    They don't like it because you've done something that they know they can't probably do, which makes you a stronger person. I remember getting that years ago when I quit smoking, some people were jealous. Never stop being proud of your sobriety. I'm still proud of myself that I quit cigarettes 31 years ago. Just look at them and say, wow its been 2 years, you haven't moved on from it yet???

    What you are describing is an ugly part of human nature. You are right on with the fact that this is jealousy and their own guilt. It's the same as when someone loses weight, rather than be happy for you they degrade you. They have a huge problem with insecurity, and it's not you.
    You might have to just let them go.
    LD, I am 65 and was a rebellious teenager there are still some people close to me who will not let me forget! Let it go LD and let them go. We all support you and are so proud of. I am truly sorry that you are hurt. I am one who knows what it feels like. I love you

    Hey G, the old saying still holds true. Misery loves company 😢 3 months ago when I was drinking I had a drinking buddy. I thought after I quit he would still remain my friend. He's not mean or anything when I do see him, he just acts like he doesn't want to be around me anymore. That hurts my feelings. I think he feels like we have nothing in common even though I could stay sober around him and would still like his company. I guess that's why they say you got to get new friends. They are jealous that you have moved on with your life whereas theire drinking has them stuck in an emotional rut. By referring to your past, they want to pull you back with them. You are no longer part of the club and there is both jealousy and fear. If you value their friendship then you may have to confront them about their behavior.

    Maybe this person feels judged because they still drink. I know you aren't judging them. It's completely on them if they feel that way because they know deep down they are not living their best life and they see what it did to you...and they continue to drink. It's their own insecurity. Deflected onto you.
    And some people don't want others to better themselves. Or have faith in others.

    I can relate 100% to how hard it is to get sober and you should definitely be really proud of that. I also experienced the same kind of treatment from certain people that I know that still drink, and don’t seem that happy for me now that I’m sober. I honestly think it’s because it’s a glaring reminder to them that they want to stop drinking too, but they don’t have the willpower to do so. So there’s a bit of resentment there. It’s not personal for them, but it forces them to doubt themselves and self reflect.

  • @vincewarren1271
    @vincewarren1271 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I have experienced this but in a different way. I got botched on an operating table 15 years ago and ended up needed a dozen more surgeries to make my injuries better and basically ended up crippled during that span. I was an athlete prior to it happening so getting jealousy or hate wasn't out of the norm. While injured, some of my biggest critics became my friends it seemed. Maybe they felt better about themselves while I was down. Long story short I got back into the gym many years later and rehabbed my injuries (still doing that) and became a bodybuilder during the journey. The same people who once seemed to be on my side had suddenly gone back to the other side. The snotty comments started all over again followed by "I'm just joking." But you can sense the vibe. Back then I said exactly what you said here in this video. It's not that they're bad people or don't support you, it can be just that they have their own lives to pertain to and battles to win as well. But yet, even with that said, you can sense the jealous vibe. At 35, I no longer worry about it. I don't give them any grief or negativity in return, I just nod my head and continue pushing forward with my life and workouts. And yes, these will be the closest people in your life. Not much you can do but try and keep the peace and push forward. If they continue to be a problem in your journey, begin to phase them out. I know it's sad, but it's necessary to continue your journey for whatever it is you're battling or trying to accomplish in life.

      @liverdisease-qb6rk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am so sorry to hear that happened to you. That's just a shame. Definitely sounds like jealously. Why would they be like that after you worked so hard to get your body back right again? If people would focus their energy on bettering themselves rather than giving someone else a bunch of grief, they could do so much positive for themselves. Guess that's not how the world works.... just sad. I hate it. But that's probably what I am going to have to do. Thank you so much for your advice and sharing your story! God bless😊😊😊😊

      @@liverdisease-qb6rk no problem. It was a very confusing time of my life especially because I was so young at the time. I felt confused and then eventually a state of madness for awhile. My demeanor changed for a bit. Now it's not as difficult as it once was. I just decide in the moment whether or not their criticisms are valid or not and whether or not it's worth trying to control the outcome or just consider it water under the bridge and move on. For the most part, I just turn a cheek now (I move on). Any sort of reaction just delays my journey.

