The drummer is Rick Allen. He lost his arm in a car accident on New Year’s Eve in 1984. (They tried to reattach it but that failed.) Before he was even out of the hospital though, he had them bringing in his drums so he could start relearning how to play, and of course he’s also created his own specific drum kit to suit him. He was back touring with them and in the studio again by ‘86! He has a charitable foundation and has done a lot of work including regular workshops to help veterans and others in crisis, often through music.
When DL went back on tour, they had Rick and another drummer to back him up. When he heard Rick play the new kit, he said, “You don’t need me” and quit. And so it goes.
@@landshark7730 well, the full story behind that was that, as a warmup, they'd had the 2nd drummer on hand on the chance that Rick would miss a beat during his performance onstage He'd missed the bus to one gig and by the time he had made it to the show, the band was already midway through the concert when he'd, very sheepishly, snuck onto his drum kit and joined in, and none of the other band members realized that he wasn't there After the show, the 2nd drummer had told Rick, "Well, it's been great, but I think you can handle this on your own"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️ No not really..he's ok. He might only have one arm but when I think of some of the G.O.A.T. like Danny Carey, Neil Peart, Keith Moon and Bonham they could've been phenomenal with 1 arm. Lucky for everyone though they had 2 to show off some serious skills.
Def Leppard. Are one of those bands. You go see their show, and you feel the whole venue get a simultaneous lift. Within four bars of the first song. Absolutely magic.
Yup, they wouldn’t let him quit the band, or rather to quit on himself really. He credits them for helping him get his life back on track when he was about to go on a downward spiral. They’re truly brothers.

You should see Joe Elliot's speech when Def Leppard got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When Joe mentioned drummer Rick Allen's accident, and the love they all felt for him, the entire audience got to their feet. Rick was in tears at the love he was shown. It was so electric. They are a true class act, and I consider myself priveledged to have grown up in high school listening to their music and making a fool of myself on the high school gym dance floor when the deejay played, "Pour Some Sugar on Me". I'd love to relive just one of those days.
Long story: I was 17 when this came out, cruising with my friends on a Saturday night, listening to it repeatedly. The driver (not DUI) lost control on a back country road, and the car flipped multiple times. I was ejected and the car rolled over the top of me. I was flown by helicopter to a university trauma center an hour away where I spent 6 weeks recovering from critical injuries which included numerous broken bones, a severed kidney, and a broken back. I spent many nights in my hospital room alone during that month and a half, and one of the few 24-hour channels back then was MTV. It was also All music videos back then, and this song was at #1 and seemed to be playing all the time. It was very hard to come face-to-face with my own mortality at age 17 - you think you're going to live forever! - and this song helped get me through. This is my anthem of survival and perseverance, my determination to learn to walk again. To this day, when it comes on the radio, I crank it and let it sing to my soul about the need to rise above life's obstacles.
I remember when this song was played like 2 or 3 times an hour on MTV, when the "M" stood for Music, not Media, lol. Those were the days, apart from your accident I mean.
Wow. That's resonant. I have a friend who had that happen, in High School, when this song was _everything_ and everyone wore those pants. I think they told her mother she might not make it to the hospital. Then that she wouldn't walk. But like a boss she made a full recovery (can run) and has been employed as a physical therapist for years now. MTV was how I found out Def Leppard had a one armed drummer so I always loved that band even more. Now the "M" stands for...media? Mindless? Is it even still a channel? Curious, did you post the entire story the first time you posted? Did you add more detail to an initial post? Sorry, I just think I would have remembered it the first time I replied. Could have been really stoned too though, lol.

Yeah was the snake pass, local road to me and my sister's a huge fan. Sure there's a video on here somewhere showing how all the footpedals work to activate the different drums he uses, unbelievable stuff!
