After Rick Allen's accident he wanted to quit playing. The rest of the band said they wouldn't play without him. They supported him while he learned to play a special electronic drum set using his left left leg to replace the arm. To me this kind of support of a fellow band mate just makes them that much more special. Not only rock legends, but great human beings.
He never wanted to quit. His initial thought that the band would wait or not was the question. They visited him in the hospital and he told them he could okay and they were behind him 💯
Yeah he never wanted to quit he felt that he was of no use to the band until someone brought a stereo in to his hospital room and played some music. He found himself tapping along to the music with his foot and told the band his idea about using his feet and they agreed that he was their drummer and waited for him to get his kit together. His first live show they flew another drummer in as backup in case Rick had problems and the drummer got held up at the airport so Rick started and when the drummer got their he said to them I don’t know why you needed me here he’s doing awesome.
He was depressed after the accident, yes, but he actually came up with the idea to use his left foot. Kind of fiddling around in his hospital bed tapping his feet against the footboard. I remember reading an interview about it. His bandmates thought he was not coming to terms with things, and then he explained the concept and they all got on board with it.
The accident ripped Rick's arm off. It was reattached by doctors, but then got infected and the infection threatened to kill him, so it had to be re-amputated. Just imagine losing your arm not once, but twice, as a professional drummer. And he overcame it. The rest of the guys in the band waited for him to recover. They're legends as human beings, as well as rockers. :)
That's one of the things that's so special about them as a band. Rick said when he was in the hospital he was depressed because his career was over The others came to visit him and all said, we're family and you're not going anywhere. They took time off touring and after he healed he designed his drum kit with extra foot pedals. I was waiting for you to spot it!
The drums kick so hard because my hero Rick Allen is using his feet. When he was in the hospital after the accident, he became very depressed thinking his career was over. They had three albums out at the time and were working oh Hysteria, which took 4 years to make. Well the band supported him and he started to kick on the end of the hospital bed while he healed. They figured out how to make a special drum kit for him so he could use his feet and his one arm and still play the songs. And here in this video we all were amazed to see him playing like a rock star! This song did get to #1 and stayed there for a long time. It was HUGE at the time. I remember I was 11 and begged for the album for Christmas. I wanted Hysteria and a Walkman. Santa came through and I listened to it over and over again. Wore that tape out and had to get another copy! I cannot stress to you just how BIG this song and album was back in the day. A while after Hysteria came out, they put out a book called Historia, and they told the story of what happened to Rick Allen in every detail. They are a fucking amazing band. They did finally make it to the rock n roll hall of fame. May Steamin Steve Clark join the great gig in the sky with the rest of the rock n roll angels. Rest his soul. I still cry when I think about him.
And this ... this is THE greatest first reaction to THE greatest band in the world!! Absolutely loved watching this! The writing, the riffs, the melodies, the harmonies, everything ... all five members know one thing. Perfection.
Pretty f****** amazing and I live through that era saw them in Sacramento California and about 1987 married my wife that year it's it's just the time in my life I never forget play some more Def Leppard any time you get the urge they have a bottomless catalog
Drew, Rick Allen had been the drummer for Def Leppard since the age of 15. Tragically at the age of 23, he lost his arm in a terrible car accident. The doctors told him he would never drum again. This wouldn't stop Rick from playing with what would become one of the biggest rock bands in history.
Trish actually according to Joe Elliot Rick join the bad at 14 but didn't start touring with them at 15 bc they did a whole year of nothing but practices before there first gig at a high school
Def Leppard was is the band . Many hits under their belt. Rock Of Ages. Love Bites, Animal, Hysteria, Foolin, Photograph, just to name few. Seen them 4 times and they put on a show, and still recording music and out on tour with Motley Crew. Go down the rabbit hole.
One reason was because the entire album Hysteria was bangers, so people just bought the entire album instead of just the singles. I bought the cassette at Mother's Records at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach as they were pulling them out of the box. I headed towards a friend's place in Newport News, and I was on the interstate in Hampton when this song came on. I had to listen to it over and over again and knew this was pure magic. I actually saw them a few months later at Hampton Colliseum in a fourth row seat, great concert!