      @@amandaflaherty7528 yes. It's sort of the under dog story. I literally have no choice but to continue pushing forward and working out. Rehabbing injuries and turning a cheek. Many people have the option of choosing to react, I really don't. It just delays my journey which I already understand is a very long one. Criticisms seems so small compared to the uphill battles I have to face on a daily basis. I suppose some may call it wisdom. I'm not sure. I just prefer to fight the good fight.

    You look bothered. Don't let it eat you up. Let it go. Thoughts like that can be corrosive. We all have to follow our own path. You have to take into account that deep down, their drinking may be worrying them. In some ways, if they can play-down the fact that you achieved what you did then it makes their drinking seem less of an issue. It is the same with mates who smoke when you give up smoking. It makes them feel better about themselves. You should be proud of yourself. I'm proud of you. You have helped a lot of people. Ignore them or just laugh it off. I think the “normal” drinkers or non drinkers feel like because they didn’t drink like we did that we somehow deserve our health problems. In those minds it’s “well you did it to yourself” and “I don’t have to drink all day every day” so they find it hard to be sympathetic or to be happy for the little things we have come to know and appreciate SO MUCH.
    You should be proud, and your viewers are proud of you, happy for you, and so incredibly happy that those results came back good!
    Even some alcoholics don’t understand. My husband got sober before I did. I celebrated every day he stayed sober and then when I decided to quit it was like I was on my own. I think he hated that part of himself so much that he found it difficult to offer any support for me when I was in that same spot.
    Also I think some people just automatically think that because they’re not a heavy drinker that they’re automatically better than we are. Recovering alcoholics are the most intelligent, grateful, understanding and self aware people I know. We become a threat to them.
    I’m sorry you had to go through that. It’s just another consequence of our actions we learn to realize. We are all proud of you and happy for you!! ❤

      Love this!! I hadn't thought of it that way, but I think you're right. It's so easy to talk to everyone here because we're here for our health. Even those in this community who don't have alcoholism are coming from a place of wanting to understand, or have addictions themselves, or just want to improve their health! So knowing there's no judgment and (mainly) only cheering going on in here makes it easier to talk. Great observation. You're so right. Hope you have a great day! ❤

    We understand thoroughly that you are not pushing towards anyone. If they choose to see you that way, it is on them. Please don't stop what you do for so very many of us. You do absolutely nothing wrong. Perhaps they remind you of your past, because that is where they still are. Thank God, you are past that. I have experienced these feelings from both sides, while drinking and sober. No one thinks you are bringing this hurt on yourself. It is coming from them alone. I believe a friend can be happy for you no matter what the situation. That should be a given. If not, better examine that relationship. It smells a bit like sour grapes. You are getting positive feedback from people who believe in you. Who is giving them strokes? Probably no one, since they haven't earned it. Love you and prayers for those who haven't seen the light of sobriety. It is a gift to have survived the process. No wonder others are jealous and trying to keep you down. I don't have comparable drinking experience to you, but here are my thoughts in general: 1) Unless the person/people you were talking about are close relatives, let them drift out of your life. You don't need people in your life who don't let you move beyond your past. Personally, I think it is natural to have a turnover of friends, even close friends, over time. Having gone to the same high school or college or worked together 15 years ago or lived on the same street or shared interests or activities, etc. is not necessarily enough glue for a friendship to keep going especially if one of the persons in the friendship has changed a lot. Maybe it's time to let the friendship wither. If it's a close relative, that's more problematic . . . 2) If you think person X wasn't as excited as you about your not having to have a procedure, is it possible that you didn't convey your concerns (about having a procedure) to person X? Is it possible that person X didn't realize the implications of you getting a good "blood flow result" from your CT scan? 3) It's possible that the people you're talking about are envious not about your sobriety per se but about your channel and the community you've built. Through this channel, you now know people around the world; you are well loved and respected by many people beyond your own local world; and the community is growing quickly. In a sense, you have 5,000+ new friends/supporters. That could well be a source of envy. Those people probably don't have anything close in their lives. 4) All in all, when two people's circumstances change too much, past connections are often not enough to keep a relationship going. Your situation is vastly different than before (sobriety, change of values, maturation of personality, TH-cam success, etc0. If people from the past can't feel happy for you about your new life, it is time to let things wither or at least to speak up and articulate your viewpoint. Good luck figuring things out! I don't think you should let anyone bring you down this way. Finally, thanks very much as ever for your uplifting videos. 🙂🌷❤