I absolutely love the 80’s, and I’m so lucky I grew up with parents with such great taste in music, my parents are for sure 80’s people, dad has the long ass hair still, my mom absolutely loves the 80’s, I wish I could go back in time and visit there. I’m a 90’s kid, but I love the 80’s and the 70’s and so on back then up the to early 2000’s. This is when people didn’t sing with auto tune and they could actually sing and use real instruments. I’ve been to concerts, especially Queensryche I met all of the members at the hotel I was staying at, and hung out in their room with my dad, which I had no idea that they were staying at the same one, the drummer wanted a picture with me, like OH MY GOD, you want a picture with me? I was shy and was scared to take one, he walked up to me and put his arm around me and said it’s okay, I took pictures of the four bus, but I can’t post those. You should react to Queensryche, their manager they had I called him uncle fozzy he got me backstage passes and everything. Is it just me that I cry and get emotional when I sing songs from the 80’s especially from journey? makes me miss my 90’s childhood memories 😞 There’s actually a dude on Tik Tok that I follow who literally dressed and reminds me of an 80’s rock dude, he’s in a band too, like this is what I’m used to and I love it when people keep that feeling around and style. Why can’t guys have hair styles like this still today? Ugh!! My fiancé has long hair which I love. I also love the fact that I know more 80’s song and the lyrics then most of the garbage today, some I like, but not all and I’d take this kind of music over that. I love that you love to listen to other types of music, makes me happy!! I’ve also met steel panther, if you don’t know who they are, you should look them up and react to them, they’re still a rock band, I took a picture with all of them at the concert they had in St. Pete, Lexie is my favorite one, you’ll see if you check them out, they’re funny but the music is actually really good and it’s more just for adults.
Brittany cool parents for sure! Some of the 80s music was good like this song, GNR too, but imho the early '90s had great music too. Much of the '80s music sucked as there were SO many hair metal bands without much talent, trying to ride the coattails of the greats like DL.
The Beat.... Done by a one armed drummer! The group took off for about a year after the horrific automobile accident in 1984 while they manufactured a special drum set for Rick Allen, while he learned to play with just one arm.
Me and my sister-in-law karaoke to this song A few years ago in Reno at a bar with about 150 people in it. I thought we kicked ass, looking at the video, not so good but the Dance Floor was on fire thanks alcohol 😂💯 good memory
They were the Led Zeppelin of the 80s, "in popularity" There really was no band bigger than DL in the 80s. Many say Motley Crue, Poison... nope. Leppard. Every song on Hysteria was a top ten hit, and many No#1s.
@warrtiger9780 No, actually only one song was a #1, "Love Bites" and it was only #1 in the USA. Also, not every song was a top ten hit either. There were 12 songs on hysteria, and only 7 were singles, so there were 5 songs that basically are never played on the radio, forget about making charts or the top 10.
Respect for Def Leppard and Rick Allen. This song really gets me fired up. Not many songs can do that for me. It's specifically designed to do that, run it to the top, and don't stop, ever. This is my absolute favorite, you couldn't change my mind.
i remember back in the 80's when the news hit that Rick Allen, the drummer got into a car accident and lost his arm. my first thought was, "What are they going to do?" answer: they went on tour with him!
I can’t remember how they were released as radio singles, but this was the fourth video. Because of the four year hiatus between albums, I think people had kind of forgotten about them. First video was women. The second video was animal. The third video was the title track. And then, this one. However, I had the tape from the get-go. I remember seeing the world premiere for women on MTV back in the day.
jediprettyboy, In the US, Women was first, Animal second, I’m not sure which was released as the third single, but you’re correct, this song was #4 which propelled the album. Album sold to some success, but not to expectations after Pyromania - but, I agree, I think 4 years between albums hurt somewhat as that wasn’t typical back then.

The drummer.Rick Allen was only 15 when he joined the band ..he has been there forever and not going anywhere...love them ! Need to check out one of their earlier songs Let It Go..it Rocks!!
