Finally an actual review! Too many videos that say they are "reviews" but just list specs, a review should include the rider's opinion on the actual riding part of the bike
I just recently bought an Allez Sprint disc frame set Sagan edition. This video made me feel like I definitely made the right choice. Can't wait to build it up!
I have searched forever for this bike, finally found it yesterday! (Probably the last size 54 on earth) It is coming all the way from Sweden! Can’t wait!
I've been looking for a second Allez frame since I'm still running rim brakes. Waiting and waiting for the next batch of colours to drop here in Oz. I hope they're going to continue to make this frame.
I reckon they will, but no idea how long you'll be waiting. It's scarcity all round with anything new at the moment sadly. I could practically sell my Allez for what I paid for it! Such is the direness of our situation. I hope one shows up soon for you.
Haha! While I've definitely been guilty of that before (actually won a sprint finish from the hoods in a crit one time, never living that down!) my get out of jail free card in this is hard to tell on the video: I was ascending at the time ;)
Well, it's hard to say without riding the new one personally, but I'd definitely like one haha. Guessing it's the difference between the last gen Venge and the sl7, with the new Sprint being more all around racer than the stiffness beast the original sprint was. Value is another thing entirely. I'd personally buy one purely as an aluminium/practicality guy, but then I won't be upgrading due in large part to the inflation of prices all around. I can currently sell my Allez for what I paid for it...
Thanks bro! I see you're getting out a bit more on your Allez of late too. You were pretty quick in T-bar, would be nice to bump into you at a crit in future 😉
Thanks for this I review. I currently have a 2012 Cannondale cadd 10 and want to upgrade to a disc bike . Now that I’ve thought about it I’m going to check Canyon and Fezzari out as well.
Fair review. Have been riding the rim version with Mavic Carbon rims, and its very quick bike, faster than my carbon steeds. My suggestion , get a great set of Disc Hubs (ie . White industries), get some carbon rims and build it out, run tubeless like schwalbe pro one 25's (they actually come out to be more 28), you will notice significant difference.
That would be ideal, although I just snapped up a used set of Fulcrum Racing Quattro Carbon DB rims for a good price, so I'll be running those on it. First ride on them will be tomorrow, and whilst they're not the lightest option they should be stiffer/smoother, SO KEEN to see how it feels on some proper wheels.
Thanks for the review! The specs list the bottom bracket as praxis 6806 bearings - i think this is a pressfit. Should this concern me enough to go for the Tarmac with threaded bottom bracket instead?
Depends how fussy you are 🤔 the Allez as reviewed has the older style expanding BB, and I gotta tell you, it's a battle to stop the squeak. I've resigned to the fact it makes noise above about 320watts, even though I used some Loctite to try shut it up. The instructions for the BB even state you're supposed to remove it every so often to re-grease/anti-sieze it. It's a dog. The praxis Shimano conversion on the caad on the other hand: flawless.
@@Millistration I am sooo annoyed with the squeaking bottom bracket on this one. What ever I have done so far did not work, I just couldn’t get rid of it
@@wannabcyclist right there with you. I've tried everything except replacing the bb. I'm thinking of forking for the newer style praxis bb with an expanding nylon ring and seeing if that works. Part of me thinks I could also use some spacers on the crank spindle. Very frustrating though, and all Praxis did when I emailed was refer me to the local distributor. Useless!
@@Millistration I’ll get it serviced, I don’t think it will help in the long run though. Let me know if you go through with BB exchange and the result. I hope it solves the problem!
Hi there brother. I know this is a old video, but it's a great one. I'm riding a 2007 Bianchi 928L/ Dura -Ace myself. I used to race back then. I doing now long group rides and I'm also affiliated to a local team again. Depends on the Covid situation, we will be allowed to organize races and race again. I have test ride a Scott Foil from a friend of mine for like 1 month. I enjoyed the stiffness and quick response of the bike. But that's an expensive bike. I was looking for a same like aerodynamic, stiff and good bang for your buck bike. I've seen a lot of reviews about this bike, like others commented above. But man with this video I think you convinced me to go look for one. Do you recommend me to go for a new one or can I trust used and older makes( years like 2017 to 2019)? The CAAD 13 is also a good one but expensive
No reason not to trust an older one, the general design hasn't changed. A low mileage used one will no doubt be great. Just watch for the Praxis bottom bracket in those that came with them. The early expanding version can be annoyingly squeaky.
Very nice review. What are your thoughts for using this bike for sprint triathlons or a little longer bike rides? I was thinking about a CAAD12 (IF I CAN FIND ONE) or CAAD13 or even a SYNAPSE.....Let me know what you think.....Thanks in advance
If the rumours are true, I'd still pick a caad for longer stuff and the caad 13 at that. The Allez sprint is fine, but a caad is more comfy for anything longer than a 50km or so. I've done hundo's on the Allez and it's ok still, just gotta have your saddle game dialled.
@@Millistration Thank You Sir. So I have heard too. I should have picked up a CAAD12 but now I cannot find one to fit me. Not sure about the CAAD13 there mixed reviews on that one.
@@osint6372 Mixed reviews? I'm yet to see a negative one (I've read maybe 5 official ones?) but would be surprised if it was a dud. I do question how flexy it would be, not much can best the Allez in that department. My LBS just got the 13 in recently, so I'm planning to head down there and give one a go, and if they're willing, review it too :)
I wanted to get this bike for long distance rides (100+ miles)? Do you think this bike will be Good enough for those or should I opt for something with a less aggressive geometry? Thanks in advance!
I think it will be good enough, you can always use spacers... That said, unless you're regularly doing punchy accelerations, engage in spirited riding and want to save aero watts through position, there are far better options for an endurance bike. Better an endurance bike for the occasional sprint, than a sprint/race bike for consistently long rides, wouldn't you say? But yes, it is "good enough."
Which wheels would you recommend swapping with the ones that come stock on this bike? Also, which saddlebag do you use? I've had the hardest time finding one that will fit. Thanks!
Well given that aero > lightness, I'd be thinking a decent set of 50mm carbons with a 21mm internal rim bed width. As for saddlebags, I tried to fit a Topeak clip system unsuccessfully, so feel your pain. I just run some old no brand items with a Velcro on assembly. Specialized has there own bag system that would definitely fit though, so may pay to run with that 🤔
@@Millistration I just ordered the Lezyne Road Caddy-- it got generally great reviews, attaches only to the saddle rails, and seems to stay snug underneath the seat. If that doesn't work, I'll check out the Specialized bags, although, the reviews haven't been great on those...
If a new rider had the choice between the allez elite or the sprint comp what would you choose? I'm thinking of having a bike that can get me into the sport but also I won't have to upgrade for a long time.
Honestly I'd go the Sprint Comp, mostly because you'll frequently see $4k+ builds on sprint frames but I've never seen one on the current elite frameset, which should tell you of its competence. If you can swing the funds, the Disc is the way to go, mostly for the resale aspect too. The used prices for lower end non disc bikes and wheelsets has really taken a hit with many riders moving to disc bikes. I hope that helps.
I went with the sprint comp, I sorta knew I'd kick myself if I didn't. However I skipped the disc upgrade. . . thanks for the video. Greetings from usa. @@Millistration
I would go a 52cm if you're not a racer, or a 49cm if you want a potentially less comfortable but more race oriented/aero position (if you have to ask about frame size, you're probably in the 52cm camp). Stem length is very personal to your arm/torso length so not really something I can advise on. You really need to sit on the bike and feel out your position before making a decision on that.
