You need to invest in some lightweight water if you're going to carry 2 bottles and you haven't got the legs to carry that extra 750g. Sure it might cost a bit more but it's well worth spending a few extra dollars if you'd rather not work a bit harder.
i had a pinarello. it got stolen, so i got my first allez sprint. i then sold the allez sprint and went through a tarmac sl6, oltre xr2, oltre xr4, madone 9, and after going through all these bikes, im back on the allez sprint. great geometry, and good fund to ride, and doesnt break the bank :)
You just nailed it! Your Summary on pro and cons....agree on the frame. This bike rocks when you have the right set of wheels, and from my experience it's around 50mm....in terms of comfort, my suggestion to any one of there looking to build off this frame, use tubeless 28c.... It clears the frame. Finally, your last point, why you got rid of it, and while this is the most exciting bike I have ever ridden, I need to also create space for a new bike. I didn't sell it.... I relocated it to Australia where my folks still live. Cam, I will send you details of my new build (just finished). That took into account lessons learned from the allez....
I recently discovery your channel after I was thinking in assembling a Sprint Allez. Your videos really helped me to make one of my best decisions of making the build and it was super worth it!! My Sprint Allez was finished last week and I that bike is a beast! I have good aluminium wheels on the bike and agree that is a little hard, but it is the first time that I have such an aggressive frame and my first custom build too and it is just amazing.I still have to find the best fit for the bike, but I am already in love! I hope next year I can upgrade to some good carbon wheels, but the way the bike feels now seems already good! Thank you for the really honest and good reviews!! Sad about the good bye on that beautiful Allez! Great video!! Cheers!!
I'm not a huge Specialized fan (no reason) but watching that I felt like I was also saying goodbye to an old friend !! Saying goodbye too much-loved bikes is always a bit hard......until the new one enters your life and it's like "what bike?" :) Keep up the great work Cam.
Goodbye to your Allez Sprint - The bike that first introduced me to your channel when I was looking for review on the Allez Sprint before getting my own. Love my Allez Sprint and hope that the day will not come when I have to say goodbye to it as well
Loved the piano keys at the end... since we’re sharing, when I was moving on from my first bike, a 2014 Specialized Roubaix SL4, I felt a tinge sad. It was the one that reintroduced me to Cycling; I did my first century on it, I discovered what bonking was and had enough leg cramps and flats that it improved my nutrition and cycling mechanics knowledge. I enjoyed its unique look and different styling from other bikes. But my cycling habits and goals changed from being a casual rider to competitive groups rides - and going as fast as possible became my adrenaline. I was sad, but I was glad too. I had come to recognize the limits of its abilities and geometry. The bike was exceptionally heavy and lacked nimbleness despite upgrading the groupset and wheelset. I had to nurse it through corners like a giant giraffe with an ankle sprain. As difficult as it was to say goodbye, I poured myself a glass of Drambuie and played Frank Sinatra’s "One For the Road," said cheers, then turned and smiled at my new, lighter, more nimble one... 😎🥃
Great stuff mate, thanks for sharing. There's nothing like a good bonking to give you a virtual slap for not focusing enough on nutrition. Well done on getting through the ride. What is your new weapon? Sorry if you have told me this in the past. Cam
Cam Nicholls I looked at/researched several different manufacturers (Trek, Cervelo, etc) at a variety of different model/price points. I was pretty much ready to get the Tarmac, but then the new 2020 Roubaix was released. I did a test ride and ended up getting that one. I rarely "unlock" the setting, but I have on occasion when I’ve found myself on a pretty trash road.
Great video Cam. Your reviews are so honest, I really feel like it's a personal friend of mine giving me the low-down on a bike. Really nice sentimental piano piece at the end, geez I felt a twinge of emotion there. Even though it's just an object, it carried you through many many miles and brought you back safe and sound. Nice to give the bike a fond farewell.
Hello everyone, I still have my Allez Sprint Comp that I bought new in 2017. For me, it's a great bike. I participate in group rides on weekends and can keep up with the pack. Many times, I finish the training session ahead of bikes that are all carbon fiber. I think whether the bike is a few grams lighter or heavier doesn't make much difference. That's why I find it more interesting to focus on training rather than just swapping bikes because of a difference of 200 or 300 grams most of the time. I'm going to stick with my "Super Allez Sprint". The only thing I'd like to change on my Allez would be to swap out the current Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels for some 50mm carbon wheels and an aero handlebar-not because they're carbon, but because they would make the bike more racing. Greetings to everyone from Brasilia, Brazil. lets ride.