Def Leppard are a super heavy drum band. Usually it's the guitar or vocals that you think of when you say a band, and don't get me wrong, they're ridiculous too. But, as far as this particular band, it's the drums that lead the charge. Can you imagine how proud Rick and the guys must of been after they started practicing and performing again?! And, just to add to what you said about most band members most likely finding another drummer...in 1984, when the accident happened, they were at the top of their game. They weren't just beginning their careers or winding down. Rick began learning to drum one handed in just 3 short months after the accident. 🖤🤘
Good old 80´s Music. Great Song, What about another "Long Hair" Rock Band like Whitesnake ? "Here i go again" would fit perfect, btw - you do a great job, keep going.

There’s actually a dude on Tik Tok that I follow who literally dressed and reminds me of an 80’s rock dude, he’s in a band too, like this is what I’m used to and I love it when people keep that feeling around and style.
Amazing vocals. Whole band can sing so the layering is incredible!
That drummer has one arm getting that beat going !! He’s better than most w two arms !!
The Beat.... Done by a one armed drummer! The group took off for about a year after the horrific automobile accident in 1984 while they manufactured a special drum set for Rick Allen, while he learned to play with just one arm.
You're right....this song has one of the best beats ever...37 yrs later l have this song on all my devices..RIP Steve Clark
I have always loved this song and Def Leppard!! Such a great band!! All their songs are good!! Love your shirt!!!!😍🎤🎶🎸🥁🎵
AND THEY ARE STILL ROCKING
And filling arenas. And still sound great!
Me and my sister-in-law karaoke to this song A few years ago in Reno at a bar with about 150 people in it. I thought we kicked ass, looking at the video, not so good but the Dance Floor was on fire thanks alcohol 😂💯 good memory
I karaoked to this song a while back too!
They were the Led Zeppelin of the 80s, "in popularity"
There really was no band bigger than DL in the 80s.
Bon jovi was very big in the 80's
Only Michael Jackson sold more albums in the 80”s, difficult to compete with the guy who made the thriller album.
@@derekboudreaux3931 Ummm AC/DC also sold more albums.
PREACH!!!
Respect for Def Leppard and Rick Allen.
This song really gets me fired up. Not many songs can do that for me. It's specifically designed to do that, run it to the top, and don't stop, ever. This is my absolute favorite, you couldn't change my mind.
Have seen Def Leppard many times many times over the years. They give a fantastic show.
the Archies: Sugar Sugar was a MAJOR hit back in the day of its release and, quite honestly, well worth the listen if you're up to it
I lived across the street from Ron Dante in NYC. Sweet guy.
One of my all time favorites ❤
I still love that song.
Cut the 45 off the back of a Sugar Puffs cereal box back in the day! I kid you not!
@@GirlWithAnOpinion I did that too.lol
I LOVE DEF LEPPARD SO MUCH!! TO THIS VERY DAY!!
i remember back in the 80's when the news hit that Rick Allen, the drummer got into a car accident and lost his arm. my first thought was, "What are they going to do?" answer: they went on tour with him!
I seen this band in concert so many times.... amazing ....
RIP Steven Clark .... wrote some great songs and was an absolute monster on the guitar....
it took more than a year for the drummer to design a custom rig & get back in form...you’re right, bravo to him & the band
This album didn't really start selling until this was released as the third single. Then it completely took off. So many hits off the album.
Loved it had it wore it out
@@sherrifrazier5722 So did the dude in the dorm next to mine at my first USAF assignment. He went to work about an hour before I did, and he would blast it every morning while he was getting ready (for about 4 months.) No complaints.
I remember Animal coming out, then got the cassette. Great album.
Love this song brings back High School memories. Love your reaction it’s priceless 😂🤣😂🤣 Gosh concerts were great in the 80’s
Extremely pissed off that the Def Leppard/Motley Crue/Poison concert got "postponed" this year. I was so looking forward to being there.
Oh my god, no kidding right? I started seeing these guys in the 80's and I see them every year. This was
a line up I really wanted to see. I was so pissed that I couldn't. I really hope to have the chance soon.
Whaaat? All three bands? I did not know that was happening!
