Does it speak to baby-bikers/engineers ? Absolutely !
@@raven4k998 True. Motorcycle is a whole different beast to a fighter jet and HUD helmet, although very useful and perhaps even necessary to fighter pilots who have enough time to process that information, is extremely distracting to motorcycle riders who have seconds to make their decisions in traffic surrounded by dozens of objects both moving and stationary at any given time.
@@sephrosemary 100ms or less? 🤣 Who told you that crap? And why the hell do you believe it? Are you 12? Tbh sounds like you are... at least gullible like one. First of all, humans are not even capable of processing information and reacting to it that fast, they're not computers. It's actually somewhere between 200ms and 300ms and that's if they know what they're doing or looking at. Simple and unavoidable fact. Btw we're not talking about muscle memory here, we're talking about HUD information that needs to be understood and processed first. Second, no one in their right mind would put $120+ million aircraft into situations where 100ms decide whether a mission is successful or not, potentially risking losing that aircraft. Regardless of what you've seen in Top Gun. So enough with the kindergarten nonsense, will ya? I've just had my breakfast, I'd like to keep it down. 🤣
This dude is always making videos about things I'll never buy and I watch it every time because it's just so damn well made and informative. Never stop neverstopping Ryan.
Great that you enjoy this quality content. I do ride motorcycles and I have bought several things because he recommends them. But I agree that I watch all his videos regardless.
I almost ordered a HUD helmet and finally decided I wasn’t a skilled enough rider to handle all that input without dying. I’ve never been happier to not be good at something.
@Thomas B LOL. I’ve been riding for ten years. I’m just afraid all the HUD would be too much distraction from the road and surroundings. Built-in Bluetooth is more than enough for me. But, thank you, anyway! 😊
@@SimonWoodburyForget you don't need the ability to turn off your com system immediately, you need the ability to tune it out and focus on what your doing, in a emergency situation where you need full focus you won't have the time to pause your music with any system, so learn to tune it out or keep it off, the first time I rode in the rain I was a hour away from home and because of me focusing I forgot my music was even on until I got home.
exactly, sometimes you have just enough time to percieve and react to a threat but only barely. It takes at least .5 of a second to even process the data and be able to react.
Yep, me again. Couldn't resist making a comment about this little gem that I found on their website. "Riding a motorcycle is a visceral, tactile, cognitive rich experience. As a rider, when you earn the trust and respect of your motorcycle and vice versa, it becomes an extension of your senses, and seemingly your very being." I can definitely state, sadly, that I have never earned the trust or respect of my motorcycle. In fact, despite our many years together I still find it hiding in the corner, shaking with fear, and have to gently coax it with premium grade oil out of the garage before it will allow me to ride. Before anyone asks, no, I have never abused my bike. But I bought it second hand, so who knows what horrors it may have endured at the hands of its first owner. With this in mind, I have arranged for us to see a Suzuki certified therapist. Hopefully, it will prove successful, and neither of us will have to be put down.

