I went to a local dealer and they had an XT for sale, never driven one before so I asked to test it. They just throw the key at you and say see you in a bit ! Anyway, wasn’t quite as I expected. I had a Legacy at the time so it felt odd climbing into a higher car for starters. It was quick but firm ride, guess it has to be or you would roll too much. Felt a bit like a dog on a leash, wasnt as relaxing to drive as I thought it would be so I went for an Outback instead, the lower position and comfort was more important that turbo power. Problem is in the UK now its a rip off for petrol. I downsized to an Impreza hatchback to save money, I cant justify mid 20s mpg round town. Probably downsizing again soon, its a joke paying 9 quid a gallon.
Curious why you didn't take it out of Intelligent mode? I currently have a 2015 Forester XT and putting it in Sport or Sport# really makes a difference. I almost never drive mine in Intelligent mode, and haven't really noticed any difference in fuel economy (which would be the main reason to use that mode I would think).
George L I've tested it against Intelligent mode and I get about the same fuel economy either way. I find I like the better throttle response of Sport mode, and since there's really no mpg savings (for me), I'm almost never in Intelligent mode unless I forget to switch it. Also never noticed any jerkiness, unless you're referring to the better throttle response, which I like.
I just wish they would stick some rear air vents on the Forester, Impreza, and Crosstrek for these model years. Only the Outback has them until 2019 when the Forester came aboard. Like come on Subaru, gimme some air vents in the back!
Also can these turbo models come in manual trans? I had an 05 xt auto and loved it, sold it because I got sick of not having a clutch In A subaru with full exhaust. Kinda felt like a poser amongst the car show peeps lol
2008 was the last year of the SG Forester and the last year you could get a manual XT. The SH and SJ both offered manuals for non-turbo models but from 2009 onward XTs have been 4-speed auto (SH) or CVT (SJ).
Hi, Winding Road Magazine! Can you compare for me this Forester XT with BMW X3? What car will you choose? Why will you do this? Which chassis is better on a bad condition road? Is the BMW chassis is harder than FXT on your opinion?
Hey guys could you help me decide on what to get? I'm stuck choosing XT and cx5. I like the cx5 and how much better and more premium it looks, but I wish it had the power from the XT. Which in your opinion has the best handling, performance and interior combo?
I was also choosing between the two. My heart was already set on the CX-5, it's a new design, interior is fresh except for the display, rear vents, and the Skyactiv D is a good engine. BUT...once i got into the driver seat of the forester, i knew this is the one. Yes it's an older design but it was more spacious and all around visibility is excellent. Sitting in the CX-5 I feel cramped especially with that thick middle console. It's more like a Mazda 3 on stilts and not a crossover. Both drive well although the forester is a bit harsher. In the end it really boils down to your preference. Me? I got the Forester.
if you drive only in city work-home-work take cx5. if you like travel by car, drive in all weather conditions and make shore you will drive safe in all ways and doesn't stuck. If you drive car, not car you . Take Forester XT. Sorry for my English)
Having owned both I think the Tiguan is better made and much better loaded for the price. The Forrester was definitely faster but it drove strange too bouncy. The Tiguan is so planted which is good but bad because it’s rough over bumps.
Li Samuel Definitelt drive both. XT has a much faster engine but honestly it felt pretty meh overall and it really wasn’t that great in the snow. If you need winter tires for it to drive okay in the snow what’s the point of having the better AWD? Plus our XT has a ton of issues and the AC never worked right in it. Pretty disappointing overall. My wife drives the Tiguan and she says she likes it a lot better over the XT. Look at the R Line version it looks better IMO
San Sss Yup, which I don’t get why people brag about Subaru’s so much like they are the best out there in snow. Any car with snow tires is gonna be good in the snow like who cares? We’ve owned 3 and not impressed whatsoever in the snow.
I wish this thing had the WRX STI engine in it, The XT is still too slow and takes premium gas. i wish someone would come out with an affordable sport SUV. Maybe the Edge ST will be decent but I cant find anything fast unless I go with a Jeep SRT/Durango SRT and spend $70k
David Austin You do realize pretty much all turbo engines require premium fuel right? The XT is overpriced by a lot just like all Subaru’s. Tiguan 4-motion is the much cheaper car and offers far better bang for buck. Not the fastest but that’s not what they are for.
Question for you.. slow compared to what? A Camaro? Sure, but that’s not what this is competing against. And *cough Mazda’s Turbo engines don’t need premium
I don't understand your gripe... you wish it had the STi engine? What fuel does the STi engine take? Premium! Who needs that engine in the Forester anyway? It's a family compact suv. Anyway, I've been hearing the next Forester will have a 2.5 Turbo in it possibly. Just not the same output as the STi.
David Austin i own an 16 fxt and add on a power package, pretty much a sleeper sti... Like you said if this has an actual sti batch and not just a stupid sti tune batch then you have to consider a price hike. This would def add another 10-15k on top of what it is. So as a buyer why would we not buy an suv lexus or range rover! I think subaru got their game plan right to stay on top of other avg suv market
The 2014-2016 had horrific wind noise. The 2017-2018 installed new acoustic windshield, better sound dampening, and better sealed doors. It's what made me go from 2014 XT to a 2018 XT.
This is the most quiet POV vid. Such a nice car!
After driving older wrxs for so many years it's time for something like this. Still fun and practical. I want one of these so bad!

I have a 2016 XT, Cobb stage 1 tune, Nameless exhaust, CAI. Thing is a little monster, and it is the most secure, and stable car in bad weather.

Probably because it's pretty jerky in Sport mode and uses up a ton of fuel.

@ekim andersom Yeah, no. Much more sensitive in Sport# and sport.
I was just watching one of your videos and then I get a notification!

The XT is very quiet at all times. The tire rim combo does not give much confidence when running over pothole streets ,it is ok but that is all.
