    Here is the detailed story
Hiranyakasipu was the brother of Hiranyaksha, the demon who was killed by Vishnu's 3rd Avatar. He wanted to avenge his brother's death. He did great penance and asked the God Brahma (the Creator) for immortality but it was denied. Brahma said he may ask for restriction of the ways of his death instead. Hiranyakashipu cunningly asked for a boon that he may not be killed :
1.Either by a man or an Animal or God or Demon etc
    2. He may not be killed inside or outside the house.
    3. He may not be killed at daytime or at night.
    4. He may not be killed using a live(living) object or a dead(non-living) object.
    5. He may not be killed on the ground or in the sky.
When he was doing penance his pregnant wife was told the stories of Lord Vishnu because of which his son, Prahlad became an ardent devotee of Vishnu.
Coming back from penance he created a havoc around the world and declared himself as God and asked everyone to worship him. Those who denied were killed. But his son always chanted the name of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu tried his best to persuade his son but he failed. Then he decided to kill his own son. He used many ways but Vishnu saved him every time. Then he ordered his sister Holika to kill his son. Holika had a magic cloak which does not catch fire. So he wore it and took Prahlad in her lap and sat on a pyre. But due to Prahlad's devotion he was unhurt. As a punishment for Holika the magic cloak couldn't protect Holika and she burnt to ashes (Every year 'Holika Dahan' - The burning of Holika is performed. The next day is celebrated as 'Holi' - The festival of Colors).
After his sister's death, Hiranyakashipu was very angry and asked Prahlad where his Vishnu was for which Prahlad replied Vishnu is everywhere. Even in this pillar.
Hearing this the angry Hiranyakashipu broke the pillar from which 'Narasimha' emerged. After battling and defeating Hiranyakashipu he took him to the threshold of the entrance of the house and put him on his lap and tore his stomach to kill him.
    1. Narasimha is an amalgamation of Man and Lion - Not a man and not an animal.
    2. He was killed on the threshold of the entrance - Neither inside nor outside.
    3. He killed him at Evening - Not daytime or night time.
    4. He killed him with his claws - It's living since it grows but its tip is a dead part. So, neither living nor non-living.
    5. He was killed on the lap of Narasimha - Not on the ground nor in the sky.

Ravana is said to have 20 hands and 20 legs. As stated in the original comment, this is not to be taken literally. He had the power equivalent to that many people in his time. Also, Ravana abducting Sita means that no matter how powerful or clever you are, you will make atleast one mistake in your life. That one mistake may cost you your life (not literally) so try to fix any mistake you make.

    Here goes a story-
    Vasu asked.
    "Mom,
    I am a genetic scientist.
I am working in the US on the evolution of man.
    Theory of evolution. Charles Darwin,
    have you heard of him?"
His Mother sat next to him
    smiled and said,
    "I know about Darwin, Vasu.
But Have you heard of Dash-avatar (10 avatars, dash means 10)?
    The ten avatars of Vishnu?"
    Vasu replied yes.
    "Ok!
Then let me tell you what you and
    your Darwin don't know.
    Listen carefully-
The first avatar was the Matsya avatar,
it means the fish. That is because life began in the water. Is that not right?"
Vasu began to listen with a little more attention.
    She continued,
    "Then came the Kurma Avatar,
which means the tortoise, because life moved from the
water to the land. The amphibian!
So the Tortoise denoted the evolution from sea to land.
Third avatar was Varaha, the wild boar,
which meant the wild animals with not much intellect,
you call them the Dinosaurs, correct?"
    Vasu nodded wide eyed.
    "The fourth avatar was Narasimha,
half man and half animal, the evolution from wild
    animals to intelligent beings.
Fifth, the Vaman avatar, the midget or dwarf,
who could grow really tall. Do you know why that is?
Because, there were two kinds of humans, Homo
Erectus and Homo Sapiens and Homo Sapiens won
    that battle."
Vasu could see that his Mother was in full flow and he
    was stupefied.
    "The Sixth avatar was Parshuram,
the man who wielded the axe, the man who was a cave
and forest dweller. Angry, and not social.
    The seventh avatar was Ram,
the first rational thinking social being, who practised
and laid out the laws of society and the basis of human
    relationships.
The Eighth avatar was Krishna, the statesman, the politician, the diplomat, the
Ambassador, the sutile interpreter, the lover who
played the game of society and taught how to live and
thrive in the adhaarmic social structure.
    The Ninth avatar was Buddha,
who found enlightenment under Bodhi tree in Gaya.
    And finally, my boy,
    will come Kalki, Tenth Avatar,
the man you are working on.
The man who will be genetically supreme."
Vasu looked at his Mother speechless.
"This is amazing Mom, how did you..... ?
    This makes sense!"
She said, "Yes it does, son!
We Indians knew some amazing things,
but just didn't know how to pass it on scientifically.
So we made them into mythological stories.
Mythology creates faith and makes man sensible.
It is just the way you look at it -
    Religious or Scientific. Your call."

