@sandman9601 Well, I've been a medical marijuana patient for over 10 years. Before that, I was unhealthy, broke, and had extreme anxiety along with insomnia. Since marijuana I sleep 8 hours a day, got a job paying 350k a year, and my anxiety is gone. Plus, I'm a father of 5. I'm able to keep up with everything. NO marijuana is not what I was taught it was.

I buried my best friend 6 years ago last month. He was 59. He had no family left the last 10 years of his life, so went full tilt on the booze. I was his medical power of attorney as well, so I was a spectator to the progression of signs into symptoms, into full blown end stage cirrhosis. Eventually seizures, coma, etc etc, until one morning at 1am I got the call. He was 400k in medical debt at the time of his death. Unbelievably, he was an organ donor, which i thought was futile, but they harvested, bone, skin, corneas, and all sorts of other things. A young girl received his corneas the next day and regained her vision. I was notified by the donor site that 22 people were served by his donation.

He failed to register for his retiree healthcare plan as his disability insurance ended. He was in the hospital for 28 days with no insurance and accumulated 230k in bills there. Once i discovered he was uninsured, i requested cobra paperwork for him which would have been retroactive for that time period between disability and retiree insurance. All he had to do was sign it and give it to his mail lady who often spent time chatting with him. He told me he did. A year later when he died I discovered he never did and was paying 300 a month towards that bill. I was able to get the hospital to settle for virtually nothing before probating his estate. In the end I had to liquidate his estate and pay 210k for all the remaining bills accumulated over the last 4 years of his life.

I'm 14 months off the sauce. About a month ago, I finally talked to the Dr about the pain in my R upper quadrant I've been having for years. I had an ultrasound/mri 5 ish years ago and it showed an unhappy, nasty fatty/enlarged liver. I didn't stop drinking, and honestly the last 4 years were the heaviest in my drinking career. Daily drinker/vodka/rum every night and countless amounts on the weekends. I was really worried about the damage I did over those 4 years. I was seriously expecting progression of the fatty liver to fibrosis/cirrhosis which is why I didn't go to the Dr. (I know, stupid, but that's what alcohol does). The recent imaging/comparisons showed zero signs of fatty liver/liver disease. Over the last 14 months AF, exercise and eating well, I reversed the damage I did to my liver from the 15ish years of drinking. Lay off the sauce peeps, it is hard but it is worth it. Don't stop trying. I had more day 1's than I can count. Never stop trying.

@@andys2856 Yes, I had ultrasound and MRI imaging/comparison to my prior results. No scarring, fibrosis is reversed, liver is normal size. I will say, even though I didn't quit drinking until Dec 2022, I did do a major change in my diet and fitness starting in October 2019. I guess I did it backwards as far as fitness and nutrition and then quitting drinking later.

My husband passed away from cirrhosis April 2023. It’s a horrific disease. He was only 34. We have three little boys. I’m so glad to see someone talking about this. He was stage 4 by the time he was diagnosed. Looking back there were so many signs we just ignored them. It’s amazing how your body can hold itself together. He was “ok” one day and the next they were telling him he had three months to live.

It’s a terrible disease, that not only effects the patient, but is so difficult for the caregivers & all family. A very hard disease to watch, especially in the end. Something anyone who has watched someone die from cirrhosis, something they’ll never forget!! We finally got a wonderful loving hospice who came in & helped us with end of life issues. It broke all of our hearts, the only thing that gave us peace was knowing we were sinners, broken, but we had a Heavenly Father who forgave us & was waiting for us at the end of our lives. 🙌 Thank you for saving my soul! 🙏🏼💞🙌

But after a long time hospitalised, 30 blood transfusions, 2 paracenteses, CT scans, blood test every day (major protein deficiency), losing 40kg in weight, etc - I finally had a TIPS procedure & I no longer have problems. I was only 23 and fell into deep alcoholism over the course of 9 months. I was overseas and drinking 6-8 500ml cans of 9% alcohol a day, it totals out to about a liter of 80 proof alcohol. I was drinking before work, taking some into work with me to ward off the shakes and panic attacks, and then drinking after work til 2 am.
It got to the point towards the end of the 9 months where if I went 3-4 hours without a drink I’d start getting panic attacks, extreme sweating, dangerously high blood pressure, low blood sugar etc.
I talked with my doctor and got a small supply of meds so I could cold turkey the alcohol without risking seizures etc. and luckily I was able to escape. Even only a couple weeks sober I was feeling 1000% better.
I just wanted to share for anyone in similar shoes. We often hear about people who drink for years and years before experiencing catastrophic health issues, but depending on your drinking and/or pre-existing conditions, health issues can sneak up extremely quickly.

