- Eighth Symphony of Anton Bruckner, performed by Bernard Haitink and the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam
I have Maestro Haitink to thank for my introduction to the work of Bruckner, way back, and he has continued to demonstrate his esteem for, and understanding of, the great composer. I think he is performing better now than ever. Certainly the most dedicated and capable Bruckner conductor we have now that Gunter Wand has gone to that great concert hall in the sky...
Haitink is an AMAZING conductor...and his baton work is gorgeous!
What a great sound! Why do I always feel happy after listening Bruckner?
Many thanks to uploader Zwijnhaat (what's in a name) for his noble work. I listen almost every day to this great performance, which I witnessed when recorded. After that I was walking on clouds at the Museumplein... .
BRAVO
Haitink is one of the special Maestro both good in Bruckner & Mahler
Let's just cut to the chaste. Bernard Haitink is our greatest living conductor. I've listened for nearly 50 years. And he can even get exciting as hell, when it's called for. If it's called for.
My greatest experience, while living in the Netherlands 2010-2013, was a concert in the Concergebouw, with Haitink and the Concergebouw Orchestra, playing a Bruckner symphony (no 7).
@banjocracy Same way I do. We'll live beyond our earthly bounds. Bruckner knew that, and Haitink is his best 20th Century messenger to remind us.
@grabit1 agree and agree and agree. I've only been listening to them for 35 years, but I'm not as old as you :)
There is no greater living Bruckner conductor. Heck, don't even include the word "Bruckner" in it. I just wish this were playing on something other than my laptop.