Def Leppard has been my sister's fav band since day 1! I surprised her with front row seats and a limo in 2019. I went there liking them and left blown away. They blew the roof off!
Keep watching and listening to them! I did, and now they're my favorite band! I'm a dork about it... I've seen them close to 30 times, and am a proud member of the fan club! 😀
Rick Allen should be the poster boy for "No Excuses". Not to mention the love of the band for sticking by him and refusing to replace him. I'm just one guy, but when I think "iconic 80s" or "Rockstars", Def Leppard is it.
The weird thing is, this song almost never happened. They had recorded the rest of the album, and were in the studio just doing some final details. Joe the lead singer was strumming away on an acoustic guitar to pass the time and their producer, Mutt Lange, heard something he liked Joe was doing. By that point, after Rick's accident they had been in the studio for over 3 years, so they wrote and recorded the song very quickly to get it on the album. That probably accounts for why it was played with such abandon. The band freely acknowledges Mutt as vital to their sound and success.
I saw this tour back in 1988 here in Canada…..it was in the round…the stage continually turned….I was a couple of rows back. It was absolutely amazing. And Rick Allen is The Thunder God❤
Drew; FYI; What does pouring sugar mean? That's right! "Pour Some Sugar on Me" has to do with sexual gratification. The song is about urging someone you're fond of to get nasty with you and do what you like. Not to sound like an old fogey, but songs back in the day used to employ the use of metaphors when discussing more intimate predilections.
Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm when he was 21. He'd been with the band since he was 15. At the height of their success, they waited until he healed and re-taught himself how to play. He has a special kit, in which his left pedal could emulate what his left arm could do. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day and sees drumming and painting as therapeutic healing for him. This song was inspired by someone saying "Pour some sugar on me" when asking did they want one lump or two(At least according to my little CD booklet I got with a special edition release of their Definitive Deluxe album). XD
I love listening to and watching first-time listeners of Def Leppard! Their reactions are priceless, and their freak out over one-arm drummer, Thunder God, Rick Allen is gold!! Prepare to be amazed!!
The greatest nine-armed-band....ever. This song was HUGE back in the day (which means I'm OLD as Hell😁). You DEFINITELY should continue down the Def Leppard rabbit hole. "Let It Go" off their High And Dry album is what caught a lot of attention. Then move to the album "Pyromania" (which was the soundtrack to my summer of 1983). We used to play a drinking game back in the day that we called "Never have I ever..." and my go-to that got EVERY guy at the table to drink was "Never have I ever seen a stripper dance to a Def Leppard song". Everybody had to drink....even me. Great vid, sir! Loved your reaction AND your appreciation of the band/song.
I always thought the joke was "what has 7 arms and sucks".. ? are there 5 members? I've seen them in concert and honestly don't remember. I just remember the guitarist doing a string bend by holding the note and using the weight of the guitar to pull the string. Which, as a guitarist, horrified me. All I could think was, "Good luck keeping that in tune", but I guess when you have 6 or 7 guitars on stage you can do stuff like that.
Check out their new album! 65 and still killin it! They went out on tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett in summer of 2022 and ranked 4th on top selling tours of the summer
I was at the Indy show. It was amazing and Def, Joan and Poison sounded the same as always. I dont know what was wrong with Crue. We left 4 songs into the set. They sounded horrible!
Hysteria took over 3 years to record. The LP had to sell at least 5mil units to break even.... by Christmas 87 sales had stalled around 3 mil units. They released Pour Some Sugar On Me in early spring and LP sales exploded, averaging 500K weekly during the run of that single alone.
