The bad times overshadow the good times 10:1. I was secretly drinking last 4th of July. I had a houseful of guests and I felt alone and just wanted to go to bed. I never want to go back to the pain of being actively addicted to alcohol.

One of the reasons I go to AA is to remind me how bad things got. I have a built in forgetter and need to remember this. I think most humans tend to remember good times and forget the bad..

Wine gave me "mad anxiety " everyday and I only had 2 glasses a night. It kept me mad all the time at everyone for no real reason. I just heard that term today and I'm such a better person without it. My husband and I would snap & fight with each other constantly and now we hardly ever get mad at each other. It's worth every drink you don't take.

Nothing beats the shame of being severely hungover on Christmas morning! I always felt like the lowest human being on earth trying to force myself into the Christmas spirit and just feeling like death because I got sloshed the night prior.

I drink the La Croix sparkling waters, they are cheap, no sugar, no calories or sweeteners. I use to hate them when I drank beer everyday but love them now.
I am right there with you! I used to hate them too! Now.... I love them. I can drink a 12 pack of those bad boys in a day! I will put them in a cooler on ice and keep them with me. Very very interesting...nobody can drive a point home like you. I, too, was a lot more fun drunk than sober..but..but....then I used to wake up naked with no memory of anything! God so embarrassing! I don't want to EVER get like that again! I think the nostalgia is a true contributor. Well keep talkin....if it helps you...it sure helps us.

Probably trying to take a shower, or I did and just fell asleep on the floor. I have so many stories that I could tell on here. Some would probably get me a strike!!!! Hahahaha!!!! Hey LD - I think our personalities change which is ok. We’re all looser when we drink, well most people are. We do romanticize alcohol and other substances. It’s the planning, the purchase, make it an event, that’s what you have to get used to living without. Those glory days are long gone for most of us. We need to make new ones without the poison, because at one point we had lots of fun without. Oh LD you’re such an awesome person and a great story teller. Tell those stories, just in a different way, because you’re lovely to be around.

Yes, alcohol sure relaxes your inhibitions and for me being pretty quiet and shy normally, it was a temptation just to relax. Unfortunately I would drink way past overcoming my inhibitions and probably made myself obnoxious.

I think the nostalgia is very honest. Sure, when we used to drink we had a good time. It felt great. Alcohol gives us that amazing feeling. BUT, (this is the other side we used to ignore and we now incorporate into the perspective on alcohol,)but, it will give you that one good feeling, but it will rob you of everything else that life has to offer(including eventually your own life). So sure, you get that one good feeling, but all the thousands of other good things life offers, you don’t get. So I choose to miss out on that one feeling in exchange for everything g else life has to offer. I’m not saying that feeling isint great, but not enough to loose everything.
Also we get so fixated on that one good feeling, that we conveniently forget all the bad that came with it.

Memories do fade…but they fade at their own time…a time will come that your “ muscle memory” fades…bad news is it can take a good long while. You have my prayers, my daughter has set up a Novena, my grand daughter remembers everyone on this channel in her good night prayers…you got us and we got you….
Even after 5 years free I still think of the good times. Beach days, concerts, nights with friends, holidays, all the cocaine and hundreds of drinks with girls for days on end. It's tough man, but I wouldn't trade those days to go back to problem drinking. Not one. Keep playing it forward. What would happen? How would this one drink make me feel? It's a slippery slope to oblivion. This is a mourning stage for you (usually 2 years or so). It gets easier man trust me. IWNDWYT!! ODAAT! Glad you're starting a pump! It's going to help! Have a nice 4th!

Thanks for talking about this today! I've been having a difficult week as well with the cravings. I’d lose everything. I’m feeling better but still so tired & just not happy or goofy like normal. Our 4th has been like any other day. “R” is working & big “R” caught up on work from home. They both go back tomorrow too. Crazy. I’ll prob be in bed at 8again. It’s too hot to go outside.

Thats the trouble with anything that gives you that instant gratification. You have to pay the price after the fun. Everyone wants the reward first, and to not do the hard work first to earn something good. We can forget how alcohol works, its reward first pay later.

Keep in mind I hangover really last about three days and it’s not even an exaggeration. There are other aspects after the part where you can’t move without puking. Then there’s the domino effect of the following night sleep. Even if you do it just one time even if you do it just one time and manage not to puke.
Recovery back to a productive setpoint where you feel good as a sober person it’ll take at least 72 hours for me

Sounds like a good idea to keep a list in your phone of the bad things associated with alcohol . . . I don't know anything about diabetes, but it sounds like having an insulin pump will help avoid mistakes in dosing and dangerous crashes. Hope it goes smoothly!! Sorry about your pancreatic situation, but good to hear you have the insulin pump in the pipeline. I really struggle with finger pricking for blood glucose readings, so have also been prescribed a CGM, and fitted it this evening. It’s the Libre 2, and only lasts for 14 days, but I think that it will prove to be a useful tool for monitoring my situation. The downside of CGM’s is the fact that you keep checking your phone for the latest reading 🙄.
I’m off for another MRCP if my pancreas on Saturday, and then I’ll hopefully get a treatment plan. I’ve done one fecal elastase test that came back with moderate insufficiency, but they want me to do one more before prescribing enzymes (Usually Creon).
Despite all you’re going through, I think you’re looking well, though I appreciate that off-camera, you have many challenges.
Ask your specialist to confirm that you’re not type 3c rather than 1. This is more common with chronic pancreatitis, but requires different tests. Feel-free to message if you need more information.
Stay strong (As will I), and greetings from what’s clearly a milder U.K climate (70-80 degrees).

