Was on an official government trip to Tacoma, WA and Def Leppard was staying in our hotel while on this tour. I ended up on the elevator with Joe Elliot and Phil Collen, we had some small talk, and they ended up giving us back stage passes to their concert that night at the Tacoma Dome. They were awesome, and the most down to earth "rock stars" you could ever meet. Cheers!

It's weird bc I was born in the late 80's and my dad always played this music. I always have a sense of nostalgia whenever I hear any of these songs... Even when I first listened to the songs when I was a kid... It just has a nostalgic vibe to it.
I was going to say the same thing - Lex what you're saying is so true. I graduated high school in 1983. And this album of Def Leppard "Hysteria" was great music. It came out in 1987. This video maybe in '88. It was their 5th or 6th single from that album and it shot album sales through the roof. But I am getting off point. I just turned 57 this month. I was 23 and 24 in '87 &'88. I was at one of these concerts. It was called "Theater in the Round" because the stage was set up in the middle of the arena. Like where a NBA basketball game is played. Usually the stage would be at one end. This time they put it in the middle. It was crazy. This video is of them setting up and in concert. I loved this time. Nearly all the 80's. "I see them perpetually young." Inside we are Lex! And Def Leppard stills plays concerts. We all look older but we feel young. Especially when we listen to this music. "It stays with you. It feels like that era lives within many people that we come across everyday." Lex you said it! And I knew exactly what you meant because for me and I know a lot of my friends understand exactly what you're saying. It is a part of me, of many of us that lived and loved in that era! It's like an old girlfriend. She will always have a piece in my heart. Only bigger. I don't dress that way anymore. I don't have very long hair anymore. But in my heart and being, that time, that era as you called it does live within me. I still listen to Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Journey, Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Eagles, Triumph, REO Speedwagon, Guns N' Roses, and many more. When you mentioned it's a vibe that sticks with you, definitely. I'm 42 and I still jam to my 80s rock, including Def Leppard all the time. My kids even listen to my music and love it. I to this day prefer rock from the 80s over any other era, with the 70s rock in a close second place.
Those songs are great but they are not even the best of Def Leppard. In my opinion their best album is High N Dry. Every song on that album is a banger

This was 1988 Joe Elliot the lead singer and Brian from Queen are Best Friends. This was the first tour after the drummer Rick Allen last his left arm in a car crash, left arm was severed off. This happened in 1984 and they gave him time to rehab and he built a new drum kit, Queen was starting to use electric drum pads. The live video of this song, it’s call in the round and in your. Amazing It’s a round stage and the drummer is on his own round and he spins. color me jealous. It's one of the few concerts I missed out on looking back that I wish I would have been able to go to. I was still in high school, and my mother was pretty restrictive on those things. My first concert (that wasn't a family event) wasn't until 1991 and by that time I had missed the 80s hair bands that shaped my high school years.

We had great music, clothes, and friendships that required being face to face. This was a live version on his 1978 "Running on Empty" album that was amazing and deserves the credibility to be right up there with other greats like McCartney's - Maybe I'm Amazed, Bob Seger's - Turn the Page, and Don McLean's - American Pie.

They did things the reverse way around. They're and english band but were massive in the US and Canada yet relatively unknown over here. A few years ago they toured with Motley Crue, in the US Motley Crue headlined but in the UK they switched and Motley Crue (my favourite band btw) supported Def Leppard. In the mid to late 80's these two bands were the biggest bands in America!
They'd put out an album or two (I think a lot of us in that place and time bought that first album) and were on top of the world...and their drummer lost his arm. Did they go on without him? No. They waited I think was 2 or 3 years (longer than some music careers) during the height of their career...something that might not ever come again...until he could play drums with one arm. Now that is a class act. How many bands would do that and be able to come back from it?

The 80's music. Many a 1 hit wonders yet... The bands had great singers. It wasn't about looking pretty, it was about the Voice that made 80's music stand out for me (I'm 53). Music became more about image than musical talent as the decades rolled on. I'm glad you're enjoying this awesome band! The older High and Dry album has a more hard rock edge to it and Pyromania album was THE album that caught the worlds attention.
Def Leppard is the greatest band ever . Their Hysteria album is the 3rd album in the history of music to have all the songs a #1 hit . Something The Beatles , Led Zeppelin , Pink Floyd & The Who have never done & Rick Allen is the best drummer ever . He was killing it with Def Leppard when he joined the band at the age of 15 . When he had both of his arms & he's still killing it with one arm now a days with the band .
The 80's ended in like 1992. It always takes a few extra years for a decade to realize it's over. Just like 1981 songs still had that 70's sound. So the early early nineties had some eighties about it :) This 1988 is definately 80's sounding :)

I was in my 20s n in a rock band...yes it's a vibe and an era...we had fun. It's a feeling that stays w ya...other ppl really don't understand...the music was great n the chicks were hot n dressed sexy...and they seemed more liberated n aggressive about what they wanted.

