      Hey, so I am one of these Discord user who reached 42+mm³/s with PETG with this new hotend.
      Before the last firmware update when the temperature runaway was still 3minutes to kick in, it was printing fine and could even reached 48mm³/s but since the last updat the thermal runaway errock kicks in after like 3sec of anormal temperature variation, 12:00 that's why you're having these errors and I do too and many others also with this new hotend and the last update. I've reached the Bambu support but they say the users can not adjust the thermal error time or the PID settings, so we're doomed to errors in printing because of Bambu Lab closing more and more their firmware... Such a shame

    If you need any other video ideas here are a few.
    Noctua fan upgrades for quieter running. (needs wire splicing)
    Tons of build plate types but your intro showed you are already doing that.
    Led light upgrades or light strips above the print area.
    Showdown between interface barriers. Like the old style glue stick bambu lab gel glue, nano polymer, whambam, hair spray etc.
    Something I personally like to do is use a refracting grating sheet on the build service to add a rainbow chromatic color to the bottom of my prints.
    There is now a printable AMS upgrade called hydra that is bring worked on that can take different spool types.
    Hydra AMS - Enhanced Bambu Lab by humebeam
    Keep up the great work.

    I almost feel like bambulab designed this specifically so you didn't have to tinker lol. And any sort of upgrade plans they already have in mind. I love tinkering and upgrading things. But man when its comes to 3d printers its like a nightmare where I could spend hours if not days on something only to yield meager results and could have just left it alone. 😂

    • @waynefilkins8394
      @waynefilkins8394 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true, but at the same time, it's very common to switch nozzle size. I think the anti-tinker motive would lead to them making it easier to replace nozzle. Other than that though they seem designed in a way where they don't need constant maintenance (unlike my damn ender 3's).

    • @melgross
      @melgross ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are people who just want to print, and people who want to tinker. People who just want to print tend to print more, while tinkers tend to tinker more. My feeling, and I have shops including a number of machine tools, is that most people just want to print. I can say that it takes a lot of work to use open equipment. I made my own circuit boards and power supply for my first computer in 1975. But why would I want to go through anything like that today?

      @melgross ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@waynefilkins8394 well, that’s what I’m saying. But there are people out there who believe that open source is everything. That every product must have open source. It’s a need for them. So take an excellent printer like the Bamboo, and they’re not happy because it’s not open source. They believe that they need to change something because proprietary devices simply can’t be that good, and they think they’re being controlled by these companies anyway.

    • @mdbbox5660
      @mdbbox5660 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@melgross Open source gives people reassurance their machine won't slowly become trash if the company that make it doesn't... make it, and that problems can be addressed by the community if the manufacturer cannot/will not address them.
      It seems that in this case, at least right now, Bambu is doing a pretty good job of making improvements and offering reasonably priced replacement parts and service. If that continues, the battle for open source is proportionally less important, but the potential for things to go south always exists.

    I bought an Ender 3 and Ender 5 plus to play with and upgrade and to learn how to 3d print. I bought the Bambu XC1 to print fast without the headaches. It does what I want without any mods. I won't be putting in non Bambu parts simply because this is a system machine with matched components to work in a synergistic environment. A clone may look the same and maybe of good quality but there is a reason its cheaper. I'll stick with the Bambu store for consumables and spare parts.

    The one thing I have seen far too (increasingly) often is "send the whole thing back in for warranty work". Hard NO on that. If I can get the parts I need from the aftermarket in half the time with low shipping costs and at the same quality there is NO WAY I'm waiting the time it will take to ship the whole kit back to bambu, wait for them to fix it and then ship it back to me. I would expect them to ship one out to me the minute I file a warranty claim and only once the new one shows up would I then ship the old one back at THEIR expense. That's how these warranty's should work. A perfect example was a K&N air filter I got in 2009. In 2015 I noticed a small issue with it and sent them an email. This was at 1pm on a Tuesday. Within 15 minutes they had responded and asked for a picture of the numbers printed on it (for part identification and for my mailing address for where they should send the replacement. A brand new, never used replacement was at my door at 11:30AM the next day. They are in the US and I'm in Canada, something like 3000 miles away from me. If a company can do that for a $100 air filter I d*mned well expect at least the same for a $1500 printer. If they can't do at least that much then I expect them to rush the replacement parts out to me in the same manner and at their expense. Too many people have been conditioned to accept sub-par warranty service for too long and it's this sort of nonsense that really drives the aftermarket to come up with solutions for the end user. All because the OEMs just won't do it themselves.

    Just my humble opinion but... if you want to upgrade, tinker, mess with, speed up, etc., your printer, then build a Voron, RatRig, or any other DYI printer. Personally, I think Bambu was going after the "plug & play" market. I won't be messing with my P1P/AMS unless it requires parts to be replaced, and then I will buy those parts from Bambu. They have kept their part prices extremely reasonable. Heck, their whole hot end assembly is less expensive than some nozzles LOL. I believe Bambu will be around for the long haul, and I think we've only just seen the tip of the iceberg with what is coming from them.

One example is the Bambu hot end. How many newbies "clog" customer support after the filament exploded out of the nozzle because the nozzle change by the customer was not installed or torqued correctly or extruding issues because the nozzle was not tuned properly?

The first hotend got clogged to the point that I had to throw the whole thing away. the second one suddenly started printing the first level test with one strip that is in the back, off the plate. it also started having adhesion issues and layer shifting. I took out the hotend and found that it had bend, maybe because of the repeated banging against the nozzle wipe. I have since installed a Bambu Lab OEM hotend. it is just not worth it when i have to redo a 6 day print three times.

