December 27th, 1997. 12 year old white boy from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada lucky enough to have an uncle and aunt who lived in Highland Park, IL. Uncle told me that morning we were going out for a bite to eat that evening at “Mike’s Place”, be sure to wear your MJ jersey and Js. Evening comes and all of sudden we are close by the United Center. I still figured we were going to MJs restaurant. Start walking and suddenly we are in front of a gate to the stadium. I looked at my uncle with a weird look and said I thought we were going to “Mikes place” for supper and he replied, with the biggest smile “Yes, why do you think we are here?” I was completely and literally shocked and wasn’t sure if it was a joke. Bulls played the Hawks that night. I remember it all so very well and always will. Few things that still stand out: 1 - the intro music, that’s when I realized it was real. I asked my uncle why the crowd was booing Luc Longley every time he touched the ball and being told it was no booing but it was the crowd yelling LUuuuuuuuuuccc!! 2 - binoculars so my uncle could see the cheerleaders better 😂😂😂 3 - rodman had 29 freaking rebounds! 4 - MJ scoring 47! And Phil taking him out with lots of time left and him not hitting 50! 5 - the crowd cheering and encouraging rodman to shoot when he had the ball, especially if he was behind the 3 point line, and him doing so and hitting a 3!!!! We were in IL for Xmas and everyone knew I was going to the game, every1 kept it secret! Best Xmas present EVER and best surprise EVER! Biggest MJ fan before and bigger after! 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐😊

Same for me and I’m ‘93 from Chicago. Kobe kept the blueprint Jordan laid out going all the way to the end. Same reason you mentioned is why I got him #2 as well. If Jordan was Jesus, then what does that make his only student? Can’t put anybody above em. Jordan resume is ridiculous if we being honest too 🤣 10 scoring titles, 9 1st team all defense, 6 finals mvps, 6 rings, only player ever to win MVP, scoring champ, and 1st team all defense.. and he did it 4 times 🤣

      2. Kobe

Have to give Michael every accolade possible. That being said, MJ made the NBA a business for the NBA players, the players were able to capitalize monetarily thru commercials, business ventures, etc because of 23. He made it all possible for black and white NBA and eventually WNBA players to make business moves to further engage their opportunities for wealth. God blessed that man

I was someone who does not like basket ball prior to watching MJ on the television set. In contrast, I was a soccer fanatic. Until I was almost 21, I went to the US for my college education from Asia. One fine day in 1991 while I was switching the channels, I stumbled upon a Chicago Bulls playoff game live on NBC. This was also the season MJ and the Bulls won their first NBA title. I was totally stunned and captivated by the moves and dunks of MJ. He made the game looks articulated and beautiful. From that moment on, I totally changed my bias towards the game. I started watching MJ and the Bulls whenever they played. Prior to that, I did come across past legends on the screen, like Karim and others. To me, it was nothing but a tall man putting the ball in the net. MJ is totally different from his predecessors of the game, he is out of this world. He made the game so fascinating to watch. He is exactly like Superman performing his superpower on a basket court. He totally changed my perception of game as a sport. It is like an atheist, not believing the existence of the higher beings or the Divine until he witnessed it with his own eyes. MJ became an indelible part of my memory.

One of the best stories I’ve heard about MJ is that one told by Byron Scott “So they’re getting off the bus, we’re done with shootaround, and we’re walking out and MJ says, ‘B Scott, what’s going on?’ I said, ‘What’s up, MJ?’ he said, ‘Man, I hear that you’re not playing tonight.’ I said, ‘No, I sprained my ankle.’ He said, ‘Who’s guarding me?’ I said, ‘Anthony Peeler.’ He’s like, ‘50.’ [laughs]. So I told Anthony Peeler, ‘Listen, MJ is probably going to go for about 50 tonight on you. So just don’t piss him off. Just be cool.’ He ended up with 54,”…….Pure savagery!!!!

Loved the Video Bro. I was lucky enough to sit court side at the NBA finals and witnessed "the game from 20 yards away. As a Jazz fan I wish I can say I was surprised. But I left that game shaking my head. When I got to the car with my dad as a 17 year old he asked me what I thought. I said "the same thing as everybody watching" he said "what????" I said they got Michael I don't care if were up by 3 or 5 were not going to win. I am a true "witness" My dad passed last March. I never realized till just now that he gave me my middle name.... Michael

I loved watching basketball back in the day... had many dominant teams, much talent. Every year any team could of went all the way, so MJ was in a very talented pool and came out on top... that's what makes him special, along with the bulls team... I remember being excited not only to watch one team, but, to watch all the teams come out in a new season to see the fire and intensity they had to win that championship... I have never felt this way since, drama and the new Era has lost what once was... NBA is now like the WNBA, not fun to watch and people more about themselves than to build a team legacy which will lead to your own... MJ knew this and lived it everyday... he demanded it from himself and of his teammates... got to love it...

