Rick Allen is known as the Thunder God. He is living proof that resilience is alive & well. He plays a lot with his feet as well as his right arm. Love that the band refused to replace him & waited until he learned to play with one arm. Loyalty, friendship & talent.
That’s such an awesome thing! I love how they waited for him! I think he is the best honestly for being able to drum with one arm, such amazing talent!! -Andrea
Old roadie, here. Rik's a lovely guy, you just have to know him quite well if he invites you around for dinner as he chops everything using a foot to hold the veg, in place. :P There's a whole movie there, not so much about him losing the arm but the events afterwards, getting him back in the band. Fromthe tech redesigning drum kits, to Quo's drummer (who was standing in) not making it to a Irish date, on the tour and Rik having to do the whole thing. Possibly one of the greatest live moments, in rock. If I remember, he had to have his shoulder joint replaced, on his other arm, from too much water skiing. :D
Yes, the drummer only has one arm. Rick Allen lost it in a car wreck in 1985. Instead of replacing him, the band waited for him to get well enough to perform again. With a specially designed drum kit, he now plays the parts he would have with his left arm with his left foot. My daughter, about 15 years ago, saw them, Foreigner and Cheap Trick in concert. I get a text from her "Dude the drummer only has one arm, I wanna have one arm". Kids.
Drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident , New Year's eve 1984. The band stuck with him ,waited for him to heal and relearn how to play. The Hysteria album, their 4th record, which includes this song, came out in 1987. 1983's Pyromania album, and this one, were huge.
Wow! That is so awesome that they waited for him to heal and relearn how to play! I was so surprised when I saw it! He is amazingly talented at drumming. It’s so cool how people really prosper and figure out how to do something they love after a big life change like that! Such a talented group of guys! -Dallas
Def Leppard is one of the greatest and most successful rock bands of all time. They have a huge catalog of hits and are still selling out arenas today.
Love this song and reaction so much. He lost his arm new yrs eve 1984 and made comeback aug 1985 playing with the band live using custom electronc drum kit. Not only did he lose arm but had other injuries like broken neck. Imagine the psychological trauma... i was just into my teenage yrs when this video hit the screen and i must say we were all about them there ripped up "FROSTED" JEANS. 🤪 good morning ladies.
Oh my gosh! A broken neck as well! I’m sure the recovery time was long, but look at him now! Such talent! I was so surprised, but in a good way! I bet you were!! Those fellas were probably the bees knees back in the day! lol The style back then was wild! Isn’t it funny how styles come back around over time! 😊-Dallas
@@dna2001The drummer puts everything for his left arm on foot petals and had to relearn everything that way. The band actually comments in their documentary after telling him that they weren’t going to replace him that any drummer would give his left arm for that job.
Y un rick Allen demasiado joven en ese momento, pero nunca se rindió y nunca la banda lo dejo de apoyar ni mucho menos buscaron un remplazó...fueron una familia de allí en adelante .❤❤❤❤
It was the 80s and we loved them, ripped jeans, the hair, everything about them. Why is it so funny that Rick only has one arm? They are all great musicians and singers, still selling out stadiums all over the world. The entertainers of today can't hold a candle to them.
Yep definitely that 80’s style. We were not laughing at him for only having one arm. We were simply surprised that he only had one arm. We think it’s cool that had a special drum kit made for him and that the rest of the band waited for him to heal. -Dallas
Thanks ladies, those were the days the 80's and the Hairbands days love that era I am still a big fan of a lot of those bands everyone went out and got perms in their hair (guilty as charged 🤣🤣🤣) ... Def Leppard is awesome live ... Rick Allen (the drummer) was in a car accident and had to have his arm removed the band did not replace him he has a drum set built (there is an interesting video of his drum set) ok I am a music crazed fan