The problem is that in our fast moving tech scene, many copiers can produce the product and sell a bunch, then go out of business before the IP owner can do anything about it.

    Contrary to popular belief, intellectual property protections are not intended to shield ideas themselves. Copyrights safeguard the expression of ideas, while patents protect inventions themselves. In simplified terms, you cannot patent an idea; you need a tangible product that functions as described in the patent application. Patenting a 3D printer component, such as a nozzle, would be extremely difficult unless it represents a completely novel design with an unprecedented mechanism. To clarify, Bambu Labs likely holds no patents on individual printer components. They might possess a design patent for the printer itself, preventing others from replicating it identically, but that's the extent of their protection. On the other hand, they might be the intellectual property holders of the firmware they use. I'm unable to confirm this without further investigation.

I have had so few issues with it compared to anything else I have purchased including several different variations of ender 3 printers from Creality. As a patent holder, I'm going to take a wild guess here.
    Bambu has probably realized the futility of filing a design patent.
    The only patent worth having is a utility patent and that requires some type of functional uniqueness that can't be anticipated as a natural evolution of an existing patent...
    If something does a task pretty much the same way as an existing patent, just better, a design patent would probably be the best that could be hoped for, and those aren't worth the filing costs.
    There really isn't anything about a 3D printer or the parts that it's built from, that's uniquely innovative...
    That was the entire point of how home 3D printers became a thing.
    They could be built out of off-the-shelf hardware with public collaboration.
    Kudos to Bambu for saving their money and leaving third party add-ons open because, open or not, there really isn't a cost effective way to stop aftermarket parts.
    Much better for the goodwill of makers and hardware hackers too, and we, are the target market.

    That company name can be found in the terms that a customer is obliged to agrre with the purchase if one of their printers.

    I'm thinking of getting this to use something like tungsten carbide or diamondback nozzles. If I'm not using CHT style nozzles, that should avoid the stringing issues, right?
    And the tungsten carbide and diamondback nozzles are still better thermal conductors than regular or hardened steel.

    bambu's supposed walled garden is a filament cutter after the direct extruder motor, that's it, ram it rewind it push the new filament.
    Prusa's filament MMU thing sort of does the same just dumber, improving a bambu printer involves moving the filament mux closer to the head.

    Looks like they now have a v2 of the aliexpress hotend so you can swap cht style nozzles that is the same size as the bambu labs stock hotend - so none of the problems outlined in this video. Then easier to just swap nozzles going forward

    I'm sorry, but you are way off on this one, and you incorrectly steer people away from doing this upgrade. It is an excellent upgrade and definitely worth doing for anyone who wants to be able to use a CHT nozzle with their Bambu X1.
    For starters, it takes about 30 seconds to shorten the filament tube by 1.9mm. Measure it out, mark it with some painter's tape or sharpie, vice it up, and grab the Dremel. Leave some filament in the tube when you do it to help it not deform; deburr it and clean it out with some canned or pressurized air from the nozzle opening. This works 100%, with 0 error codes, no wiper damage, and no need to alter every single individual nozzle.
    The heating issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with the three possibilities you stated; it is happening because you put thermal paste between the filament tube and the heatsink, thereby causing the ceramic heater to be overpowered by the hot end fan. There should be no thermal paste between the filament tube and the heatsink. You only need thermal paste directly on the thermistor and ceramic heater.

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the reply. You’re completely right, I didn’t think about the thermal paste and heat sink issue… I’ll take it apart and fix it. And wow. Yeah. I didn’t think about just shortening the tube!!! That’s what happens when you’re too busy recording B-Roll to read the discord group!!
      I think I’m gonna pin your comment when I get to a computer. Seriously, thanks for taking the time.

    99.9% of what we buy is closed. That’s the way it works. Here, in the USA, it’s legal to makes something to interface with a proprietary, patented device. So there’s nothing illegal there as said, as long as there are some differences. So that’s really not a problem.
    Let’s get something straight. You can’t patent an idea. That’s absolute. You have to patent the realization of an idea in an actual product. It can be a process patent, which is used for anything involving a chemical process. It can be a design patent, which covers the way something is built and the way it looks. Or a trade dress patent, which covers the color, design, logo, etc. there are other types of patents. And, you can take a patent from someone, improve upon it to add functions the original patent doesn’t cover - and patent that. So it’s complex.
    A problem with open source is that usually the license forces companies to publish any code they may had added to it, or changed, that took a lot of time and money to come up with. Therefore, they won’t use it. It’s understandable.

    End of the line: *The Bambu Lab printers are not a great option if you don't want to use them the only way Bambu Lab itself thought of!*
    The whole idea of this machine is a none tinkering "it just works" machine. Which for me is questionable in the first place because somehow eventually there will be a problem ... also with Bambu Lab machines. But if all this tinkering is required to get close to a printer you want - than this is probably not the right machine for you!
    An Ender 5 S1 with that Sonic Pad or at the end a Voron 2.4 would maybe be a better option for more flexibility. Or the upcoming Creality K1. Maybe.

      @@thenextlayer You put a 2 minute segment about IP infringement into a video that is supposed to be about 3D printer upgrades. This and calling the parts "knockoffs" gives of the impression that there is something shady going on. If not legally then at least ethically. To your credit you did say that you thought that no actual patents were infringed. However, I do not understand why manufacturers of aftermarket parts have to be presented in this negative context to begin with.