@@ajclements4627 it's happening those 3 plus Joan Jett but I don't really care bout her just not a fav of her but it's still on for 2021 now, but who knows what that's gonna be like.🙄
I know I was so sad about that
Damn are the still doing it !??? I was at Verizon amphitheater like 13 years ago at his concert in California , so awesome 😎
My favorite band of all time!!! Loved growing up in the 80’s! Best music ever!!!!
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I was 9 when it come out. I was obsessed with Def Leppard.
You are spot-on about the drummer Rick Allen, it was awesome that instead of finding another drummer they set him up with a special kit!
Rick came up with the drum kit glad they stayed with Rick
I was a teenager when this song came out. A few decades later, my 17 year old son bought tickets for the two of us to see them in concert as a birthday present. I will die happy from that experience.
You’re right, that beat hits SO hard! 🥁 This is my favorite band of all time so I definitely appreciate your positive feedback. They are the epitome of what any band should be. Freaking love these guys!!!!! ❤️
In the clubs, when this song was played, the dance floor filled up! It was like magic, late 1980’s - 1990’s.
The energy at their concerts is amazing... Was there for my 25th birthday 1988...
Hilariously, this song was inspired by someone saying "Pour some sugar on me" when asked did he want "one lump or two". XD
Rick Allen had been with the band since he was 15, so they DEFINITELY weren't gonna give up on him. It's beautiful!!
It's also why their instruments have so much chemistry with each other. =)
Lets Get Rocked caused most of my hearing damage in the 90's, Good song, Good Times!
do you wanna get rockeddd!!!!!
I was at this concert the whole stage rotated so everyone could enjoy it. Was so cool
The best concert ever! I was in 8th grade and won tickets off the radio to the concert!! Back in the days when you had to keep calling over & over until you got through hoping you were the right caller. My dad had to take me but he enjoyed it too! One of my best memories!!
Concert in the round
Incredible concept
You have a great vibe. So warm and inviting. Thanks for spreading sunshine!
Love it! Every time I hear it! Brings me back! One are drummer! They waited for his recover for their comeback! Pour your love on me! Totally gets me cranked time and again!!
The song of my youth, idolised Def Leppard in the 80’s
So happy to see you finally discovering Def Leppard, Brother Jamal! 🤘
Jamel, it’s exactly what you think it’s about 😂
This is my fav def leppard song luv this at their concerts crowd goes crazy
HUGE fan!! Def Leppard still ROCKS! 💜
They will tour Summer 2021. 🎶🎤🎸🥁
I remember back in the old days when a guy or girl would tell their other, "come here and give me some sugar" which means some love.
K.Scott L lol all i thought bout when u said that was army of darkness when ash says gimme some suger baby lol
Love Def Leppard the best song ever. Great band!! Love your reactions they are the best!!! The drummer is amazing learned how to adapt very well. Oh...oh cut that rug Jamal!!🥰
the ARCHIES absolutely influenced him with that ending to "Sugar Sugar"
He should react to that song... :)
Jamel should absolutely react to "Sugar, Sugar", it's a great song.
I have enjoyed all your reactions but this group! This group right here is my very favorite! My favorite song from them too! All their songs are great but this is my #1! Thanks for playing them. Takes me back to my teens. ❤️❤️❤️
I've seen Def Leppard in concert 3 times and it was BAD ASS each time!!!!
This is my jam 😂 I also love Bringing On The Heartbreak and Hysteria
~I also suggest Whitesnake "Still of the Night" amazing song!
Yesss! I request Whitesnake to channels all the time- “Still of the Night”, “ Is this love”(official videos) and”Slow & Easy.”
I love the cello solo in that song I turn it up to eleven lol
Love Whitesnake
Crying in the Rain
Yes, I already mentioned "Still of the Night" once. Come on, Jamel...that is a bad song
Yep it is a bit freaky deeky....especially when he gets to “you’ve got the peaches, I’ve got the cream.”
"Do you take sugar? One lump or two?"
Oh yeah, it's freaky-deaky.
Girl if you would have said that in the '80s they would have totally kicked you out of civilization lol. Def Leppard was God and the world rocked to them!