You're such a great storyteller/presenter, with great editing, that you managed to keep me glued to the screen, watching something I have no real interest in. That's amazing.
I've got a Forcite MK1S. I live in Sydney not far from the company, and have gone to many of their events over the years before they started production. So I had a fair bit of confidence before shelling out the cash, and I don't regret it. It's a nice riding experience. The info it gives you is just enough to be useful, not too much to be distracting and gimmicky. And even if you don't turn any of the "smart" bits on, you still have a lightweight, comfortable helmet.
A helmet that in the mark 1 gave the majority of owners severe headaches because the helmets don't fit well and cause massive wind noise going over 60km/h and with such terrible speakers that when people replaced them with actually well made speakers then turned on said customers and denied them warranty on helmets for things that weren't related. They lied about when the helmets were being made and then kept changing the designs but sold the product initially as a finished prototype. Don't buy forcite it's all fluff and the current buyers are nothing but guinea pigs to get to final product that might actually be worth the money they keep asking.
@@warmage247 My experience with them has been great, as has that of most other owners I know. Fits great, sounds great, wind noise is decent and product was delivered in the promised time frame with very responsive customer support for any enquiries. If you had a bad experience with them, sorry to hear it, but I'll advocate for them all day long until I have reason not to.
@@warmage247 I know what you mean. I first heard of them when they were trying the angle of a ‘radar detector in your helmet’ and instantly thought “but wouldn’t it take the cops all of 30 seconds to realise they could just give everyone with a forcite helmet a ticket for using a radar detector?” And forgot about them. Then when I went to mention it to someone else a few months later, they’d pivoted the whole thing, and now I see they’ve changed everything again. To me they’re very very startup, and the jury is still out on whether they’re the kind in it for the long haul working through teething problems, or whether they’re just the get investors money and cash out kind
@@Bobby-wn5yr What cops are in your area that can ID a helmet at 60mph? Cops here couldn't tell me what bike I'm on, let alone the helmet. The only scenarios where this plays out is they've already pulled you over, you're sitting beside them in traffic, or they ticket you after you've stopped. The Forcite is not nearly distinct enough to be recognizable in 99% of situations, and that assumes the cop even remembers this is a thing.
@@Gunks_ traffic cops know all the popular bikes … traffic enforcement is their business? Maybe where you are you’ve just got those slow thick cops from the movies that just eat donuts and hate lefties, but here in Aus… yeah you’re not gonna get away with it for long if there’s actual radar detectors in the helmet. Not to mention the cop cars have radar detector-detectors. Probably why that all went away in favour of the actually legal google maps option. But yeah of course traffic stops. I had the initial pleasure and then disappointment of owning Nuviz. Despite being bulky and noisy, it actually worked. It's customer service also worked as I was a to get a replacement after first one stopped working in the rain. It had cold weather issues and the stupid battery door was a pain. But customer service handled issues. The device worked and worked great. The thumb controller provided hands on the bar control without the need to play around with device itself while riding. Fast forward to company failing to secure distribution of units, running out of money and well closing doors. The device continued to work though, issues and all. Until something weird happen and Nuviz would display update required and try to call the mothers hip. As it turns out Nuviz used a proprietary mapping software and when hard programmed license code expired, boom it went. Because of the way it was built, expired license would prevent entire startup rendering all of its features useless.

I bought the first version of the Forcite MK 1 FE and have to say it’s been awesome. Their service is great. The camera takes HD footage that’s certainly good enough for social media, the nav works well - handy for when you don’t want your phone mounted and the speakers are great for listening to music on those long Highway rides. I’ve even taken work calls using MS Teams. I couldn’t go back to a normal helmet.

