I just reached a year … bourbon as well & anything bottle & bond & if it didn’t cost 80/ 100 bucks a bottle I wasn’t having it.. what a fucking struggle life was with this shit, relationships crumbled my hobbies where just talked about wile sitting on a bar stool, turned into a 280 pound, size 40 load ..texting a 🥃 bourbon glass at 1030 am to my ol’lady as I’m still hammered from the night before of what we’re doing tonight…The reality finally sunk in one year after i had a sonogram of my fatty liver,(never slowing down)that If I continue down this road not to mention my kids telling me I’m going to “DIE” daily wasn’t enough I don’t know what is..After all that shit I wrote why wouldn’t you want to quit.you matter to someone that loves you more then yourself !! I never comet on any of this but wanted someone to hear my story too.. ❤

Yeah I was a fairy successful maintenance drinker but heavy for 40 years then I went heavier, couldn't deal with hangovers any more so started morning drinking and that was the end. Within two years I was in my first of 4 detox stays. Wheeled in. Couldn't hold a pen to write or take meds. Now sober 3 full years plus 2 years where I had two short but devastating relapses. Its a tricky substance alcohol is. Things feel stable now. Not stressing over being sober or wanting a drink. Just feeling like me again. I tell you these stories and videos are as helpful as aa to me. Worlds of beautiful recovery stories. Amazing. Congratulations to you.

I lost my Dad to Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. His death certificate doesn't say "cirrhosis of the liver", it says "alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver". He was more than that but that is what is on his death certificate. He also worked hard and got up early. He would get up at 5am every morning whether he was working or not. When he was working, he would handle his shit and come home. He would make dinner and begin drinking. He would crush 9-12 beers before bed. He would go to bed early and get up early and repeat. He grew out of beer and switched to Vodka. He would crush a fifth an evening, often with lemonade and ice. He was well respected and made decent money. We all just thought he was stressed because of his work, we all knew he was a savage when it came to drinking and we all just figured that is how he coped with the grind. After he retired, he had nothing to keep him from drinking all day. He still got up early around 5am. He would be productive for a couple hours and then start drinking. We all thought he would slow down after he retired, the reality is that he had nothing to stop him from drinking all day since he didn't have to work. He died with a lot of regrets, he told me it wasn't worth it. He worked his entire life, only to enjoy his retirement for six years. I miss him everyday, he had a lot of bullshit he tried to drink past. I did ten years and three tours of combat in the Army and we used to say "some shit you just gotta drink past". There is no "drinking past shit". We are better off without it.

You pretty much just told my story. Except I put a pint glass full of vodka on my nightstand to drink throughout the night as I’d get DT’s every few hours. I put a straw in it because my shakes were too bad to pick up a glass. I too was F&B and when I got to work I drank a few rocks glasses full of straight vodka. I’d also take my to go cup into the walk in and fill it up with the cheap box cooking wine. I did this all day just to feel normal. I also drank jager out of a coffee mug and blow on it like it was hot coffee at red lights so people would think I was drinking coffee. This was normal behavior to me. I also filled water bottles with rumple and guzzle it like it was water. I threw up constantly. I’d pull over and throw up in parking lots. But it was never food as I couldn’t eat food. I couldn’t swallow it. It was liquor and foam. I had a hernia from dry heaving for years. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
In August I’ll be 14 years sober. If not for sobriety I’d for sure be dead.

Female, 47 years old, New York
I watched a few videos about how alcohol metabolized by the body. The reason I sought out that information is that I have a hangover after just a couple of drinks over dinner, and I want to not engage with social drinking. Alcoholism could never happen to me because my system rejects alcohol due to its inability to metabolze it. So when your video popped up, I just listened out of curiosity as I prepare dinner.
I decided to take time and express my respect for what you’ve been able to overcome. And more respect for your willingness to tell the world about what you’ve been through. It’s a Hero’s journey, and you are there supporting others on that same path.
Best of health and happiness to you, young man.

