Great video. I'm a mechanic with a good engineering background but was unaware how the drive worked. Now it all makes sense!! Feel happy now to strip and assemble without any scary moments. Many thanks for taking the time to film.
The most technical intake configuration hands down. Hate working on these personally. Gasket, spacer, gasket, carb, gasket, cover, gasket, filter... oh, did I mention gasket? But, the easiest recoils to pull 👍
I found this as I am going to get the carb off my HRX 537 tomorrow and give it a clean. After 9 years and about 1,000 miles behind the the thing it’s now running a bit rich so I thought it about time to do a carb strip down and clean- I do oil, filter etc regularly but this will be my first go at the carb and this video is really useful. I’ll probably have it on call as I’m working! Thank you.
If I wasn't a mower mechanic and I lived in the UK I'd bring my mowers to you for repairs and maintenance and I hope people there realize just how awesome you are and bring you business. Honda in America is always a good gamble because they sell. Nice shot of the top of your head when you mounted the carburetor. Keep up the good work Mick.
Looks like when he said "serviced the air filter" that he tried to wash it. Many old timers wash paper filters in soap and water!! One of my customers washed a quantum filter for 20 years! it ran so rich it always belched black smoke! He thought I rebuilt the engine when I first changed the air filter and there was no smoke or smell. He said his wife was happy as he didn't smell like fumes anymore when he cut the grass! Cheers mate!
Mick, get two short pieces of wood dowels and put them in the bolt holes. Stack all the gasket and parts, then pull out dowels one at at time while applying pressure, and insert the carb bolts. Works great. Trust me. I’ve had a couple of Honda carbs, I just had to replace, but over here, they are less than $25.00. Jim
Fabulous job of taking a hunter and making it like new again. That carb installation was a bummer. I had much difficulty not fixing my eyes on that silver roll of I think insulation at the side of the mower. It looked like a truck muffler but I think it was insulation. I am easily distrac - did you see those birds fly over? Great job. Love that Riley Boy. Stay safe.
@@themowerman Actually I'm ashamed to admit the little nipper has been lacking his due lately in my thoughts. After all, he's the reason we're all here on your channel....
Hi Mick, looks like you’ve more or less sorted that one out, I’ve worked on these a lot as we always run one for work. The drive does sound a bit dry, I find a spot of grease on the cog usually solves that. Good video🙂👍
Hey Mick , my sp555v has the same engine on it , I’m sure they long bolts are m4-6 , I took 2 similar bolts out my bolt organiser box cut the heads off ( added slots for plain screwdriver and used them for alignment for the block head heat shield carb etc 👍 hope this helps bud
Here in the states that looks identical to the HRX217 Versamow! Wonder why across the pond it’s numbered differently? Got some googling to do! Great job as always! 🤙🏻🇺🇸🦅🔧
LOL! I use drift pins or dowels to align all the carb parts and gaskets for assembly and still it takes me 2-3 tries before I’m satisfied. You aced it - or was that through video edit? ;-). I’m sure this will go for quite a few quid.
Honda lawnmower engines are reliable. However, I've never been impressed with any lawnmower that is 100% Honda design - too many plastic components, difficult maintenance access, self propelled drive problems, etc. In my view, Honda has failed to impress with a reputation for quality in its lawnmower range and other power garden equipment, which is a pity from a great company like Honda.

Ahhh, the Bruce Pender patented carb cleaning pan!!! Brilliant! You might want to dirty it up a bit more though for effect!

Hi great video! Which is the better mower, stilh RM 756 or the Honda hrx537 for reliability?
It's a wide question.. I would go to the Honda side
@@themowerman
Thanks for replying, I think I might just do that, as the weight is a factor also.
Where do you advertise your mowers
eBay
Nice work bud 👍
Just glew all the gaskets together it work well
Awesome job on a cracking machine 👍 Tam.
Ta brother
Strangely I've just purchased the same bib and brace trousers on Amazon.
Your turning in to Mick's mowers over night lol

Yes...
Good work mick mate 👍

Great job again mick as usual that was one fiddly job nice mower great to see riley boy again 👍👍👍👍
Yeah mate was fiddly.

Need to tighten the end of the governor arm spring. Slightly too slow.
No it's just a carb adjustment
