This video is the first time outside of being a military mechanic where I’ve heard the proper way to disconnect and reconnect a battery. Good on ya Chris! Remember, red socks and black shoes, socks go on first, then shoes (connecting) and you take your shoes off before your socks (disconnecting)
For those wondering, this does not apply to all OBS trucks. My 97 f250 HD manual transmission non-airbag non-tilt powerstroke calls for an almost completely different method for steering wheel removal. Just saying for those who are confused.
How about a video, digging deeper into the steering column. Every time it gets cold here in AZ, my ignition sticks. Ive replaced the cylinder a couple times and had to take it to the dealership because the plastic slide broke, that connects cylinder to ignition switch.
What’s your opinion on these old airbags? With all the issues in the past of the Takata airbags deteriorating and becoming dangerous, it makes me worry about the aging 25 year old airbag in my 96 F150. Good video as always
I called local fire department. They were no help. Lately when I scrap a parts truck I simply place it in the vehicle and inform the tow truck operator. You make a good point about aging. I’ll do some research.
Whats the name for that brown plastic piece thats by the key ignition switch? It retains a single black wire. I believe the wire tells truck key is in the ignition?
I am having the hardest time finding a replacement steering wheel for my 95 Bronco. During transport the airbag went off. Any recommendations on a replacement or should I just replace the airbag component?
I have airbag modules all over the place. I actually have trouble disposing of them. You should be able to find one at most junkyards. Removing the module is fairly simple.
My 97 Ford OBS steering wheel squeaks when I turn the wheel. The squeak is coming from behind the steering wheel where it meets the column. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Hey brotha , my steering Column actuator to my 96 f-150 seems like it broke (turns on but won’t turn off when I turn the key ) do you have any knowledge with this ? And if so would it be easier to just replace the whole column instead of taking mine apart . Thanks in advance !
At the base of your steering column above the universal joint, there should be three gold colored screws. Tighten those. T20 or T25. I bet they are loose.
Odd question for ya but maybe you’ll know.. Is there a particular wire in the steering column that would make the alternator not send a charge to the battery if it was loose? I’ve had all the obvious stuff checked and they’re good but since I had a shop do work on the column the alternator seems to go in and out of charging the battery when running. When I push up on the steering wheel on the tilt or fidget with the turn signal or shifter and I notice the the gauge jump like it’s working then not. It seemed to hold on when I pressed the wheel to the top of the tilt range as of it pinched something into place and connects a charge. I’ve chased everything else so far that I know of but this might be it i hope. 🤞
@@BroncosandPartsGarage ‘96. Moved to a new state and the steering column needed work to pass inspection because it was probably all original. Had it for about a year and a half before that with not a single issue. Thank you very much for even responding to this.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage No the cluster hasn’t been touched since I’ve had it (that I know). It had been just fine until this steering column job, which really needed to be done because the steering was a bit sloppy. Then, for the first time, I was driving and the gauges all dropped dead and the engine ran like like shit for a minute then died not far from home. Jumped it and got it home. Took it back to the shop, they checked for loose wires etc. and “didn’t find an issue”. Since then I became one with Google to at least find a path to get it fixed. I didn’t go nuts but I ran all the multimeter draw tests and checked any connection to be sure they were tight, had battery checked,
My controls wont work on 95 f150. I got it apart. W/O puncturing the wires i tested wire's and the horn honked,, but no power. Black goses to all. Purple to horn and on/off, swtich. Blue gose only to curse controls.
So I’m retro fitting a 2004 Ford F-150 steering wheel on my 1995 Ford F-150 and I have a couple questions about the wires on the airbags and if they’re the same for the following years on every bag. I was wondering if anyone knew what color the wire is on the airbag itself for the horn, that way I have the press functionality of the horn, but at the same time I don’t want the airbag to set off. Please help!!! I can run a wire straight the horn wire itself so that when I press the airbag, it sets the ground for the horn. I just don’t want to confuse it and the airbag off instead of the horn

Yes, you pop your horn plate off. Disconnect harness, lol, then same. It’s actually waaaaay easier. Lol

Interesting. I’ve never had that happen. I’ll look into it. Thx
Chris, is this step the same for my 1991?
Sadly, no. Slightly similar but indicator linkage is different. And mounting points
Just what I needed to know!
Glad it helped!!

Anything new on this? Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to
Replace the whole steering column
It’s in the works.

Don’t know the name but I bypass mine!

Hi, do You know how to remove steering wheel in Bronco 87?? Help me please😉
I’ll assume your joking. lol. But if not, do the same thing I did. Lol
What do I need to replace because my tilt is loose?. When I get in and pull on the wheel it drops down 2 slots each time.. Pisses me off!!
I’ve never tore apart the “body” of the column. We just sell and swap em.

If the wheel wiggles a little bit in your hands, it’s probably the main bearing. Not to bad to replace and under $10
@@BroncosandPartsGarage You're awesome for answering me so quick. Thank you! Following you.
@bearoso4770 Were you able to wiggle the wheel off on your '97 without a puller? It's the only part for the job I dont have.

A new key cylinder is about $22 on Amazon or any auto parts store. Sometimes they just corrode out because it’s cheap pot metal
@@BroncosandPartsGarage i replaced that and the switch underneath seems like the actuator is the problem

Did you swap your cluster at any time? 96 have a charge circuit that earlier don’t have. Highly unlikely, but could be a bad voltage gauge

That’s odd. I’ll ask around. I’m stumped.
I replaced steering box last year got it alligned at shop they are telling me they cant get steering wheel straight
Steering wheel is not adjustable like older cars. Check alignment

So you don’t need a puller now I’m gonna try to order a good leather wheel

Check fuse or bad clock spring
