    I’ve only tried Thrive & I’ve used it 4 or 5 times now and have been Extremely Impressed by it! It doesn’t smudge at all and makes my lashes look longer & better than anything I’ve ever used before!

    Yaaaaayyyyy!!!! Thank you for doing this video!!! I haven’t even watched it all the way through yet lol. I’ve loved the Mac one since it was released so many years ago but every time someone does a tubing mascara video they never include the Mac so I never know how the rest compares! Can’t wait to watch!!! 💕💕💕

    I love tubing mascaras and cannot go back to "regular" mascara. The loreal one is my favourite drugstore one. But my hg that I've repurchased a million times is the Clinique lash power. I like the Mac one too tho!

    Thank you for all the info on tubing mascara! I've never tried one (that I'm aware of), but am now tempted!
    The KA was a standout on your lashes, but I also liked the Surratt and VB.

    This is really helpful, thank you. I’ve only used Japanese tubing mascaras, most recently Suqqu. I love it and get a lot of lash with it, which is important as I like long thick lashes.

    As a dry skin but oily eyelid gal who hates eye makeup remover I've tried as many tubing mascaras as I know about-my longtime fave has been the double extend until I heard the l'oreal age perfect (as stated below by Heather it has to say on the package removes easily with warm water) was a tubing-love the brush and the 1 step it has replaced my double extend.

    I've used a tubing mascara on my bottom lashes for 20+ years (CLINIQUE Lash Power). I like that it doesn't flake or leave smudges under my lower lashes but is easy to remove. I like to use a "regular" mascara on my top lashes because it gives me the volume and length I'm looking for. It's also fun trying new mascaras on my top lashes!

    I only wear tubing mascara and have tried a number of them. Clinique makes a good one I would repurchase. I’m currently using the Caliray Come Hell or High Water. For me it’s one of the best and only tubing mascara that gives both volume and length like the non-tubing ones.

    Thanks for this informative video. I totally agree with you about buying a product to remove mascara, I don’t like that either. I don’t want to scrub my eyeballs raw just to get my mascara off. I want it to stay on all day with no smudging or flaking and wash off at the end of my day.

  • @ACottageGirl
    @ACottageGirl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Super helpful! I'm testing tubing mascaras as well.....same as you, don't want to use a separate product to remove it, and find it's still there the next morning. I have only used the Loreal so far...looks great, but not a fan of the big brush. I purchased and will be trying several drugstore brands (No7, the Age perfect washable waterproof, and a cheapie by LA Girl). I really want to give Merit a try as well as it is supposedly the easiest tubing mascara to remove. Thanks for video!

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find they all remove the same - don't even go over with cotton, micellar water - just rinse with water that is warm enough and they fall away like magic!

    • @boomer527
      @boomer527 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Merit is a nice wand and formula but I found it flaked on me and sometimes left slight racoon eye-the L'oreal age perfect has a similar wand to Merit-standard brush

    • @irritableowl1227
      @irritableowl1227 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Merit’s tubing mascara is very good and I recommend it but I do wish it were available in brown. (I think Kackie is the only other brown mascara devotee on here!)

  • @kellie_y
    @kellie_y 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I only buy the Thrive mascara when they do free shipping 😊 The L'oreal Age Perfect waterproof mascara is also a tubing mascara and it's pretty good for the drugstore. I use the Mac GigaBlack as a mascara primer because it separates and coats my lashes perfectly.

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So interesting that you use the MAC as a primer!

  • @rebeccacook5188
    @rebeccacook5188 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the Thrive and Victoria Beckham made your lashes look even and fanned out. The others all seemed to give an obvious mascara look, a bit clumped together sort of. Great video, thank you.

  • @MusicLover-sb7mo
    @MusicLover-sb7mo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Always interesting, Kiki! Cover Girl Professional Mascara had a curved wand and that was my go to product for years. I am lucky, my parents passed down their naturally long, curled lashes but they are light on the ends. I don’t wear waterproof, or a primer and avoid overly wet goopy formulas. One coat is my preference for a soft natural look as well. Multiple coats make them look fake. My lash goal is to not make one of my blessed features look fake. I haven’t tried tubing formulas. L’Oréal mascara options are a plenty and currently enjoy Telescopic because the wand grabs every lash and there is no clumping. I don’t think I am interested in the L’Oréal Double Extend as I don’t want to mess with primer. Too many steps. Lol.

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree on primer...maybe I'm lazy!

  • @debcollins8231
    @debcollins8231 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good God. I have never heard of, "tubing" mascara until now. I have been out of commission for awhile, and thought a new type of mascara had just been invented. I am shocked this is new to me because mascara has always been a struggle, except for a brief period of time I was on glaucoma drops until surgery. I finally thought I figured it out...one layer of Milk's Kush Primer (very heavy duty stuff) which does most of the work, and recently the MAC Stack on top and Maybelline's Sky High on lower lashes because that brush is perfect for mine. I do not want hugely thick/long lashes and like a more natural look. I liked the VB on you the most but, Surratt is a very close second. I do remember trying L'oreal's with the Primer and it did nothing for me. I seriously need to try tubing mascara. The brush looks ideal for getting at the lash roots. Thank you so much for explaining the difference.

  • @ladyasaid

    The first tubing mascara I ever heard of was from the brand Blinc. Brand also made a great eyebrow mousse. Sephora used to carry the brand.
    Hourglass makes a good tubing mascara. It’s called Unlocked. I like it.
    Now to listen and hear about your recommendations.

      I remember getting a sample of the Hourglass, but that's one of those mascaras where I didn't know it was tubing. I was kinda "meh" on it.

