- A number of items and abilities were cut from Majora's Mask. Some were outlandish like an Adult Link and Child Link Mask, others were carried over from Ocarina of Time, and some even were meant for cut events. Today on Cut Content we explore these very cut items and abilities.

Another fun fact related to cheat codes: if you use a code that disables item restriction, and equip and use the bow as Deku Link, he fires the arrows from his...snout?...like a blowgun. It's interesting that this was specifically programmed into the game but not used.
It might just be general code for launching any projectile as Deku, still strange though
In regards to Goron Link and the Megaton Hammer, there is actually a connection. The Goron Punch *is* the Megaton Hammer, but it was modified to fit with Goron Link's combat abilities, and the Goron Pound is the standard swing of said item. When Goron Link punches a wall, it uses the same impact texture and sound effects that that the Megaton Hammer used in Ocarina of Time.
Aside from the Megaton Hammer, Goron Link also has the same properties of the Goron Tunic, giving him inmunity to lava and heat resistance (the latter is not used though).
My first thought when hearing that Child Link's mask was found among Skull Kid's belongings was that the Skull Kid likely used the Child Link mask for nefarious, pranking purposes. For example, the Skull Kid might wear the mask and commit crimes, making the townsfolk or other NPCs mad at him.
That sounds not too far off the mark

Quick thought - the adult link mask might have been an answer to having to return to the temple of time everytime you need adult or young link, maybe seeing young and adult link puzzles in one dungeon … but thats just a theory!
You don't swap between them in MM.
They may have considered reusing the adult/child mechanic for MM, even if it didn’t end up in the final game.
My theory is with the Skull Kid is that he might of wore that mask to cause blame Link for stuff.

Fun fact: if you use cheat codes to give Fierce Deity Link any sword other than the Helix Blade, he'll start slashing away uncontrollably, and won't stop until you either reverse the transformation or give him back his sword. Also, if you put the Helix Blade on B with Link in his default Hylian form, pressing B causes him to draw the Great Fairy Sword.
Yeah it happened to me once and btw I set my sword to guilded sword and I played as zora Link and I pressed b zora Link would take out a sword but he would still punch and when I went inside a building/House He puts his invisble sword away and when I got my sword stole I somehow the kokir sword
Wait so if you give link helix sword he gets great fairy sword, so then that must mean if you give fd the gfs he’s get the helix sword?
@@averyzielnicki7450 The Great fairy Sword is a C-item. Fierce Deity Link can't use C. Even if you use cheat codes to bypass that, Fierce Deity Link is programmed to pull out the Helix Sword if he's not holding it. Setting the Helix Sword to B using cheat codes gives base Link the Great Fairy Sword on B because the Great Fairy Sword is the 2-handed sword Link can use in his base form.
That’s actually screwed up now that I think about it.
Not only would Skull Kid stoop so low as to trap Link in the body of a Deku Scrub he drained of all vitality, turning it into a tree in the process, but he would also steal Link’s Hylian form presumably so he could run around causing trouble while Link got the blame?
That’s some Face/Off levels of disturbingness, and without the unintentional hilarity of Nicolas Cage to offset said creepiness. 😱
ib4 Skullkid was directly based on Nic Cage in development :P
@s92 That actually is a good question, now that you mention it. It would definitely make sense given the context, as even in the final game, you’re basically fixing whatever mischief the Skull Kid caused for a majority of the folks in the Bombers’ Notebook, so I could definitely see Link having to go around and clear his good name by helping the folks “he” caused trouble to beforehand.
I never noticed the adult Link standing with civilians seems to be wearing different clothes to OoT Adult Link, and I own Hyrule Historia :o that's a detail I would have never caught if not for your video!
Yeah guess they were considering a revamped Adult Link here that at least would look different. Would have been neat to see this verison
The Sun's Song is actually an option you can choose to enable in the Randomizer, but it's a bit... volatile. You can see in the video just how fast time moves. You can interrupt it by entering a loading zone, but that can be hard to time lol. Wouldn't reccomend unless you're trying to skip like, 6+ hours.
Yeah i've heard they implemented it. I imagine if they did decide to go this route for the final game, they would likely freeze Link in place until time finished passing 6 hours
@@TheObsessiveGamer it actually is a little bit inaccurate too, it'll always skip to roughly 6:05 or so
I think spitting deku nuts would have been a much better design As for what using magic would do, they should have had deku link charge the deku nut attack to make it more effective. I can just imagine deku link popping his head out of the flower and spitting a nut where ever you're aiming! I also just noticed fierce deity Link's sword beams looks just like the beta sword beams from oot.
This was a great video!
I love that the devs used the instrument icons later in MM3D, along with the fishing minigame. It's nice that some small features were brought back this way :)
Also, I totally would've loved to use the Sun's Song and see time moving forward before your eyes! Very sad that it was removed :-(
Oh, I’m greatly glad that they reimplement the originally cut fishing and different instruments to the 3DS version
It would be funny if the whole stolen link mask was similar to mario sunshine's identity theft plot and link had to right wrongs he didn't do in the first place.
Heck that'd be neat. Makes me wonder if they had this idea but kept it for Mario Sunshine