    Hey LD, I know exactly how you feel. People can be incredibly insensitive and sometimes the people closest to us don’t really wish the best for us. The saying misery loves company is true. It’s unfortunate, that the individual’s reaction was not what you expected. It looks like this person doesn’t seem to be the best to have around or for you to share your feelings with. The fact that you went quiet should have been an immediate indicator that they hurt your feelings and they should have said something to reinforce that “hey you’ve come a long way and are doing amazing!” I’m very reactive when someone hurts my feeling but I’ve gotten to a point that now I only have family around me, one friend, and my YT friends. That’s it. I share my feelings with you all. I know it can be hard to accept that some people (loved ones) aren’t good for our mental health. Ask yourself does this person add value to my life? If not, distance yourself as much as you can. If you can eliminate do that. If you can’t express yourself without hearing about the past then what’s the point. I’m glad you were able to release those negative feelings. Don’t spend anymore energy on it. On a positive, woot woot on the high speed internet. Stay up my friend, you’re an amazing person. ❤❤❤❤😊

      @@liverdisease-qb6rk absolutely happy to support you as much as you’ve supported me. You’re absolutely a gem LD. Some people just don’t know how to evolve from a relationship the way it was you know? The old days are behind, moving forward is long over due. I had a friend once that we partied hard in our early 20s, well for me it was time to get serious about career and life. I didn’t want to hit the clubs and smoke weed/get wasted. Everything has its time and I was over it. Well she wasn’t and I had to start distancing myself because she was negative. I was afraid that I would get caught up in some of her mess. Well it’s been 17 years or so since I’ve seen or spoken to her. I looked her up one day, she’s has multiple arrests and looks like she’s still partying has all sorts of charges. All sorts of theft, drug, etc. Just now it’s not fun anymore. No career…no life or ambition just misery. I wish she would have listened to me but she wasn’t ready. I made the right decision even though I miss her. Take care my friend. You deserve positive light, no drama.

    I've been in a similar situation LD! There were people like that in my life when I got sober, they are problem drinkers like I was. Always stuck in the past and bringing up old stuff. Unfortunately, I had to stop communicating with them because they would just create drama and bring negativity around me. I think that seeing others sober and doing well makes them have to self-reflect, and it makes them uncomfortable. So they try to bring you down to make themselves feel better. It can be painful to let people go, especially if they are friends/family, but sometimes it's for the best, sadly. Getting sober really is an eye opener because it lets you know who really cares about you and has your best interests in mind.

    When you feel the time is right, calmly explain to this person using the phrase “I feel that when we talk it seems to focus on my past,” etc., etc. I have heard before that it’s harder for the other person to get as defensive with an “I feel “ statement. Hopefully, this person will respond respectfully or maybe even ask some reasonable questions that you feel comfortable answering. If not, I don’t think it is wrong at all to tell this person, that you care for them, but you will not listen to this subject anymore, and then be prepared to follow through. I am drawing from experience on someone who trash talked my father every time there was any kind of friction over things that had taken place 25 years prior. I bit my tongue for years, which made me resentful against this person. I tried to re-direct, but it wasn’t always successful. I wish you the best of luck, and your feelings are completely understandable. I AM PROUD OF YOU AND SO GLAD YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER PROCEDURE 😊🙏🏻

    Many people believe that those who are proud of their sobriety consider themselves 'better' than others. The truth is that those who hold a grudge against you for your sobriety often have drinking problems and either can't or don't want to course correct. It's hard to give up the party forever - it requires determination and support. The fact that you use this very publuc platform to inform others about the dangers of alcohol abuse is just more fuel for their fire. Brush it off and keep up the good work. I have been sober for nearly 10 years and am grateful for all the time I have been present for my family and friends. Sobriety is a gift.

