    If you were alive during Jordan's playing days and old enough to be cognizant of what you were watching, no one needs to explain it.
    The eye test is king.
    Jordan owned everyone, caused fear in opponents and awe in fans ...in the most competitive and talented era in NBA history.
    The absolute G.O.A.T.

      @@markleeman9932 Bird was the greatest competitor the NBA ever saw and even he dropped this quote, "I would never have called him the greatest player I'd ever seen if I didn't mean it," Bird told The Boston Globe. "It's just God disguised as Michael Jordan."

      I agree with everything you said-except for the “eye test being king” and “that era-being most talented/competitive”;
      Basically, the only time that the “eye test” is somewhat reliable-is when you have limited data/information;
      Or, if you’re talking about things that can’t really be “measured”; Like “skill level”.
      Otherwise, it’s just a much less accurate version of things like stats/analytics.
      Humans are biased; Numbers aren’t.
      And I’m saying that-as someone that despises things like analytics.
      I really do wish they weren’t a part of Sports, because they completely take the beauty out of the Game-and turn everything into a math problem; But, unfortunately-that’s the world we’re in now.
      And as far as the ‘most talented era’…
      In any Sport, or form of competition-The most recent era-is almost always going to be “the best”.
      Sports are just like anything else-They evolve over time.
      The Competitors get to learn from those who came before them. They get to see what does-and doesn’t work. And, as Science, Technology, Medicine gets better-the Athletes’ training evolves, their bodies, their conditioning, their nutrition, etc. etc… all of those things evolve, as well.

    • @unnaturalselection8330
      @unnaturalselection8330 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@CipherSerpico The current era is less talented than the 80s-90s if you've played or watched alot of basketball.
      The players travel, carry, set moving picks, commit offensive fouls, flop with zero whistles blown ...and generally lack basic fundamentals.
      ...Not to mention the zone defense and no hand checks.

    • @CipherSerpico
      @CipherSerpico ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unnaturalselection8330 “The current era is less talented than the 80s-90s”;
      The current era has the higher _True Shooting% + 3-point% + Free throw% + eFG%._
      That means they’re “better shooters” than the players from the 80s+90s.
      They also have the lower _Turnover%._
      Which means the current players-make less bad passes-and/or-they are better at controlling/handing the ball-than the 80-90s players.
      So, if the current players have better shooting, better passing, and better handles…
      What were the 80s-90s players better at?
      In which ways-were they more talented?

  • @jeffroberts8246

    He is the greatest because when it mattered the most, like Tiger in the 2000s, he made the shot, the pass, the free throw, the steal, block, and the dunk. He was poetry in motion. He was basketball at it's purest. The NBA today just does not understand. Our hero back then made it happen and never let us down. There will never be another.

      That's debatable. Michael was the best one man show hands down, but he wasn't a team player, he didn't make his teammates better, Bird did. I saw Bird play one time, and Michael several, it wasn't until I was old and started studying what the greats who played said about Bird that made me question who the GOAT is. Bird played great, and made his teammates better according to them. He contributed to both McHale and Parrish by passing them the ball, I think one said he was responsible for at least 5K of his points.

    I heard about that lit cigar and walking into a locker room [ never knew it was the "Hawks"] and as Mr. Wilkins said he lit the the stadium up... and another one where he was playing Golf with a NHL player, I think was Ronix from "Blackhawks" and he said MJ had like ten big Bud lights and was able to win his bet back after losing on the Golf course. The bet was he was gonna win the game by twenty points and he won the game by twenty six and won back all what he'd lost on the Golf course earlier on that day... and aslo, he lost Game 5 at the United Center by the "Suns" in the Finals and he said to the players before Game 6 in Phoenix, "... he only brought one suit"... He's not planning to lose tonights game... Jordan is the standard that sets the bar for which has stand longer than any of the greats before him and after the standard as not change up to this minute and it wiil stand for a very long time before we see anything to transcend the sport greater than he has done... Kobe and Duncan was close, but, we haven't seen that as yet!

    To all people saying Lebron is better than Jordan is completely wrong. Jordan could play both sides of the court and score at will in a much tougher era. Jordan played in 374 less games as of rn. That is an average of a little over 4 seasons, yet he still managed to score over 32,000 points and average 30ppg. He easily could have broken Kareem's record had he played the longevity Lebron has. Jordan was also named DPOY and made all-nba defensive first team 9x. Granted, Lebron was first team 5x, but he is by no means as well as a defender. Jordan led the league in steals 3x, but 0 for Lebron. Jordan is also 6-0 in championships and 6x champion MVP while Lebron is 4-6. I still think Lebron is a hell of a player, but I just do not think he is the GOAT

    When Jordan was on defense, his mentality seemed like he was still on offense. Like "you have the ball? That's MY ball." Pippen adopted that, too, and only thing close to it I can think of is Payton.

    I’m 41 years old and grew up within an hr of Atlanta.
    Me and my brother were big basketball fans, but my dad pretty much was only interested in football.
    One of my greatest regrets (albeit one that I never had any control over) was never watching MJ and Nique in person just once.
    Granted those tickets sold out everytime the Bulls came to Atlanta.

    MJ truly is the GOAT and it's absurd that some are still claiming others. IMO Wilt is just behind MJ (the greatest Big Man ever and it's not even close), then Larry Bird as #3. So glad that you included the Pierce cli talking about MJ and his cigars. MJ was knows to smoke a cigar before (some) games. Could he have been even more electric without the scotch & cigars? ...I don't see how, MJ was just super blessed by God physically even down to his perfect bball frame. No, he didn't have to put a pseudo-all-star team together to be competitive as is done now JUST to be competitive for a title, not even guaranteed to win. The 90's Bulls weren't questioned as to winning it all each year, it was just in 'how many games will they do it in'. The Spurs did it in like fashion. A blessing to draft Timmy when they did (had The Admiral not gotten injured that previous season they wouldn't have gotten Timmy). They traded for complimentary pieces and not perennial All-Stars, like the Bulls did. Look at the teams who build such 'all-star' teams now and without great success. Like a puzzle, there can only be four corners in a rectangle and any more just doesn't work. That's why Robert Horry has 7 Rings, He played his role to perfection as one of the most under-appreciated, most clutch players in NBA/ABA history. Outside of Steph Curry, who is more clutch than Robert Horry was? I can't think of anyone right now. His clutch shooting and clutch wing defender defense when the game was on the line was legendary & super consistent.

    Vince Carter is wrong. Jordan did earn his points, but.... the refs absolutely gave Mike the benefit of the whistle in his prime. MJ got all the calls, all the time... he got the treatment that Iverson and Kobe got later, because he was the prototype for that kind of protection from the Ref. If MJ got hurt, the league would lose MASSIVE revenue... so he became too valuable not to protect. If we could us AI to watch every minute of MJ coverage, for his entire career, and analyze how his contact was called, vs league average, the AI could put a number on that foul quotient, and MJ would lead the league in ref protection by a landslide. Of course MJ was the best of the best, but he became too valuable to allow the league to beat on him after a certain point in his career. I don't think anyone is complaining about that, as a fan, we all wanted to see him play our team, we just wished he didn't get the benefit of every whistle all game long in that era (when he played us)