@@ripsanskrit3609 Similarly we have millions of evidence which is spread all across our country across all the states and in the entire asian subcontinent across countries, some parts of Europe and north america as well. Recently in Nepal, an idol of Lord Shiva, inscriptions, pottery found during an excavation. Post carbon dating the team were stunned to know that all these date back to atleast ten thousand years old which matches with our scriptures timelines. Same with Lord Krishna's lost city beneath the sea. Archeological Survey of India team found Lord Krishnas entire mystical Dwarka city under water near the Indian western coastal region. Many utensils, pillars, inscriptions and sculptures also found which dates back to 5000 BC. As per our holy scripture Ramayana, The man made bridge between India and Srilanka is built by Lord Ram called Ram Setu not Adams bridge, even we found rocks with Lord Rams name on it. And Lord Ram and Demon king Raavan's palace is also still situated in India and Srilanka and it is maintained till date as an evidence. As per our scriptures, Several tunnels also still present in Sri lanka which were constructed by demon king. The place of demon king was called as Lanka at that period thats how the Sri Lanka is named. You will get tonnes of evidence on Sun god, other prominent gods and goddesses of Hinduism. Even westerners who come to India and explored it. They believe in it because they have seen evidences of each and every event mentioned in all our holy scriptures like vedas, puranas, ramayana, bhagwat geeta. You know nothing, didnt see it, realised it, never felt these energies and experiences. Then how come you judge. That shows your ignorance.

So when Hiranyakashyap's reign and ego was at peak he mocked Vishnu so he appeared in his Narshimha's form which was kinda neither fully a Human nor an Animal and he appeared on such a time that it can't be considered Day or Night or Evening, true timing still remains mystery and thus he killed him by tearing apart his Chest, the story also had many more elements but this is enough for a summary!!

In Sanatan Dharm there are 4 Yugas in following chronology:
    1) Satyug: In satyug Dharm stands on 4 legs (pillars) namely - Tapa (austerity, meditation), Shauch (cleanliness), Daya (mercy) and Satya (Truth). Satyug is longest and has 4 avatars (incarnation) of Bhagwan VISHNU - Matsya (Fish), Kurma (Turtle), Varaha (Boar), Nar-Simha (Nar means Man and Simha means Lion)
    2) Treta (collection of three) Yuga: In Treta Yug Dharma stands on 3 legs - Shauch (cleanliness), Daya (mercy) and Satya (Truth) . So 1 leg disappears as moral decay (Adharma) sets in. It is shorter than Satyug and has 3 Avatars of Bhagwan VISHNU - Vaman (Brahmin), Parushram and Shri Ram.
    3) Dwapar (collection of 2) Yuga: Dharma loses one more leg (pillar) as Adharm (moral decay) balances Dharma. Two legs are Daya (mercy) and Satya (Truth). It is shorter than Treta Yug and has 2 Avatars of Bhagwan Vishnu - Shri Krishna and Bhagwan Buddha (not to be confused with Buddha of Buddhism)
    4) Kali-Yuga: Only Satya (Truth) is left as society is in firm grip of Adharma. It is the shortest of 4 Yugas and has 1 Avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu - Kalki Avatar.

      1) Satyug: people use to speak only truth, the day people started lying, dharm lost its one leg - satya.
      2) Treta: People use to go jungles for meditation, the day everyone migrated to big cities and stopped meditation, dharma lost its another pillar - Tapa
      3) Dwapar: during this period Mahabharat took place and millions of people died, dharma lost its 3rd pillar - Daya (mercy)
      4) Kalyug: only daan (donation) is left, the day people stop donating dharm will disappear and again lord Vishnu will incarnate as kalki the 10th and final avatar and he will finish all the injustice and restore dharm again, by this one yug cycle will be complete and satyug will start again

