I was always a bit weary of touching my 476 but after watching that its very similar to other mowers services . So that's another one of my mowers the service shop has lost, cheers Mick top job.
Great service on that mower. The good thing for me was that bolt coming out of the coil. Never seen that happen before. So now I know how to fix that as well. Thanks for the video. Great job.
Great video - really helped me do my own service. I just had the rear drive stop working so took it in for repair and they told me a pin had snapped in the drive mechanism which should be ‘lubricated as part of normal maintenance’? Had no idea and mower is 7 years old. If any chance on future video include a how to on that would be maintain that mechanism great!
Hi Mick, i have a honda hrx 426, when i lift the back end and press the drive handle, the roller spins slightly but when i drop the machine to the ground and hold the drive lever, the machine dont move at all? Any idea what to check
Hey Mick thanks for this mate. Can I ask when you grind sharpen the blade do you sharpen just one side or both front and back ? I assume use the Nail in the wall to balance it? Cheers Adam
Thabks for replying. Just bought a second hand one and fancied giving "servicing it myself" a try. Your videos are so informative, I think I could, following it on vid.
Having a problem with Coleman 1850 generator. Feel like popping over to have a look at it?? hahaha! Just one more thing on my list! Great video, Brother! Hello to the Mrs. and Riley Boy!
Here's a question Mick. If you can actually tolerate the mess /spillage, is there anything to stop you pulling the start cord till compression is felt and emptying the oil by tipping the mower on its side?
Nothing wrong with tipping it up mate to remove the oil. I used to all the time. But with the amount of mowers I do it's easier to collect it in the pump and disposal is easier..
Another great video Mick. Is it hot enough in your shed? I know I'm melting in mine! Got a mower in that hit something hard. I've replaced the flywheel key, checked the ignition coil with multimeter and it still wont start. Its had a replacement blade boss and it has one key way on the blade boss. It's a semi circle shaped for what its worth. I've even drained the old fuel and cleaned the carb too just in case. It's a briggs classic 35. Still no joy. What else should I check?
Micks Mowers definitely got compression as it almost broke my forearm earlier such was the kickback. The new flywheel key has sorted that. The dead’s mans switch wasn’t clearing fully so I shortened the cable as it had stretched but I’m still not sure. Ignition coil tested fine on the multimeter. It actually fired momentarily earlier but then cut out.
@@jeffjeffjeff2 yeah check the switch again.. and put some carb spray down the head. Replace the plug and pull the cord.. if it starts it must be a fuel problem
I have the Honda hrx426 which is very similar to this one and is getting on for 15 years old, but recently noticed the mower when engaging the blade struggles and the engine often stalls completely. What does this mean is wrong? Is it the carb or worn piston rings?
@@themowerman I didn't think of that but worth a try! So doesn't sound like it's to do with the carb? I do use Aspen fuel and runs fine when not under load.
Good morning I am in the U.s ,Houston Tx to be more specific never seen a mower like that is that only in your country? Can I get one in the states? So is a roller vs wheels better?
Hello buddy we have a property maintenance company and will be adding a domestic grass cutting service and just wondering what mover you would recommend. I’ve been looking at second hand Honda movers also looked at a new cobra self propelled. Any thoughts?
Mick...........I'm a fairly new subscriber and I have the same mower except it doesn't have the roller. First class instructional video. One question though........mine fires up fine but according to my engine tach, the tick over is about 400 rpm below where it needs to be. The machine is brand new so I'm just wondering whether to take it back or let it loosen up a bit.....or is there an easy way to increase the idle speed? Cheers mate..........first class! Dave
If its brand new it should run as per specification so I would say take it back. It could be the throttle cable is out of adjustment. You could try and re set the cable..
Where you based mate also I have a still throttle level seems to run on one speed and self drive don't work paid 80 for it cuts nice tho am in East London
Hello from Texas again. It looks like things are different in the UK because all the Honda and Honda clones I've seen in stores and worked on all requires 10w30 motor oil and I've never ever seen a mower with front wheels and a rear roller. I don't know if "roller" is what it's called but I've never seen that before. Would you mind making a video explaining it or even better replacing it? Awesome video! 👍🏼
@@themowerman that's what I was thinking because I know with wheels there's very evident lines in the grass and I was thinking the roller just evens everything out.
Yahhh...know... Don't ask me why...I always used vise grips to remove the stuck recoil bolt. Never dawned on me to ever use a socket. Seems more like the human way! I HAVE NEVER seen honda blades with the screen in them. Across the pond we don't have those! I guess those are mulching blades?
Morning popet.. the blade is not a mulching one due to the lift plate and as far as I know this model does not come with a plug.. hope your and your lovely wife are doing ok..

Nice repair mick! I love working on honda mowers. Quality product in my opinion. Roger
Great service again mick another happy customer 👍👍👍👍
Now it runs exactly as it should. Nice job, Mick. Definitely big money there.
Hi mick and riley boy nice job on service
Great stuff, but what about setting the valve gaps?
Yeah I hear ya . The mower was running fine so didn't need to look into that
Any videos how to remove gearbox from a Honda 426 Mick? Can’t get it out with the adjuster bracket
@@blackbird1able no mate I don't think so
@@themowerman I managed it in the end what a pig, had to leaver the belt adjuster bracket down to get the gearbox shaft out then slid the bracket out.