    There is a reason alcohol is called Spirits but not because they are Holy! I have had that experience only twice but both times it was from somebody I had been drinking with. With all love and respect you have to let them know you hear their words and appreciate them but firmly state that that is not who you are now. I keep my GI specialist advice on my mind and that was don’t even think about going to a place/wedding whatever where there will be alcohol . LD it’s our lives at stake so it’s a no brainer. I've never had a problem with alcohol but have known several people who have. You have alot to be proud of and I'm proud and happy for you. I'm sure you have worked hard to get to where you are. Those that seem to be jealous are probably envious that you succeeded and deep down they may be struggling themselves. Don't let them get you down. If they are making you feel upset and bad about yourself. It may be better to not subject yourself to the negativty.. Sometimes we have to guard our own hearts. If you are a praying person, I would keep them in your prayers but keep your distance from them. You are going thru enough. They have the issue, not you. You are the bigger person by not saying anything. If you're like me, you would feel bad and worry more if you say anything. Sometimes it's better to let things go. You are probably correct about jealousy which is what I have experienced whenever I've made a self improvement. I think it's because they wish they had self control like you, so rather than celebrate your self control they try to find something to negate that. Also, they probably miss the old days and miss some parts of the old LD. But don't let that bring you down. You are on a grand path, sometimes you have to keep walking ahead. They are envious of you and the person you are becoming, people only bring up your past when they are intimitaded by your present.. I have def experienced this as well. From my bestie (well ex bestie). I was prepared to lose friends when I quit drinking but I thought it would be because they wouldn't want to be "friends" anymore bc I was boring etc. I wasn't prepared to be the one who didn't care to continue to the friendship anymore. When the alcohol was removed, I think I was able to see this person for who they truly are which was a toxic, negative person. I think one of the most important things we can do to protect our sobriety/new lifestyle is to remove negative/toxic people or at least significantly distance interactions with them.

    This is a good topic though, because it's something everyone should be aware of. If you're still choosing to drink or do whatever you want.........then that's not an excuse to not support people and be happy for them. And if you're the one who has quit something hard and is making positive/healthy choices.......you will absolutely deal with this kind of thing. So being aware of it and knowing how to handle it is important. Stuff like this has caused me to stumble in the past, so it's important to talk about and be aware of. You will absolutely lose some people in your life. Or the nature of your relationships will change. And that's ok. New people and new relationships..........healthier relationships will replace it. But pray for those people, because they do feel guilt and shame.......and we should have compassion for them. But it doesn't mean we have to sit around and listen to the abuse.

    People who get uncomfortable when you start talking about sobriety around them are usually the ones who need help. I remember having a sober manager when I was still in active addiction and I remember avoiding him because I knew he knew I had a problem. Not to mention I’ve had women reject me after finding out I’m an addict which I don’t hold against them. It is what it is man, sobriety definitely filters out the “friends” and “family” you don’t need around anymore.

    Sometimes it's hard to let go of certain people in your life but if they are not in support of your health journey maybe it's time to let them go from your life. You need to keep positive energy in your life, so them reminding you of the place you no longer are makes me believe they are not happy that you are moving forward in a positive way. Yes, some people hate to see others progress or achieve their goals. I would say it's time to just not go out of your way to talk to them if u can't let them go because they are taking you to a bad head space good luck on whatever decision you make.

    I have never liked the taste of alcohol so I don't drink. At least a couple of times over the years I've been in social situations where everyone around me was drinking, and certain individuals tried multiple times to get me to "just take a taste." I got the distinct feeling that me not participating somehow made them feel guilty for drinking. Somehow me being present but conspicuously not drinking activated their guilty conscience. I think it's as simple as that and don't take these sorts of situations personally. Not everyone imbibing is this way, but a small percentage are or can exhibit this behavior.