Yay! Love to see a new Def Leppard fan. I went to see their show recently and there were all generations of fans there and the band is still so powerful and inspirational to see live! Other great tracks are: Bringing On The Heartbreak, Love Bites, Rocket, Rock Of Ages, Armageddon It and Animal. 🎉
Adding this comment even before I watch... Several years back, Def Leppard was backing KISS and went to the show outdoor arena in St. Louis MO. I knew they had a huge catalog of hits spanning decades but had only seen them once in the early 80s... Long story short, solid hour on stage with hit after hit and the songs just kept pouring out for another 30 minutes at least. You are falling in the rabbit hole of Def Leppard!!
What a beautiful reaction. Yeah, Dude... Rick Allen is the definition of "Never Give Up" !!! Now your eyes are open, and you see what we all see. Thunder God 4-Ever !!! Rick is the real deal and an inspiration to us all. After seeing Def Leppard's videos, most people say the same thing you did, my Brother... "Don't EVER say I can't do something"... this man defied all the odds...'Nuff said 😎
They got it from The Archies song Sugar Sugar.... Ah, sugar Oh, honey, honey You are my candy girl Oh-oh-oh-oh, sugar Pour a little sugar on it, honey Pour a little sugar on it, baby Make your life so sweet, yeah, yeah, yeah And you got me wanting you
I was actually in the concert when it was filmed in McNichols Arena in Denver Colorado. Cassette tape sales and concert sales are tracked to differently so yeah, this song definitely helped attract more people to their concert. And Def Leppard concerts were 75% female 25% male oh, so there was ladies everywhere
I remember this song coming out when I was in jr. high, it was ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! I still remember a quote from a rock magazine about it at the time, " the cream rose to the top, overflowed and damn near drowned us all!". Every day at school during lunch break, on MTV a jillion times a day, it was INSANE. Oh, and the Thunder God.
Rick flipped his Corvette on a winding road in a remote UK area...got thrown out the sunroof and it was the seatbelt that sliced his arm off when he got launched out...by pure luck, a nurse drove by moments later, saw the wreck and was instrumental in saving his life that day...2 attempted reattachments failed, almost causing him to lose the other arm...while still in hospital, started to think about using his feet in place of his arm....Thunder God is legend
There is a documentary video about Rick Allen losing his arm. The band was behind him all the way. Waited while he recovered and learned to play again, while designing a drum kit he could day with his feet. It an awesome video.
Awesome reaction. I always look forward to when a reactor notices the drummer. Sometimes they don't even notice. I hate that. YOU had a great moment. One of my favorites..... And THANK YOU for finally straightening the pictures behind you.
The album took 5 years to complete, 3 different producers. They were deeply in debt by the time Mutt Lange rejoined the producer role and told them to scrap the entire recordings and start over. It's documented in the MTV Classic Albums documentary, but Mutt Lange finally rejoined the effort after Rick Allen lost his arm and was fighting to relearn to play drums. Great story, ultimately the band endured, made profit on the album and continue to this day. Unfortunately, it was guitarists Steve Clarks final contribution who succumbed to alcoholism while recording the bands next album. Crazy stories abound with this band that keeps forging on. Thanks for the video with your reaction friend.
One of the best bands of the 80's... love their music... just love it... saw them in concert again just last year... would go see them again and again if I could. They are awesome. Nice guys too.
The Gods of Rock! Rick uses a customized drum kit with 4 electronic pedals for his left foot to replace left arm. The brotherhood backed him and did not continue their music until he was able to play. Hysteria went 12 times platinum due to this song on the album!
This is my first time being on your page......tytyty for being opened minded. Thank goodness younger generation is kinda actually interested on the progression of music. Yes he only has one arm. Tyty for your reaction ❤🎶🎸
Great band that still rocks today. They are one of the best live bands around. Joe (singer) and Sav (bass) are the founding members and have been together for 45 years. Unfortunately Steve Clark (long blonde hair guitarist) sadly died from alcohol poisoning in 1991. In 1992, he was replaced by Vivian Campbell (the new guy). The other guitarist (short blonde hair is Phil Collen. And yes Rick Allen has only one arm. He is still playing with this band. The current lineup has been the same since 1992. And they still sound great today. They are real professionals who really care about their fans. And they are my favorite band.
