Struggling to make restaurant quality grilled calamari? Don't struggle any more! Follow my fool proof method of creating mouth watering grilled calamari.
People, just stop. Everyone is not American or European, get over yourselves. In Australia electric burners = cooktop, and gas burners = grill. The recipe itself is quite good, give it a try you won’t be disappointed. I made it as per the video, and it was fabulous. EVERYONE LOVED IT. Thank you, Chef.
Hello, here in Portugal we make a stew with them. We cut the squid in large "wrings" and stew them with onion, garlic, olive oil, tomato passatta or crushed tomatoes, diced carrots and diced potatoes (salt and pepper and sweet paprika to flavour). It is usually done in a pressure cooker to ensure very tender squid or cuttlefish (sepia in spanish). Sometimes we stew the squid on their own and serve with a side-dish of mashed potatoes, or just plain boiled potatoes. Rosa
I grew up calling a broiler a grill. Technically, grilling is direct heat underneath, like a flat top for cooking burgers in a professional kitchen. What he is doing is basically the same. ie, He didn't add the squid to hot oil, which would be frying.
All in all a decent recipe. The warning about non stick pans is valid, but doesn't need to be repeated by every second commentator. If our chef here had simply put the calamari on skewers and grilled them over charcoal it would silence all the critique. So maybe a remake of the video actually using a grill is called for?
Again, Hats off, Chef. I followed recipe as closely as I could for not having a gas range and frying in a heavy leCruset frying pan, hot, with olive oil. Could not achieve your sear and lovely finish, but man it was no failure. Great spice, loved it anyway. Mon Dieu, Cajun spice!
I also tried ten's of recipes. Found this video yesterday and bought some calamari today to try this way. I suggest marinate the calamari for like 30min to 1hr in kiwi fruit before cooking. It will make them tender and soft...anyway I'll see how they turn up
I don't have any non-stick pans. I'm going to try this with a stainless steel pan. I do a similar recipe with chicken thighs and different spices with my stainless steel pan. I add the butter and garlic at the end for a nice sauce. I'm excited to try this. Thank you!

Tell me about your high quality non stick pan, brand, and where you acquired it. I am sadly let down by what I considered good products, even when taking great care using non stick cutlery to cook with, and careful washing techniques, and not excessive heat . Have found they just do not last.
Anyone who cares about their non-stick pans shouldn't cook like this. Never put a non-stick pan on high head empty, and never scrape your non-stick pan with a metal spoon!
😅 LOL! IN his defense....those tongs have plastic tips if that is what you thought???? I bought what appears to be exact same ones at the dollar store😊. The spoon appears to be wood also. But you are right.... this guy is clueless too. He should be using a cast iron pan. I guess he missed Paul Pruddhome's blackened redfish recipe from 35+ years ago and that cooking technique. Cast iron is ideal for this recipe which is BS by the way and not very special. Millions of people combine EVOO and herbs...and you can add lemon to the marinade. You are correct high heat will damage non stick, I have a Tfal still going strong after 8 years. In their owners manual they say medium heat to low high heat only and that highest heat will ruin the pan. They are NOT meant for searing anything (steak etc) they are only for NON stick cooking needs (scrambled eggs, flaky white fish etc). Guy needs to get some measuring spoons.....he was adding way more that a table spoon for everything. Ok recipe.....nothing special....LOL @ World's Best 😂
Who is the "we" you keep referring to?? Also, you're going to ruin your nonstick pan if you keep on scraping it with a metal spoon (13:27). You already have a wooden spatula... use it!! Anyway, the recipe sounds delish and I'll be giving it a try. Cheers 😜
guy cant even keep the pan centered on the stove...... lol FAILLL what a joke....u should scrape that metal pan more with the metal spoon liitle bit harder.....

The video says grilled calamari but you’re pan frying them 😂

Thank you for your comment. In my country we call this grilled or pan grilled.
Turned out great! thanks!

Heard a South African accent; I knew my man won’t be shy on the seasoning. Lekker man 😋

Fantastic! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Brilliant! Lekker Saffer approach! 😂

I stayed because you seasoned them well. Thanks
I love the recipe
I’ve done it twice now and it’s my “favourites” folder
By far the best recipe in my opinion
It’s quick and delicious
All the best!
Thank you, and enjoy!!
The calamari looks yummy 😋 thank you Sir for sharing your lovely recipe .
It's a great pleasure 😊
Wow, thank you so much.
I will use this recipe for next week. Can't wait.
Would've been nice to see it close up but nice way to cook squid. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing.
That feeling when you see those calamari at Woolworths and don't know how to cook it ;) Thanks
Wow!! Will try this.. thank you 🙏

You can buy them from the local store ....😅
How it turned out!
be careful when using non-stick. you're not supposed to heat them past medium. i think cast iron would be a better choice
Cast iron is a terrible choice for this.
Dont used metal spoon in the non stick pan
I love that sound of metal spoon scraping layer of teflon right into cancerogenous sauce :)
hi, great job and video,I dont get the name of that condiment sauce "kaygen", can somebody spell it for me.Thanks

Lekker
I thought this was going to be a "grilled" calamari recipe. Then I see the frying pan being used. What happened to the grilling?
welcome to the flaws of the english language
In my country we call this grilled. On a flat top or pan.
@@theculturecook8682I understand. Cultural differences 😂
After watching the entire video, I still have no idea what it looks like! That’s not how you make a food video!
i thought this was supposed to be grilled
Tell me about your high quality non stick pan, brand, and where you acquired it. I am sadly let down by what I considered good products, even when taking great care using non stick cutlery to cook with, and careful washing techniques, and not excessive heat
. Have found they just do not last.
I love Woll pans. They last forever.
You're using a teaspoon to measure out tablespoons of ingredients when the tablespoon is right there next to the teaspoon
This is not grilled calamari but fried calamari. What a waste of time.
Some helpful tips but a painfully slow presentation that could have been delivered with more clarity in 5 mins
The poor mans food.
Looks pretty good, but is far from the only way to cook calamari.
I’m still waiting for the grilling portion of these cooking instructions🤔
Same here

Please don’t use any non stick pans.
This recipe isn’t for grilled calamari it is fried calamari. Sorry.
I’m sorry, but where’s the grill?

Zoom in next time
Grossly overcooked
Not grilled
WTF

Actually, he's already talking quite slow. If it's still too fast for you, just change the playback speed to below 1,0x.

"Grilled" calamari?? Did I miss something?
Grilling with a pan? LOL.