You're a guinea pig to them and paying double what the helmet is worth. Till they make a final and probably not awful product.
@@warmage247 absolute nonsense. I had a warranty claim on the FE for the strap and they replaced the whole shell. Their service was great. Yes the FE was a prototype helmet - sold at a heavily reduced price. The terms of use was that it was a prototype and we were testing. Everyone knew that. The Mk1S comes with all the improvements from that testing. I have met the CEO many times, Forcite are a social crew… I find your claims hard to believe to say the least.
I had a similar experience with a HUD system that I purchased called eye light. It cost $800 had a one hour battery could not stay connected to my phone for more than 5 minutes and would continuously crash. The best part about it is it did have a two week return policy no questions asked. But overall that product was nothing more than a fancy Android auto device connected to a OLED screen that just barely worked and would really only work when you weren't riding on a motorcycle.
They have a kinda strong marketing and I'm curious about the product. But I did not feel confortable to trust the opinions/reviews I saw, so I'm glad you shared your experience with this sytem!
I have one as well. It's working fine when I'm using it. Emphasis on "when I'm using it". The fact that, as you said, the battery lasts 2 to 3 hours max (for something I mainly wanted to use as an audio kit, that's low), and that the external remote needed to control volume and music tracks can only connect to my phone when I enable wifi, Bluetooth, and location (yeah, the three battery suckers!), makes it that I basically never use it... Totally not worth the 400€ I put into it. Oh, and the fact that it's using Android Auto, as you said, makes my Waze not usable on my phone (to configure my destination, for example) as soon as I connect it to the EyeLights If you wanted a feedback and thought about bying it, just don't. The gadgety HUD navigation is in itself neat in my opinion, but only if you have a powerful battery in your phone and that you don't need to change destination
Before you showed the forcite helmet I was thinking EXACTLY that solution. A peripheral vision based non-blinding "marker" of somekind that just makes you aware of things without being distracting. There's also another serious problem with look-through HUDs and augmented reality that few people outside of niche researchers and bleeding edge gamers are aware of: Simsickness. Building something that your eye can look *through* and cleanly see the world properly is very hard to do, and the slightest miscalculation will lead to migraines and nausea at best.
I lately had the idea of a HUD helmet with rear camera because it's something i desperatly need for higher speeds. I can't see my mirrors anymore when I lay down on my bike and I certainly don't want to put my life into a green LED bar showing me that there isn't a car behind me before a lane change. That is an absolute no go. I have no possibility to be sure the thing is working or just pointing the wrong angle or something. No way to check for a false positive while with a camera view I can atleast see when the system has a problem. It's sad to hear that no manufacturer made it work but it is by no means a non existant problem.
I fell off my chair with Godzilla in the background. FortNine videos are incomparables. Masterly produced, informative and funny. Kudo to the impressive team.
Interesting lesson from Forcite in how to use existing technologies to create something new and useful, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel (or in this case the "helmet"). Another great video!
I am consistently *floored* by the quality of your videos. Digging into business models, supply chains, leaving no stone un-turned. Terrific work as always.
I really like the way the sponsor segment in this video was integrated with the content when compared to the previous two. This felt more like there was a separation between the content and ad, and I really appreciate that. Keep up the great work, always nice to wake up and see a fortnine video!
Great video, I bought a founders edition Forcite Helmet and then bought the new MK1. Huge supporter of this company and now would not wear any other helmet. I thought going from an open face to a full face would be awful, not so, the vision is great with this helmet, it's also comfortable and super light. The camera footage for me is on point. My husband also has a Forcite Helmet and was side swiped by a car on a freeway doing 100km, the footage was given to the insurance company and it showed the car driver at fault. So no black mark against his name and they paid out on the claim. Good outcome as the bike was brand new. Love all the tech this Helmet has and to make things even better, Forcites after sales and customer service is like nothing I have ever experienced, they do this weird thing where when you contact them they actually respond and genuinely want to solve any issues you may have they have nailed it. They are also interested in customer feedback, you talk, they listen. Super proud to be part of the Forcite journey and seeing other riders buying and enjoying this fantastic product.

Despite waiting two years after the promised date when asked for refund due to many issues and wrong size given they denied refund because I had ordered it so long ago. Yet I had only owned it for 2 weeks when I asked for refund.
Love how every concern with buying a smart helmet was brought up, which would primarily be everything that the manufacturer doesn’t put in the user manual or in the sales pitch. It was a good informative video and I enjoyed it
I actually never realised the fighter pilot helmets gave such incredible details and information. It always seemed like Hollywood BS, so I learned something new.
They are also insanely more expensive because of live tracking and relaying the information from about 200+ things. Not because of the display. The answer is a new visor that can project IMO.
Bought a Shoei Neotech your comments are spot on. Negatives are weight and the volume buttons on the Senna Neotech are impossible to use with winter gloves. Love your content.
Gave up on mine after a season. With comms, way too heavy. And you’re right, almost impossible to use the buttons. Switched to a full face with cardo, best decision ever
Wow! Forcite's helmet is really interesting, it always bottered me that I needed to fit an expensive intercom device and a giant heavy camera for such basic functions. I hope they start a trend on smart helmets and eventually become more affordable. I'd definitively buy one if it werent so expensive
I've got a Forcite MK1S. It's a really nice lid, so glad I went with it instead of some of the other offerings out there. It helps that I live walking distance from the company HQ in Sydney, and have been able to go to a lot of their demo events over the years. But I can swear that it's worth looking into.
When the video started, it played a Forcite advert. Which made me double check the video title... interesting conclusion. Might check them out in a year or two when I need a new lid.
I've considered the practicality of building something like that into the top of my windscreen for a while. Depending on how high the windscreen is, it's in view, but not going to block anything in the road.
Another thing: One thing Fortnine didn't point out about the Forcite is the control module that comes with it. The control module is a small bluetooth device that bolts to your handlebars or wherever, and it has tactile buttons to control things like volume, camera on/off, phone calls and a couple others. It works really well, and is a far better solution than trying fumble for these features on a side-mounted device with a gloved hand. Also, while the app is necessary for some functions, you can connect without the app or the module (I sometimes forget to turn it on), but some features are limited. For example, your helmet will connect straight to your phone without the module or app running, and you can still use Google Maps, listen to music, etc.
I sort of feel like Manscaped sponsorships are beneath this channel. But if they did do such, they'd do something hilarious - maybe even top RegularCars' putting it on a snare drum.
The reason the fighter jet HUD requires so much more, is because it matches the view to the environment. Of course, the HTC Vive does a similar kind of coordination between real world and HUD, for less, but my point is that motorcycle helmets don't need to do that in order to make a projection work.
We also have to be completely honest here and say part of why it costs that is a healthy amount of contractor based government gouging. It's also filled with bugs and kinda sucks and this is based on a 2021 report from the airforce that said it found OVER 100 "Mission critical" software bugs in the helmet HUD alone. Not a great track record.
I definitely want to buy a motorcycle sometime in my life, but I'm waiting until actually practical and affordable HUD helmets are available. The whole thing about motorcycles in my opinion is to be as cool as possible, and what could be cooler than having all your instruments and useful information on a heads up display in a helmet?