I'm just shy of a month sober from fourth attempt at detox and sobriety. Round the clock drinker. Only thing I have to add to your routine is my body would start to go into withdrawal if there was a two hour gap between drinks. So, at my worst would drink myelf to sleep, catch two to three hours best case of horrid restless sleep, wake up vomit at 3:00 AM, pound a half dozen standard drinks to get back to sleep (usually a valium to cap it off) smoke a bunch of cigarettes, pass out, wake at 5:00 AM vomit mostly bile (as I'd only ever have food in the evening if at all) three sets or until there was nothing but dry wretching going on. Make myself an Irish coffee and my partner a normal espresso. She'd hit the road for work at 6:30 and I'd get loaded all day until she got home. Sling some green, at the pub or from home and busk/gig the local pubs and clubs. Rinse and repeat. I could feel every organ labouring. Was pissing out of evey orifice. Anxiety went through the roof everytime I wasn't baseline lubed up. My LFT was 2700! (Normal functioning liver is ideally around 60-70). In the last three years I've been to professional detox 3 tines and this most recent time from home. I lasted 3 months dry first time round, then close to five, then close to six the time before this. This time I've been clean a month come Sunday. I feel you man. I've kicked heroine, speed, benzos etc. Booze is the hardest of the lot all told. The most positive thing about suffering through kicking habitual drinking is how quickly you see the results, the reward for the pain, in health both mental and physical and the strain it takes off those who love you and have had to watch the snail paced suicide (and that being just those facets you can't hide from them). It's mind boggling when you consider how much a part of regular life it is. Imagine if society treated smack in the same way, with the same legality, accessibility, and acceptance as alcohol! It's unthinkable. But booze is far from a soft drug. It's a liquid nerve toxin made from microbial waste products and it's cheap and readily available on every other corner and you can barely watch TV or surf the net without it popping up in your field of vision multiple tines on the daily. It's a slog, no joke. Best of luck sticking to whatever gets you over it people xMx

Be very proud of yourself for making this video.
I can't imagine how much courage it takes to be this honest in a video.
I don't drink at all. I am 54 and have been a sober man all of my life.
But, the reason I watched your video, is because I lost my younger brother (42) in 2016 in part to alcoholism.
When you mentioned throwing up every morning, I almost started to shed a tear. Because, my brother and I lived together at the time of his passing. And I could hear him throwing up in bathroom in every morning.
    I miss my brother tremendously.
I dream about him now and again.
I wish he was here today, to make a video just like yours, triumphant in conquering his alcohol addiction. But he's no longer on this planet.
I for you and your family all the best.

I doubt it means the end.
Because my brother did this for years. It was part of his morning, unfortunately.
My brother's end came when, one morning in particular, he did not feel well.
      He went to Emergency room.
They misdiagnosed him, giving some medicine to drink over the weekend.
When in actuality, my brother had either a stomach or intestinal ulcer that was leaking into his body and blood creating sepsis.
He went to Emergency on Friday morning.
Spent weekend at home in his room drinking stomach medicine.
By sunday afternoon, he was going into a coma or something, hardly mobile.
      Sepsis was overloading his organs.
An ambulance took him out of house.
He was in hospital with a tube in his throat for exsctly 7 days, when he passed away on the next Sunday.
It was horrible to witness it all. And so helpless.
It is why I implore every alcoholic reading this, fight the good fight!
You all must and can beat the alcohol demon(s) for your sake first and foremost, but also...
for your loved ones who will miss you terrubly should alcohol take your life.

I appreciate you sharing this. This sounds so much like my cousin's daily life before he passed from cirrhosis. He would start his day with a drink because he got the shakes if he didn't, and it made him nervous to drive because he'd swerve a lot if he drove sober. By that point, he had 2 DUIs and was afraid to get another. It made him equally nervous to drive after his morning drink, but he felt trapped. He also needed to have a drink to sleep, but it was never restful sleep. He went through the same rough mornings as you; intense heartburn, vomiting, the constant diarrhea. For the longest time, we had no idea how much he was suffering. I wish he could have gotten better. Your videos bring me a kind of comfort I didn't expect. It's good to know that there are people who can recover.

Advice from personal experience; you better start eating something while drinking, and don't drink on an empty stomach. Those stomach ulcers ain't fun, and more importantly; you will have to lay off the drink for about a month for those to heal enough for you not to vomit up blood actively. You don't need that.

