    You a brilliant teacher Olivia, I love your lessons. I even learned to say 'thank you very much' to the waitress whilst I was waiting for food in the restaurant, she looked surprised, then smiled and said 'very good cantonese', it was my first ever attempt. 😊

      Matmat Mat We learn the standard Beijing dialect i.e. Mandarin in school. Depending on our ancestry and which region we live in, we tend to pick up 1 or 2 dialects, Cantonese is widely spoken around Ipoh and KL

    This Cantonese is quite Guangzhou when most of HK Cantonese nowadays using 懶音 as I know. Probably standard pronunciation in HK was back in 80-90.
    Although I'm Cantonese but i learn Cantonese by songs and films.

    My parents are emigrants from Canto, but I don't know any thing about Cantonese, which sometimes upset my grandparents because we couldn't see eye to eye with each another. In my country, people learn English as a secondary language. Now I want to learn Cantonese but I feel it harder than Mandarin 😭, I'm disappointed about myself, I'm sorry

    Every time i am in a taxi the driver would say things like diu lei lou mou (my friend says it means turn left?) Cau hai (byebye / see you again) puk gai (welxome) ham ga caan (pay cash?)