@@FortNine review the reevu helmet with its rear view mirror built into it by non electronics, it needs a angle adjuster switch so driver can tilt head downward as normally happens on bike for lower center of gravity , areodynamics etc, because not all riders are sitting up with back straight like scooter drivers and the view shows the the view angle as if drivers eyes were looking straight ahead and cannot tilt up and down. maybe taller default vertical view would be more effceint than a angle changing switch which would wear out after many uses. also talk about why hud on helmet and car is so difficult to make work regardless of eviromental light braightness etc... maybe a large hud, tinted for visbility of data during high enviromental lighting such as sunlight.a simplified version of mercedes s class 3D image gps display. lit up by biolumensence with a lens over the lighting to make light red for less strain and more visibility in dark eviroments and better sleep even when artifical lighting charges the biolumensnece when sensor detectes there isnt enough evoirmentla light to do it, less bright moving graphics creating urge to look at screen, biolumen will make it more effceint without half the display being too bright and other part to dark when under changing eviromental light conditions, as can be seen de tomaso p72 gauges and some old school clocks. transparent e ink display also improves effeincy and is less eye straining. alternative to my approach in maintream products is normal screen which requires energy to display things contantly while e ink only uses energy to change image displayed, and mainstream way would need light level sensors and computing power to constantly adjust the display brightness so perfectly. normal e ink display replacing infotaiment, allowsmaller screen accodmating many switches by semi automatic scrolling as is done to pull down the settings bar in i phone, each set of related switches acessed by scrolling thru pages, cheaper and not much more difficult to use than big screen. for personal computer applciation replacing screens in car, at home, tv etc there can be a e ink display in micorsoft surface style laptop except its tinted hud or maybe not tinted, then image of display is projected onto tranparent hud in glasses by lens work and optic fiber... so high graphics is seen despite a low graphics e ink display, as low graphics is the norm at th emoment, full rgb color is there but not very bold lighting and at th emoment it happens at expense of framesPerSecond and graphics, both of which lower the other when increased. ideally, computer is just a reactangle worn in bag somewhat like purism, and display is fully in hud glass.

Different strokes for different folks. Happily in the realm of motorcycles, there's still a choice, but it's diminishing. I don't mind the tech but I had to remove several bikes from consideration for my next bike, because they have always-on built in tracking, or are so computerized you MUST use the dealer for service, etc. It's probably going to push me into buying a used SV650 instead of anything new.

