The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword was originally released for the Nintendo Wii Console in 2011, but it had a game-breaking bug at launch that triggered when talking to Golo near the end of the game. Obviously, a soft-locking glitch like this was a big problem, so Nintendo released a DLC for Skyward Sword via the Wii Shop Channel. This made it the first 3D Zelda Game to EVER receive Downloadable Content.
Additionally, we're going to be exploring the strange connection this DLC has to an animal crossing title. Very spoopy.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought on the Animal Crossing devs to make the channel. They’re pretty much the only team at Nintendo that’s experienced with editing save files.
Not sure that makes much sense, seeing as most every game edits its own save file every time you, you know, save.

You should get one. You can hack it easily and it isn't crazy expensive.

It was not recommended to do lanayru first because it crashed the game or something pretty major
I mean you can do Eldin first and then Faron second that’s what I did, you don’t have to do Faron first just don’t go to Lanaryu before Faron
@@kirbyholdingacross7324 technically you can do lanaryu first as long as you don't talk to the goron.
the glitch is fixed on the switch now so you can do them however you want

At least if the bug somehow exists in the remaster we wont have to download a whole new channel for it to be fixed now

When a high tier yiga clan member is doing that earth quake type move, if u throw a bomb at it, it will cancel the attack.

the funny thing is that just a few months ago I saw this on the wii shop and my stupid little brain, knowing the servers were shut down said: hey this is free! and it has the skyward sword logo! it must be the game for free! well I bet you can figure out how that went

I'm so glad someone pointed out the similarity to the City Folk Wii Channel music. I've been saying this for years and you're the first person I've seen to say it on the internet
Honestly, my theory behind why it used the city folk pointer and music, was that there was some sort of similarity or connection between how the two games were developed, particularly regarding save files. Obviously, there's nothing I can say to back this up other than that, well, some code is reused between games more often than not, and this might just be a case of that. The music for the channel select screen could have been an unused asset, or maybe they were planning on releasing something like this for city folk. Either way, super cool!
I remember this. Thankfully it never happened to me, but I never did the Lanayru quest first because I was paranoid I would trigger the bug. I really hope they remembered to fix this in the HD version!

i believe you are correct about the animal crossing team helping with the save patch channel. Because animal crossing city folk was one of the first games to discover a work around to add new content to wii titles, which and keep in mind i could be wrong, that how the dlc was implemented to the games was by modifying the save file itself. which was how skyward sword save file was fixed by modifying the check points in the game by unmarking them till you revisit said location.
"short answer the work around is that animal crossing city folk servers will modify your save file by checking/unchecking check points to add certain things to your game. which was the patch fix for skyward sword."
also if you like the game animal crossing city folk you should search up a save patcher known as ACDLC its a dlc tool for animal crossing city folk.

This was the closest thing we got to Nintendo games having DLC on Wii. If I remember correctly, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was supposed to be a DLC expansion of the original Galaxy. If only the Wii could do game expansions...

I got the HD version on day one and I’m now at those dragon parts, I started with that dragon not knowing this was actually a bug in the past. I’m also doing this dragon to… well if you’ve beaten the game then I think it’s sort of obvious why

at least according to the wiki, you had to talk to golo TWICE for the game to break.
This exact thing happened to me except on the switch and I talked to the water dragon first
I remember i downloaded that save thing on my wii cuz i thought it was the game at first lol. (i was like 10). But i never actually got the game on the wii so i did not have any idea what it did till now lol.

One thing: doing the Lanayru dragon second also caused the glitch. I know from personal experience
can you investigate this occurrence people said happened to them?
on the days before the blood moon, it apparently ends the day with a tune that becomes more pronounced as the blood moon night draws closer.
I found out if you brake on the master cycle zero while stationary but holding accelerate and let go of the brake you get a boost

I don’t remember the Order I did the dragons. However , I did not have that issue.
I did them faron, eldin, and lanayru because the game ha been so linear up to that point i thought you had to do it in a specific order lol

It’s not 1:1, there’s quite a few (good) changes. This bug doesn’t exist anymore, nor do any of the “gamebreaking” issues that were in the Wii version.
Many glitches, like out of bounds clips, were untouched though. Could be oversight, but I’d bank on it as them catering to their speedrun community as well.

This was more so a patch than DLC. It didn't add any content, just fixed a bug.
Depends on your definition of "content".
@@TheBreadPirate I define "additional content" as something that adds to or changes the story, gameplay, or appearance of game assets. A patch is what I'd call a fix to an unintended error in the game code which does not add to or change the game content, i.e. a bug fix, which is exactly what this WIi channel does. For this reason, I wouldn't call it DLC.

It sure makes for a good title and thumbnail, and sure, technically speaking from the name, it's correct, but it still feels SO wrong to call this "DLC" xD

Depending on the defininition of "Content" you use this could go either way.
Content, as in it contains stuff, yes it is stuff and it is downloaded.
But how I use Content for use in DLC is specifically Game Content.
This does not add any game content, it is a Downloaded External Save File Fixing Tool.

Oh...not the bug I remembered. There was another one. Which prevented you from completing the game if you've done return to the provinces out of order. You should go to Eldin and get captured, and if you don't - you are screwed. Don't remeber exact details, but I am definitely not beating this BS avocado boss several times again
This game felt like the shortest to me and actually could have benefitted from dlc content.
Interesting take, I see people saying the opposite far more often; that the game was too long. I personally feel it was just right.

That bug is wired why does it do that it makes no sense
Because as explained you kinda have to do the Dragon Quests in a specific order, completing the quest updates the flags which determine progress and the state of the world. Doing the Thunder Dragon's quest forces that Goron to advance to the point after the Thunder Dragon's Quest, but you need him to help with the other Dragons and he won't help you because the game has advanced to the part where he essentially already has helped you.

Is skyward sword HD worth the money?
Maybe! Depends on how much work it takes for you to make $60.
If it takes you MONTHS to get $60, then maybe you should get a cheaper game. But if it takes 6 hours, then I'd say it's worth it.