*Undisputed End of GOAT Debate right here*
Honestly the only people I ever see praising Lebron over Jordan, are all guys under 30 years old and weren’t even alive during the era of the Bad Boys Pistons, or the Showtime Lakers. You just cannot be in a GOAT debate with people who haven’t lived in the era when the original greats played. Statistics alone don’t show greatness.. it’s a combination of stats, competitiveness, clutch plays, Championship WINS versus Loses, *fear factor* (Jordan’s Killer instincts), and the way he changed the game. The NBA has changed since the one and only MJ, and teams like the 1989 and 1990 Detroit Pistons had to actually invent new rules to try and take Jordan down, because he was a team killer.. an ASSASSIN. So they invented “The Jordan Rules”, which consisted of fouling the shit out of him, knocking him down, and beating him up physically.
You will never find a book called “The Lebron Rules”, because the league is different now and those types of fouls and physicality isn’t even allowed anymore. Lebron is playing in a much weaker league that is less physical. Jordan had to play against the most Notorious flagrant foul team of all time in the Pistons, and also the New York Knicks in the 90’s, and he beat the crap out of them several times after those first two losses to the Pistons in the playoffs in 89’ and 90’. Jordan won every single championship he played in consecutively after that with the Bulls, on the same team he came in with. He didn’t sell out and go to another team to join other great players. He stayed with his squad, even after his father died and he retired in 94’ and 95’.. and came back to Chicago with completely different role player guys beside Scottie Pippen, and still won three more in a row. Jordan no doubt would have won those two championships in those two years, had he not retired. But the fact that he took two years to play a completely different sport and mourn the loss of his father, then come back and win like he didn’t even take a break, is a feat that nobody has ever done in any sport.
Before Michael Air Jordan came to the league, it was ALL about the big man Center game. Your best players were always the big man types like Bill Russel, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Walton, Ralph Sampson, etc.. that’s why Hakeem Olajuwon was the #1 pick in the draft by Houston and Jordan was #3 in 1984. After Jordan started dominating and winning championships, every player wanted to “Be like Mike”, and every team wanted a Michael Jordan TYPE of player. So every star player that came AFTER Michael Jordan, had imitated HIS game to a point where everyone was doing fade away jump shots, driving to the basket with ferocity, shooting three pointers, doing incredible dunks, and wearing air Jordan sneakers. The superstar signing Mega Million dollar shoe deals all came from the original Michael Jordan and Nike deal.
Michael changed the face of the game, and inspired everyone else to be great after him. Look at Kobe Bryant.. he is literally Michael Jordan in a different body with younger legs. Same killer instinct and same competitive nature, literally same looking jump shot and similar drive moves to the basket. No other NBA players game has been imitated like Michael Jordan’s.
Without Michael Jordan, we would have never seen a Kobe Bryant, or Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Dwayne Wade, Stephen Curry, or yes even Lebron James. All of these men are who they are BECAUSE of his Airness, Michael Jordan. Here’s a video which shows some of what I speak of, outside of stats:
    th-cam.com/video/yiKCnvO09q8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jLBJhWv0z5mZYAhq
Also, nobody talks about defense in these debates. Lebron is a phenomenal offensive player and he is the greatest force to ever drive to the basket and dominate as a power forward. But Lebron isn’t a great Defensive player like Jordan was. Jordan won Defensive Player of the year once, and made the NBA’s All Defensive Team several years in a row, on top of all of his scoring titles and championships. This right here is what separates Jordan from Lebron, and you cannot bring any argument for Lebron to compare.
Further more, when you ask the actual NBA players who played with Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, AND Lebron James.. and 100% of these NBA players would pick Michael Jordan over Lebron in a GOAT debate. I trust NBA players who played against them for this debate y’all.
    th-cam.com/video/SCk7pm8zV4k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uGYstt_u9Dgee2tk
I am 46 and I have seen them all play since the Showtime Lakers and George Gervin days in San Antonio. I grew up with this game and played in high school. In the 80’s and 90’s, Michael Jordan was GOD, and literally everyone wanted to be like Mike. Every baller imitated his moves. Everyone to this day wears his clothes, including Lebron James himself, who wears Jordan’s jersey number. Lebron desperately wants to be like Mike, and certainly would like to be the “King” of basketball.. So I’ll give Lebron the King status, but MJ will always be a basketball GOD.
Another point that must be spoken about, which every Lebron fan hates to consider, is Lebron James’s first ten seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. In that time he went to the NBA Finals only one time, and got SWEPT by my San Antonio Spurs in 2007. Then he decided to leave his team and join a superstar team in Miami, and he lost in the Finals to my second favorite team the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. That’s the first 10 years of Lebrons total career. Then, after he finally won his first two titles with Miami, he lost again to my Veteran San Antonio Spurs in 2014, blowing the Miami Heat Out 4 games to 1.
After that debacle, it was the new era dynasty team Golden State Warriors that dethroned him three times, in embarrassing fashion 2015, 2017 (4 games to 1), and again in 2018 (SWEPT), after he finally got one more Championship back in Cleveland. Lebrons entire first half of his career was a total bust, and you absolutely have to count those first years and all of those championship loses in this debate argument. Lebron James’s NBA Finals record will always be the Achilles heal of his Legacy. Can’t ignore this, and you will never be able to say the same about the Emperor Michael Jordan, Ever. MJ won every championship he played in, and on top of that, he single handedly was the “Title Robber” of some of the greatest basketball players to ever play in the NBA, including Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle, Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, Sam Bowie, Anthony Hardaway, Chris Mullen, Alonzo Morning, and Christian Latener, all of which are Hall of Fame players (except Christian). Lebron never did anything like that to anyone.
    www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/nba-reviewing-lebron-james-s-six-nba-finals-losses-ss
And for those who want to talk Stats and facts only, well here’s some more from the Greatest of All Time that you have never considered in the GOAT debate, compliments of Mr. Michael Air Jordan. This isn’t even a debate for those who know the FULL stats and facts.
    th-cam.com/video/xyngBl-C58w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w5VErl7ZRhBOP3FN
For the Advanced Stats that people seek to forget about MJ, and Lebron fans certainly never consider.. this is the one breakdown that 100% solidifies Michael Jordan’s GOAT status forever, and Lebron James will never catch him with his longevity argument.
    th-cam.com/video/_33SbsskbPU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=me47YyG7WCedxGSx
And lastly, I want all of you Lebron James fans to do me a favor.. Look down at your feet right now and be honest with me.. You are wearing a pair of AIR JORDANS on your feet right now aren’t you? Or you have at least three pairs of Air Jordan’s in your closet. That is all I want to say. The Acronym GOAT 🐐 stands for Greatest of All Time, and that first word Great comes from many factors. Never forget the man who paved the way for all the smaller and medium sized players to have the spotlight. Lebron has achieved many great feats, and is now even a Billionaire (Mike was the first sports mega Billionaire).. But nobody will ever compare to the one and only Legendary Michael Jordan.