I came here expecting a video teaching me about motorcycle helmets. What I didn't expect was to also learn about manufacturing, marketing, business, electronics, and how to integrate a sponsorship message. Fortnine is a master class on how to do a TH-cam channel properly.
6:50 this is a flawed video. he calls the helmets scams, but he mostly only highlighted the poor business practices of Skully. but what he says at 6:50 is a basic misunderstanding of the purpose of the rear-facing camera: it reduces/eliminates your blind spot so you never have to turn your head around to check, and basically reduces the need to use your mirrors at all. all this keeps your eyes forward on the road. all the tech on the failed helmets are just initial steps. it will take time to develop them properly so they can become more practical and affordable. to call the initial tech a "scam" would be like calling any early tech a scam. it's ignorant.
How could Amercan Optical be the choice of 'fighter pilots' since 1833? 🤔 What were they flying in, balloons? Informative video as usual though. I've been on 2 wheels since 1970 and I still learn something from every one of Ryan's videos. ✌️🇨🇦
7:11 beter question is.. why would you put the battery in the helmet to begin with ...usb that to a phone or a battery pack on your belt or better yet to your bike ...
A smart helmet review popped up today. Took about five minutes to realize it was a waste. Your year old video then popped up. You nailed it. Most are useless but sometimes technology helps. Back to reality: my favorite helmet is a 1966 open face helmet in the red white and blue of Easy Rider. Put a new liner in from my new Gmax OF2 helmet. Comfortable light and fairly small shell. I'm old so my head isn't worth much.
rearview cameras can be a life saving feature. i cannot count the number of times i have seen a video of someone on a motorcycle or scooter being destroyed by a car from behind. motorcycle rearview mirrors have blind spots, and a rider is often looking ahead while stopped at an intersection, getting ready to go and scanning the intersection for cars
I've had my Forcite for a month now and mostly love it. Some sizing issues but that's mostly due to some weight gain between ordering and delivery. Dropping the weight should remove the pressure from my forehead. Stabilization of video can be done in post so all good!

I’ve got the Forcite, founders edition #97. It’s not a perfect helmet, but still the best I’ve owned by a long shot. Sure the camera isn’t as a good as new Go Pro, and the audio takes a bit of adjustment to get the speaker placement right, but the way it’s integrated is beautiful. Super lightweight, really comfy. My only issue is wind noise on the highway, but ear plugs make it manageable. Also keeping in mind the founders edition has the older padding which I believe has been redesigned so you can get a premium option. I haven’t tried the new liner yet but I suspect that will solve my only complaint. The main point is that even ignoring all the tech, it’s still a solid helmet. Adding in the tech makes it exceptional.
I got my MK1S a few months ago, absolutely love it. Yeah, the wind noise isn't as good as I hoped for, but it's not as bad as my previous helmet. So far so good.
@@Alwr400 That may be, but there is also the matter of padding, vents, visor seal, etc. that contribute to noise. Shell construction alone doesn't provide enough info. But fair point, when seeking a new helmet, things like noise aren't things you can test for in a shop, so comparing based on construction isn't a bad place to start. My old one wasn't a premium helmet, but not a cheapo, either. The shell was great and it had a good visor seal, but the padding let it down a bit. I found noise was greatly reduced by wearing a neck gaiter.

