican running round wit just inxs, icehouse n midnight oil on mf cassette
thats a beautiful mazda
Old Nissan before Hardbody was the first cab & a half in South Africa 1992 the first double cab bakkies in South Africa .
It’s not even like you see extended cab trucks anymore. It’s all crewcabs for people preserving their egos. Shame this era of funny extended cab names is long gone

Mazda has gotten better (more reliable) since Ford no longer owns them. Toyota now has a 5.1% ownership in Mazda
back in the days people used trucks just like this one used them to sell fish
You are Israeli? It's interesting to hear you got cars from Japan. I think that would be an extreme hassle to bring them there.
From around the
end of 90s to mid 10s Mazda dominated... Today its a mish-mash of boring korean fleet cars with a big boom of Chinese electric cars...

manual transmission is work i leave work at work i like put it in d and go doesn't get any better.
This car is dangerously slow
@@bldontmatter5319 most cars the US got a 0-60 time in like 6-7 seconds this needs arround 14-15
I have a 92 b2600I and I can assure you its not dangerously slow. Having 4.30 gears it accelerates pretty good.
pickup trucks with manual transmissions🤮🤒🤕😥👿
That's how it used to be. You used to have to actually drive instead of doing nothing, and it was way more fun
Pickup trucks with manual transmissions are real trucks that can do real work and are more fun. I finished your sentence for you.
