Clear, concise and right to the point. Thanks again for another great video. I wish the next CURA 4.8 featured video to be on the subject of " infill support settings " in combination with " infill steps ". My next project calls for a bunch of large hollow od shape blocks that will form a prop wall of some sort. The blocks won't be weight-bearing so the minimum infill needed just to support the top shells from the inside.
I've been all about tree supports for every job lately. The ease of removal and reduction of support material is excellent. I don't see myself going back to normal supports any time soon, at least with the designs and projects I typically work on.
Thanks so much Chep! as always i learned something new to help me in my future projects ! your the best! i have been having issues the last couple months with supports now my issues are gone. GREAT video !
Hmmm. I was putting indivual supports to support a 5" open space on a power supply case. I think I had about 30 individual supports. Think I'll watch this video again. Thank You. Very helpful
Man this would have helped me last night when I was trying to get a unicorn made for my daughter. Everything came out perfect, except the tail cause the supports were lacking. But she is happy and, as always, I've now learned something new to toss into the mental toolbox.
Hi Chuck - I think it would be nice to remove the travel in the preview so people who are new users do not get confused and ask, '' what are the those light blue lines and how do I get them to work for my printer'... I'm in a few groups and that's what they will ask about. Keep up the good work, thanks for breaking down 'how to' I come to your youtube and I post videos when people are stuck on a problem.
Chep your videos are always awesome and got me started in 3D printing. I hope you do more videos with support including maybe miniatures that are closer to the bed and harder to use. I am having trouble with that. Looking forward to more support videos.
informative and right to the point. as always thank`s. Are there a video in the near future about fitting Neo pixels and controlling them via the printer and or octo print?
Awesome, could you do a vid on wifi sd card options other than octoprint please. I really dont want to change my marlin firmware on my cr10s so looking at other options
I’m sorry I’m new in this video about supports you said that tree supports are what you like to use do you have a video on these and can you use tree supports in cura
Hi CHEP great video as usual! After playing a bit with this feature I've tried to print a bust of a pilot and used the "custom support" for the chin of the pilot, and the supports went down to the pilot's body. After printing was done I found out that the support was printed as a part of the body which means it was almost impossible to remove it and when I did, holes appeared on his body. That led me thinking that this feature is good only to support between the model and the build plate without having the rest of model stand between the way. By the way, I didn't have this problem when using regular cylinder support. Will be glad to hear what do you think and maybe I did something wrong. Thanks
I generally use the supports in Cura and have them in concentric with no infill and only 1 wall. The only problem I have is the support roof settings leave some ugly mess on the model. I've not tried the custom support feature yet.
How about a slicer shootout between CURA and PrusaSlicer? How to set up a profile for Creality machines in PrusaSlicer to match CHEP profiles in CURA??
Did a profile here: th-cam.com/video/G_4H1OTIAK0/w-d-xo.html Shootout is really unnecessary as they are both free and can be used on same computer so you can use both or either. They both are great.
Has anyone had an issue with cura 4.8 on mac os big sur with not being able to select the model by clicking on it, I have to right click and say select all models, its only been an issue with 4.8 and was wondering if anyone else has this issue.
@CHEP I'm adding the custom supports but when I slice and preview, there are no purple hashes between the support and the model. The support structure is being printed but it never actually touches the model. what am I doing wrong?
Hey Chep, do you have any place where you can help people that are having some troubles? Like a forum or something. I try to learn as much as possible, on TH-cam and anywhere I can, but I'm having issues with a specific model to print, specially on cura slicer
Has anyone else had a problem with 4.8 (as opposed to 4.6) - a few of my stl files import but are invisible apart from the grey shadow the object produces on the base plate. Very odd.
What are the specs on the computer you're using? I pulled an old laptop out of my closet and it will barely show me the layers in preview mode and has to grind for a while to even do that. I'd like to get something that travels through those layers as smoothly as in your videos.
I have tried this a couple times now on Cura 4.10 and the custom supports do not touch the model. There is a significant gap so it's not really supporting anything. Bug with this plugin and Cura 4.10?
@@MarkLawry OK but it causes problems on small overhangs not getting enough support. I wish there was a choice you can make on them to decide how much air gap.
I've downloaded the plugin and restarted cura but the buttons on the left are greyed out still and I'm unable to do custom supports. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Why is it that i add a surport the build plate suddenly shirnks down and it says unable tp slice please check print sequence?? Im abit new to this what dp i need to do thanks 👍👍
@@brendanallison7463 it does for me, not finding much information except that it is supposedly a bug that was fixed in cura 4. Well, I'm on 5.1 and it;s definitely still there for me.
Thanks for your supports.

