      Same for me. The only guy I really hated in that Pistons team was Laimbeer, whom I consider the dirtiest ever, well, at least from the 80's onward. Dumars was a smart dude, it's not that easy to earn MJ's respect.

    Joe was amazing. He was always checking guys two and three or more inches taller, but always played every top guard as well as anyone in the league could do.
    And he could score, of course, at all three levels. He was truly the "perfect guard."

    Joe is my favorite player, such an amazing defender. I don't know any stats showing this but he forced at least 2 offensive fouls on him every game! Perfect base and he would stop at the perfect moment and take the charge. He could have better numbers if he wanted but he chose not to, to give the whole team the best results. Great 3 pt shot when the team needed the most, amazing long range 2 pt coming off the screen. Humble! The opposite of the arrogant Lakers showtime!

    Growing up in Detroit in the 80s and 90s, we all loved Zeke, but please know Joe D was the MAN!!! He was not only one of the best defenders, Joe would give you 25 with ease! He could handle, could penetrate, and he could SHOOT!!! We were suprised when he missed type of good. And he only played better the bigger the moment! We need more Joe D's!

    Overall, no player was able to stop Michael Jordan on a consistent basis. I have often wondered though, why did smaller players give Michael Jordan more of a challenge? I had noticed during the 1980's and 90's players like Sidney Moncrief, Joe Dumars, Gary Payton, John Starks, Vernon Maxwell, Mitch Richmond and Mookie Blaylock would at times make Jordan a bit uncomfortable and make him work harder when he was on offense. Players like GP and Vernon would defend MJ with their amazing athletic abilities straight up. And Dumars, Starks and Blaylock sometimes would find a way to get directly underneath MJ and actually block some of his jumpers.
    At the same time, I noticed at times MJ was able to post up taller players with ease like Grant Hill, Clyde Drexler and other players with similar builds with little difficulty. It was definitely strange how that appeared as it seems obvious on trying to put a taller athletic defender on MJ. The 90's had good defensive players.

    Can anybody imagine how scary a Pistons fantasy team would be going up against all of the others?! Would they win?! You'd have Prince, Rodman, Dumars, Sheed, Big Ben, Thomas(cold as ice with a game to match), Billups,

    Joe was just classy. While everyone was marveling at his defence at the end of the game he might well have 30 quiet points. Easy. Mike had two inches of height on Joe but Joe was immensely strong with powerfull legs. Watching Joe and Mike go at it was simply the best basketball you could ever ask to see. Mike usually came out on top but the Pistons usually took the wins. It was much better basketball than you see now because defence was allowed back then.

    As great as the timeline was for the Pistons to be sandwiched in the middle of the Lakers/Celts rivalry and Jordan's reign, can you imagine if that Pistons team was just a little younger to go through the entire 90s and give the Bulls a rivalry throughout the decade rather than Jordan having no real rivalry other than the Knicks for a couple years? The entire decade would have been insane.

  • @MrMixItup
    @MrMixItup 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nobody stopped Jordan but as a Team the Pistons was undeniably the best (until they weren’t the best anymore). Joe D. understood the game plan for MJ and how to execute it. Honestly Joe was too small to guard MJ but he could press up on him because the lanes were closed and Mike wasn’t passing the rock.

  • @Sleepy4213
    @Sleepy4213 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The thing about Dumars… he was one of the ONLY guards who could stay in front of Jordan. The Jordan-rules only worked for the pistons… why? Because no other guard in the league could make the help side defense and the fouls work to degrade the effectiveness of Jordan. I HATED the pistons, but damn did I think Dumars was a stud. Now he’s regulating on these modern weak ass players and making them play 65 games to get an award. Love him even more.
