    I know that learning Cantonese tones is a daunting task for beginners. Often students reach a point where they can pronounce individual words just fine but struggle to string together fluid sentences. That’s why in this video I present all 36 tone combinations in Cantonese, first by themselves and then in a sentence for context. I recommend going through the video several times for practice.

      Yes, they have Jyutping, traditional characters and the English translation. For anyone who’s curious there’s also extra videos, dialogues and worksheets to learn traditional characters!

    Great vid! Can I ask, what romanization are you using for writing Cantonese with the Latin script? Is it the Yale one?

    • @cantobritt

      I use Jyutping which is the other main one along with Yale.

    Can u help me with english ? If you are HK citizen but outsidr HK, for example Canada. What the term ? Canadian born Hongkonger?

    • @cantobritt
      @cantobritt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re born in HK and moved to Canada, there isn’t really an English equivalent to 華僑.

    What i really mean is. You are HK citizen. But you born AND raised in Canada. What the term ? Canadian born Hongkonger?

    • @Kentalot

      I guess that would be the exact mapping for CBC and ABC. Generally even HK descendants use ABC and not ABH though.

      yes, I'd use Canadian Born HongKonger. No matter what term you use though, You probably need to explain it out a little bit. "I was born in Canada, but moved to HongKong..." etc.
      I already have a tough time explaining how my Parents are born in Vietnam, but we're ethnically Chinese.

    Tone 5 makes no sense to me

    • @6Uncles
      @6Uncles ปีที่แล้ว

      probably because she often has trouble pronouncing tone 5 from what I'm noticing so far in these beginner videos
      Like at 2:56. She has it flat, like tone 3, where it should be a low-rising tone.
      It could be really confusing to beginner learners because they might look to her as the standard - but she should really but up a disclaimer that she's not a native, but heritage speaker