Maybe when you get some more experience being sober and hanging out with your family you'll find comedy in the things they do. When my kids were little, it's a wonder nobody choked because at dinnertime we'd usually all end up rolling around on the floor we'd be laughing so hard at something! We weren't drunk or intoxicated in any way, but if anybody saw us they would probably have thought we were... My husband had this incredible wit, and I was so serious, but it rubbed off onto me somehow. Our daughters just inherited it.

Great video. Man im wondering if you regret being drunk all the time when your kids were little? Whenever i see pictures or videos of my kids when they were babies it breaks my heart. Beacause i wasted those years in a drunken fog and wasnt there for them. And now they are gone and are now teenagers and i can never go back and fix it. It makes me feel physically ill with sadness regret and.even anger towards myself when i think about it. Maybe you could do a video about it?

LD nothing romantic about it. You can do all those things with diet coke. I have lived a life of success by not drinking. Prior to that a lived a life of shame, guilt , embarrassment. Would never have achieved a thing if I had not quit. Like I've told you. I only think of the bad bad bad times. You got this buddy!!!!

I get the whole summer thing. I’m a Harley guy, the bike is programmed to automatically find all the watering holes. Really hard to just go out for a nice ride without getting triggered.

@@liverdisease-qb6rk he’s 10, so he doesn’t remember not having it- but it’s brought alot of freedom to them all as a family, as well as piece of mind for my Son & DIL, when he’s away from their care for any length of time. All of us (parents & grandparents) are alerted via our phones if he’s out of range!
Just remember the times that you were hospitalized and how physically and emotionally you felt. This is the easier softer way.

I had bad binge yesterday 😢 I had blood work done and when the Dr told me my liver is good i decided to celebrate with alcohol. Bad idea. Had no sleep and at work this morning hangover. Yeah no thanks

The guilt about what I done to myself and what I have to go through
Is too much sometimes for me. I can't stop thinking about the days I wasn't sober. How I Miss it yet I hate myself for what damage I did that irreversible. It's such a tough thing to think about
Hi LD. Diabetes sounds complicated.
My 'good times' with booze ceased many many moons ago. I have just drunk at home alone for years now, with just the one aim in mind...oblivion. I can not romanticise about any memories during the last decade of my booze abuse, none, it was purely a selfish act I carried out to avoid the realities of living. Occasionally other people might be involved via the phone (this would result in me later wishing my phone had a breathalyser attached to it !?). The shame and regret of it all, truly awful.
One positive, to the position I now find myself in, is that I don't have to worry about other people affecting my new found sobriety. I didn't go to the pub (so I can't miss that), I actually have no friends anymore (I purposely removed them to enable my oblivion). So my self imposed isolation has made things a bit easier when it comes to stopping. It means I don't have to make excuses to anyone for not drinking or not attending an event etc. I don't want to go back to lone drinking, there is nothing nostalgic about it for me (but if I am truthful I suppose oblivion does still sound attractive...weird hey, the madness of it all).
I am moving house soon, I am moving to a completely new area and I am going to turn this situation around with re-starting a hobby of mine, I am excited about this. I am hoping to create some fresh memories which I can look back on, create some nostalgia truly worth having (I would suggest nostalgia can be a very positive thing).
LD, your idea of a list of why not to drink is great, I just might do that. I hope your cravings settle down soon, they are the worst, get that list written!

Restarting a hobby in a new place sounds like a great idea. I too, let go of my drinking friends which were all the friends I had,but I have gotten used to being alone and quite like it. I do exercise at home and go to a gym for classes but prefer not to go out and socialize. Another day down without drinking is the best feeling.
@@kerrymeadows Hi Kerry, I am hoping my hobby may involve making a few new friends, however I have always been pretty happy in my own company. I definitely do not want to be surrounded with drinkers or visiting places which are centred on alcohol. You are so right about the feeling of another day without a drink, it leaves you with no regrets, no shameful behaviour, just a feeling of achievement (even if you have achieved nothing / very little). I never drank or had any interest or problems with alcohol until I went through trauma at 35. I’m 48 now and stopped drinking. I don’t understand why I developed a problem after going through trauma?

Get yourself the taste of gourmet soda and put it on ice. I’ve been using soda water mixed with grape juice because I’m a wino in the summer.

7:00 Im suffering exactly this issue. I'm fun to be around with booze and fairly melancholic otherwise.
I used to say to myself: I'd never have got any of my girlfriends to if it weren't for alcohol use, or alcohol reliance.
But now , the difference is , having burnt thru many relationships since I discovered booze, and having a diagnosis of LD , i I realise having a girlfriend is not the holy grail anyway!
My theory is that this is exactly why such a high ratio of alcoholics are men - the tension between the need to be loved and tbe difficulties some people have relating or empathising.
Alcohol is not a sustainable solution.

I so agree with this, LD. It's easy to trick yourself into thinking only about the positive memories associated with alcohol when you're getting a craving or confronted with temptation. I do this all the time. But when I was close to quitting, alcohol just zapped me of my energy and my ability to think. It just made everything harder. And I can say that every time I caved after initially quitting, it remained that same effect. There's literally no benefit to drinking anymore. I hope everyone has a wonderful day today.