I don’t think ppl truly understand the weight of Larry Bird words saying “that wasn’t MJ, that was God in basketball shorts”. When Larry dropped that quote in 1986 he was literally running the league. He was the baddest MF smoking. He was the MVP of the league and playing on one of the greatest championship teams in NBA history with like 5 hall of fame players. You literally couldn’t get a bigger compliment from anyone else at that moment in time. And he called MJ God in bball shorts. What’s really crazy about this story is the fact that this happened in only MJ’s 2nd year and he missed all but 18 games with a broken foot. He avg his worst or 2nd worst career low that year at 22.7 after avg 28 pts a game his rookie year. And think about this, yeah MJ was cooking at that time but really he actually didn’t even activate God Mode for another 5 years from then. That’s when he started walking on water.

One of my favorite stories was in a basketball camp Michael Jordan had this kid OJ Mayo
Mayo made it to the NBA 2 years to 3 years after Jordan had him at the camp.
He had talked some smack to Jordan at the camp, so Jordan took him after hours and beat him mercilessly in one-on-one.
The kid was like 20 years old or 19, and Jordan was 50.
In Jordan asked him to imagine Michael in his prime, if the old man was doing this to him at 50.

The Glow or Aura thing is real. I know I witnessed it first hand, not with Jordan but with my ex girlfriend. My girl went into the Army, within 6 months she was sending me a "Dear John Letter" It was cool because I had only met her a couple of months before she was scheduled to go in. About a year later I bumped into her at the supermarket, I was walking and I saw this girl talking with some women and they were giggling their asses off and then as I was passing by I noticed this auburn glow surrounding her entire body, like a full body halo! I she suddenly turned and looked me in the eyes and we stood their gazing at each other and then she smiled and her smile had a glow. I told her she was glowing and she said that what those women were telling her. Bottom line she was due to be married in 3 days, she came home to have the wedding so her family could be at the wedding! An amazing thing to see! So I guess it has to do with the person and their emotional state. Well, he left the chick later and that glow ain't there no more but man it was real!

I always found Kobe's comments about Jordan disrespectful. Kobe played a much older and an about to retire Jordan. I would have loved to see them play during Jordan's prime; oh Kobe would have called him "Black Jesus" for sure. In my opinion, Jordan was the greatest, and he provided a blueprint for others, including Kobe, which helped them to become great players. MJ and Kobe, there is no comparison. Period.