Hi sorry for your loss. I was recently at the doc and he said he thought I had Gerd but I don't really get acid reflux feelings. So it made me wonder if it was actually my liver and i asked, he checked the feeling of my liver and abdomin and said he thought not.. I'm not so sure and have dropped the beers. How long did your husband have the symptoms of GERD, if that's not too intrusive to ask? And was it all the time?

interesting, in spite of all the mind games we play with ourselves in addiction, that when it is literally staring you in the face (READ: the mirror), we find another game to play. crazy, but seems pretty universal, listening to your story and reading the comments here, on this channel. you have allowed yourself, through this channel, a place to relate, to question, to share, and to learn from and through your experiences. and then you are courageous enough and bold enough, to think out loud with us. it never feels like you are holding back. you are honest, even when it is painful, when it might not show you in your best light. too few are capable of that, and even fewer to do it publicly. i am thankful. we are all thankful.

I also echo your sentiment, the folks on this channel sharing their experiences has helped me so much. You shared so much impactful information that it has touched so many. Your bravery is truly inspiring. Our society accepts and promotes alcohol until it becomes a problem. Alcoholism is stigmatized but it’s easy to lose control when it’s everywhere. I’m not sure what other outcome is expected. It’s fun…until it’s not. Hope you’re doing well David.

Great video and super good advice. I was a Paramedic in Detroit for 14 years, so I have a medical background of sorts.
I much like you even with my medical background dismissed signs and symptoms, although not as extreme as yours. My point being even with some medical knowledge we all want to dismiss what our bodies are telling us on something else. As you said, “throwing up coffee grounds” but thought it was the soda.
I commend you on your truthfulness and sharing your story. I’m glad you are still here because many that get to that point don’t survive.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Heavy drinkers who don't hear this, need to hear it. We all fool ourselves into saying, oh, that happens to some people, but not me. Or, I'll get a handle on this before its too late. All the while it is damaging us, and no one can really tell when they have gone too far. I was a heavy week end drinker, and it fucked up a lot of things in my life. I am now 4 years sober, and know I can't go back to that. Alcohol is an insidious drug. At first it makes you feel warm, happy, energetic, and fun. It will overtake you, and now you will feel the exact opposite....scared, dark, hopeless and broken. Don't go out that way, stop right now, and don't go back.

I even went to the eye doctor for that and they said it was blood vessels but I didn't buy it. Ive struggled with alcohol for years now and I have had hepatitis and pancreatitis..I've been in and out of hospitals so many times I can't count. I literally can relate to every single symptom you just mentioned, wow. I haven't had a scan in a while now or tests done on my liver but I've been having bad stomach pains all day after binging sunday, the same day I was released from the hospital (smh) ...I feel like this is the time I finally am done especially after seeing this.

It’s sad and it getting worse . We have males and females aged 30-75 ish . Really heavy drinkers. They usually come in bc of Hepatic encephalopathy ( due to elevated ammonia levels) confusion, jaundice and ascites. Repeat Repeat. It is very difficult for the family caretaker . So we give them the yucky meds for ammonia levels and do a parenthesis . They get stable. Most come back repeatedly due to cont drinking or the damage to liver is late stage . It is devastating. I’m glad you are around and sober. For you. For your family . I pray you live a long good life. I think you will bc you are doing good self care . Blessings and hugs to you friend 💚💚💚💚💚🌟🌟🌟👌🏻👌🏻

I hope you find the will power to stop drinking. I know the struggle and unfortunately I know it to well. I'm 50 and only sober 8 months. I was a functioning alcoholic for 30 years and have so much regret of raising my son's around it. They never went without anything and I cooked and cleaned every day for them but 80 percent of the time I was drinking. I didn't drink hard alcohol only beer but still pretty drunk most of the time. I cry so much now because I have so much guilt and shame of my drinking. They grow up so fast and life is too short not to make a change now. I pray that you find the will to stop and hope you get counseling for it.

I’m grateful everyday I made it through that nightmare. I had to relearn how to live in this world sober and that was crazy because I hadn’t remembered life sober. I drank for over 20 years basically daily and it took me even 5 or 6 years of actively trying to get sober to get sober. I never thought I would have a normal life and to be here over 2 years sober it’s quite remarkable to me how resilient I was to keep trying by myself and that I actually made it through. Wow. Our bodies are a miraculous gift 🙏

Thank you for your honesty and sincerity. No cuts in the video just you telling your story. A CT scan showed I have a fatty liver also high sugar and blood pressure. I can relate to many of your symptoms. Alcohol, carbs and sugar are off the list as I try to reverse this. Two months in and feeling better. Energy back and headaches gone.