I was 13 when this came out, listened to it on repeat for 2 years and many times since then (30 years later) and this line has not clicked for me until now... wtf???
HG 2614 - One of their groupies said it (you can guess what she was talking about) and they wrote this song from that.
LOL
"Women" by Def Leppard is a great song of theirs.
Yes, they're good!
Wait until he sees Tawmy Kitean on the hood of the car. Lolol
Rick Allen, the God of Thunder!!!!
If I could only bring one band on "cassettes" to an 80's kegger it would be Def Leppard for sure!
Best rock band ever. Wishing all the best in the future. Bless all.
Band from my own city absolutely love them.
Had no idea that the drummer was disabled until I saw this video. Just made me love them even more as I'm disabled myself
Listen to Hysteria by Def Leppard!!
Good choice
Yes.
React to Bringin on the Heartbreak.
RIP Steve this song has a fantastic solo by him :(
This is my song, lol. I have told all my friends and family that when I die, they better play this either at the wake or the funeral or I'm haunting them.
It’s one of my favorites of this group you should go and see them live even now they are fantastic.
I've seen them in concert 3 times since 1988, last time was june 2022 in Atlanta for the stadium tour with Def Leppard, Poision , Motley Crue and Joan Jett!!. They can still rock out
This is “Hell Yeah” Rock. Damn those were fun
days! Never wanted it to end.
Fyi fact Phil Colleen the guitarist with short hair was almost signed by iron maiden but Adrian Smith got the gig and so he joined Def lepperd instead
Thank goodness for that.
Pat Benatar- Hell is for children
and Love is a battlefield.
Yes, and MORE YES! 🎶♥️
And We Belong, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, All Fired Up..... all of Pat really 😁😁👍🙌🙌
Hell is for Children is very heartbreaking. He should be warned. It is a great song that truly shows Pat's talent to the fullest. I don't agree with her entirely. While you are a child and going through the abuse, it is hell. When you grow up you have the choice to fight your way to the light and leave hell behind. Speaking from personal experience it seems like it is always nipping at your heels though.
should also do suffer the little children. Pat Benatar would do hell is for children and suffer the little children together in concert. It was great.
“Invincible” was a kickass song too
These guys playing in the round...best concert ever! Rock bands knew how to perform in the 80s! These guys knew hot to connect with their audience!
January of '86 , DL came to Denver, McNichols Arena & filmed both nights . I was there that 1st night ; THE best concert, ever. I couldn't hear for 3 days, but who cared ??? RIP, Steve Clark ---------all respect to Rick Allen. -------MJL, 74 y/o
The true true meaning of this song IS freaky deaky LOL
This one was a strip club staple back in the day.
It still is
@@karlsmith2570 haven't been to one in at least 15 years. Figured I should only speak to what I know/knew.
Along with "Cherry Pie"
@@danielah3398 and Rock and Roll Fantasy by Bad Company
@@danielah3398 yup, I actually knew a stripper that would dance to that song
Ironically, her name was Cherry
My sunday school teacher when i was like 16 accidentally got me hooked on this song.
That's awkward.
Is there a story behind that comment cos you have attention!?
What else did she teach you? Asking for a friend...
This was the top song for a ride called The Moonraker on a carnival I worked for. It brought in crowds of every type of person there. It's a fun and fabulous song. And one of the best concerts ever. Thank you for listening. Keep it up.
Def Leppard seriously RULE!
Legend has Rick Allen's left arm started it's own band.....
Nick 🤣
"Nick's ARMy"...

Thanks To This Song Many A Pole Dancer Paid Their Bills & Fans Like Me Took To That Pole Like Bees To A Hive!!
I guess “Love Bites” was taken down. Was in the middle of it and then... gone
Gotta get the Vimeo app or Vimeo online and check out his "channel" there.
This was my band in high school!! I've probably seen this video 1000 times but your enjoyment made me giddy all over again!
This video was #1 on Dial MTV all Summer back in '88. My sister & her fiends took me to see them that October - my first concert & it was amazing! We still see them every time they come to Atlanta & they still kick ass!!