Drew, Who wrote most of the Def Leppard songs? Hard rock guitarist Steve Clark, and songwriter born in Sheffield, England. He was the principal songwriter and lead guitarist for Def Leppard when he died at the age of 30 of alcohol poisoning.
@@TheRetroManRandySavage Steve wasn't really a lyricist, but was a major force in the music writing.. Joe was the main lyricist for the band, but Phil and Savage had contributions. In later years, Phil became a much bigger contributer to songwriting and lyrics alongside Joe. Rick Savage and Vivian also write to a lesser degree.
Steve created the riffs that formed the basis for many of their songs. However, most of the songs on their early albums were a collaborative effort. Joe Elliott was the principal lyricist. But that should never diminish the contributions of the other members.
Not only is Rick Allen's story inspirational, so is Joe Elliott. I think it was a Behind the Music profile I saw this. Elliott worked tirelessly promoting the band before they made it. At one point he talks about the dream that drove him. He said that someday the book of rock would be published. That the Beatles would be on the front cover and the Stones on the back cover. H didn't know where, but on some page of the book would be Def Leppard. That's what drove him.
They poured sugar on us and we them. These bands never remind us of other bands. They all carried their own musically. The older I get and experience this messy world, I'm so grateful I lived through this. It was amazing.
I was impressed and pleased you noticed the drummer has only one arm. If you want to see Rick playing with both arms check out the Rock of Ages Official video. I bought the Hysteria album back in the day and still love hearing them. My friends and I used to get quite sticky watching their videos 😂. One of my favourites I recommend is Rocket which has a killer beat.
At the time of this song is released people were able to use recording devices to in effect record on blank CDs and that’s how most people got their music….. one person bought it and then they were able to record on blank CDs for the cost of the blank CD….. I hope this helps you understand the money aspect
Def Leppard are a classic British Soft Metal band and are amazing especially as they were friends before they made it and then after their Drummer Rick Allen had a car accident which cost him an arm, they still kept their close ties while Rick re--learned how to play the drums with one arm and both his feet with the help of his preferred Drum Kit Manufacturer. This song is after Rick had re-learned how to play the drums as mentioned above. Edit: Also kudos to the rest of Def Leppard as they never gave up on Rick being able to rejoin the band.
I love your reactions. I grew up to Def Leppard they have one hell of a band.. I hope someday you'll get headphones omigosh it makes such a huge difference when you have those on.. great reaction😊
Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands of all time, seen them live 3 times! They are absolutely amazing :-). I just found you for you reaction to Love of my Life ❤. I love how you research and give thoughts after you’ve watched/listened. I’m now subscribed and am looking forward to your next reaction!!
Love them!! Just got to see them this last summer with Poison, Motley Crue and Joan Jett! So much respect for this band because they helped their friend and drummer so much after he lost his arm instead of replacing him like a lot of other bands might have done. Rick Allen is one of the greatest drummers of all time! And with one arm he can out drum most other drummers! These guys are a family and you can tell. Hysteria is my favorite but they honestly never made a bad song. Ever! So many amazing songs I'd love to see you react to! Like Hysteria, Photograph, Armageddon It, Love Bites and Bringing On The Heartbreak!❤
It's the syncopation between the drums and the guitar/vocal lines. Just beautiful to listen to. And ironically, missing an arm actually creates some space in the beat to enhance that effect.
My husband and I were at this Def Leppard concert. It was in the "round" in the old OMNI venue in Atlanta (since torn down and replaced with a venue with much better acoustics). Queensryche was the opening act. This band and Rick Allen are an inspiration in courage and determination. You should watch some of the back story documentaries about how Rick lost his arm and the hard work he did to teach himself how to play again without the left arm. He also designed a new drum kit to accommodate his new reality. In the meantime, the band waited for him for about 2 years, if I remember correctly.
