Thanks for taking your time showing us how to take those columns apart and back together. I've had them apart before but didn't take the whole assembly apart because of bearings were still good when I did my last one but thanks a lot they are a little tricky appreciate you showing us how it's done. All the best from Canada
I broke the steering column on my 80 Chevy pickup by doing the same thing. Using the steering wheel to pull myself up into the truck. Steering columns are not designed to support a persons weight, but there is no handle to use. Just a bad design. I learned about steering columns the hard way. There are also special tools required to disassemble and assemble them. Not a fun job. Thank you for sharing!
👍👌👏 again and as always. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
Thanks for posting this JC. I need to do this on my mustang before I get it back on the road. A former dealer tech friend said those weren’t serviceable, I figured otherwise but never looked into it.
I can understand the trand toward pushbutton start in most cars today. I have it now and with the dial transmission (car) it is not normal. I still reach for the gear lever.
So, I replaced the upper bearing and it fixed the play in the wheel for about a month. I think the lower bearing is worn now. Where did you get the larger bearing that sits at the lower end of the shaft?
Hopefully I never have to do that job on my Powerstroke, but it’s good to know it’s not that difficult if you have the right tools and know how. I don’t think you could get a better starting Powerstroke though J.C. Sounds like it starts up with just one revolution. Pretty cool truck👍
that truck has always started like that. high pressure oil system is on point! 222k miles with no injectors, o rings, ipr, icp or any other engine repair. good clean oil, good filters and good service intervals.
Great video, im watching bc my lock cylinder is lose even with a new one installed. Truck will start with key but wont shut off. Like the key doesn't click into each mode. The gears on the end of the cylinder are fine. Thinking it might be the long rod you talked about that the cylinder rides up and down on or something in the housing itself. Anyone will tips please let me know thx!
Thats a sought after truck I don't know what he paid for it 10 years ago but I bet you he could double his money on it now. I see a lot of guys around me always on the hunt for older diesel clean and decent price they buy them jack up the price and eventually sell them . Moral of the story is new trucks are sweet when they work but anybody who can't take that risk buys an older one
Is this something Justin isn’t comfortable working on or more of a helpful content video? I keep thinking with all the videos you’ve made finishing something the boy started you might want to convince him to buy a vehicle with fewer problems. Enjoy the video as always JC.
justin is a friend of mine. brandon is my son. you wont ever learn if you dont try. he tried, he needed my help. that is a dad's job. you give them the confidence to try it all and the sense to know when to ask for help. i couldnt ask for anything better.
Those bearings are probably what broke in my '93 years ago when I was driving it with no power steering ( ended up being the gearbox) but I swapped in a junkyard column. Mine was tilt and the one I bought wasn't but was easy to covert using a cpl parts from the old column ! Another great video 👍👍
Glad I found your video, exactly what has happened to my truck. Now I know the fix. Thanks for sharing.

Great video J.C.Smith thanks for sharing how to fix a lose column on this Ford pickup. Looking forward to your next video stay safe J.C.Smith.
Lol- "don't be intimidated, it's not that big of deal." After practically reassembling a mechanical watch on camera with one hand filming 😂😂
👍👌👏 Exactly!😁😁😁
Thank you showing the tilt collum repair. Truck starts quickly and runs well
Thank you for showing us how to do this. I had a bronco that the wheel was wobbly. I ended up pulling a column from the junkyard.
Thanks for posting this JC.

Great explanation video thank you for sharing and taking the time to do this video
Did plenty of them when i was working for a courier outfit.Common Ford problem.
That ought to help some folks out, I like the cable ties tip.

Nice work J.C 🔧🔩 That spring looks like a pain but you made it look easy. Have a great weekend

instead of tilt wheel in the south we called them wobble wheel
Will this actually lead to the wheel or column falling completely off? Mine is insanely loose and luckily I sourced a whole assembly
Can you please share a link to the exact parts you got? Im having a hard time finding the right ones.
Where does that buzzer wire actually connect to?? I took my column loose and can't remember where to place it
Where can you get the bearings I can't find them anywhere
What is a clock spring, and does that truck have one?
This helped so much. Thank you
Can u tell me the part number for that kit plz I have a 96 f350 been needing this done for a long time great video
you can get it from ford dealer with your vin.

That was nice to know , how to do …
Awesome. Thank you.
just curious, guessing it also fell victim to the peterbuilt saga, what happened with the f350 build/rebuild you and him were both working on?
he is only home 1 sometimes two days a week. not a lot of time to put into the truck. he makes progress here and there.
How did you remove the Cancelling cam
What is the part number for that kit?
Did it sway to one side , my steering wheel sways left
About how long did this take you?
I still think I was happier throwing that switch away using a master and slave and forget the rest
Is this something Justin isn’t comfortable working on or more of a helpful content video?

After all that and you forgot to add blinker fluid.
i took it all apart looking for the reservoir....never could find it.