He never talked about the SENA on his table. I bought one (I think I paid $800) and it bricked itself on the first update and because customer support took so long I almost missed my return window.
I got into a motorcycle accident on Sept 16th and broke both my arms. Riding gear definitely helps! Im glad I was wearing a helmet and riding jacket. Unfortunately I didn't have a dash cam, so the person who caused the accident didn't stop and just drove away. This channel is always so entertaining. I will be in the market for a new helmet hopefully next summer. Thanks for the info!
I have owned a Forcite MK1 for over a year, maybe 18 months at this point, I have never been happier with a helmet in my 11 years of riding on Sydney roads, honestly it isn't talked about enough, but the cheek pads in particular are honestly amazing, they started off being very pushy on my face, but now even 18 months later, they are still snug, not pushy anymore, but still snug, other high name helmets I have had have felt loose on the face after 6 months
I've actually tried on the Forcite helmet at a pre launch meet in Adelaide, South Oz (that's my z fold phone with their app running in their pictures). I came very close to ordering one, it was very comfortable on my egg head WITH the premium liner and the app seemed to work well. But, they don't yet have a modular option so I went with a neotec instead. Maybe in a few more years a modular will be an option and I would happily cough up the cash.
If your referring to the picture of the video feed on the phone, that is my Fold 3 and my Founders Edition helmet (note the gold logo over the silver, it is even my S1000RR in the video) This was taken on the Customer Ride day here in Sydney where they gave each person the new Media Cable. This can be backed by the video they released from the ride.
I just did a review on the Forcit helmet...I guess I am still on the fence. By far Forcite provides the best integration of a camera, it has good Bluetooth, and the helmet is better than average. As for the smart functionality...I find myself on the fence but leaning towards the exit.
I helped Nuviz with product testing. I though the device definitely had the issues you described but the overall experience wasn’t as bad for me. I had heard they were working on a smaller V2 but it never appeared. I do think that the problem integrated smart helmets is that they’re wear item, they need to be replaced. Having an external unit avoids paying for the same tech when you have a fall and ding your helmet or every X years you upgrade (if the tech is still working). That’s my fundamental concern with integrated smart helmets. What if it doesn’t fit your head? What if you want to get a Shoei? There’s no great solution yet which is why I’ve been staying out of that market until it stops being a scam. Your video doesn’t convince me that a shipped product means that we’re good to go. Love the videos, thanks for making them!
I already find it painful to know my new helmet will be shelved in 5 years. Having a tech package that doubles that cost is a no-go for me. I can move my audio system over, at least. I think a thin rear-mounted electronics pack cabled to a very compact camera on the chin would be the only thing I'm willing to crash with anyway. The problem is you just can't really do 4k video with a lens more than about an inch from the processor, apparently, and any kind of display likely has a similar problem. Nuviz has merit if they manage to make the unit, or the front mounted part of it, a fraction of its current size. I don't see much reason a Garmin watch can fit on my wrist, but the Nuviz has to be the size of plantain.
@@brianhaygood183 I was wondering about this and checked - a cool thing with the Forcite is that if it's time to retire the helmet but the electronics are all still working properly you can send it back to them and they will swap out the shell for a very reasonable price.
@@brianhaygood183 it was the size of a plantain because it costs a lot more to get the thing to be smaller. @rabonour to RyanF9’s point, that’s as long as the company exists. I feel strongly that separate tech is the way to go here and all the external comms and video comms stuff going that way and being that way is my reasoning. The alternate is helmets that have some standard way to add comms or whatever it is but the two main players can’t agree on a connectivity standard let alone a shared integration method. The market for comms is anti-consumer, I’m not convinced the smart helmet “market” is or will be any different.
Thank you for your professional review. I've been exploring motorcycle hud products, skully, Nuviz, Eyelights, Crosshelmet, etc... I don't think any of these products really do heads-up display, more like car play. I can show you the hud glasses I made if you are interested.
Love how they are backed by a shopping providers yet they still trash talk product. This is literary the best way to know that what they are saying is reliable, since they have an incentive to lie to sell more stuff.
I have two helmets. One cost £42 (open face) and the other £ 45 ( full face) . They are comfortable to wear and meet the Uk helmet standards. Now that’s what I call smart! Love your videos; some of the best bike videos on you tube. Keep them coming.
Two things: 1. If Ryan is flogging a product for a sponsor you can bet its is objectively good and worthy of you interest, and 2. Awesome break down of how to assess an investment be it in a product or stocks in a company. Suck it Skully, ya con artists.
If I could have any camera built into my helmet I'd want stereo cams to get 3D stills or videos, because one of the great things about riding a motorcycle through a landscape is the parallax really shows the space in a way a flat photo or video rarely does. A viewmaster or VR view would be awesome and I'd wear a heavier lid to get it.
