Living in an Ultra-Modern Shipping Container Home - Built with 4 x 20ft Used Containers

- In this video, we’re touring a really unique and modern shipping container home in Kamloops, BC, and hearing from the family’s story of how and why they host their shipping container on Airbnb. Cathi and her husband Trevor downsized to this small space three years ago after their sons had left home and the couple has been living in it full-time ever since. The main house has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room, and a full bathroom.
It’s built with 4 recycled shipping containers. There’s an additional studio space that’s connected to the main house with a breezeway and it is set up as a fully self-contained micro cabin, plus there's an awesome outdoor kitchen with a dining space and wood-fired pizza oven.

Way of the world. But let’s not assume these folk didn’t earn it and work hard in first place.
I'm only seeing the wealth of LIFE that they have accumulated and the ability that they have to be able to share their experience with others. How phenomenal! I'm also seeing how others will tend to judge people by what they assume instead of applying tools to grow and enrich their own lives to be just as wealthy. Income equals outcome and these two have clearly worked hard to be able to appreciate the fruits of their labor! Truly a blessing!
Yep i've lived with my partner now in a 36m2 house for 10 years now.
To say „we don‘t have a ton of space“ about the kitchen 😳 To me, the kitchen is huge!
They prioritized smart, but if you have a home you need more storage space. They cannot keep extra stuff, that demands discipline.

It has no dinning room so the island is the table and storage. Remember the house is only 704 sq So it is a tiny home. So the kitchen is not huge but is a good Size. You can’t count the garage/studio.
Her saying how she'd have a record picked out for guests that they might like is such a nice thing. Even if they end up not liking it the fact she goes through that effort shows how much she cares about others

This minimalist tiny home is bigger than most of the apartments I've had and they have more stuff than I've ever been able to have.

@@wadodful I agree both of those are so different. This was more of a minimalist than a tiny home video. This is not what comes to my mind when I think of tiny home. Lol. A tiny home is like anything less than 800 square feet. I get so annoyed when people say I have a tiny home and they have four bedrooms two baths thats 1000 sq ft +🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cake is Real this is less than 800sf of conditioned space. The average regular home (single-family stand-alone) in the USA is over double this size.

It's amazing how beautiful recycled shipping containers can look - this is not only a highly functional abode but aesthetically beautiful.

What an absolutely beautiful space and those views!!! Favorite part was her discussing picking an album to match the likes of an incoming guest. She and her family look like fascinating and fun too. I would stay there in a heartbeat! Oh ... and I love the garage door!

Wow, this place looks so wonderful. I would love to spend a whole year, just to get a full feel for the seasons in such spectacular surroundings. It’s a wonderful home, and such pretty interior, she could do that as a job too 😘

This is the first container home I have seen that I actually like. It's beautiful and the floor plan is outstanding.

Seriously, this isn't a small space, the house is built with 4 shipping containers, i don't consider it tiny. Nonetheless, its indeed beautiful...
It’s 4, 20 foot containers, not 40 foot which are standard.. so it’s really only 4x (20x8) = 640 sf + the covered breezeway.
If you consider the livable floor space, it feels like a regular small home, but take into consideration other dimensions, and spaces: there is no attic or basement. For example - where do you keep all the stuff that you need to maintain the house? Because of that, it's still pretty minimalistic in nature.
Jan Klosowski Dude, it’s not Minimalistic. Compare this to house’s in the U.K. rather than the 3000sq/ft mansions America and Australia get as a norm.
Everything I have to maintain my house is kept in a large cupboard, you don’t need a damn basement just for tools.
@@Spazza42 I'm afraid you've got fooled by the wide-angle lens. Two large shipping containers equals 50sqm, so the main building has no more than 60sqm + "the garage" which is Airbnb. I've been in a couple of homes in the U.K. none of them was below 120sqm floor space. I'm not sure what are you referring to.

I am a Canadian living in New Zealand - have been looking at alternative housing and am fascinated by container homes. I just found this home in Kamloops ( I am from Vancouver Island). Absolutely fantastic! Great idea to emulate here in NZ. Thanks!

As a fellow Canadian living near Monaco who deals with luxury properties daily, just wanted to say well done on your home. You’ve both done an amazing job and it’s very inspiring!
🌸 What I especially love is the fact you can place solar panels above to make it eco friendly. Guttering to capture any rainfall into tanks to water garden. I can totally see something like this being my next project. I would have electric auto blinds, with free energy not an issue to use

It's bigger than any place I've ever lived in, even included growing up with my family xD so it was a bit funny when she kept talking about minimalism, downsizing and not missing out on stuff, etc when it looked like a completely normal sized home :P I really like it though, great design, interior and size.

studio is extremely beautiful and cozy. the landscape is great as well. It really a place to go and have a stay and enjoy wine and some country music and since the area is semi desert I am sure star gazing would be one hell of an experience.

WOW I am in Love, what a beautiful place and design. The way they utilized their space makes it look much bigger!!! The only thing I would add would is a rooftop terrace. Untilize the beautiful rooftop as a social area to relax and enjoy the wonderful sunsets.

Simple, they cost money and the return on investment takes years. Some people prefer to be on the grid

@@jhowardsupporter panels, batteries and good inverters that can power a whole house are expensive. People take loans to purchase and install them. It will take years before the savings you’ve made on using the grid are met. And even then you still need to buy new batteries as they have a limited lifespan. Some choose a hybrid model where they only buy panels and they sell the energy back to the grid which cancels out any bill payments

Great content. Thank youI for making this! would love to learn more on these videos the practicality and logistics of actually how these different owners actually made it into reality. She mentioned getting the design from a company that was already CSA approved and it took 3 months to put together. Would love to learn more on the costs associated and different resources for us to build our own! Other than that yall rock!

Another absolutely gorgeous, clean and functional design. Very impressive, tasteful and appropriate.
A shipping container, as long as they are saving one that is for whatever reason taken out of use, is a good recycled structural base. But I wish they would use more retired passenger planes that are just left to rot in the deserts. There should be tax incentives to salvage them. Some of the interiors are huge or at least the size of a super long motor home and they were built to survive high pressure, wind turbulence, extreme temperature and violent storms. They already have windows, they have doors...heck they have bathrooms. Save half the wings for decks! Just need to rework everything but they should be recycled for future residential use...not to just rot.
I would love to have the space and money to have a retired A380 or 747. All that space!

Well it takes 10 minutes to clean after the professional domestic housekeeping comes or goes. Lol
If you are neat and tidy and regularly pick up after yourself, 10 minutes is plenty to wipe things down. Now, if you are a lazy slob, then no.
It takes 10 minutes to "clean."
Yes it does if your place is small and you´re already a tidy person or you clean regularly so the dirt/mess doesn't scalate.
I enjoyed the video. Two things I missed- one is overall cost, second how they are setup for water and sewer.