I like that you use the term stop - 2008 I had whipple surgery for pancreas cancer- it wasn’t it was scar tissue that had wrapped around my pancreas- I was sober at the time since 1993 but I know the pain you have experienced - I’m border line diabetic so I’m trying to do it by what I eat- did you join AA wonderful content!

My dad was an alcoholic, his mother too. I had problems with it in my 20s but quit before I met my wife thank god. I'm in my 50s now and have had anxiety, depression and neurological issues over the past 25 years, I believe the alcohol injured my nervous system.

Even a day, a week, and even watching a video like this is going in the right direction. 1 day sober is a win. A week sober huge win. 1 month sober your mind and body is there or right there man!! Keep quiting till you quit!

My husband has cirrhosis of the liver and will possibly need a liver transplant. He is 45 yrs old and is addicted to whisky. He still continues to drink even though medical professionals told him he will die. At this point any sip or an ounce of alcohol is poison to his body. He was told he won’t make it past 50 if he doesn’t stop drinking. His symptoms were severe itching, blurry vision, bloating, yellow skin, severe heart burn, high glucose levels, high blood pressure, significantly low red and white blood cells, fatigue and fainting.

It's important for people to know non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is just as bad. I just got diagnosed and I've been researching a lot. 40 million people have fatty liver disease and don't even know it.

This video has been a real eye opener for me, when i was drinking i had a lot of the same symptoms as you. The thing with the red eyes and blood vessels happened quite a few times. The pressure behind the eyes too. One of my biggest problems besides feeling exhausted and depressed was the constant feeling hot and sweating. I would even sweat in my sleep often my bed was soaked.
I have always had a lot of trouble with vertigo but hardly notice it now at 84 days sober. I was damn dizzy though. Heart palps was another thing i had every day but has nearly disappeared. Stomach pain was a regular thing too. I'm going to make an appointment with the doctors soon just for a check up and to see if i have done myself damage.
Thank you again for these videos your honesty is just incredible!

At my last physical I was told I have fatty liver. I'm not a drinker but I have a lot of medical conditions, emphysema, thyroid disease, kidney disease, & more so I chalked all my new symptoms up to the conditions I have. But this yr has been worse with a lot of the symptoms you talked about. So I just wanted to say thanks for your vid cuz I know now I really need to make some diet changes. I'm 66 & live off sugar. I go for this yrs round of scans this month & realize I really need to take charge of the liver. Thanks for the wakeup call.

I like a few beers at the weekend but in moderation. However, I have been taking Lansaprazole for 30yrs due to excess acid and a Hiatus Hernia. I believe it's hereditary as Dad has always been on them as well but doesn't have the hernia! I now suffer from Gout and have a lowered kidney and liver function for my age!
I'm 55yrs old . . Apparently a lot of medications are worse than alcohol!!
      Any advice would be appreciated!

Love❤sugar, alcohol free for 9 yrs, just got diagnosed with it all…..pancreas, liver and kidneys are shor. I’m so glad that I’m not drinking anymore I would have died years ago. They found it on an ultrasound that they were conducting on my female organs. My gallbladder is also a wreck. I quit drinking because I was so sedentary and ended up getting a blood clot in my lungs that nearly took me out. I don’t know how to cut the juice, sodas, Red Bull, cakes and pastries. And all carbs and sugar! Grrrrrrr😢

That alter ego topic is interesting. Lying, modifying stories, exaggerating are tools used to subconsciously make that alter ego a reality. I personally think that there is a much deeper reason for engaging in this behavior. It is related to the fall of humanity.

your video popped up for some reason, so, i just wanted to say that what you mentioned at 13:16 mins, in the eyes, is called “floaters” where proteins clump in the eye fluid (which is like a clear jelly) and casts a shadow to the back of the eye, so you see “black clumps and strings” .. as i have had them for years.. they can zap them away (totally painless) but they come right back. they may have gone away from no more toxic stuff, like alc. thats my thoughts.

My husband passed away just over a year ago. We had been separated for 3 years at that point, but I had no idea that his drinking was what was killing him. He wasted away. He told ppl that it was cancer but it was extreme alcohol consumption. He starved to death ultimately, and died alone, leaving our son without a dad. That’s no way to live, and no way to go out. Repent & believe the gospel, because we are not promised our next breath.

Really informative video...I'm 34 been drinking relatively heavy for 15 years straight...been having stomach issues...a dull stomach ache right in the Middle of my stomach.... goes away when I slow down but has came back because of excessive drinking again. I am now really trying to cut back big time. I have bad anxiety and alcohol always seemed to help. I'm now trying to quit and I'm hoping for the best! Thanks for the video and hope you continue being successful in your sobriety!!