Not only is Rick Allen a living MIRACLE & phenomenal drummer… He is also a fantastic Artist! His paintings are breathtaking! TH-cam has a Special of him on ABC & shows his Gallery! Just beautiful!♥️
Drummer Rick Allen, lost his left arm when his Corvette crashed and rolled over. He was ejected, but due to the seatbelt wrapping around his left arm, the arm was torn off and found up under the dashboard. He designed the first electronic drum kit and carried on. This makes you wonder about people who complain about their 1st world problems. There are people out there waaaaay worse off than us and carry on with a smile.
As others have already said below, Rick Allan, the drummer, lost his arm in a car accident, ripped off by his seatbelt, doctors reattached it, but it didn't work, and it was amputated, he learned to play the drums with 1 arm and his feet. There is a movie about the whole ordeal and the band, called Hysteria, also the same name of their most popular album that this song was on.
We were at the Cincinnati show from that tour! My sister and I had the best time! Have to admit it was overwhelming enough that we shed a few tears at times.
I went to this tour when they stopped in San Diego. I was very impressed with Def for how amazing they sound even after all these years. Vocally, guitar, drums, etc it was a great show.
Yes, he has one arm. He was like 21 when the accident happened. Check out the album High N Dry. It came out in 1981. Pyromania came out in 1983, and Hysteria in 1987. This band has been a lot throughout their career. Pete Willis, one of their original guitarists, had to leave the band due to his drinking after the 1981 album. Their other guitarist Steve Clark (The guy with the long blond hair in this video) died of alcohol poisoning in 1991, at only 30. And, of course, the loss of the drummer's arm in 1984. Rick Allan is his name.
Oh!, Def Leppard, one of my favorite rock groups of my youth. What memories, I hadn't watched this MV many years ago. Rick Allen, the band's drummer, lost his left arm in a car accident, when the group had released 3 albums, the latter being highly successful. In spite of the accident, he continued his career thanks to an electronic drum kit that allowed him to play with just one arm and his feet, and his enormous adaptation work, of course. Greetings once more 👋✌️
I grew up on this band, from 1983’s Pyromania. The video is not the original one, as this is an extended version of the song. The original starts with the words ‘Step inside, walk this way, you and me babe, hey hey!’ They also produced extended versions of Excitable and Armageddon It (all from 1987’s Hysteria). To compensate for the loss of his left arm, Rick Allen had a drum set specially built to be able to use his feet (to compensate).
Back in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit, Rick Savage ( bass player) put his jacket up for auction he wore it at the 1988/89 MTV Awards... it's a beautiful light blue leather jacket!!! I ended up paying $1000 USD for it!! I seen these guys 18 times, and they're doing another tour here soon!!!
I saw this tour in Australia “In the Round” at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Australia. It was absolutely amazing. And yes….. the girls all did have the big hair 80’s makeup
I'm a mid 20s metalhead but I grew up with their music. The gated reverb on the drums is sooo addictive and no matter what anyone says, they are cool MFs lol. Especially the bassist
Def Leppard just started their Stadium Tour with Journey and the Steve Miller Band/Cheap Trick last weekend. You should most definitely check them out if they come anywhere near you. Leppard sounds better now than they did 30 years ago.
The drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a bad car wreck where the seatbelt tore his arm off it's a sad story though and y'all should listen to another great song by Def Leppard called "love bites"
I had hair down to my ass back then. Im 6'0" blonde blue eyed and my little 4'8" wife loved every inch of me...wasn't no poodle :P I think I was 20 then. Yes Rick has just 1 arm. Ahh yes the 80s, simpler times. (I wasn’t born yet lol) my mom had the big 80s perm then too and my dad had a mullet. Old pictures of them are wild lol Many years ago my brother and I had a bet going on that involved this song and I’m not gonna say anything about what that bet was but just know that I won 😂 This reaction was too funny and had me nearly in tears lol love ya guys!