The bike has served you well Cam, and for a very level entry price, you raced A Grade (Cad1) and put on a sexy set of wheels of which made the bike look awesome. Just goes to show its not the bike but the rider that counts.
nice to part ways with a bike on good terms. blessings, you've got better things to enjoy up next. that westwood rack is an absolute masterpiece. hoping all is well over there.
Cheers Eriq, and good to hear from you! It's been a while between comments. I missed a few a while back because life got crazy, but back on track now. Hope all is well at your end also. Cam
I love, love, love my Allez sprint... I was lucky to purchase secondhand, with mostly all Duraace.. Slapped on some killer China carbons, and on the road !
I bought the first year Allez red hook 2yrs ago, built with red and zipp404, then collected the 2nd year red hook frame and built with force and bora one 50. The way I look at frame only sale option from specialized is it gives you the real potential to build something so cool that is beyond the measurement of price tag. And above that, allez sprint gives me the confidence to hammer down seeing any riders going my way and make it an epic battle, nothing is better than those moments. The paint work gives you a shine and stand out moment among any group rides, and you have to have some knowledge base to cycling to own it since this is the heck racy bike the sales at LBS won’t introduce to first time shoppers. Comfort wise, it’s more traditional geometry with shorter Ett makes it a pretty good fitting to compensate the stiffness. Overall these are best bikes industry can offer with secretly low amount of attentions.
I snagged a plane jane black and white 2019 Allez sprint disc recently, a shop demo model, for 2k CAD fully built with hydro brakes shimano 105... I'll agree on wheel choice. with the DT Swiss R450 wheels it came with, it doesn't feel as fast as it looks like it should. Especially coming from a lighter aero carbon rim-brake bike. and the seat post makes concerning creaking noises when torquing it to spec. But i haven't had to do that due to post slipping yet, and the peace and quiet of a threaded bottom bracket is really nice.
alas....I will never be able to feel your pain since at 120kg,my first ride on an allez sprint would very likely be the frame's last!!!however,i recently had to part with my beloved giant tcr-slr, one of the fastest and stiffest as well as lightest alu frames i could ride and have something left of the frame, so i do feel some of your lament! as always, rock on mate!
Nice little film! I'm surprised to hear a guy like you would even dare to use Schwalbe Marathons. They are bulletproof tyres that I've used for commuting but heavy. I pulled some out of storage the other day and was surprised at their weight. They'll go on my commuter when winter kicks in but until then....storage! Look forward to your 2020 project!
Won't those Enve wheels cost more than the entire allez sprint bike? Here in india, they cost more than full carbon fiber bike (Giant TCR advanced for example) I have fulcrum racing 4 wheels and on my Scott speedster 10, my average speed increased by average 2kmph. I once have ridden my friend's allez and I personally found it bit too aggressive (I am entry level cyclist) Very good informative video about allez sprint btw. Shared with 3-4 friends who are looking to buy allez sprint. That piano at the end is good as well
agreed on everything......for price point and geometry (and adding carbon wheels) this bike rides very well and FAST. seatpost and clamp are a pain although they look cool
And goodbye Allez Sprint! 😢😢 Are you keeping the Giant or getting something bigger and better? You're right about custom builds. Much more fun adding new components to an existing bike, especially new wheels and 1x conversions. Cheers Peter
I still have this exact same bike but put a 28mm tire. I am a nonpro, so will keep it for a few more years. The wider 28mm feels really good, and for road bike I like v clamp break, it’s light so I think it is alright for me. Like your video, keep it up.
Hi, my friend. Here Guilherme from Brazil! how does it compare to Merida React or Giant Propel for instance? Power tranference and stifness. IT will help me a lot. I m dreaming about this bad boy.
I like your channel, Cam, keep up the good work! I have a 2017 Specialized Allez SL Sprint Comp that I got at a warranty claim discount when my 20 year old Specialized Allez Elite cracked where the seat tube meets the bottom bracket area. I like it a lot, although I do need to upgrade my alloy wheels. Are there any less expensive carbon wheelsets for use with rim brakes that you would recommend? My friend bought a set of Carbon wheels online from a knockoff Chinese factory and he likes them. However, he has disc brakes, so less risky, imo. I ride a lot of hills, so I need reliable braking.
Thanks for the kind words and sharing mate. You can get plenty of good deals these days for Rim brake carbon rims, so just go with a solid brand name and you'll be right. Cam
I have a perfect race bike (doing long road races and hilly time trials) and i am in the need of something to train on. Somehow the Allez looks like the ideal bike for it, although we dont have crits over here :D Alloy makes it durable for rides in the cold and bad weather and equipped with the right wheels you can even do fast group rides with it. How does the allez perform on moutains and decents? And what about the so often mentioned "aggresiveness"? Or should i go for a trek sl5? Somebody?