Deku Link firing deku nuts instead of bubbles does sound like it makes sense. I reckon they changed it to distance the ability from the function of deku nuts that Link uses in Hylian form, avoiding any possibility of confusing the two. After all, it would seem weird for Link to ever run out of nuts if he can just make them from his own body by putting on a mask.
I noticed recently that Fierce Deity Link is significantly bigger than Adult Link... I find it very curious.
Also you can tell it's not the same model. There are some slightly but noticible differences in the model itself.
Its not that he's bigger, its that the world was designed for child link so every feels smaller when using FD.

There might not have been time travel involved or even a moon coming down originally. Termina may have been an extension of Hyrule. It's possible with the oncoming millenium that they decided to go in a darker direction like the end of the world was coming soon. Add that to cutting the game down from a week to just 3 days to add tension as a giant moon slowly creeps in.
Possibly but as far as we know, Majora's Mask as conceived was made from the get go on the idea of a 7 day cycle of trying to prevent the moon to fall. Nothing so far suggests they had other ideas as a major consideration.

An interesting thing about the "child Link mask" is that it is seemingly programmed to be worn by the skullkid rather than Link, much like how skullkid wears Majora's mask.
I would love to see what Majora's Mask was supposed to be. It seems so interesting.
I get what you mean by "supposed to be" but really MM is practically exactly how it was supposed to be; Nintendo started MM already knowing they had only a year to work on it, so they weren't planning on making something too large or full of content like OoT. I doubt that a lot of the cut items found in these files were going to be used at all (with the exception of the fishing mini game perhaps.) That Young Link Mask is super interesting, but I suppose it didn't work with the narrative that Nintendo eventually landed on with SkullKid and Majora's Mask, so it just got scrapped out of the story totally. An alternate plot line being included in the Hyrule History books would be such a gem to read about though!! I'm curious how dark or mischievous a Link Mask could really be.
One thing I wish we got to see in the final game though is the animation of the Great Fairy teaching you how to do your spin attack and other physical conditioning to up your defense. Such a cool little idea! I guess they thought it was unnecessary.

My biggest question out of this video is why did they decide to make deku link shoot bubbles instead of deku nuts? Ya know?
Considering deku link drops the nuts like bombs in the air, it probably made it hard to balance the game. I mean, two mechanics eating into the same item count simultaneously? You would be looking for nuts all the time starting out. Plus, bubbles move a bit slower and might be more forgiving for the player and software
I like to think that Skullkid makes the Link mask as a wholesome gesture, since the ending has them being friendly

I think what i like about all this is the fact that this game was supposedly DLC for OOT, then its own game, and then reduced to what it is today. Considering the 7 day cycle, maybe the idea behind Majora was a fierce rivalry where Majora would make frequent appearances. Maybe it was gonna be more fleshed out in certain ways. Like gossip stones and folklore about a mysterious creature that lived in these lands. JPN version makes note of Majora calling the fierce deity as well as you creatures that run away and are considered evil to it. Maybe the enemies being hit by your swordbeam also gave more opportunities for you and Majora to fight in multiple locations. Being as spiteful as it is, maybe it toyed with you cuz it got no challenge from either you or the fierce deity.
After all Ganon did have a phantom, whats to say there wasn’t one for Majora?