Def* that's my phone screen smashed, so my bad.!! This band was a big thing back in the late 80's and early 90's.!! His drum set was specially designed for him. He has foot pedals. His left foot does the job his left arm would have been doing. If you watch the video there are times you can see his left foot come down when you hear the snare drum part.

Yall have no idea about hair in the 80's. Layers, long hair and yes perms were in. Eddie Van Halen is one of the cutest long poodles hair guys ever. Might not be your style but definitely not gross. 😂❤🎉
Actually it was quite fashionable to have tight jeans, ripped jeans, long hair. Today’s mean look like crap compared to then. Now the men don’t even get the wrinkles out of tshirts when they put them on and then pants down to the knees is a fashion statement but it’s definitely better then than now for sure.
It’s hard to listen to this one for me. My mom was into DL and lots of 80’s rock but she’s gone now. Weird how music can transport you right back to vivid memories.
Music is powerful! My brother passed away in 2012 and there are still songs that make me ball when I hear them. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I’m sure that is very hard. Hang in there. Maybe one day you will listen to 80’s rock to reminisce on the memories. 😊-Dallas
@@dna2001 Appreciate it Dallas :) losing people is a weird thing. Makes you avoid some things and look for others. Like voice messages, candy they liked and of course music. Is it the same for you? I feel for you on your loss as well. ❤️
If you want to know just how scandalous that tour by Def Leppard was, ask your aunt if she knows any of the extreme stories about the things that happened underneath that stage whenever band members had a moment where they didn't need to be on stage (during, say, a guitar or drum solo). Those are great stories and explain why the band members smile a lot.
These two talking about gross looking who are the members of Def Leppard . . . Apparently they haven't looked in the mirror lately . . . If I was them I really wouldn't be talking about other people's looks . . . Trust me these two are not any kind of a door prize themselves . . . Def Leppard has walked over women that look 10,000 times better than these two . . .

They created a new kit with more pedals and Rick uses his feet more to make up for the missing arm

Produced by Mutt Lange. Written by him, Joe Elliott, Phil Collen, Rick Savage and the late Steve Clark. Great 👍 1980s song 🎵.
Written by accident! 🤯 Lange wanted a big hit song 🎵 in order to finish recording the album Hysteria. Joe Elliott grabbed a guitar 🎸 abd strummed random chords. All the other band members took a cigarette 🚬 break. Lange heard 👂 the chords and liked 👍 them. When the other members returned, they finished the rest of the song 🎵.
The chorus has the same pattern as Do You Believe in Love. Same key 🔑 No ©️ copyright violation: Lange wrote that song in the 1970s.🤯 Huey Lewis and the News covered it in 1980. (They are from Marin County, North of my hometown San Francisco 🌉. )
Lange could have retired after This song was released. But he did not: he wrote and or/produced with other musicians from Bryan Adams to Nickelback.
The 2nd chorus and remaining choruses are similar to the bridge in Everything I Do I Do It for You. Bryan Adams is the original singer and 1 of the writers. No ©️ copyright violation: Lange is 1 of the writers! 🤯
Suggested videos 📹: 1 Bryan Adams sings Everything I Do I Do It for You. 2 Huey Lewis and the News perform Do You Believe in Love 3 Def Leppard performs Animal 🐆 4 The Cars 🚗 perform Drive.

@@dna2001 Appreciate it Dallas :) losing people is a weird thing. Makes you avoid some things and look for others. Like voice messages, candy they liked and of course music. Is it the same for you? I feel for you on your loss as well. ❤️
Omgosh ladies your smiles are Beautiful!! You both had so much fun!!
Does the drummer have one arm??? Yeah for like the last 40 years lol.
Awesome reaction/ can you please react to Alvin Lee/ the bluest blues.
How do you know the song?
Because we both have grown up listening to this song?! We both stated that we have heard it before.
Giggling like 15 year old school girls.
The song is about sex!
Oh my! 🤭 We will definitely have to ask her if she knows those stories! I’m sure they always had a great time performing! Lol -Dallas

???
These two talking about gross looking who are the members of Def Leppard . . . Apparently they haven't looked in the mirror lately . . . If I was them I really wouldn't be talking about other people's looks . . . Trust me these two are not any kind of a door prize themselves . . . Def Leppard has walked over women that look 10,000 times better than these two . . .
Saw them in 1983 Pyromania tour with Krokus. Damn good show
Def Leppard just started their Stadium Tour with Journey and the Steve Miller Band/Cheap Trick last weekend. You should most definitely check them out if they come anywhere near you. Leppard sounds better now than they did 30 years ago.
