    Excellent review! I'm interested in the new 22 model comp. How does it compare to this 19 model? Is it still a good option at $3k?

    • @Millistration
      @Millistration 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it's hard to say without riding the new one personally, but I'd definitely like one haha. Guessing it's the difference between the last gen Venge and the sl7, with the new Sprint being more all around racer than the stiffness beast the original sprint was. Value is another thing entirely. I'd personally buy one purely as an aluminium/practicality guy, but then I won't be upgrading due in large part to the inflation of prices all around. I can currently sell my Allez for what I paid for it...

    Hi there brother. I know this is a old video, but it's a great one. I'm riding a 2007 Bianchi 928L/ Dura -Ace myself. I used to race back then. I doing now long group rides and I'm also affiliated to a local team again. Depends on the Covid situation, we will be allowed to organize races and race again. I have test ride a Scott Foil from a friend of mine for like 1 month. I enjoyed the stiffness and quick response of the bike. But that's an expensive bike. I was looking for a same like aerodynamic, stiff and good bang for your buck bike. I've seen a lot of reviews about this bike, like others commented above. But man with this video I think you convinced me to go look for one. Do you recommend me to go for a new one or can I trust used and older makes( years like 2017 to 2019)? The CAAD 13 is also a good one but expensive

    • @Millistration
      @Millistration 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No reason not to trust an older one, the general design hasn't changed. A low mileage used one will no doubt be great. Just watch for the Praxis bottom bracket in those that came with them. The early expanding version can be annoyingly squeaky.

    • @Millistration
      @Millistration 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well given that aero > lightness, I'd be thinking a decent set of 50mm carbons with a 21mm internal rim bed width. As for saddlebags, I tried to fit a Topeak clip system unsuccessfully, so feel your pain. I just run some old no brand items with a Velcro on assembly. Specialized has there own bag system that would definitely fit though, so may pay to run with that 🤔

    Great vid, I'm coming back to cycling after a few years and I'm considering this bike. However I won't be doing any races or whatsoever, I'm just looking for a great bike to go riding. As of right now I've been looking at some Canyon models (endurace and ultimate) and the Scott Addict line. Since my MTB is a Specialized I'm considering this one as well (2020 version) as it would be easy to get it from my dealer nearby where I got the MTB. I've compared the specs on all these bikes and they're all quite similar with the difference that the Specialized is a bit more expensive for the same worth. Money isn't a big issue so I don't mind paying more for the specialized if it's worth it. How do you think those bikes compare? On a more 'experience' level I mean, such as the comfort after the first 60km and the overall feel while riding.

    • @Millistration
      @Millistration 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly the Allez Sprint is a go fast bike, so not the first place I would go for an all rounder bike. Whilst it "can" fill that role, the geometry really is for an aggressive position, and is stiffer than what most cyclists will ever need. You'll be paying for advantages you may never use. I bought this bike with the full intention of crit racing, segment bombing and fast shop rides (races). It does that really well. For long cruisy buds rides of a Sunday morning, I still ride the CAAD10 8/10 times.

    Thanks for the review! The specs list the bottom bracket as praxis 6806 bearings - i think this is a pressfit. Should this concern me enough to go for the Tarmac with threaded bottom bracket instead?

    • @Millistration
      @Millistration 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how fussy you are 🤔 the Allez as reviewed has the older style expanding BB, and I gotta tell you, it's a battle to stop the squeak. I've resigned to the fact it makes noise above about 320watts, even though I used some Loctite to try shut it up. The instructions for the BB even state you're supposed to remove it every so often to re-grease/anti-sieze it. It's a dog. The praxis Shimano conversion on the caad on the other hand: flawless.

      @@wannabcyclist right there with you. I've tried everything except replacing the bb. I'm thinking of forking for the newer style praxis bb with an expanding nylon ring and seeing if that works. I think it will be good enough, you can always use spacers... That said, unless you're regularly doing punchy accelerations, engage in spirited riding and want to save aero watts through position, there are far better options for an endurance bike. Better an endurance bike for the occasional sprint, than a sprint/race bike for consistently long rides, wouldn't you say? But yes, it is "good enough."

      I would go a 52cm if you're not a racer, or a 49cm if you want a potentially less comfortable but more race oriented/aero position (if you have to ask about frame size, you're probably in the 52cm camp). Stem length is very personal to your arm/torso length so not really something I can advise on. You really need to sit on the bike and feel out your position before making a decision on that.

      @@Bungle2010 My bike came with the Axis brake calipers. I did a quick, short ride on them once before I swapped them out for 105 calipers. I'm still using the pads that came with the bike; I assume Axis pads. So far the pads are working out fine. I usually hit a max speed of 40mph on my descents. I can't imagine that Shimano or any other aftermarket pad will be much better. I mean, it's just rubber, right?

    I noticed that Specialized did some cost savings with the cranks. They are Shimano 105 on the 2018 rim brake bike, but the brakes are praxis there. A bit annoying that Specialized doesn't just go full 105 on everything. I know that outside of the USA, in 2017, they did.

      I actually felt the same when I first saw the Praxis items on it. They're not as pretty as the 105 cranks, but in testing (fairwheelbikes has a good crank write up) they were almost the stiffest cranks you could buy. A little heavy granted, but for crits where weight is less of an issue I'm actually pretty happy they came on the bike. I do get jealous of those shiny Shimano looks though...

    If a new rider had the choice between the allez elite or the sprint comp what would you choose? I'm thinking of having a bike that can get me into the sport but also I won't have to upgrade for a long time.

      Honestly I'd go the Sprint Comp, mostly because you'll frequently see $4k+ builds on sprint frames but I've never seen one on the current elite frameset, which should tell you of its competence. If you can swing the funds, the Disc is the way to go, mostly for the resale aspect too. The used prices for lower end non disc bikes and wheelsets has really taken a hit with many riders moving to disc bikes. I hope that helps.

      I went with the sprint comp, I sorta knew I'd kick myself if I didn't. However I skipped the disc upgrade. . . thanks for the video. Greetings from usa. @@Millistration

      @@piknick111 Still a great bike and now you get the cheaper options on used wheel upgrades, so that's a win.
