When the top bearing fails, pieces fall onto the larger middle bearing causing it to fail too. Once disassembled to the point of this video, it's not too much harder to remove the steering column and disassemble the column on the bench. Remove the two Torx screws where the tilt pivot point is. Now work the two parts apart, by opening the two spring loaded tilt locking bars. Once separated, the ignition switch linkage will prevent complete removal. Carefully remove a plastic (mine is green) retainer inside the lock cylinder hole with a dental pick, and the ignition linkage will separate at the lock cylinder. Replace bearings 3517A (top) and 3517C (middle), inner race 3L539, and spring centering bushing 3518. Since the tilt column is spring loaded, I used a vice grip finger clamp to help squeeze the two pieces together allowing the Torx bolts to align with it's hole. I used a assistant to hold the column for this part of the assembly. I installed the 3520 spring and circlip on the bench, using a 4" piece of 3/4" PVC pipe and a hammer. It is easier to install the column back on the PU than it was removing it. This video helps too: th-cam.com/video/uqvR6sf91nI/w-d-xo.html

To fix this problem purchase a bearing F4DZ-3517-A and a ring kit F0DZ-3L359-F. The instructions in the ring kit are simple enough for anyone to follow. The tools can be "rented" (really borrowed because you get your deposit back upon return) from O O'Reilly/AutoZone etc.... Simple hand tools and about an hours work. Buy the ring kit first and read the instructions so that you know what tools you're going to need.

Hi Jamie, i would recomend removing the whole steering colum and going over all the bearings in it. Its actually not to hard to do. There are 4 bolts under the plastic covering the bottem of the dash. Once those are off there is one bolt holding the u-joint from the steering colum to the steering shaft that runs through the fire wall. Next disconect all the harness connectors on the steering colum and your done. You can now bring the whole colum over to a work bench and check all bearings in it or replace it completely.