I think its only good for crit racing tbh aggressive geo + alloy pretty much the only two things it has going for it less chance of destroying a frame in a crash
Cool vid to say good bye! I will never get rid of mine! It is epic. My seat post is epic good and I am 97kg... the one thing I dislike about it is the cable guides... I Have eTap so they are useless.
Cheers mate, interesting that you haven't had seat post issues. Especially given your quad wattage/power. Maybe you've got good twisting techniques when screwing those bolts in! Cam
Must be a trackie thing? Haha I actually just used carbon paste for it which stops the post from wanting to move. I didn’t ever have issues with my Venges either.
Really curious to know which bikes you had in mind when you mentioned they would be better for this price point (2k is my max budget and I will not be able to add nice wheels to allez)
Curious to know if it makes more economical sense to have sold the bike with all the components or just sell the frame like you did. I’m going to sell my bike soon and I was juggling between the two options.
Hard to say. My components were a bit scratched up so I thought it would be best to go with the frame only. It's also promoted as a build frame, so another thing to keep in mind. Cam
Hey Cam do you reckon the Allez Sprint might be too rough for a super commuter? I'm looking to break some Strava PR's on my 50km round trip but don't want to be too beat up!
Nick Hayes I have an allez sprint and it really does beat me up quite a bit. The slower you ride, the more punishing the ride quality. I’m truly miserable on 3-7 hour rides. For sub 2 hour smash-fests, it’s great, though. The bike comes alive on glass-smooth roads, too. There are many frames on the market but the allez sprint might literally be the worst choice for commuting due to its aggressive geometry and harsh ride quality.
Fyi, tarmac sworks is the same as the description by saurabh re the allez... if you wish something more comfort oriented then do roubaix...btw I ride tarmac/sworks-2016...
Tarmac Comp would be a great choice. I agree, Allez isn't a good bike for commuting. The other consideration is the Roubaix. That bike is 'endurance' but it's leaning towards 'race' in it's geometry and that is by far the best bike path road bike I have ever ridden. It loves the bumps and divots. Cam
I went from an Allez Sprint Red Hook to a Venge Pro disc (luckily my team gets a great deal on them from our shop partner). I loved my Allez but I could hardly see myself going back to one again. I have owned other carbon bikes, but the Venge is just different.
Great video as always! Sad seeing this bike go though P.S. : The link for the video in the newsletter isn’t working for me. If you know any reasons why this is happening, I would really enjoy because the topic in that video look very interesting and useful for me. Thanks!
Hmmm...an emotional video 😢 and good one. Never easy to get rid of bikes. This Allez is of the best looking bikes I’ve seen..I mean the decal and the fork. Love it but might be a little too aggressive for me!! Is it still available or SOLD?!
hi, really does't matter pro and down, say farewell to a byke it make me sad, and personally have a small crash on that perticular byke, so my friend, i am please to see these video because it show respect for one companion, not only a object. respect
@@CamNichollsno i am the one have to say : " i appreciate that" . i wasted so much time on my jouth, i was enjoy riding so much when i was young , i lost that when on the way for family problem and on the way to grow up i forgot about how much i loved cycling. I got one byke as a birthday present 9 years ago and like a magic, everything came back to me, i had so much joy to drive, it was an 15kg training NAKAMURA byke but that was everything i had and i was love it, some small adjustements and i was able to do stuf that friend of mine was doing with better byke, just a bit slower :) . anyway i lost that byke somewone stolen from me, and i have been in very sad for ......( i still very sad for ) , not because they still it but because i miss her. after all of these i just mean i do RESPECT the love you give to your companion on weel . be proud of your self always.