It selfish !! You are being selfish to your family I got the dreaded phone call 2 am that my big brother had died !! The finality of hearing that message still gives me the chills Death is so final Nothing more could be done I just kept crying hugging my husband to me saying he’s dead he dead he’s dead My brother is dead I don’t have a sibling anymore I’m the last of my original family of 4
I hope someone reading my story will understand the heart break of losing a brother so young If I can help one person from a terrible death then my brothers life won’t me in Vain or make them think about how bad drinking huge amounts of vodka does it does I remember the first time he was admitted into hospital
A nurse chatting to me She said how much do you know about your brother condition and I said I know he’s an alcoholic he will get better now since he’s been hospitalised She said I’m sorry I need to speak to you about this ! How much do you understand Your brother said I have permission to tell you this She said even if your brothers stopped drinking today and never touches alcohol again He’s going to die !! I remember squealing No ! No! No! That’s a lie isn’t it Your not being truthful to me And she shook her head and said Your brother organs are all failing !
He was on a knife edge many times ! He had tear in his oesophagus 3 times and needed surgery all of those times They would dry him out in the hospital and he would buy alcohol on the way home !! but he eventually he did die for real ! His wife was going to put him in a nursing home but he died suddenly and I have never been able to come to terms with it forever and ever I hope and pray you get help before it’s too late

94 days clean today and I'm so so grateful to be here. I found this story really touching because I could totally relate to the insanity that my life had become. Planning my entire day around drinking to avoid feeling awful/withdrawal symptoms. There is so much joy to be had and life to live in sobriety, so anyone can do it!! Just surround yourself with a good recovery community and work at it every single day. You can do it!!

I drank beer every day from the age of 20 years old to the age of 57. A functioning alcoholic I'd say. Worked hard in a hot factory for 35 years. Most of my co-workers followed suit. Work hard, play hard. When the 8 hour day was done, it was a run to the beer store every night after work. You see, I would buy a quart of beer every night for the ride home, (12 miles), then I had plenty of beer when I got there. I consumed 6-12 beers every night from 11:30pm to 2-3 am, plus the quart. I woke up at 7am every morning. Work at home got done. Bills got paid, and I never drank before work, or, during work, ever. I retired. Ran into some irregular heartbeat issues, started a heart medication and quit drinking. I just quit. I still have 20 beers in my beer fridge. I'm not sure why because I'll never drink again. I've never told anybody this and I'm not sure why I just did. The video showed up in my feed and I watched it. I guess I'm just so stubborn and the hate I would have for myself if I drank again, keeps me on the path I need to be on. I wish all of you well with whatever cross you have to bear. Thanks for the video. It is part of your journey.

So many times I wanted to call in sick and stay home, but usually I would drag myself to work, or wherever I needed to be. My physical health may not have suffered, but every other ramification i can empathise with - the deceit, lies, anxiety, shame, self-loathing, anger. It's inspires me greatly that even amidst the most intense adversity, you're pulling through, looking great and doing good things to raise awareness amongst the wider addict community. I never thought I’d have a problem with alcohol but, it has gotten worse over the years. Last night I had two glasses of wine and 5 beers after I finish work around 10pm. And that has been the norm for about 6 months now. I did take a break for a whole month, then my birthday came around one drinks leads to another, then one day turned into drinking everyday for months. I do believe that this is the early stages of alcoholism and if I don’t stop it will get worse. But luckily, one of my other addiction is going to the gym, so no matter how many drinks I have the night before, I would always drag myself to the gym. I had my last drink last night and I will cut of this addiction right here. Because I know my health will deteriorate, and I know me feeling numb 24/7 isn’t good for relationships and this has affected me in the pass with ex gf. I never knew what it was but now I know, it wasn’t that the relationship never worked. But it was me not feeling anything. If you’re struggling right now you can stop. No many how far you are. ❤

I started Friday night and drank til Sunday night. Weekends for 5 years, straight. That doesn't mean I never drank during the week, I started after 5 when I got home and made myself stop at 11pm. I had to. I was petrified to be homeless and that was my drive to finally get to dexox and then rehab. Best thing I ever did. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom, strength and courage. Proud of you!!