The transformed instruments were later reused in Majorca mask 3D ya Know!
The Conservatory Bomber and Jim both have Japanese lines that seem to be intended for the Adult form; the former would've told Link that the hideout's "for kids only" and that big kids like "Adult form" Link should play elsewhere. Jim in turn berates Link for picking on someone smaller than him. These don't appear in international versions, and thus softlock the game.
Also fun fact: There's a kafie mod for mm and the Link mask is in it it gives kafie links voice

Looks like my job was done well then as I was trying to portray exactly that here lol
I actually believe the megaton hammer was an early version of the goron pound where you fly into the air and smash the ground to make heavy switches go into the ground. Because the hammer filled that role in OoT.
But even Zora and Deku had their abilities in B, being the nuts and longshot at the time. And they obviously still would have been able to attack like the final game. In beta OoT you used A to attack so maybe ability was B and attack was A. The way Deku Link spins with A in and Goron rolls in the final game supports this theory. Zora and Fierce are the only without a special A ability, reusing child Link's. The roll! But maybe the attack wasn't implemented yet and they just had it on B for whatever reason.
There's even an unused animation in the game that looks like it could have been Goron Link swinging a hammer into the ground!
I think this theory alot. Quite very possible that this was the original intention but in the end whether from time constraints or just not wanting to do it, it didn't happen. Goron Link as such using a combo of Hammer plus punches while Zora Link using Fish-Man Karate + Hook Shot to zip across could have been real neat.
The updated Gerudo symbol came way before the GameCube port, including later releases of the N64 version.
Not true. OOT 1.2 (the final verison) does not include that Gerudo symbol

Is it me or can your very clearly see at 4.53 that the megaton hammer icon is in fact a square cutout of that image pasted over the original button? It seems a bit doctored, even though there are visual glitch artifacts in the other picture too, they are of a lesser degree.

My theory is that the child think mask is how you would originally play the bombers minigame to get to the observatory the first time before you transform into kid link

Actually, I could’ve sworn the 1.1 or 1.2 OoT revisions on the N64 had replaced the Islamic Moon and Star crest on both the Mirror Shield as well as the large movable blocks in dungeons with what we now know as the Gerudo symbol, though I could be misremembering since it’s been ages since I touched my N64.
The Moon and Star stayed for 1.1 and 1.2 as I understand. It was the GameCube versions that changed it.

my first game was zelda ocarina of time, i think i have one of the rarest consoles, it is a dk edition console with all the characters in the game, and i didn't find the console on google.

"Equipping anything to B"? Sounds like the majority of Capcom-made Zelda games, as nearly all of them had button slots you could equip nearly anything to. Minish Cap comes to mind of Capcom Zelda games that doesn't have a sword forever fixed to one button while other slots are items. So maybe, Nintendo was taking a page from how Capcom made Zelda games when Nintendo hired them to do so?
I'm guessing Adult Link mask was cut due to being to similar to Ocarina of Time.
Hylian Loach uses the name Hylian because Majora's Mask was originally gonna be an add on for Ocarina of Time. All the reused unused assets tie into this.

Majora's Mask never was going to be an Ocarina of Time expansion. It was always made as its own seperate game while Ura Zelda was made as the expansion. Some assets were taken from Ura to Majora's Mask, but Majora's Mask was its own solo disk game from the start
Link was majora all along! That's why young link mask is on the bad guy!
The moon dropping was just Young Link's plan to make Skullkid look bad so he could come out a hero himself in Termina :P

What sort of stinks is that they removed or didn't port the Japanese unused text to the English, Pal, or Gamecube versions of MM.
yeah which is why people have used Japanese roms to showcase the beta text for it

Yea, I think there is mod or patch that restores some of the unused Japanese text in English for the USA and Europe versions of MM but I'm unsure if the mod has all of them though.

Your speaking for yourself. a BOTW sequel could fix many problems the first had. Nintendo isn't going to remake two 64 games and use scrapped ideas, and we already got a sequel to OOT called Twilight Princess.