Damn dude. I was riding an Sworks tarmac this year. I ride conti level and my seat post tanked during the french nationals 😂. I was done after 30min. Their clamps are garbage
“The bike sucks without carbon wheels” No dude, if you pull old, corroded velocity rims off your beater and put them on a nice bike, it won’t feel like a nice bike. I’ve got mine set up with HED Ardennes + LT and Hutchinson Intensive tubeless tires and it hauls. Sure it hauls MORE with 60mm wheels but what doesn’t. The rim brake allez sprint was one of the best race bikes ever made, period, based purely on how much value you get for your dollar. It’s a shame they discontinued the rim brake version, now we are stuck with a disc brake version that looks pro but will ever be as race worthy because of the weight increase. Pro tip, get a small ski sharpening stone and run it down your (cleaned) brake track now and then, it will remove the dark oxidized layer and leave you with rims that look and brake like new. www.artechski.com/swix-pocket-whetstone/?sku=577-1249&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvIT5BRCqARIsAAwwD-QGQt99EsGM4OFSnATsYc8sEqjMoKMTpOGP3Qnjfrz2UE0SKcV3ic4aAtexEALw_wcB

Yeah im not a real biker. Cause i dont have my own bike. I just barrowing from my uncle to ride on. But i want to be a cyclist. But i cant afford to buy a new one😢 even its 2nd hand i cant afford it. So i want to win that Merida. Hopefully 💖
@@Bungle2010 true. But usually affordable does mean what is available and accessible to the everyday man (in most cases even people who earn less than average). Like an affordable car would be a car the majority of the population would be able to afford. If that makes sense.
As a relative noob to the world of cycling and an owner of an aluminum bike myself, how so? I've been thinking about upgrading to carbon but not sure if the cost is worth it.
Yes, aluminum can be light. My Giant TCR is as light as many carbon bikes (if not lighter!). I admit, I'm not a performance pro rider so maybe I'm missing something but I enjoy the reassurance that if I have an accident I might still be able to ride my bike unlike carbon which may make the bike unusable. Also, it's a damn site cheaper and my wife likes that!!! :)
When you compare it to all major materials, it sits in the middle of most. So it's an all-rounder and can be considered lightweight, when not comparing to carbon. Really good video here worth watching: th-cam.com/video/Yc9MVuR_MPM/w-d-xo.html
IM HERE WATCHING AND DREAMING FOR SPECIALIZED ALLEZ SPRINT THAT I REALLY WANT
This is my favorite bike. I've had one since 2017 and I love it. Hate to see her go! Allez!

the piano had me in tears !!!!! no one likes goodbyes
I was close in editing myself Paul!
Why sad? The bike presumably goes to someone who will cherish it an enjoy it. So props to the bike and the buyer!!
Ill never say goodbye to my alloy baby (caad12)!
I wish they made the sprint frameset with a direct mount option. Its a happy medium between rim brake and disc brake that checks all my boxes.
i had a pinarello. it got stolen, so i got my first allez sprint. i then sold the allez sprint and went through a tarmac sl6, oltre xr2, oltre xr4, madone 9, and after going through all these bikes, im back on the allez sprint. great geometry, and good fund to ride, and doesnt break the bank :)

I love your bike stand ... how can I get it ?
Really curious to know which bikes you had in mind when you mentioned they would be better for this price point (2k is my max budget and I will not be able to add nice wheels to allez)
Specialized Tarmac Sport
So what are your alternate options for a road bike like this in the 2000 USD price range?
Specialized Tarmac Sport is a great option.
@@CamNicholls Thanks mate. Was hoping to avoid carbon frame but I think it's time to embrace progress... Press fit bottom brackets.. ugh.
Always like your candor...✌out Allez!!
Cheers Angus, much appreciated. Cam
2:51 Hi Cam, what kind of tires are these . . .
Are they more durable than slick.
Cheers Mare
He say it clearly, schwalbe marathon tires
Yes its more durable but its heavy
Correct, the Schwalbe Marathons. You will never get a flat but they will slow you down. Great for training. Cam
Ok., thanks . . . we don’t all know everything 😉 😉 😉
+1 for building your own bike up rather than going stock. Also, that plant needs some water Cam mate.
haha, it was the pick of an unwatered bunch. About to set the entire room up as a studio, so hopefully better things to come.
Cam
Nice outro past cowan station
Packing a Specialized bike in a Scott box. My OCD has a problem with that 😄
Any suggestions on what's the best bike to consider in $2000 range?
Specialized Tarmac Sport
New subscriber, looking forward the training plan vid.
Next week Roberto! Stay tuned and thanks for supporting the channel. Cam
anybody knows what size those wheels are?
Enve 6.7s
@@CamNicholls Thank you! I have a 2019 Allez and am going to get some aero wheels this summer!
Would you say this bike would be good for someone who rides 20-40 miles a day?
Better off with a Tarmac Sport in my opinion
@@CamNicholls Cheers mate. Contemplating selling my Giant Contend AR2 for a Allez frame but if it’s just made for races might not be a good choices
@@404nobrakes cheers, that's really good feedback. Guess I'll save an extra grand and get a Tarmac Comp!