And if you look at the sequence, you will observe that it follows the theory of evolution.
    1. Matsya (Fish)
Representation: Represents the first life forms that appeared in water, symbolizing the aquatic origin of life. Fish are among the earliest vertebrates in evolutionary history.
    2. Kurma (Turtle)
Representation: Symbolizes the transition of life from water to land. Amphibians, like turtles, represent the next stage in evolution, where creatures could live both in water and on land.
    3. Varaha (Boar)
Representation: Represents the evolution of mammals, particularly land-dwelling creatures. The boar, as a strong terrestrial animal, marks the development of life forms fully adapted to life on land.
    4. Narasimha (Half-Man, Half-Lion)
Representation: Symbolizes the transition from animal to human forms, representing the evolution of early hominids with both animalistic and human traits.
    5. Vamana (Dwarf)
Representation: Represents the early stages of human evolution, where humans were physically small and intellectually developing. It symbolizes the initial stages of human civilization.
    6. Parashurama (Warrior with an Axe)
Representation: Symbolizes the development of humans as warriors and the rise of early civilizations, reflecting the stage in human evolution where tool and weapon use became prevalent.
    7. Rama (Prince and King of Ayodhya)
Representation: Represents the development of fully evolved human society with governance, law, ethics, and morality, signifying the rise of advanced human civilizations.
    8. Krishna (Divine Statesman and Philosopher)
Representation: Represents the evolution of human consciousness, intellect, and spirituality, symbolizing the philosophical and cultural advancements of human civilization.
    9. Balrama (Rama with a Plow)
Representation: Represents the mastery of humans on flora and fauna with evolution of agriculture.
    10. Kalki (The Future Warrior)
Representation: Represents the future of humanity and the cyclical nature of time, symbolizing the end of the current age (Kali Yuga) and the renewal of the world, reflecting the concept of evolution as an ongoing process.

The word Vishnu came from the word element 'Vish' which means mixed /dissolved/engrained /Prevail . So Vishnu is Prevailing in everything, even what you are.
Also For The word Venom , Vish is used because of its dissolving nature.
Telling someone the meaning of Vishnu can explain that Hinduism isnt Polytheism but Panentheism or Moanism .
This same idea of God exists in Sikhism which is called Waheguru(God).
Also the Term Waheguru is used around 18 times in Guru granth saheb (Sikh book).
But around 4000 times god is refered as Krishna , Ram , Hari (Vishnu) .

On Ramayana and your question on archaeological evidences - the story of Rama is intertwined not only with the cultures of the people of the Indian subcontinent but also throughout south east asia - you go to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia (perhaps even Japan and China have their own versions) and you will still find local versions of the story being performed/preserved. Ramayana is believed to be 7000 years old and as a story plays out across the Indian subcontinent (with places throughout the vast sub continent referenced) and the demon king Ravana carries Rama’s wife Sita all the way from India to Lanka (present day Sri Lanka). Rama crossed the waters between India and Lanka at Rameshwaram where recent satellite imagery has shown an actual underground bridge/structure called now the Adams bridge (the structure supposedly 7000 years old!).

He is not king of patal lok he is king of sutal lok and patal lok isn't hell narak is hell and patal lok is kind of underworld where snake people live and patal lok is described to be more beautiful than swarg lok (place like heaven not actual heaven). Where all elemental god like indar agni vayu etc lives.

      Don't mix rubbish things.
Patal Loka is not Hell and Lucifer story is different, that being is different. Lucifer is shown as pure evil, Raja Bali is still good and will be next Indra in upcoming Manvantar.

An interesting fact that you would love is, Hiranyakashipu got a boon from Lord Bhrama, that stated, "he can’t be killed at day or night, nor inside or outside, nor by man or animal, nor by a curse or a weapon, nor in the sky or on the ground. Hence making him invincible.
But, when Lord Narsimha appeared, he majestically debunked the boon.
He took Hiranyakashipu at the palace door (so he’s neither inside nor outside) he sat and placed him on his lap (so the demon was not in the air nor on the ground) he used his claws to tear open his chest and used his fangs to kill him (so he was not killed by a curse nor a weapon) and since Narsimha was part man and part animal, he was neither fully man nor animal hence, Lord Vishnu debunked (I hope I am using this word correctly, my English isn’t that good but I think debunking means something something hahaha) the boon granted by Lord Brahma to Hiranyakashipu !

Yep sorry I forget to mention, when Narsimha killed the demon it was at dawn…. SO IT WAS NEITHER DAY NOR NIGHT !!
