I've only had my live for a month and 3.0 seems like sanity by comparison. So much of the old workflow, while powerful, was an artifact of the old 80s/90s machines. Being able to do the whole song in one sequence like, say, my iPad Logic Pro is so much nicer.

You’re showing this the way I wish the older guys would show it. Showing arranger and popping up the piano roll at the bottom while arranger is open at the top seems like such a small thing but it show us younger folk how much 3.0 is like a Daw. (Logic, Ableton, FL) All the older guys miss this in their videos. Even the way you show changing the track from drum program to something else. They show all this info but somehow the pattern they show it is confusing. Because they are still thinking from the perspective of sequences. It’s like they are talking to the old audience telling them what’s new instead of just showing how people coming from a daw would use this. You explain this so well.

People have been complaining so much about v3.4 that they failed to realize that its the same workflow, but they added it visually. You can make sequence by sequence in the arranger, just like normal. My only issue with v3.4 is they have to fix the mutes. Muting samples shouldn't just cut off the sound like someone turned volume off...the sample should play out then mute like it did on v2.15.

Great video Jae, I can see exactly what you mean especially when you bounce to audio and split the audio. I would like the sequence track mutes back because combine that with this and a song is super fast. Make the meat of the song in song mode, each sequence mutes are remembered like it use to be, then to the arranger for linear fine tuning of everything, that would be almost as fast as you can get. You can still covert sequences to a song but each sequences track mutes are not remembered in 3.0 but I hear they are bringing it back.

@@undiablobueno363 I've been producing since 1980 and am a musician that has a full studio full of live instruments. I don't need what some others might. 1 machine doesn't make my ship move or stall.
I also took my first computer courses in 1985 used the vic20, commodore 64, and 128 to make music and started using cakewalk in 1993. My first sampler was the ensoniq mirage keyboard sampler.
Having said all of that, when we were foing hiphop music in the early 80's we had a lot of appreciation for what we could get our hands on, even if it was only a drum machine and a midi keyboard. By standards of today the gear was very expensive. Imagine paying over $3000 for an ensoniq sampler and you make $4.25 an hour.
Times will change, music will only so much, but the reasons ppl use what they do will always very to many degrees. That's why it is called an artform and not a standard.

Does it have a good metering system? No Vu, Spectrum analyzer, so ppl can mix more solidly. That's just one thing and I'm not crapping on what they have done, i really could care less as it doesn't change my ability at all because I'm not a sample(loop based) producer although i do sample myself playing live into tracks.
The sequence of the mpc is already nice, however, what I'm seeing is still clunky imo. Why do all that in the sequencer when most daws have nice blocks of patterns that can easily be dragged. This attempt is commendable for a drum machine but still primitive for a daw.

Good video! I've used both versions of he beta, and have never been the "don't upgrade" guy, but the MPC liberated me from making tracks in a DAW exactly the way you are describing, by copy/pasting parts together while erasing parts as you go.. I now compose/record everything live in track mute mode, and need to be able to have different tracks on every sequence to switch songs while performing - so each sequence contains all the parts of the song. They got rid of this workflow entirely. I like the different track colors, but that's about it. If I want to make music by copy/paste I'd just go back to arranging in Ableton as I already use it with my MPC as a multitrack recorder (not sequencer).

Big issue with MPC 3 not recognizing the hard drive that I installed in my MPC Live. Seems to be a problem across the board with other users. I hope Akai gets this right. Completely worthless to me at this point because all my sound libraries are stored on that drive 😳

Yo, your quick tutorial is on point. I come from a DAW world so I was happy that they integrated some DAW functions in the MPC 3. I noticed after watching your video that my workflow was getting more efficient. I really like the copy functions because I can create a song faster in the arranger with more variety than in "Song Mode". I have a question. In the arranger mode, when I press and hold the "Shift" button, "Set" shows up on the bottom of the screen. What is it used for? Keep up the good work, bruh!

Just got my MPC One Plus Friday. Already making full arrangements. Compared to the first time I bought the MPC (which I ended up getting rid of), I'm making much faster progress on songs. I really didn't like song mode. I'm REALLY hoping they bring back odd time signatures for 3.0, though. That was the reason I got rid of my Akai Force and one of the reasons I wanted an MPC again haha.

also I wonder when you got the section where you were bouncing to audio track and there were no audio tracks. I believe you coulda hit export to audio track and it woulda created an audio track. U didn't have to go out and create one.

If you’re a hobbyist, then yeh 3.0 is fun, but if you actually make and release actual music, it’s still too buggy and unstable. I look forward to it being an RC.

Nice video but I do have a question. I see you are working with a single sequence. As a song writer (versus a beat maker), I use multiple sequences in my productions. I write an intro, verse, Bridge, outro, etc. How do I drop other sequences into the Arranger? Thanks