I had to subscribe after seeing and hearing your reaction to Def Leppard. I can't wait to see more from DL on your channel. Mutt Lange was one of the best in the business and used to be married to country pop star Shania Twain. The concert was indeed in the round and how they got the guys out to the stage was in plain sight. After rolling several silver carts to the stage filled with water and other items needed for the show, they brought the guys out one at a time right in front of their fans! DL said this in a documentary I saw. I've been a fan since the 70's and remember waiting to hear about Rick's arm as they tried to reattach it but it got infected and so he had to amputate it. This song has been used alot in strip clubs the guys say.😂 I hope you react to their earlier songs from the early 80's and not just Hysteria songs (which they are all AWESOME!). Please react to Photograph, Foolin', Rock of Ages and so many, many, more!
Steve Clark was the guitarist before Vivian Cambell. Ironically enough Vivian played with dio from until 1986, he joined def Leppard after Steve died of alcohol posing in 1991. Steve had a alcohol level higher then led zeppelin John Bonham when he die. And Steve is currently in the top 10 or top 20 of best guitarist of all time.
Ricks car accident happened in 1984. Def Leppard took a 3 year highatus. I know because I've heard the band members say it plenty of times over the years. Rick Allen is the Goat. After strippers started dancing to this song. The Hysteria album exploded selling more than the initial 3 million.
Yep, this song was the spark that lit the fire of this album being a phenomenon. Apparently the record company shipped 400,000 copies of 'Hysteria' in one day because of the impact of this song. IN ONE DAY!!😮
Rock and Roll hombre!!!!!! Nothing else needs to be said!!!! Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!!!!! Just grab your favorite drink or smoke or whatever!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!! 🤩😎🍸
When they formed the band as teenagers, Joe Elliott (lead vocals) had this fictional band created on paper called 'Deaf Leopard'... They changed the spelling to 'Def Leppard' (later realizing it mimicked Led Zeppelin)... Rick 'Sav' Savage (bass) and Pete Willis (guitar) were joined by Steve Clark (guitar)... Rick Allen (drums) was 15 when he joined Def Leppard in 1979(?) and was considered the best musician in the band. Def Leppard were signed in 1979 and joined the roster of newer British rock and metal bands being promoted in 1980 (Judas Priest, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head, etc.) w/ the first album 'On through the night'. However, UK audiences did not like Def Leppard at the time... They toured USA and Canada as an opening band and found a huge audience there. Despite starting out as a rock band, guitarist Phil Collen thought that Def Leppard had more in common musically w/ pop bands like Duran Duran than heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden. Joe Elliott was a huge fan of 70's UK band Mott the Hoople... Queen... Slade... and other British artists. Def Leppard even covered David Essex and Blondie songs. Def Leppard's biopic movie was made by VH1 called 'Hysteria: the Def Leppard story"... portraying the band from 1977 to 1987. Producer Robert Mutt Lange worked on their 2nd album "High n' dry" and began a tough regimen of recording repeatedly in the studio... but the album became a platinum hit in 1982 after MTV began airing Def Leppard's music videos. Alcoholism was affecting guitarist Pete Willison on tour and in the studio, so he was fired in 1982... Phil Collen (guitar) replaced him in Def Leppard. 'Pyromania' (1983) was their 3rd album and became a huge hit in N. America (but sold poorly overseas)... and MTV was a huge promoter of their music videos in the 80's. In late 1984, drummer Rick Allen was involved in a car accident and his left arm was severed in the crash... It was re-attached, but developed an infection... so it was amputated again. He was in the hospital and told the band he wanted to play drums again. Def Leppard refused to replace him and put their plans on hold out of loyalty. In 1985, Rick Allen used new tech to design an electronic drum kit to play w/ 1 arm and 2 feet and spent months re-learning to play drums... Def Leppard played their first shows in 1986 after Rick Allen's accident. 'Hysteria' (4th album) was finally released in 1987 and became a massive hit by 1988... Def Leppard released a concert video "In the round, in your face" in 1989 from that tour. Tragically, guitarist Steve Clark was struggling w/ drug abuse and alcoholism and kept ending up in rehab between 1989 and 1990 as Def Leppard began writing a new album. He was given a "leave of absence" to give him time to clean up his act, but he died in early 1991. Def Leppard recorded the 5th album 'Adrenalize' w/ guitarist Phil Collen playing all his parts... It went to #1 in the US in 1992 as Def Leppard hired Vivian Campbell (guitar) and went back on tour. The 90's saw new rock bands that killed the popularity of 80's rock bands like Def Leppard... so their 1996 album 'Slang' was a commercial disappointment. Def Leppard persisted w/ the album 'Euphoria' (1999) and the a pop album 'X' (2002)... In 2005, their 'Rock of ages' 2CD release brought back their 80's hits and Def Leppard were selling big venues on tour once again. In 2008, Def Leppard performed on CMT's 'Crossroads' show w/ Taylor Swift, who was a huge fan through her mom. They performed both her songs and Def Leppard's hits together... After Vivian Campbell was diagnosed w/ cancer in 2013, he took a break from Def Leppard to get treatment... Thankfully, he survived and returned as they released their self-titled album in 2015... They performed and recorded the 'Hysteria' album live as the DVD/CD release 'Viva Hysteria'. In 2022, Def Leppard released the album 'Diamond star halos' and sold out a stadium tour of N. America w/ Motley Crue... they plan to tour Europe and S. America in 2023.
