This is one of those talks that can be better understood with enough astrological context. The personal daemon, the one that rules over the whole of the individual can be found through locating the Master of the Nativity. As described by Chris Brennan in "Hellenistic Astrology", the Master of the Nativity is calculable and findable by evaluating the strength of the Ascendant, Sun and Moon in their respective conditions and deducing who the "best" is. The Master of the Nativity was used to determine the length of a persons life, for one. For another Iamblichus seems to argue since we can calculate the Master of the Nativity, we can find a daemon and by necessity it can only be one daemon that is in charge of us wholly.
Furthermore there was a mention of the daemon giving instruction on how to invoke it. This harkens back to mentions from medieval grimoires a la the Solomonic tradition - if you get in "contact" with a spirit it will tell you how to gain greater knowledge and power. The instructions on how to further invoke the daemon and worship it, seem like after you have made contact with the daemon it will tell you how to do it better. Seems like the suggested route is always - get good enough that you can contact spirits willing to teach you. Then apply their knowledge for further improvement of technique or self.

Conversely, the Almuten and Lord/Lady of the Geniture is an alternative method of identifying much a similar or the same concept.

How do I get good enough....is it through theurgic practice?

@@TheLastOutlaw289 There are various ways, but it usually involves getting mileage in a meditative practice, and learning to contact spirits themselves. On the off chance that you have a guide looking out for you spiritually already or if you had a teacher who knows this stuff well, this would be easier. Assuming you are an average practicioner, you might benefit from B. J. Swain's books Living Spirits and Luminarium. First has a lot of theory and useful information, second contains outlines for calling, prayers etc., more practical stuff. Both go well together. As far as I know, put in the work from a meditation stand point, then put in the work following procedure for spirit contact. Since at first you are a nobody and no one will care just because you try to ring up entities. Start with elementals because, according to B.J., they like just being in the presence of Men because it's like God coming to talk to them and praying with them. I would definitely recommend listening to several Glitch Bottle podcasts, because you could get a lot more information out of that than a single youtube comment (Although I don't really care for a lot of the Solomonic magic they talk about, it's still good food for thought).

Although Iamblichus catches flak in some quarters, De Mysteriis is the most pragmatic and direct explanation of Neoplatonic esoteric principles there is, IMHO.

There is no self-cursing when it comes to blessing others with generosity. It's just, it doesn't compute that way; it's not causative.