pro trick : watch movies at Flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Simon Kellen Yup, I have been using Flixzone for since december myself :D

Excellent video. I prefer cura over S3D and the standard profile + some tweaks work flawless on my CR6-SE
Great video as always
Thanks for sharing your knowledge to all of us👍😀

Really interesting!!! Thanks a lot, Chuck! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Started using a week ago. It's really useful.
Thanks! It worked great. I found that with a lot of these supports it helped to print with a raft to get good adhesion to every support post.
It would be really cool if it would support making the supports as tree supports to not touch the model.
Chuck, thanks, this has really helped with some commissions for friends
Unless you can set the support's base out of the actual part, like in an angle avoiding the model, I'd stick to tree support anytime

Your videos are always a pleasure thank you.
Thanks for watching
I've been fighting with a print all week now. I can't get a support under the middle of his arm and it makes a rats nest. This is awesome.
So helpful, as always.
Tyvm Chep.
Thank you very much from russain maker! I have subscribed.
The best tutorial so far in all TH-cam,thanks a lot UwU
Can you set a support blocker on the foot so it doesn't mess up the foot?
Prusaslicer juist paint on your support and done easy :)
Yep. th-cam.com/video/XFUfRVAm9ts/w-d-xo.html

Brilliant as always. Thank you!
This will definitly help, Thanks!
A friday to early, the release 2.4.0 of this plugin should be released this week.
What changes?
How do you get rid of the support foot print
Can you angle the support so it hits the build plate rather than the base? I would really like that.
cura is the god!
I’m sorry I’m new in this video about supports you said that tree supports are what you like to use do you have a video on these and can you use tree supports in cura
Very nice!
Problem with small footprint supports is that they start to wobble after a certain height, solution to this is to interlink them.
Thanks!
I get the image of the supports but after slicing there is nothing there...

You can set a horizontal gap in settings.
@@FilamentFriday the gap isn’t the problem, it seems like it prints the supports as a part of the model
Not sure. Supports are separate and the top/bottom and side gap settings make it easier to break away.
I generally use the supports in Cura and have them in concentric with no infill and only 1 wall. The only problem I have is the support roof settings leave some ugly mess on the model. I've not tried the custom support feature yet.
You do everywhere or just touching buildplate

This is great, but how to I stop the supports from going through the entire model and into areas I don;t want it to be?
Same there. Did you find any solution?

Go to your preferences and check "Force layer compatibility mode". It'll look a bit uglier but that fixed the bug for me.

Lions have taken to printing stuff like that in segments with slots & keys rather than using supports.
What ? Lol
Do you sell parts? I'm looking for a quiet fan for ENDER 3 V2

Hi, somebody can tell me how to this plug-in works? Because I try it but cura doesn't show the support after slicing the part I need to print...
I've noticed you have to play around with them. If the support is too small, or something that Cura doesn't like, it wont slice.
@@gage3809 oh, thanks. For the next time, when I slice a model with custom support, I will try to make bigger supports

Click on the model first
Custom support does not seem to install on my Cura 4.8 :(
did you find and install the plugin? you have to restart after you install it.. when you click an item the support menu is on the left at the bottom

Unless someone revamps the plugin to make the supports not go all the way through a model on complex overhangs it is useless for the most part.