Dude!! you can literally go to the most remote village in North Korea and they know who Def Leppard is! HOW, HOW, HOW could you possibly not know who Def Leppard is??
After watching several of your videos, this one made me subscribe! I saw them in Tallahassee on the Hysteria tour, with Queensryche opening. It was fantastic. Looking forward to revisiting this great music with you! 🙂❤🤘
"See the trick is only pick on those that can't do you no harm Like the drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm " - Jimmy Pop Ali
The one and only late great guitarist Steve Clark, died 32 years ago from an accidental mix of alcohol, and prescription, painkillers for fractured ribs. Wrote most of the music, as stated by Elliott himself (though who seems to backtrack on that statement these days). A gifted and classically😊 trained musician who was also a very sweet and sensitive soul with no self confidence. Life was a struggle, for this beautiful and kind human, who never felt good enough yet was adored by millions. And Rick Allen’s accident. He was in the car with his girlfriend Miriam Berendson who was also injured. She was pivotal in his recovery, refusing to let him be a victim and encouraging him to do things for himself at their home instead of waiting on him which built up his self confidence. She took him to medical appointments, physio, helped him do his exercises at home. Shame that she doesn’t get the credit that she deserves towards his recovery, even from Rick. Maybe wouldn’t be where he is today without her no nonsense attitude, but great encouragement.
After Rick Allen's accident, he wasn't giving up and the rest of the band waiting on him until he was ready to play again. He had an engineer design his drum kit. Setting up a second foot pedal for his left foot, that his left arm use to play
Love Def Leppard! Never forget seeing them with Godsmack live in concert in the late 90s early 2000s. Both gave amazing performances but the highlight of the night was the end when everyone was screaming for more and then you heard the drums going and from the left side you saw drum set swinging out with Rick playing and on the right another drum set swinging out with Sully (from godsmack) doing a drum duel!! Then the rest of both bands came on and played “Rock of Ages” together!
Look, most reaction videos are fake, like prank videos. No hate, get views, earn a living. We like them when most they reinforce our personal opinions and validate what we loved growing up. So I view them as performance art, not some truth. It's hard to like anything the first time you hear it, and it's almost impossible not to have heard certain songs, like this one. With that in mind... This is a great reaction video. The man is talented on camera and real in the moment. Look forward to seeing what you're putting out in a year or two!
They were already sort of popular with earlier albums... like the song "Photograph." That one made them big on mtv in the early eighties. Elliott wore a British flag shirt that went viral.
I actually saw DL when they were up and coming and the only album they had out was On Through The Night and Rick Allen had both arms. They opened for Blackfoot and have seen them 5x in the 80's & 90's
Def Leppard are legit one of the biggest selling bands of all time. Even last year they lead one of the biggest co-headlining stadium tours of the year, with Motley Crue.
Friggin’ right! ❤
There's a true story movie. Its amazing.
