Folks, sorry for not responding to your comments yet. As you know, I’m currently away riding Route 66. When I get a moment I’ll respond to you. Many thanks 🙏
Thanks. For 39 bucks that DJI is really good. Of course it might not last but I've proven that the Røde is also easy to break in the past. (Rødelink filmmaker kit.) I think the Osmo kit is really leading for motorcycle usage right now.
Morning Dave, thanks for bringing another lav mic test for us vloggers. I too have tried different mics, but always end up returning to my old faithful cheap mic which was designed for a lap/notebook. The Hama VSOP, which is now unfortunately no longer available on Amazon, but I have seen it on eBay. My criteria is probably different to other vloggers, as I like viewers to be able to get the atmosphere of riding with me. So we want a bit of wind noise, a nice balance of exhaust/intake noise, but without clipping, and clear voice while I am nattering away. From where I am sitting, only your mic 2 set up offered some of this, the others being too sterile….perfect for voice, but not so much for ambience. I have the OA3, with DJI mic adapter. In camera volume set at -6. We do sometimes get clipping at over 50/60mph, or when following other vehicles which causes “dirty air”, but for the most part, I am happy with it. I should perhaps play a bit more with the volume, to reduce the clipping, but when I am out and about, away from my home pc, I use an old laptop, which will only run a rubbish editing software which doesn’t allow for (almost) unlimited increase in volume. This means the finished video will be far too quiet. I did find that at -6 the DJI lav mic, through the adapter, is way too hot. Sorry for the lengthy reply. Thanks again
Interestingly, you can plug the DJI Lav Mic into the DJI transmitter. Thereby, the transmitter connects to the camera via Bluetooth, whereas you retain the lav mic function. This may be the most suitable solution: maintaining weather proofing of the camera, while having the small footprint of the lav mic, and storing the transmitter somewhere in a pocket of your jacket.
Very interesting. I am using a Shure Lav mic inside my Shoei. It took ages to get my setup right. I would like to try the DJI microphone. The Shure is £65 and I’m on my second one. Thank you Dave!! Very interesting 🧐
it is incomprehensible that DJI don’t make it possible to connect via Bluetooth to a Cardo intercom. For now you need to put 2 mics inside the helmet to record the conversation with your fellow riders. Stone Age technology
Talk about about awesome timing Dave,I've been having huge ballache with wired mics at the minute! 🤬🤣👍 I even bought 2 different brands of wireless ones off AliExpress & they are hilariously terrible so far,so think I'll try out this DJI lav mic & see how i get on! 👍😎 Oh & regardless what you said to me at the ABR...You've still the best channel name for this field on TH-cam mate!!! 😝🤣✌️
I've given up with lav mics, as I just couldn't find a place inside my helmet that gave clear audio over about 50mph, and the wires are a pain. I used the DJI Mic2 on my tour of Ireland and it sounded ok, but I have recently been experimenting with putting a second one under my seat paired to my second camera and then editing it in. With a quick bit of EQ and voice isolation, it is now sounding way better with lots of exhaust noise and hardly any wind. The firmware update on the Mic2 also made quite a difference with the sound, so voices sound less muddy.
Unbelievably good timing Dave, currently in the Picos & been running the Mic 2 for the last 3 days but find it's getting overwhelmed by the exhaust noise. Luckily I've the DJI Lav Mic & 3.5mm to USB C converter with me so will swap out tomorrow using your settings & see if it handles the voice over a bit better. Thankfully waterproofing not a concern here as currently 25 degrees. I know, life's tough 😂
Good timing this, I'm struggling with my switch to dji. Everything's great but getting the purple panda mic to pick up some bike noise is a pain. I have some time today to mess around with it, but the AI wind noise built in only picks up my voice. Been here many times and setting up is such a PITA!
Good morning Dave, from sunny Worcestershire, for a change! Great upload and very interesting from a non vloggers perspective. I'm guessing these microphones would also work with helmet comms too, if you want to upgrade from the standard options supplied?
Hi Michael. I’ve not messed around too much with the helmet comms system as the microphones used on them are different in terms of input level. I’ve not heard of anyone who has had good results this way so I’m staying clear for the moment.