THis album was so weird. I loved it and was listening to it working out in my garage for like 6 months or more, and no one else was listening to it, and I had no idea why. Then it just blew up.
After his car wreck while still in the hospital bed , he came up with the " use the left foot as his arm " idea . And weeks later with the help of RUSH drummer and drum maker Neil Peart , he was playing a proto type of the drum kit in rehab.

They seem a cut above a “Hair Band”… Would you call VH a “ Hair Band”? ..Poison?…they are from PA.I think Motley Crue, Ratt, Britney Fox, Kix,…you kinda know them when you see them… 80s cheese Metal…I loved it back in the day, but there is not much I still listen to. I guess all metal / rock acts in the 80s had long hair, but that does not mean they are a “Hair Band”
Def Leppard was (still is) one of my all-time fav bands! You should definitely check out the rest of their music. (Lots of rock, but some great ballads, too, like Love Bites.) I still remember when this song was brand new. And yes, Lex, it's an Era. That vibe is always in our hearts and our minds. Thanks for the reaction!
The boys from Sheffield can really rock! Def Leppard was my favorite band in 1983 when Pyromania came out. Saw them in concert then and have loved them ever since.

I turned 20 in 1980, and Lex you describe it so spot-on. The best part of watching your reactions is going back and feeling that youth again. We had great music, clothes, and friendships that required being face to face. You're descriptions of how it makes you feel needs not be explained to me because you're perfectly describing how as a 61 year old from that time period, feels inside, reliving these moments.

Lex is correct, I was out clubbing in the 80's, I met my wife in 89 and when we hear this music we are transported right back to the first time we heard these songs. it's like for an instant we haven't age a minute. The energy in 80's music was awesome

They did things the reverse way around. They're and english band but were massive in the US and Canada yet relatively unknown over here. A few years ago they toured with Motley Crue, in the US Motley Crue headlined but in the UK they switched and Motley Crue (my favourite band btw) supported Def Leppard. In the mid to late 80's these two bands were the biggest bands in America!
Watched the You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette video, then Lex is like, "I used to really like Full House" in this video.
They'd put out an album or two (I think a lot of us in that place and time bought that first album) and were on top of the world...and their drummer lost his arm. Did they go on without him? No. They waited I think was 2 or 3 years (longer than some music careers) during the height of their career...something that might not ever come again...until he could play drums with one arm. Now that is a class act. How many bands would do that and be able to come back from it?
Exactly Lex! That's how everyone sees or wants to *feel* themselves when they look in the mirror. Our youthful, free selves. And that's why you see us 55 year-old farts paying $100s to see Journey or The Scorpions at our local casino!
Gotta be careful admitting you recognize this song, Brad. Because this song and "Cherry Pie" by Warrant have become staples in strip clubs for the last 30 or so years.
its also a staplepoint in sports arena. Brad used to play football. It's likely he heard it during pre game warmups or halftime hype for the fans.

The 80's music. Many a 1 hit wonders yet... The bands had great singers. It wasn't about looking pretty, it was about the Voice that made 80's music stand out for me (I'm 53). Music became more about image than musical talent as the decades rolled on. I'm glad you're enjoying this awesome band! The older High and Dry album has a more hard rock edge to it and Pyromania album was THE album that caught the worlds attention.

Def Leppard is the greatest band ever . Their Hysteria album is the 3rd album in the history of music to have all the songs a #1 hit . Something The Beatles , Led Zeppelin , Pink Floyd & The Who have never done & Rick Allen is the best drummer ever . He was killing it with Def Leppard when he joined the band at the age of 15 . When he had both of his arms & he's still killing it with one arm now a days with the band .

The 80's ended in like 1992. It always takes a few extra years for a decade to realize it's over. Just like 1981 songs still had that 70's sound. So the early early nineties had some eighties about it :) This 1988 is definately 80's sounding :)

I was in my 20s n in a rock band...yes it's a vibe and an era...we had fun. It's a feeling that stays w ya...other ppl really don't understand...the music was great n the chicks were hot n dressed sexy...and they seemed more liberated n aggressive about what they wanted.
I have seen Def Leppard live and I still remember my buddy coming up to me in High School and saying "You have to check these guys out, they are our age!". BTW it was a cassette lol. Their first two albums are really good and hard for the most part. Check out "Let it Go" next. Enjoy your reactions.
THis album was so weird. I loved it and was listening to it working out in my garage for like 6 months or more, and no one else was listening to it, and I had no idea why. Then it just blew up.

After his car wreck while still in the hospital bed , he came up with the " use the left foot as his arm " idea . And weeks later with the help of RUSH drummer and drum maker Neil Peart , he was playing a proto type of the drum kit in rehab.