12 MILLION copies of this album were in USA ALONE!! 🇬🇧🇺🇸🎸 The band is still going 47 years after forming and our touring in 2023!!
I always enjoy when someone realizes what Rick Allen is doing halfway through a song ❤️🤘👍🔥💥
That's one of the things that's so special about them as a band.
Rick said when he was in the hospital he was depressed because his career was over
The others came to visit him and all said, we're family and you're not going anywhere.
They took time off touring and after he healed he designed his drum kit with extra foot pedals.
I was waiting for you to spot it!
The look on his face when he realized he's watching a one armed drummer!!!!! Priceless.
This band always gets props from me for not abandoning their brother.
About the drummer, they created an organ style foot pedals like two octaves worth so that he can play bass drum parts, as well as Tom, Tom Phils
Actually, that car accident was a couple weeks after his 21st birthday
Trish actually according to Joe Elliot Rick join the bad at 14 but didn't start touring with them at 15 bc they did a whole year of nothing but practices before there first gig at a high school
Def Leppard was is the band . Many hits under their belt. Rock Of Ages. Love Bites, Animal, Hysteria, Foolin, Photograph, just to name few. Seen them 4 times and they put on a show, and still recording music and out on tour with Motley Crew. Go down the rabbit hole.
They still are the band and my number one band among my other favorite bands.
Rock of ages and foolin are my favorite, but they are all so good. It's almost hard to pick.
@@aprilnewsome1932 so very true
My favorite band. They are not just one of those nostalgia acts. And now their fan base is becoming younger.
It's only number 2 because Michel Jackson released an album at the same time. For both of their biggest albums.
Def Leppard is one of only 5 bands to have 2 albums go double diamond .
what are the other 4?
One of the all-time favorite songs of strippers everywhere. This made a lot of money for a lot of women workin' the pole. 😂😂😂
It really was a great album-their best, IMO. And of course I had it on cassette as well! Just can’t recall what is cost, so ya got me there. 😂
Def Leppards 2nd album High and Dry is awesome as well.
I had second row seats for in the round in Edmonton
Drew; FYI; What does pouring sugar mean?
That's right! "Pour Some Sugar on Me" has to do with sexual gratification. The song is about urging someone you're fond of to get nasty with you and do what you like. Not to sound like an old fogey, but songs back in the day used to employ the use of metaphors when discussing more intimate predilections.
Thanks Trish!
What an eloquent response. 🤘🏻🍀
Cocaine...they added in the sex references
I couldn't have said it better. 👍
A lot of Def Leppard's songs are about sex. Let It Go is one of the most overt.
XD
It amazes me how so many Rock legends became legends in their 20s. I wasn't that powerful in my 20s. I'm powerful now! 😆😆❤️✌️
Def Leppard was the best concert I ever went to! The stage in the middle was so awesome! This is one of my fave songs, and I sing it in karaoke lol
Rick is still up there in his shorts playing live toaday and solo !the whole band is so amazing
@@jerryactrik1901 just shows how much you know!
Rick is faster and better than I am with both arms.. Absolutely amazing .
Enjoyed your reaction! Not a lot of reactors notice the 1 arm drummer! Appreciate that!! Keep it coming 😊.
I'm from Sheffield great band still listening to them today
Rick Allen's drum solo's are sick!!!! That's how great of a drummer he is!!!!
Check out their new album! 65 and still killin it! They went out on tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett in summer of 2022 and ranked 4th on top selling tours of the summer
Saw them in San Fran and all acts still know how to put asses in seats
I was at the Indy show. It was amazing and Def, Joan and Poison sounded the same as always. I dont know what was wrong with Crue. We left 4 songs into the set. They sounded horrible!
Hysteria took over 3 years to record. The LP had to sell at least 5mil units to break even.... by Christmas 87 sales had stalled around 3 mil units. They released Pour Some Sugar On Me in early spring and LP sales exploded, averaging 500K weekly during the run of that single alone.