    Dear fellow hooded lid gal, thank you for such a helpful video!
    I've also discovered tubing mascaras thanks to Lisa Eldridge. DHC was the first one I've tried. Unfortunately, it smudged on me (not as much as regular mascaras, but the smudging was definitely there). Then I've tried the Kevyn Aucoin ones (Volume and Curl), but both flaked horribly. The Hourglass Unlocked is the one I've been using pretty much since it launched. It doesn't smudge, it flakes a bit, but the least out of all the ones I've tried.
    Next on my list to try is Clinique High Impact and the Victoria Beckham one if it ever gets in stock on European online retailers.

    I have used Thrive for a long time. I don't buy any of their other makeup/products, but I always just buy two mascaras at a time to get free shipping. They do also have promotions at times with free shipping on any order. I have tried other mascaras and I always go back to Thrive. I have allergies and for years had quite oily skin so this type of mascara was a must! I actually do use a primer with it - Lash Food. I have quite fine, thin lashes and that helps with volume. Thanks for the video! By the way - you sure do make blue eyeshadow look great!

  • @ragtagsam

    Great video! Just as my search for the perfect black pants, the hunt for the holy grail of mascara is neverending. Personally, I prefer the look of tubing mascara and I prefer a small brush. Have you tried Trish McEvoy's High Volume Tubular Mascara? If you haven't, I suggest you give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by it. Her mascara, along with her eyeshadow base, are two of my favorite products. Now if I could just find an eyeshadow palette I love...

    I think you would like Lancome Hypnose mascara in shade Brun Hypnotic.
    Very buildable lovely mascara and a less stark shade than black. Max Factor False Lash Effect is excellent in shade black/ brown too. It really separates the lashes for a feathery finish. I use a ×4 little round magnifying mirror now to apply my mascara, you can really see each lash to seperate...
    Some people say its clumpy but it's how you apply it..I have read it can help to run a tissue over the wand lightly to remove excess product X Sarah in U.K

    I was so curious to see your feelings on the tubers you have...
    *My #1 is the Victoria Beckham. That mascara is the bomb! (And, I think it looked the best on you.)* My #2 is Surratt. It gives a slightly lighter/fluffy and longer (fibers) look. The only drawback is on occasion you might see a loose fiber, but they are easy enough to swipe off. Kevin Aucoin is good, but I find the product doesn't last long (dries out). I've tried a few others: Hourglass (hated it), Blinc (liked, but it's been a while, I want to revisit), Caliray (OK, but hard to remove), Maybelline Snapscara (meh).
    I want to try: L'Oreal Age Perfect (apparently hard to find), Merit, No.7, and DHC (which I think I might have tried eons ago, but I'm not sure) .

    I always struggled with mascara. I tried so many different ones for years, from Maybelline to Elizabeth Arden and everything in between and I can honestly say none of them really worked for me. A couple of years ago I discovered a Japanese brand called Kissme Heroine (unusual name) and it was like a revelation. It is bulletproof and does not clump. It does require a lot of effort to get it off, but I can live with that!

      I was tempted to try that one. I’ll have to soon.
      They make a remover that I’ve heard is good (especially for their mascara). It’s in a tube and applies like mascara.

    Thanks so much for doing this. I have to wear tubing mascara as I have very sensitive eyes and Meibomian glands dysfunction - which means I can't tightline or have any mascara left on my eyelids which would exacerbate the condition. I reach for tubing because I can easily get if all off. I have been using Thrive for a while but have recently been looking for more options and didn't realize all of these existed. I will be checking this out and thinkt he VB and Surratt were clear winners on you!

    • @AllyKit
      @AllyKit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same! It is so bad to tightline if you have sensitive eyes. My eye doctor said that is a big no-no as it can block the oil glands and therefore cause dry eye or even styes. Not worth it. I will have to try some of these. The only one I have is MAC Gigablack and I only wear it on the bottom lashes.

    Mascara is so personal --- e.g. what works for one doesn't always work for others. I"ve used the L'Oral Double Extend for years but do wish it gave a bit more volume. When I want more volume, I use Cover Girl Super Stay waterproof as a primer then the L'Oreal over that, to help get rid of the end of the day raccoon eyes. Helps with the wear of the non-tubing mascara. I"ve tried Thrive and I know so many people love it but it flakes on me, horribly. I ended up tossing it after a while. Looking to try some others!

    Oh SAME! I do not like mascara 🙈 I just seem to have a face where mascara runs off after half a day if that! I also don't seem to be able to remove it all, so my eyes just always appear darker & tired & I've probably not worn mascara for over 10 years which I know sounds crazy. But, as I'm entering my second youth (my slightly later mid-life-crisis) I'd actually like to start wearing it again & hopefully as I've missed out years of new developments, I am here for newer formulas that might not be so difficult to wear. Thank you for sharing this 😊

    I can only wear tubing mascaras. Non-tubing mascaras always smudge on me even if they don't on anyone else. My ride or die right now is the Victoria Beckham. It gives me a perfectly natural lash look, which is my goal. I do like the Rare Beauty tubing mascara. I got a mini to try out after hearing good reviews. I really like it, but the brush is huge and I don't like that. It is a great mascara though.

    I was hoping you'd talk a bit more about removal. I find that the removal of Thrive's mascara is much cleaner than when I remove the VBB one, for example. I did not know that the Surratt one was a "tubing" mascara; I do love their Lash Noir one (it's not a tubing formula but OMG it stays all day!).

    • @TheHoodedLid

      For me, they all come off well. The water must be warmer for them tho - so after I wash the face, I turn up the heat a bit and just splash my eyes several times - maybe 6 or 7 times.