Great video as usual. On the subject of smart helmets; wow imagine being ripped off by Skully and then reading how they spent the money :-/ I feel sorry for everyone who was ripped off by them
I'm very much morally against scamming people, but in some cases it is just hard to feel sorry for people displaying such poor decision making as to actually buy the thing.
@@brianhaygood183 I get what you're saying and somewhat agree. On the other hand I try to think of how exciting the idea of such a smart helmet was. I can see people wanting it to be real so badly they parted with such a big amount of money. It's easier for us to judge from the sideline when we can not and do not know what people who bought the Skully scam were actually thinking and feeling. I've done some stupid things in the past too in big part due to how I felt about something and at that moment it was worth the risk.
They may be unnecessary for use with a Motorcycle which has a dash to have all the data for you to look down at, but here is why I want a HUD - For use with Electric Unicycles/Monocycles. - Use with Electric Skateboards Neither of these things have a dashboard to display things and you should be wearing a helmet while riding them (higher end ones can go 50+ MPH now....) I would like to be able to see a speedometer as well as navigation (be it streamed from your phone, or the like) on a HUD so that one doesn't need to look at their phone or something else in their hand to get a visual on these things. Rather being able to have my hands free to do something else. A HUD is the perfect thing for this, IF they can make one that works right. So while the companies making them may be a scam (like what you showed with Skully....), I don't think the idea of having one is. YES, I agree that someone on a Motorcycle doesn't need it, but they are not the only ones that use such helmets.
I preordered the Skully (Not via Crowdfunding campaign), at least they had the decency to write a mail they went under. After that Skully was purchased by spanish motorcycle moguls. They just disappeared, without saying a word. Got my 1899$ chardged back via Mastercard.
I used to fly Apache helicopters and we had a Helmet Display Unit (HDU) that attached to the side of the helmet and then we could rotate the display in front of our right eye. The main purpose was to provide a FLIR image that we could look through. It was difficult to get used to, but after awhile, it worked very well. We could also project flight symbology and weapons symbology onto the reticle and during the day we would just use the symbology. An unauthorized, but often used method at night was to use the FLIR image on the right eye while wearing NVGs that covered both eyes. The right eye would only see the FLIR image even though the NVG was also there, and the left eye would see the NVG image.
I feel like you could make the smart helmet thing work if you could run a wire down your back and plug into your battery, and somehow mount the projector on the inside of the helmet so that it shines onto the back of the sunshield. That way it could work night and day and you could remove the weight of the battery.
@@salsamancer F* the smartphone industry for setting this precedent but I hate that we're not even thinking of removable and externally-chargeable batteries like it's not an option.
No. God No. I do not want ot be fiddling with cables running down my back. The Forceite helmet is no bother to charge, it just goes on its charger at the end of a ride, like I would with my phone at the end of the day.
Excellent video. I almost paid for a Skully in 2015, thankfully I didn’t. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a Forcite, went to their factory and tried on a few helmets. Great tech but it’ll be hard to replace my Arai.
Finally - someone who gets it. I spent say half a decade working with engineering companies to work on something like this (HUD for Motorcycle helmets) and all of which came to the same conclusion - We are just not there yet. Even if you implement the latest and greatest - you're still going to have a nightmare to keep maintenance and at a cost of a product no one wants to pay at 1k + avg. We are just not there yet.
That and the real question of what actual problem it solves, what compelling reason there is for it to even exist. I guess there are people, the gadget-geek sort, who will buy "cool" stuff even if it isn't actually useful, but that only works for reasonably cheap stuff.
@@quillmaurer6563 IDK man, people buy a car based on whether it has some shit car play or andorid auto. I would want a communicator if I had riding mates, but I like my helmet to present a clean profile to the wind. I have also stopped using my chin mounted gopro because it messes with the aero, and weight of the helmet. Forcite seems like it solves some of the problems that concern me, but tech gets outdated fast, and I wouldn't want to upgrade to a new helmet just to get a better camera.
I have a Forcite MK1S helmet. Its great, especially the navigaton, clear and concise directions backed up by the greem light. On the rare occasion I might accidentally exceed the speed limit (cough cough) I get an inconspicuous red flash in my peripheral vision but best of all is the "speed camera ahead"" or "red light camera ahead"warnings. The built in wide angle camera is great video quality. As soon as I open the app on my phone, it asks ermission to turn on bluetooth, I turn on nthe helmet and controller mounted on my handlebars and it all connects and Im away. At the end of the trip it gives me a trip summary, including average and max speed so stick that up your nose officer