THE BAND WAITED FOR HIM TO RECOVER AND LEARN TO PLAY WITHOUT HIS ARM, , THEY STUCK TOGETHER!!! AWESOME WORK!!🥰🥰🌹🌹
,❤❤❤❤❤❤🎶🎸
And what a delightful rabbit hole it is, especially some of the deep cuts.
Ah, sugar
Oh, honey, honey
You are my candy girl
Oh-oh-oh-oh, sugar
Pour a little sugar on it, honey
Pour a little sugar on it, baby
Make your life so sweet, yeah, yeah, yeah
And you got me wanting you
I was actually in the concert when it was filmed in McNichols Arena in Denver Colorado.
It was snake pass between Bradford and Manchester he was on the way to a new year party in Manchester when the accident happened
When a cougar loses her hearing you end up with a deaf leopard.
I didn't realise he was the main lyricist too. I thought he just did most of the guitar parts.
@@anastas6179 I thought that was the case.👍
Steve created the riffs that formed the basis for many of their songs. However, most of the songs on their early albums were a collaborative effort. Joe Elliott was the principal lyricist. But that should never diminish the contributions of the other members.
I just went to one of their concert last year....that still sound awesome
The drummer had a special drum set built just for him.
So glad you love it. I've been loving it for decades!!!!
It’s a southern thing. When your grandma wants a kiss, she says, “C’mere and gimme some sugar.”
I had this on cassette tape 1987
Seen them this year they still rocked
I love your reactions. I grew up to Def Leppard they have one hell of a band.. I hope someday you'll get headphones omigosh it makes such a huge difference when you have those on.. great reaction😊
Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands of all time, seen them live 3 times! They are absolutely amazing :-). I just found you for you reaction to Love of my Life ❤. I love how you research and give thoughts after you’ve watched/listened. I’m now subscribed and am looking forward to your next reaction!!
Thank you Shannon! ❤️
Hi, I’m relatively new here and I’m having a blast going through your reactions🎉 the way we danced to this song would have got us grounded for life😂😂
I love when you are speechless 🤣🤟
One of my favorite bands then and now. 😊❤
That Video was filmed in Denver Colorado, this was there first concert using the round stage. There is a video that shows the entire concert.
since i was a teen in the 80's this is my favorite band of all times.
You made me laugh! “Rick is up there in his DRAWERS”!
Them not giving up on Rick and waiting on him to figure it all out raised the love of this group to levels unmatched.
I have seen them in concert 3 times first time in 1984, 1988 and then last time 2022 at the stadium tour in Atlanta and they are amazing
It's the syncopation between the drums and the guitar/vocal lines. Just beautiful to listen to. And ironically, missing an arm actually creates some space in the beat to enhance that effect.
'Love Bites' is their classic ballad, and it was their only single to go to number 1 in the US.
It's also my favourite song of all time.
10:59 It’s funny that you mention Bonham, Rick used to jokingly play like John in rehearsals to make his band-mates smile.
This is a great synopsis of their career.
Back in the '80's when the album first came out, I paid $11.99 for it.
Cassette, Vinyl, or 8 track?
@Hawks he said album
Dude!! you can literally go to the most remote village in North Korea and they know who Def Leppard is!

Hello from Cody Wyoming! I. Was at this concert Denver 1987 ...what a great 2 nights. You're awesome keep it up😁
I cry every time I witness anyone get the drummer part for the first time. Like when you discovered Ray Charles.
MMBxMOB, please more Def Leppard?!! Love your reaction, again!
One of my very favorite bands of all times.
After Rick Allen's accident, he wasn't giving up and the rest of the band waiting on him until he was ready to play again. He had an engineer design his drum kit. Setting up a second foot pedal for his left foot, that his left arm use to play
I didn’t want to quit and I told the guys no worries I’ll use my left foot. We have sold over 100 million copies of this song since it came out.
So much respect for these guys. Iconic song, video, performance. Even the jeans! 🔥💜
With all due respect, I don't think this story ever really happened. I know Def Leppard. I'm not buying this.
Wow! Thanks friend!!!