Cam
@@CamNicholls cheers mate. I ride an alloy Synapse but keen to upgrade. Might look at the Tarmac and Roubaix 👌
I wish I have a bike like that 🙁
I went from an Allez Sprint Red Hook to a Venge Pro disc (luckily my team gets a great deal on them from our shop partner). I loved my Allez but I could hardly see myself going back to one again. I have owned other carbon bikes, but the Venge is just different.
You're bang on mate, the Venge is a weapon. Another level or two above the Allez. Cam
Great video as always! Sad seeing this bike go though
P.S. : The link for the video in the newsletter isn’t working for me. If you know any reasons why this is happening, I would really enjoy because the topic in that video look very interesting and useful for me. Thanks!
Sorry to hear that Vincent. I have added you though as per our emails. Cheers
Were is the bike going?
Perth will be the new home Jack.
About any size 49 boss
Can you spare me some🙏
Tell that to Jonny Brown who won the road nationals on an Allez Sprint
Hmmm...an emotional video 😢 and good one. Never easy to get rid of bikes. This Allez is of the best looking bikes I’ve seen..I mean the decal and the fork. Love it but might be a little too aggressive for me!! Is it still available or SOLD?!
Heppy to see change of things (your new road bike project for 2020 ) sad the allez had to go
Cheers Jonnadrian. Cam
hi, really does't matter pro and down, say farewell to a byke it make me sad, and personally have a small crash on that perticular byke, so my friend, i am please to see these video because it show respect for one companion, not only a object. respect
Cheers mate, appreciate that. Cam
What did the bike weigh?
Never weighed it with the carbons Justin. Only when I built it up with lots of weight.
are you selling that specialized allez Sprint
Hi Ishmael, yes I have already sold it to someone. It's gone to a good home, I can report. Cheers, Cam
Damn dude. I was riding an Sworks tarmac this year. I ride conti level and my seat post tanked during the french nationals 😂. I was done after 30min. Their clamps are garbage
Sorry to hear that Gabriel, sounds like a very frustrating experience for you! Cam
Please explain the bike on the dindin table
Long story!
Just acquired one.. did under 200k on it.. and u have sold yours.. feels like losing a friend.. mine is ultegra grouppie and weights around 7.6kg
You have a nice ride there David. As discussed, love the Allez, just need to keep the content fresh on the channel with new bikes rolling through!
How the hell did you get it to 7.6kg? I weighed mine which is a 52 with roval clx60 and 105 R7000 and weighs just over 8kg
“The bike sucks without carbon wheels”
No dude, if you pull old, corroded velocity rims off your beater and put them on a nice bike, it won’t feel like a nice bike.

Things come and go huh :
Good bye allez😩 because of your allez, i discover your channel, sad to know! Good bye Specialized Allez!
Thanks for sharing that Tan. Cheers, Cam
i want the scultura please for christmas thanks
Honestly - get a CAAD12 or 13 - these have been VERY, VERY stiff bikes since the E5 Allez.
I have tried, Cannondale don't respond! So maybe it's time to buy one
Give it to me hehe
I sold my allez 2 years ago T_T, worst decision I ever made
They are a good bike! Cam
I am sure it will find a good home ha ha ha
It already has Harry! It's gone to Western Australia. Cam
Nice!👍 that was quick
"Its affordable", just over 2 grand lol
Sadly, that's the bike industry.
@@Bungle2010 true. But usually affordable does mean what is available and accessible to the everyday man (in most cases even people who earn less than average). Like an affordable car would be a car the majority of the population would be able to afford. If that makes sense.
With what we get from that money, i'll go with the TCR advanced
Whyyyyyy aree you saying goodbye to a roadbikeee!!!!its so painfulll
Espacially on the ennnd😟
Hoping again for the give away😊

I did! Thanks for the pickup mate. Just fixed that up... Not a word I normally type out. Hope you're well Cam
Bye Allez
video starts at @3:10 WTF MAN
5:48 just use a torque wrench problem solved
That's the problem. It don't... It slips all the time. I rode some classics and the allez Sprint always seems to have seat post problems
Yes, it's frustrating, but some times you'll nail it for whatever reason. Then don't touch it!!! Cam

he is not satisfied with the bike haha
BYE ;(
Aluminium light?...i'd only have it for it's durability. Carbon wins everything else.
@@eilrach299 TCR's are carbon
www.giant-bicycles.com/int/bikes-tcr-slr-2020
When you compare it to all major materials, it sits in the middle of most. So it's an all-rounder and can be considered lightweight, when not comparing to carbon. Really good video here worth watching: th-cam.com/video/Yc9MVuR_MPM/w-d-xo.html