True.
@@mickeypopa not realy accurate tbh, fighter pilots often have to make important decisions in 100ms or less, but they're trained specifcally to do so
@@sephrosemary
100ms or less? 🤣
Who told you that crap?

"Riding a motorcycle is a visceral, tactile, cognitive rich experience. As a rider, when you earn the trust and respect of your motorcycle and vice versa, it becomes an extension of your senses, and seemingly your very being."
I can definitely state, sadly, that I have never earned the trust or respect of my motorcycle.

Then when I went to mention it to someone else a few months later, they’d pivoted the whole thing, and now I see they’ve changed everything again.

@@tedtheturbot well… DUH!
Oh, and the fact that it's using Android Auto, as you said, makes my Waze not usable on my phone (to configure my destination, for example) as soon as I connect it to the EyeLights
If you wanted a feedback and thought about bying it, just don't.

You're a guinea pig to them and paying double what the helmet is worth. Till they make a final and probably not awful product.
Forcite are happy to oblige customers if you tow their propaganda. If you have a problem with their product they don't want to hear it and fob you off.
I got to wear my founders edition once and realised I made a huge mistake. Despite waiting two years after the promised date when asked for refund due to many issues and wrong size given they denied refund because I had ordered it so long ago. Yet I had only owned it for 2 weeks when I asked for refund.
How's that helmet going now the company has gone dead, no support for app an app no longer works? still the only helmet you wear?
Love how every concern with buying a smart helmet was brought up, which would primarily be everything that the manufacturer doesn’t put in the user manual or in the sales pitch. It was a good informative video and I enjoyed it
I swear i was gonna say "what about the F-35 helmet" and this dude always gets everything spot on. Lol. Never think too soon with this guy.
Still some of the best production on TH-cam hands down. Keep it up forever.
It's about the equivalent of getting a carbon fibre helmet and throwing quality gear on the outside of it and cheaper than some.
I would pay good money to see this channel produce the manscaped ad. Let me know, I have a script you can borrow.

I was thinking the same thing about the sponsored content, but I agree something for Manscaped would be a good laugh. They'll have to get on it.

I sort of feel like Manscaped sponsorships are beneath this channel. But if they did do such, they'd do something hilarious - maybe even top RegularCars' putting it on a snare drum.
I was thinking about the dude counting money behind… like whyyyy…. Ahahahahahahahahaaaa…. 😂😂😂
Although I do wonder what an 1833 fighter pilot would do, I suspect throw things from a hot-air balloon and shoot a pepper-box revolver.
The reason the fighter jet HUD requires so much more, is because it matches the view to the environment. Of course, the HTC Vive does a similar kind of coordination between real world and HUD, for less, but my point is that motorcycle helmets don't need to do that in order to make a projection work.
Yeah a it's gonna be more expensive than 1000, but a good usable visor projection is possible

I fell for this too. Used a French HUD (the name i forgot already) that fits inside most helmets and it only took me 2 rides to realize it was completely useless. I still hope that we get something actually practical one day as i like the idea and mixed reality is being developed all the time. They will nail it one day (if motorcycling is still a thing by then)

Different strokes for different folks. Happily in the realm of motorcycles, there's still a choice, but it's diminishing. this is a flawed video. he calls the helmets scams, but he mostly only highlighted the poor business practices of Skully. but what he says at 6:50 is a basic misunderstanding of the purpose of the rear-facing camera: it reduces/eliminates your blind spot so you never have to turn your head around to check, and basically reduces the need to use your mirrors at all. all this keeps your eyes forward on the road.
all the tech on the failed helmets are just initial steps. it will take time to develop them properly so they can become more practical and affordable. to call the initial tech a "scam" would be like calling any early tech a scam. it's ignorant.

+1 on the AO shades. I've been wearing them since the early '60s (USAF retired here).
rearview cameras can be a life saving feature. i cannot count the number of times i have seen a video of someone on a motorcycle or scooter being destroyed by a car from behind. motorcycle rearview mirrors have blind spots, and a rider is often looking ahead while stopped at an intersection, getting ready to go and scanning the intersection for cars
As a Forcite owner, I'd highly recommend one!
Awesome product & support.

@@dog4mike carbon is thinner for the same or better strength but that makes them a little noisier.

Similar to the Norton motorcycle revival debacle.
They may be unnecessary for use with a Motorcycle which has a dash to have all the data for you to look down at, but here is why I want a HUD
- For use with Electric Unicycles/Monocycles.
- Use with Electric Skateboards
Neither of these things have a dashboard to display things and you should be wearing a helmet while riding them (higher end ones can go 50+ MPH now....)
I would like to be able to see a speedometer as well as navigation (be it streamed from your phone, or the like) on a HUD so that one doesn't need to look at their phone or something else in their hand to get a visual on these things.
Email was more than nuviz gave.

Just bought one to replace my arai. Aria was a great helmet but I don't like their visor locking system and it's wearing out the padding
@@007i1 I tried the Forcite and I thought it was okay, not great. I think I’ll wait to see if they have any updates. They’ve also gone up $300
Finally - someone who gets it.
I enjoy the production and the FX soo much... you guys make beautiful film
What wasn’t mentioned is the only smart helmet worth buying is designed and built in Australia. 👍😎🇦🇺
Shell built by Shoei, but the electronics are assembled into the helmet in Sydney by Aussie. 👍