Do it before it is too late.
My brother died at 36 due to Liver failure. All because of alcohol.
6 weeks in intensive care. 2 weeks in a coma. 2 heart attacks. They couldnt stabilise his Liver so was given morphine as a way to be able to comfortably leave this reality.
Sadest thing was, he was ill for weeks beforehand and didnt tell anyone about it (he lived 600 miles from me so not easy to drop in to see him).
By the time he was taken to hospital, it was too late. He had been ouking so much his voice box was permanently damaged, so he couldnt even speak in hospital.
To anyone on the same path as my brother - Realise that your actions have consequences beyond just yourself. There are people that will be affected by your actions.
His death will be the most painful experience of my life. That pain will be with me fir the rest of my existence. I no longer have a sibling, the dreams of getting older and playing backgammon together on a porch are gone.

My brother died on 6/28/24. We didn't know it, but he was in the end stage of cirrhosis and chronic pancreatitis. We had seen his on Mother's Day and knew he was shockingly I'll. He was thin, sedate, didn't eat, totally not himself. His color was yellowish grey. I knew something was terribly wrong. It was a very quick visit as we met at our Mom's in Colorado, him from Northern Wyoming, and us from Phoenix. Three weeks later, we got a call that he was in the ICU in liver failure in WY. Husband and I flew up the next day and stayed with him about a week. His condition was horrifying. He had hepatic encephalopathy, further weight loss, bruises over his arms...
We had to leave back to our jobs, and he had improved to get admitted to a regular care floor. I called almost every day to talk. He was discharged on 6/20/24, and drove 5 hours to southeast Wyoming to a rehab facility to gain strength and then into alcohol rehab. He passed away there on 6/28/24. He was only 48. He was a wonderful soul. Always seemed happy, we so intelligent and unique. I wish I could have known what triggered him to drink...I want to say I would have tried to stop him, but I know the reality. I am gutted. I'm so traumatically sad learning about the suffering he went through alone. I had no idea how sick he was. I don't know if I will ever get over it.

It's so obvious how much you love your family, how much they love you, and how you have worked to support them, it can be very stressful and overwhelming to support a family. Dear Brother…I literally have no words to describe your honesty and openness with this video. Although I was never a morning drinker, I completely understand some of the things you referenced…on the toilet for at least 30 minutes (that still happens often unfortunately…sorry for the TMI…lol), being afraid to drive to work (out here in Metropolitan Phoenix AZ we don’t have any back roads, so I had to navigate the freeway…uggg)…the sitting on the back porch drinking and smoking after work until I couldn’t drink or smoke anymore…the excitement and also DREAD of having a day off and having to deal with the “return to work day”…I called off MANY of those days…it was a nightmare!!! Those days are over, as I am practicing the Sinclair Method to control my drinking. I don’t know how I survived it, and I NEVER want to be there again! God Bless You Brother…YOU are an inspiration to MANY!

I would always come home after work, have a shower, and shit out yesterday’s hangover, and drink on the toilet for a few hours. So sad 😅. Even had my speaker and phone plugged in with a bucket bong next to me. A tragic ritual.

This video brings back memories and makes me feel so grateful for almost 3 years free of alcohol. That was the one thing that really caused too loose control. Alcoholism is a brutal cycle to be stuck in. If you’re going through it, do whatever it takes to get sober. It’s possible, don’t loose hope. If you’re going through withdrawals, go to the hospital and seek help from the ER.

Watching this is like listening to my own life for the past 4 years.. almost everything you were talking about I was doing as well.. eventually I ended up drinking myself into alcohol induced psychosis and ended up having some close friends of mine take me to a detox facility.. I’m now two weeks sober and I feel so much better. I’ve been to the doctor twice since I left that place and my liver enzymes are pretty bad but not to the point where they can’t be fixed, but I’m 26 years old and have already done that much damage to my body. So please listen to this man!! If any of y’all are going through this and think you can’t get sober you’re wrong! It’s a rough road to go down but I promise you will feel so much better. Dying from alcoholism is not any kind of way to go out. ❤