Excellent video pal. Did you put the wireless receiver on your helmet or did you have it in your picked and plug a lab mic in to it and have that in your helmet. I’m literally at the point of what route to go down as I’ve just bought an action 4. So perfect timing from a video point of view. Cheers bud
Loved that ❤having just updated from the shocking GoPro brand to a dji 5 pro I’m trying the dji mic2 slide into my helmet as I like the fact it keeps the camera sealed downside is It doesn’t leave a lot of room I’m thinking of using the dji lav plugged into the dji mic 2 that will slip into my pocket do you think this will work as well as the lav mic plugged into the camera 😊
Yes absolutely. I know a few lads who do it this way and it works perfectly. There’s still that annoying delay though when switching the camera on and waiting 15 seconds for the transmitter to connect.
Today I purchased the DJI Lav mic and connected this to the Mic 2. So hopefully this will be ok. At least this way it minimises cabling. Dave, how did you connect the DJI Lav mic to the Osmo Action 4? Greetings from Australia! Look forward to your vid every Saturday!
So Dave, did you connect the Mic2 with the receiver or by Bluetooth? I only have a stand alone Bluetooth unit and the performance even with BT seems pretty good at -12, I previously used the DJI lavalier, very good results too using the original DJI mics and receiver and of course the elastic band.😉
Hi Dave. Great video. I have a Shoei Neotec 3 and struggling to get clear audio. I have a Mic 2 (standalone transmitter) with a Rode 2 lav mic plugged into it. I am still getting really loud and muffled audio when connected via bluetooth to the Insta 360 Ave pro. I tried recording directly to the Mic 2 internal storage and it is a little better but still not clear. I have ordered the Osmo Action 5 pro as that will allow me to do some more audio adjustments plus the battery life is apparently sensational. Where exactly do you position the Rode Lav mic head? I have tried behind the ear pad and also just above the cheek pad. Is there any way to use the Mic 2 without the lav and fit inside the Neotec 3? Weatherproofing is super important to me so a plug into the camera is not a viable option. Thanks in advance and ride safe!
When I use the Mic 2 I hold it in place on my check with my snood/neck warmer just next to my mouth with the supplied magnet. If I’m using a lav mic I mount it on a small bit of sponge inside the helmet slightly offset from my mouth. Always keeping windshields and dead cats on of course.
@@WheelieGoodTV Thanks Dave! I appreciate the detailed reply. I have a big head so even the XL helmet is a snug fit:-) Is the "snood" Irish for balaclava ? I have a neck gaiter I use to keep my neck warm and free from bugs but that wouldn't work.I have got to keep playing with the lab positioning but will wait to resume my experimentation once I get my new Osmo Action 5 which hopefully will work better with the Mic 2 than the Ace Pro.
Hey sir I have a question for you. I've seen your 1 year old video of telesin nd filter for osmo action 4. I've heard that while shooting in UW black borders appear in the footage. Is it true? Are you still using telesin nds or dji's official ones?
Hi, I still use them along with K&F filters from Amazon. Never had the black borders you mention but have had one of them fly off at high speed as they are only slip on.
@@WheelieGoodTV thank you very much for the reply. I'm from Nepal so the only option for me is telesin ND filters. I guess by high speed you mean a lot , not 80-90 km/hr , which is what I do max.
When mic directly plugged into the camera, Wind noise is coming less. Am I right? Because with DJI mic 2, there is so much wind noise coming into the video.
Though I have found my mic requirements, was wondering on the placement within the neotec of the lav mics that you tested. found this video th-cam.com/video/OZfLFgYtnwE/w-d-xo.html you did, lav mics in sort of the same position ? Loud helmet + loud pipes = clipping for me even at 32 bit recording so wondering if there is a trick here ? I'd go with the Rode 2 from this video , had more sound stage if that is a thing. More wide spectrum of frequencies for me. Though again youtube + nearly 50 year old earholes. Good side by side unsponsored video. TH-cam needs more of this.
Yeah I think a lot of this is subjective so each person will have their own favourite sound. By the way, I’m still experimenting every time I head out!🤣
