    See my pinned comment below for great resources to learn Cantonese like other TH-cam channels, podcasts, movies, music and more!
    Do you want to learn Cantonese but aren't sure where to start? Or maybe you've tried and quit before because you didn't have a guide to learning Cantonese or are too afraid to start at all because you think Cantonese is too hard to learn on your own? Well I'm here to tell you that it is possible and to show you how you can learn it fast while also having fun ! Whether you're an absolute beginner or are already an intermediate Cantonese student, my tips will put you on the right path to master this language. I truly believe if someone like me can make progress then so can you!
    My 4 Tips to Self-Studying Cantonese
    1) Figure out your Cantonese level and find suitable resources
    2) Find a Cantonese class or one-on-one teacher
    3) Learn Jyutping or another romanization system like Yale
    4) Establish a consistent study routine
    For those of you who stumbled on this video and don't know what Cantonese is, it's a Chinese language spoken in Hong Kong, Macau and Chinese communities all around the world. Although Cantonese and Mandarin are very similar, there are significant differences between the two so that many linguists consider it its own language rather than merely a Chinese "dialect". I'm a Cantonese heritage speaker who has spoken Cantonese my whole life but has been self-studying Cantonese for two years to improve. Now I want to share the secrets and hacks to learning Cantonese I've found helpful in improving my own Chinese. I hope they help you too!

    Great timing!! I just moved to a neighborhood in Guangzhou that are a majority Cantonese speakers. I understand Mandarin but most shop keepers don't use Mandarin as their daily language!

    Hi Brittany ! I would like to thank you for your videos that have been very helpful to me :)
    I am a French-born Chinese person and have been watching several cantonese-speaking YT channels, especially yours, and have been taking italki weekly conversational courses for months.
    The work is paying off as my parents are very happy that my cantonese level improved significantly and are happy that they can have better communication with me.
    Keep up the good work !

    Hey Brittany, I used ITALKI just like you did. It’s was my best tool in learning basic Cantonese and Mandarin. Never better than learning a language from a native speaker. Not only that it was so inexpensive. I was able to locate a native Toisan teacher! Wow!

    Hey Great video! Thank you so much.
    I've studied Mandarin for a while and I have trouble finding good modern online at-level resources to keep up and improve my skills. Any ideas? Or maybe what was your process for accumulating these resources? Just googling?

    Hey Brittany, great video!! Out of curiosity do you have a strong preference for Jyutping over Yale romanization?

    • @cantobritt
      @cantobritt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Both are good and worth learning! A lot of good older resources use Yale but a lot of newer ones use Jyutping. Id say they have more in common than apart. Hope that helps!
